Influential quote: LOOK TO THIS DAY Look to this day! For it is Life, the very Breath of Life. In its brief course lie all the varieties And realities of your existence : The bliss of growth, The glory of action, The splendor of beauty. For yesterday is already a dream, And tomorrow is only a vision; But today well-lived, makes every Yesterday a dream of happiness And every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this day! Such is the salutation of the dawn. - Sanskrit Verse

well, bkm, we claim ancient heritage back to the Albigensians, but can only prove lineage back to the time of Luther and the Schleitheim Confession. the movement started in Switzerland, and in the border between france and germany (germany was not yet unified at that time); it was strong in independent cities like saltsburg and Cologne. they believed in believer's (or "adult") baptism, corporate (communal) bible study as a guide for living, simple living, humility, social equality (husbands and wives usually got equal billing in their records and publications), good works, and tended to value the life and ascension of Jesus more highly than his death. the Amish sprang from these roots, followers of Jacob Amman of Alsace-Lorraine. due to persecution, the Mennonites spread to the Netherlands (where these Anabtist picked up the name "mennonite" after a leader there, Menno Simons) and the Ukraine; some found their way to Mexico and the Caribbean, and there are quite a few today in Paraguay. the people in Canada and the US who call themselves Mennonite are actually twice removed, since we actually broke off from Amish who came to north America. We just felt they made too much of a big deal about rejecting electricity and cars, as if there was some virtue in that. but we are really not all that different. our two biggest international agencies are MCC (the Mennonite Central Committee), which works for peace and justice and is active in dangerous places like Palestine and Chechnya....and MDS, disaster relief services which partners with similar agencies all over the world. there is more stuff about us at our website, ThirdWayCafe.it includes some things about our basic beliefs http://www.thirdway.com/menno/?Topic=23|Basic+Beliefsteachings, especially historical http://www.thirdway.com/menno/?Topic=23|Basic+Beliefsand FAQ http://www.thirdway.com/menno/faq.asp

First Name: Vasilius Age: 36 Religion: Eastern Orthodox Christian Denomination: No such thing as a denomination
What drew you to this guild? Searching the Gaia pages. People actually respond like humans here. Usually.
Influential quote: Save Us O Son of God Who Rose from the Dead We Sing To You Alleluia!
Any other information you would like to share, feel welcome I believe we are all called to one faith, in union with God, and not the concept of one body many parts being the divisions of the Church itself, but a functioning One body with many aspects/parts/limbs of the One Church founded by Jesus Christ.

To learn more about Christianity from my fellow ED'ers who I know are intelligent theists.
Influential quote:
True glory consists in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read; and in so living as to make the world happier for our living in it. -Pliny The Elder
I may not be a Christian but that doesn't mean my Christian learning has to end. By knowing as much as we can about each other, we create tolerance and global respect, love, and knowledge for and about G-d.

First Name: I can't say and honor the parentals. Resa's the pen name. Age: 16, I'm like the youngest one, at least that posted here... Religion: Christian Denomination: nada
What drew you to this guild? Lookin for a place to find answers to unanswered questions. So I turn to the wisdom of the crowd. Didn't want one of the guilds that are too crowded though.
Influential quote: When life gives you lemons, make grape juice. Then sit back relax and watch the world wonder how you did it.
Or at least that's my favorite quote this week.
Sorry everyone if I have a tendency to have trouble explaining what I'm trying to say. I read a lot on religion but often forget names and other things like that. I pertain more the idea of a subject than it's name or anything else and can rarely give a reference unless it comes straight from the bible. Even then a lot of the times I won't remember the exact verse or chapter...

Influential quote: "Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music." - Sergei Rachmoninov (sorry if i butchered the last name)
also, for anyone who begins to judge me on my lack of capitalization at the beginning of my sentences: don't worry. i know the proper rules of grammar and all that jazz. it's just a habit. i know that you're supposed to start the first word of the sentence with a capitalized word and double-spaced etc.
that's all. i look forward to meeting you guys and having some good times on here.
