"... this is... the stupidest thing I've ever done," Adam grumbled lowly as he stood from the dining chair. The restaurant was nice. The food was good. The atmosphere was tense, and his blind date was gone.

With a glacier sized chip on his shoulder the man stormed out of the building, pulling a pack of cigarettes from his pocket before reaching the door. "Fifth time I've tried this-" mid sentence he lit the match and took a satisfying puff with a rehearsed movement.

The lights outside were blinding. Neon, LED, shining gaudy signs advertising everything from soda to porn houses. Adam thrust his hands into his pockets, "It's ******** brilliant,"

Lost. Fantastic.

This was a rough neighborhood. Not the roughest, but a little worse than Emery's neck of the woods. It wasn't a bad one, mind you--She had met some really interesting folks since moving here a year ago. But perhaps it wasn't the best place to lose your way after nightfall.

Emery adjusted her shoulder strap bag and peered around nervously from beneath the light of a corner streetlamp. There were a lot of signs down this street, and bars and restaurants and other things she needn't consider. One man was pacing and talking to himself down the way as he smoked. It didn't look like she would interrupt anything, so Emery figured it was probably sort of safe to ask for directions.

"Uh... Sir?" she asked timidly, taking a few ginger steps his way. "Do you know the way to the Ridge Brooke apartment complex...?"

((They actually have a suburb name generator. xD))

Adam stumbled a bit at the sound of the woman's voice. Spinning around to see her, he took a final inhale of his cigarette and stepped it out into the pavement, "Well," he blew the smoke out away from the woman. "Ridge Brook apartment complex... ah! Oh, yeah, just uh," He pointed down the street, "You're gonna head down there and take a left on Rosewood Ave. and continue on your way until you hit-" He cut off, staring into the distance. Most of the lights in this area, other than the gaudy pink signs were out. "... Ah, here, lemme walk you there. My place isn't far from there, and I was heading home anyway," he lied and held out his hand to the woman, "The name's Adam," he added with a smile.

Emery was about to turn him down when she noticed the lack of illumination as well. "That would help a lot," she said, taking his hand. "My name's Emery."

Near the illumination-lacking streets where Adam and Emery walked, there stood a small but easily noticeable crowd of people, gathered around a single point on the sidewalk. The very quiet chatter of the people in the crowd was drowned out by the beautiful sound of a violin, echoing in the night as it slowly attracted more people. At the center of the attention stood Colin Fletcher, or just "Fletcher" as he preferred to be called, playing his oaken violin with such grace and expertise that one would never believe he played on the street, making his living off of tips from kind-hearted bystanders.

As some of the people put small amounts of money into the bucket sitting in front of the playing musician, Fletcher smiled to them and continued playing. Some of the bystanders, however, were not so nice as they stood there, enjoying Fletcher's music, and then left without giving a tip. The musician did not care, however; he only continued playing for those who truly appreciated his music, and for this he was thankful. So far he had earned thirty-two dollars, seventeen cents and a pair of sunglasses... Tonight was a lucky one for him.

((... *Throws money in the bucket* Take it, Fletcher, take it! crying *runs to a cozy home*))

Theodora swayed to an inaudible tune (or was it the man playing outside?) pushing her glasses up and the hair from her eyes in one practiced sweep. Her arms were stacked with books. She pulled a stool over with her foot to stand on so she could reach the top shelf more easily and place a hardbound copy of one of the Star Wars series, nearly tripping as she stepped back down.
It had been a busy day, that was for sure. Theodora was looking forward to kicking back at home with another book, her cats curled up around her as she turned on the TV for background noise. Theodora jumped, nearly falling backwards as she remembered, I need to give Piewacket his medicine!
She pushed up her glasses once more and continued her work rigorously.

Adam smiled warmly and shook her hand, "Emery," he repeated. "Well, I uh guess we should get going," he forced out a lighthearted chuckle and led Emery through the street. With some amount of interest he peered above the the crowd surrounding the performing violinist. The tune was beautiful no doubt, but it was not his music. He slipped through the crowd sparing no change for the performer.

Emery tossed a couple quarters into the bucket and smiled at the violinist as she passed, then scurried to catch up with Adam. She twisted her bag around to stuff her wallet into it. As she set it back to its rightful position, she looked up and asked, "If you don't mind me asking, what were you hanging around here for? Before I came along."

((A detail I somehow left out of the profile: Her tattoo runs from her jawline on the right side to above her right eye.))

"Riticoulle, Ramen, Rarketon," said David Reece. He was busily navigating dark streets of this... Bohavia-place. These were just some of the strange street names he encountered. "Retenvourkre? What the hell?" he echoed as he drifted through one street. The stars above--David did a double-take. He could see no stars above New York. The air had a tainted, odorous scent of car engines and cigarette fumes.

Now, David was driving across a lane with houses towering on either side. Not nice, residential areas, but apartment building with little to no alley space. The buildings were so tightly cram-packed that, in the darkness, he couldn't even differentiate between the end of one and the beginning of the next.

Eventually, David came to the irrefutable conclusion that, quite frankly, he was lost.

Adam stopped dead, "I was... on a date," he shook his head back to reality, and started walking again though there was a bitter taint in his step.

(( Your characters have been changed into links to a journal entry. This makes it easier for me to edit them when relationships within the RP change. If anyone is strongly opposed to this, please PM me and we'll talk about it. ))

(( Also, could people be so kind as to delete any OOC posts. I'm fine with you using them, as long as when the OOC is resolved, that the post is trashed. I'm gonna be OCD about keeping this RP super clean and shiny, @____@ ))

Soon, an old, worn Chevy pickup truck pulled alongside Every and Adam, a short distance from the playing violinist. The passenger window rolled down, revealing a man nearly as heavyset as Adam himself, with scraggly blond hair and bright eyes. Although, at the moment, he seemed very drowsy.

"Excuse me," he said from across the vehicle interior, "can either of you direct me to... ah," he glanced down at a hidden piece of paper or something, "Calico Street?"

The Chevy rumbled and smoked, unappreciative to the environment. It was an old model, but exactly which one, years of use had made quite uncertain.

Emery blinked at his statement, then nodded understanding. "I see. So why did you look so upset? Did she walk out on you or so--"

Emery looked up at the pickup driver and shrugged. "Ask him. I'm lost, too..."
