A proud look comes across Shuuka's face before he jerks out his hand, grabbing Rou's hand and half-guiding, half-dragging him. Shuuka will show him--the survivalist needs only to keep up!
And with that, if Rou so obliges the energetic Porcelain, he'd be led through numerous streets, down many alleys, and after what might be an eternity (or fifteen minutes) finally finds the sweet Gaian air is replaced by a deadly miasma. A metal gate some ten feet tall rises before them, and on the otherside? On the otherside of the fence exists a cornucopia of wealth. Half-eaten food, outdated electronics, and forgotten heirlooms dot the landscape, just waiting to be picked by the odd scavenger.
Shuuka welcomes Rou to the city dump! Shuuka raises his arms grandly, gesturing to the heaps of garbage before he hops on the fence. With ease, he begins to scramble up on it, stopping only at the top to look down at Rou.
Oh! Shuuka suggests that Rou be careful--you see, it's really quite illegal for them to be in here.
Probably.

Rou does indeed follow (not that he had been given much choice in the matter) and does seem to at least possess the speed to keep up with Shuuka's energetic steps.
....The air's just nasty in this place, isn't it ? Though Shuuka's announcement seems to let the boy forget about that for a moment. Does Shuuka mean that people discard things that are still completely usable here ? Just like that ? Rather than use them in other ways or give them to people who would use them ?
...It seems that it is Rou's turn to mumble something, though the look on his face would probably let the other boy know just what he thought of such a concept.
stare
The potential illegality does not seem to stop in - in fact, the rather jumbled projection is quickly followed by the dark-skinned boy climbing the fence.

And the fact he climbs the fence without hesitation is a source of surprise for Shuuka. He stares at Rou, balancing on the top of the fence before a smile wraps along his lips. Shuuka had expected it to make Rou nervous, and yet he moved on anyway.
How interesting!
Shuuka proceeds to laugh before twisting, his eyes focusing on the heaps of treasure. Rou basically summarized it--a lot of valuable stuff is in there, stuff that people toss away without a thought. Whether they're thoughtless or cruel, they send so many great things to rot away here.
Of course, that's where those like them come in. They, like the seagulls who are cawing happily, are here to pick clean whatever good things they can find. They'll surely find some rope along with other things. They just have to keep their eyes alert and be willing to get a bit dirty.
Does Rou think he can handle that?

Rou doesn't really mind dirty. Though he rather hopes said dirty would wash out. He doesn't have all that many clothing items yet. Or maybe they'll get lucky and find something decent here ?
He doesn't agree much with what he'd seen of gaian "fashion" so far, to be completely honest.
Rou actually doesn't see where the problem is, which is perhaps the source of his courage. If people send things in here just to rot, then why would they care if someone took them ? They don't want those things anymore if they send it here, right ?
So, no problem. At least, no problem in the world of Rou-logic.
The boy balance himself on top of the fence for a few moments before turning and scaling his way back down to the other side.
Let's see what there is to find, then !

Shuuka snorts--it's not really to protect anything in here. People are just afraid they'll hurt themselves in here. However!
Shuuka scales down the fence before dropping to the ground the last few feet, his hand immediately moving to smack against his chest.
Ah-HEM!
Rou should be pleased to know that he is traveling with an experienced treasure hunter! Rou won't lose a hand, or torso, on Shuuka's watch! He shifts his head to eye the trash before rushing at the nearest pile, filled with dirt, fruit peels, and boxes. Within moments, Shuuken is elbow deep in the trash, tossing junk to-and-fro. After a few seconds, Shuuka glances back at his companion and raises an eyebrow.
Well? What is Rou waiting for?!

Rou doesn't quite dare to drop from as high as Shuuka had, but does let himself fall on his feet and is soon following the other boy.
Those piles are really bigger from that angle. Whoah. eek
With that surprise passed, however, Rou joins Shuuka in his search - and it does seem to have been saying the truth, as he simply brushes by detritus without a second thought, sending a banana peel flying in a random direction.

Banana peels, broken walkie talkies, and tattered magazines fly over Shuuka's shoulders as he digs through the junk. He finally pauses, his eyes widening as he grasps something. He rises slightly, both hands on the item as his foot slams into the pile of wealth, steading him as he pulls for the life of him.
In seconds he goes flying back, his butt smacking into the ground. While the garbage pile may have humiliated him, it most certainly did not defeat him. You see, in Shuuka's hand is a wooden spear that has obviously seen its share of sorrow.
Shuuka suddenly stands, the butt of the dirty, aged wood slamming into the ground as the Porcelain stares triumphantly at the sky.
Shuuka claims this land in the name of Autumn Cove, greatest of kingdoms!

A spear ? Seriously ??? Gaians DO throw the oddest things in here.
Well, even if they don't find any rope, then Shuuka is at least set for fish, right ? smile
Autumn Cove ? Is that where Shuuka is from ? Rou does not know much about geography, he is afraid, but does show some interest.

Shuuka smiles slightly before eying the spear and then to Rou. In moments, he kneels by his companion and holds the spear out to him. Rou should take the weapon--Shuuka already has something to take care of himself, after all.
Shuuka gestures to the sheathed sword at his back before thrusting the spear's length against Rou's chest. He must take it--it's a weapon that befits a fisherman. It shows how he earns his living and protects himself. Shuuka only asks that, after taking the weapon, that Rou does not use it for ill.
Shuuka's features grow increasingly serious as he stares at the fisherman--he cannot be granting a weapon to some malevolent entity. Shuuka must have Rou's word.
"Swear to me that you will only use the spear for good," states Shuuka solemnly, his eyes focused on Rou's own.

Rou doesn't seem to know how to react, at first - he honestly never had felt the need of carrying a weapon on him (though his knife could be considered as such, he did not consider it as one - it is a tool, in his mind), and he does have his magic, as weak as it is... nor does he thinks Rou has anything to protect himself from...
...At least here, he thinks bitterly, but stops that thought short.
Instead, he straightens, one hand raising over his heart. At least, he thinks that's how it's done.
"Rou swears... that I will only use it for good." The words come out somewhat akwardly, betraying his lack of use of his voice, but aree understandable. Which, in the end, is what matters.

And Shuuka pauses at that. Now, the magic bit registers, but it takes a little longer for that to connect to Rou's survival techniques. However, the Sorcerer's apprentice can perhaps see the light slowly light up in Shuuka's eyes. Shuuka actually forgets about the spear and drops it to the ground, his face soon presses right against Rou's.
WaitRouisasorcererisn'the?! The thoughts come out rapid-fire with Shuuka's eyes unusually large.

eek
Rou isn't quite sure he's ever had a living ANYTHING that close to his face before...
Ahh, well... Rou is an apprentice. Not really a full-on sorcerer by any kind of stretch of the imagination, but he supposes Shuuka would be right, yes.

And Shuuka's hands grab his shoulders as a grin blossoms on his face, his pupils dilating and hair seeming to bristle. Shuuka never does pull his face back from Rou's, however.
Shuukaisasorcerertoothisissocoolitexplainssomuchaaahhhh!
Eventually Shuuka's thoughts become garbled, confusing, giving off only the excitement he feels rather than anything truly meaningful. It takes him a bit but he finally seems to compose himself (to where his face isn't glued to Rou's own, at least) before he continues speaking.
... Ah-hem. Shuuka is going to be a Sorcerer, is what he was saying.

Rou had managed to gather, yes... sweatdrop
Well, that does explain why Shuuka wants to learn to survive on his own. Though... doesn't Shuuka have a master ? Those kind of things where taught to him by his father and his master, after all.
...The only problem that his beloved master and himself are currently in two different worlds, much to his dismay, though he has tried to keep up with his training nonetheless.

Shuuka folds his arms, a more serious expression crossing his face. Shuuka hasn't actually started training, yet--no, before he goes to his master, he wants to know certain things. Shuuka does not want to arrive as fresh as a baby--he won't be a burden to his teacher.
Shuuka does not settle long on his future, however, but focuses on Rou's. Shuuka squeezes Rou's shoulder gently before shaking his head. Shuuka is merely a novice in so many things, but Shuuka can swear one thing at least--if he can ever help Rou find his master, then he will have an ally in Shuuka.
Shuuka swears that on his life.
