He gently stroked her hair watching the strands slowly change color as they dried. He kept her held up against him unwilling to put her down, if he let her go now would he ever have the courage to pull her back? He nuzzled her cheek lightly.
"I feel...I want..." He inhaled and sighed. "Maura do you think this is how mates feel? They want to be together forever..." He held her a little tighter his wings cocooning them.
"When I'm away from you I want so badly to be near you again, to hear you laugh and talk...and see you smile. And when your here, I feel like I never want to leave you..."

Maura hadn't really thought about that, wondering if how they felt was how mates did. She frowned a bit, thinking long a hard about it, which was something of a feat, because her heart was having an argument with her brain, one wanting to rationally consider his words and the other wanting to pull him back for another kiss.
"I... I don't know..." she finally managed and looking up at him, a small smile on her face.
"But I know I don't want you to leave me. I hate it when I'm not with you. It... It hurts," she finally admitted, pulling herself closer to him. She never wanted to let go. She wished so badly that time would just stop around them and they could stay here forever in this night.

He wanted to offer her an answer, to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him, but he had no idea how such things were done. He knew how the humans chose and wooed their partners, he was quite good at dalliances, but this was special. Maura deserved so much more then what he had to offer. "Lets get you out of the water..." He lifted her up onto the bank of the pond before lifting himself out and whipping his tail back to dry it his wings dripping.
"It's such a beautiful night...we should spend it together..." He moved closer to her unable to resist. It was as if she were his other half, all his body wanted was to be complete against her. His mind was calm now that she was there and the ache had faded away. If this was love, if he was supposed to lifemate with Maura then what would happen to him if she didn't feel the same? If she wanted another? The thought brought a painful stabbing sensation to his chest.

Maura allowed him to lift her from the water and as he was pulling himself up, she bent to pick up the small bundle of flowers he had left on the bank. She straightened, holding the flowers beneath her nose to take in the scent.
"They're lovely, Nightwing. I... I couldn't take them earlier, I'm sorry," she said and looked up at him without raising her head, making her look up at him in a way human females sometimes did, looking up through their eyelashes in an almost coy way.
"You had me frozen like a deer. I feared if I moved, I would shake myself to pieces," she added, looking back down at the flowers with a small smile in humor at herself.

He smiled and relaxed as he saw her take the flowers and inhale their fragrance. "I'm glad you like them...I thought by now your dry one must be loosing its aroma..." He gently touched her shoulder longing to pull her back into a hug.
He restrained his urge and wrung out his loincloth before slicking his hair back. "The night isn't too chilly, and the water was nice...I'm sorry if I interrupted you..."
He looked at her uncertainly, hopefully she would let him stay, he wasn't sure if he could pull himself away from her even if she hadn't wanted him there. He loved to just drink in the sight of her, and her voice was such a warm treat after so many nights without it.

"Don't be sorry. I... I was thinking of you," Maura replied and looked uncertain for a moment. No, she didn't need to be uncertain, not with him. So she stepped to him and gave him another hug. Where the first one was rushed and tight, this one was soft, tender, heartfelt. She had no idea how he felt about being hugged and whatnot, but he had said he never wanted to leave her.
So she figured there was no harm in hugging him when she wanted to feel his touch.
"I enjoy everything you give me, Nightwing. You seem to lavish me with gifts every time we meet. I wish there was something I could give you in return," she sighed, her cheek resting against his shoulder.

Nightwing smiled and gently returned the hug pulling her close against him to wrap his wings around her. This felt so perfect she was so warm, her voice teased his sensed and made the world fade away. He stroked her hair and chuckled.
"I'm just glad you enjoy them, your smile is all I need." His heart pattered in his chest as she rested her head against his shoulder. He felt so protective of her, despite the fact she was just as capable as he was when it came to taking care of herself. To him she was like a precious rookery egg, he wanted no harm to come to her. A strange mixture of devotion and protectiveness surged inside of him and he had to hold back a feral growl his eyes glowed for a moment as he pulled her closer to gently kiss the top of her head.

Maura snuggled against him when he pulled her closer. He seemed so much stronger than her, which probably wasn't exactly true. Stronger, yes, but not necessarily a whole lot. She could feel him hold her a little tighter for a moment, getting a sense of possessiveness from him that warmed her heart. And yet...
"Nightwing... I... I remember once you spoke of having difficulty finding... 'company', and... I assume there were times when you didn't... Can I..." she growled a bit under her breath at the thought and shook her head slightly. She needed to form this question properly, or it would get all messed up and confusing.
In the end, she went for blunt.
"Could you not... 'go after' other females? I..." a blush settled on her face and she mumbled the rest, "I'd like to have you all to myself..."
She had never been the jealous type before. Nightwing certainly changed a lot in her.

He smiled down at her and nuzzled her hair before lightly combing it back into place with his claws. "I haven't actually sought out...that type of company since I met you Maura. I find myself strangely only longing for your company..." He blushed and shifted himself slightly feeling suddenly embarrassed.
"I am sorry if I've made you uncomfortable Maura..." He loosened his hold on her. His curse was his own and there was no need to force his desire on his truest friend. Her request was an easy one, he held none of his old lust for any female gargoyle or human save for Maura, a blessing and a curse.

Maura let out another soft growl and hugged him tighter when he loosened his grip. He was so confusing sometimes, saying he longed for her and yet loosening his hold on her, telling her he wanted to stay with her and letting her go. Well, if she had to be the one to hold on, then she would just go ahead and do it.
"I made me uncomfortable, not you. I'm... I'm not used to asking something like that. Speaking with others about my desires is not my forte, but I find myself wanting to tell you what I want," she replied, glancing up and him as her own blush settled on her cheeks. She gave him a small squeeze and a smile, hoping he would understand that she cared about and accepted him, "faults" included.

Nightwing lifted his head "The sun will be rising soon...come lets move into a better sheltered area..." He carefully moved his arm around her waist his wing still cradling her back. His tail swept against hers tenderly as he he moved to guide her towards the shelter of the trees surrounding the small flower filled clearly.
"Would...you mind if I stayed with you?" He glanced at her and offered an uncertain smile. staying away from home was bad enough but perhaps he was enroaching much too much in asking her to remain with him through the day when they would both be so vulnerable.

She couldn't believe how foolish she had been to forget the time as she had. She allowed Nightwing to lead her back to the secluded clearing where they had first met. She looked around the clearing with a small smile before turning it on the male she was beginning to think she loved. When he asked if she would let him stay with her, her face turned thoughtful. Being here rather than the cliffs was dangerous. And yet... if anything were to happen to him and not to her... she wasn't sure she would be able to live her life without him.
Shaking her head slowly, she reached up as her smile returned and placed a hand on his cheek.
"Nightwing, I don't think anything in this world could make me happier," she replied and rose up on her toes to give him a light kiss.

Nightwing pulled her close to return the kiss his wings moving around her to shield her. His arms moved around her waist and his tail curved slightly around her as the sun rose slowly to freeze them in place and re-energize them.
The last thought the gargoyle had was how content he would be to wake beneath every moon if he could wake to have Maura there with him.
