Dear diary..

NOVEMBER 11, 2OO5

November 11, 2005. Friday. Veteran's Day.

A new house, a new journal.

Well, the house isn't that new. We moved in two months ago, but I'm still not used to the setting. However, the place is MUCH bigger than our old house and Mayu seems to like it a lot, which is good.

Well, since this is the first entry in my new journal, I suppose I should describe the surroundings a bit. The place really is beautiful, the streets are cobblestone(Is that the right way to describe it? I'm not sure.. But then again, I'm not sure of many things at all.) and the whole city just has this .. vibe. The buildings are also old-fashioned, and there's this clock tower smack-dab in the middle of the city.
You can see it anywhere from a five-mile radius, I bet. IT'S SO TALL! There's also this really pretty cathedral in the Northeast direction, it's probably my favorite building here. Well, I THINK it's northeast. I tend to get confused with the directions, I am NOT a map person.

Anyway, it's a really great place compared to where we used to live, which was in Barton. Oh geez, am I starting to ramble again?

ANYWAY, so much STUFF has happened lately! Mayu's birthday (which I STILL need to write about, grah.), the big move, Halloween, the big fire at Gambino's Mansion, and more recently, what just happened in Barton Town.

I also need to pay a visit to the shopping district soon! (Add that to my to-do list.) Mayu's getting a bit bored with the toys she has now, and she won't play with Orphne, Aku, OR the two nightmares out in the backyard. Audible sigh.

Well, my mind's blank now. There's nothing else I really want to talk about, and it's getting close to dinnertime, so I guess I'll close this entry.

Well, here it is! My first journal entry in Durem.
I really wanted this to be a bit grander, but I guess this will do.
Bye bye ~

Dear diary..

NOVEMBER 14, 2OO5

November 14, 2005. Monday. Rainy.

It's raining, it's pouring, Kimiko is snoring . . .

It was pouring outside today. The rain stopped a while ago, and Mayu and I are going to take a walk outside later before it gets dark.

I feel bad for her, the little thing. We usually go outside right after breakfast and at the very least, stroll around the city. (Oh, how I love the scenery.)

Well, Mayu was bawling her head off looking for something to do, so Miyu, Orphne, and I set up a big tent in the playroom. That got Mayu to calm down for a bit, but she started crying again after a few hours had passed.

I really don't like walking in the rain much, but I gave up and took Mayu outside after she almost broke her hand trying to pound open the door . . .

Ehehe. Insert nervous laughter here, right?

Anyway, I guess it wasn't so bad. It got Mayu to calm down, and I discovered that Durem looks even prettier in the rain! It actually gives the city this sort of grungy, rustic feel. (I'm a sucker for that stuff.)

The rain let up a bit during our walk, and it got all misty and pretty . . Did I ever mention that I love mist? I'm starting to ramble again.

So we were walking down 2nd and 3rd Avenue, and some shady figure runs through, right in front of us. I couldn't make out his features or anything, but I had this strange notion that I had seen him before from somewhere . . . Ah well, probably nothing.

Well, I should probably stop now and get dinner started.

Later days!

Dear diary..

NOVEMBER 15, 2OO5

November 15, 2005. Tuesday. Cloudy.

I have just discovered that I cannot sing while typing or writing. Strange, I can draw just fine while I'm singing, but my writings get all jumbled up inside my head when I start to sing, or vice versa. Maybe it's cause they both have words in them and that's what makes me confused . . ??

Well, enough of that for now.

The sky's been very . . . well, it's hard to describe. I could say "pretty", but would that make me sound redundant? I'll take my chances.

The sky's been very pretty lately, it feels like I could stare at it for hours and never stop~! This is especially true tonight, since when I was riding home from piano lessons, the sky had been the deepest blue I had ever seen. And it faded into an equally pretty light blue at the bottom . . ! I must sound like a spaz for writing this, but nyah.

I think Mayu agrees with me on this subject as well. When we were taking out morning walk, she had her face pointed to the sky, and she seemed mesmerized in watching the clouds. I'd better teach her not to look into the sun, though. She'll go blind that way. Audible sigh.

And speaking of Mayu, I took her to the marketplace with me today to window-shop. I wish I wasn't so poor, there had been so many things she had wanted to buy! However, I -barely- have the money to keep us all fed. Need to get a job, nyeh . . Ensue nervous laughter.

Oh, I also found a pretty bracelet on my nightstand. It's black and white! (Ying yang!) I'm pretty sure I didn't buy it myself though. Oh well~ I'm wearing it right now.

Hmm . . . Did I mention how blue the sky was tonight? If only the streetlights were out, then we would be able to see all of the stars! Oh well, I'll just have to go stargazing with Mayu and Miyu sometime soon.

Anyway, I have things to do, so I'll wrap this entry up.

Later days~

Nightmares.

...
"I've been having these weird dreams lately . . .
Like, is any of this for real, or not?"
Sora, Kingdom Hearts.

Kimiko sluggishly dropped into bed. The day had been exhausting for her, running all over town for groceries, and other essential products. Of course, Miyu had been there as well, but four hands aren't that helpful when it comes to 15 bags of groceries and a cranky baby. She looked to her journal and yawned, she could suffice a small entry before bed. Pulling out her pen, she wrote in a shaky and barely legible hand.

NOVEMBER 19, 2OO5

November 19, 2005. Saturday. Sunny.

(I'm too tired to write well, so here it is.)

Oh gosh, I had the most exhausting day ever. Someone had raided the fridge last night, and I had to go shopping for a week's supply all over again. ARGH!!

Miyu, Mayu, and I went to the marketplace after we scrounged up some leftovers and scraps for breakfast, and it wasn't fun.

I usually love the rush of shopping places, but today was too much for me. I can't believe it, 15 bags of food! We usually only have 10 or so. (Now that I think about it, that's still a lot . . .) I wish Orph or Aku had come as well, they could've helped carry some of the groceries . . . Ah well. What's done is done.

I'm really sleepy, so this is a record-breaking entry. For now.

Bye bye ~

Yawning again, she closed the journal with a snap, picking up the remote and turning on the TV. Turning off the lights with a flick of her hand, she crawled beneath the sheets and numbed her mind with Saturday night cartoons.

The glow of the television was the only light in the room, other than a few night-lights, as she had a small (large) fear of the dark. The volume was turned low, and the light cast by the TV cast a long shadow on Kimiko's face. It was midnight. ((Gaia time sure moves fast, eh?))

The air was filled with despair. It was nighttime, yet the moon and the stars were not out. Perhaps they were scared; Kimiko could sense an ominous feeling in the air. The fog was rolling in; how she hated, yet loved the fog.
The girl stood in a graveyard, leaning against a cast-iron gate. She was not in her usual outfit, the one of sickenly cheerful colors and lace, instead a dreary priestess robe. She hummed a melancholy song, which was oddly familiar, yet not.
Glancing down the seemingly endless rows of tombstones, she felt compelled to move. And so she strode down the cobblestone path lightly, glancing at the blank headstones which she passed. Something made her stop dead in her tracks, and she glanced up.
Two shadow-people were staring down at her, watching her with their non-eyes. How that was, she couldn't explain. They were tall, yet not-so-tall; one was a child, the other an adult. They both seemed familiar--as everything else did--and Kimiko wanted to scream.
But she couldn't.

someone help me please

The two seemed to engulf the light from the sky (there was light, even though the moon and the stars were hiding)

and
they
let out a terrible
SCREAM.

They filled the sky with their nothingness,

emptiness,
darkness,
despair,

until nothing was left. And the nothing-Kimiko shrieked.

Kimiko woke up in a cold sweat. The glare from the television was a bit bright for her, and she squinted, reaching out her hand to turn the lights back on. The mind-numbing TV was relaxing for her, and she sank back into her bed, listening to the sounds play softly.
Unbeknownst to her, another one was having a bad dream as well.

It was spring. She could tell; the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the petals rained down on them like a light morning shower. The princess--that was Mayu--meandered down the cobblestone path and to the garden. Her two fans swung at her side, held in place by her sash, the color of lovely roses,

carnations,
FLOWERS,

red. The kimono itself was a light pink, with a lovely pattern of cranes taking flight. It had been her favorite outfit, the edges were slightly torn from being worn so much. Of course, the was never self-consious about her appearance, it had just been her favorite for the color. Anyway, enough about that.
She sat down by the lake, tossing a few crumbs into the water which she had salvaged from lunch. The swans crowded around her hand, nibbling on the scraps of bread greedily. Laughing lightly, she got up and managed a twirl before falling into the pond. Well, that was a bad thing to do. She had never learned how to swim.
Mayu fell deeper and deeper, her sight slowly diminishing until she was out of the sun's reach; total

complete
ultimate

DARKNESS. And then a hand reached out of the sand and dragged her down.

The sound of crying filled the house.

Kimiko recieves a letter.

The dreams had come again last night. Probably nothing, Kimiko sighed as she carried a basket of laundry to the washing mashine. The tala ran around her in a frenzy, almost causing her to trip over her own feet. Meanwhile, Mayu was out on her own adventure . . .

Crawling around merrily, Mayu proved a hard one to catch. She had been crawling around upstairs and now into the living room, and Miyu struggled to catch her. Laughing with delight, she narrowly avoided the silver-haired one's grasp, and continued her journey to wherever it would take her that day.

Oh right, need to check the mailbox; the mailman's come by already. The girl sighed again -- she had been doing that a lot lately -- and finished loading the machine. With a twist of her hand, the washing machine started to hum. Kimi walked to the front door lazily, scooping Mayu up as she passed the pink one by -- leaving Miyu in disbelief, I might add -- and stepped outside. Breathing in the fresh air, she half-walked, half-skipped over to the mailbox and opened it with a creak. Nothing. She sighed and walked back to the house, almost overlooking the letter again. However, Mayu giggled and made a grab for it, which turned her attention to the envelope on the doorstep.

Picking the letter up, she walked over to the sofa and sat down, placing Mayu beside her. She yawned and looked over the envelope again, then placed it on the coffee table. She would deal with that later.

Mayu made a grab for the remote and clicked the TV on, cooing at the familiar theme song of her favorite cartoon. She sunk back into the couch and watched as the mesmerizing pictures went by.

A (mostly) peaceful night.

The sound of laughing filled the air. The unlikely duo -- in this case, Kimiko and Mayu -- were sitting outside, watching the fireflies flitter away into the moonlight. The water beneath them shuddered; they were sitting on the edge of the koi pond. Behind them a light was lit, and Miyu peered out the curtains curiously to see what was going on. Spying; not a very polite thing to do, but it sure was fun. The silver-haired girl chuckled to herself as she walked back into the house. Maybe there was something new on television that would boost her spirits.

Mayu hopped up and took a few baby steps before stumbling back down; she had done that a lot lately. She would learn to walk soon, Kimi reckoned, and she pulled the babe up with one arm.

"So . . . What do you want to do to-night, Mayu?" The girl asked, looking down at the baby with a smiling face. Mayu gurgled in return, and pointed toward the house.

"Alright, back to the house it is." Kimiko said, and stood up suddenly. She hoisted Mayu up with her arms and marched back into the house stiffly. The unceremonial ending to the night was almost comical, and the duo had to, at the very least, snigger at the way they had exited.

Shoving Miyu over--she had been sprawled on the couch, staring at the television with a blank face--and taking her seat on the sofa, Kimi placed Mayu down on the floor, and began her daily reading again. She had taken an unusual interest in alchemy lately, and had become more and more absorbed in the books from the study. She usually brought two or three down to read while watching Mayu play, and more rarely, a whole stack. Peering over the top of the book, the girl smiled as she watched Mayu play happily with her bunny plush, then returned to reading her texts. As they say, history always repeats itself.

Mum had become obsessed with those books lately. Al-ke-mie? The syllables rolled over Mayu's tounge as she tried to babble it out. Ah well. If it made mum ahppy, it made Mayu happy as well. Rolling over to lie on her back, the babe squealed with delight as she held up her bunny plush. How captivating those ears were! So fun to chew and pull on. They were almost as good as a pillow. Almost.

Well, what to do now? She had gotten bored of both the bunny and the assortment of coloured pillows scattered about the floor, and crawled around looking for something to do. Of course, there was not much a baby could do on a night such as this. Well, time to cause some chaos.

The peaceful night of reading and numbing minds on television was put to an abrupt stop by the sound of wailing. Kimi was immediately drawn from her book, and snapped it closed with a clap. She picked up the fussy baby and rocked her around, in hopes that she would quiet down. It was unusual, she said to herself. Mayu was usually not a fussy baby. So why the sudden change tonight? Maybe it was the full moon. There had been a full moon out tonight. She sighed and started singing a lullaby, one that flowed steadily into her mind. She had not heard it before, but it flowed from her lips easily. Strange. Maybe she would be able to persue a career in songwriting in the future. The simple thought made her laugh, and she sat back down on the couch, still rocking the crying child. She had quieted down in the last few minutes, and had even started bobbing her head in sync to the melody.

Well well, a game. This may be of some interest. Mayu yawned, and blinked up at Kimiko sleepily. There was something about sad lullabies and being rocked back and forth that made one sleepy . . . Zzz.

Preparation for the holidays.

Christmas shopping. There was something about it that made it delightful, no matter how crowded the stores may be. Perhaps it was the sheer delight of gift-giving and spreading holiday cheer, or the brass commercialism that was being shoveled into our minds year after year. Perhaps it was a combination of both. Nontheless, Kimiko and the gang were full of Christmas spirit at this time of year.

"Get some tinsel for the tree!"

"We need fiberoptic lights, stat!"

"YOU FORGOT THE OUTDOOR DECORATIONS! HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE OUTDOOR DECORATIONS?!"

"S-s-s-sorry, ma'am."

"Ma-ma?"

"Yes, hun?" The girl crooned, placing down the tall stack of assorted holiday decorations and colorful tinsel that obstructed her vision. It wavered for a few seconds, and then fell to the ground with a crash.

"WHAT THE HECK DID YOU DO?!"

"SORRY, MA'AM!"

********

Well, well. The trio managed to get home with minimal injuries. Quite an impressive feat, it was. Kimiko chuckled slightly, then massaged her temples. She couldn't really say that, as she had been the one suffering the "minimal injuries".

"Come on, get up! Up, up, up!" The girl chanted, flicking her silver hair behind her shoulder. "We've got a tree to decorate!"

Now, it wasn't the thought of spreading cheer that amused the Jumi so much. It was the thought of recieving presents. Ah, yes, presents. Amusing things stuffed into boxes and wrapped with commercialized cheer. Perfect. And, as she said, if you want something nice, you'd better impress the giver. Clapping her hands together slyly, she smiled.

"Christmas nazi." Kimiko groaned, as she pulled herself up from the couch. Nasty little thing, really. And she had looked so shiny while she was in her stone . . . No, no, that was a horrid thing to say, especially about family. And anyway, she was of some good use. To a point.

"What was that?" She gave the girl a look of death, then started opening the nearly countless boxes of ornaments. She felt a small pang of guilt for the tree, having its branches being weighed down by these big . . . glittery . . . THINGS. But, if Santa liked them, she would have to put up with them as well.

"Nothing, ma'am." She sighed, and began putting up the tree. It wasn't that bad of a tree, really. Around six and a half feet tall, with built-in lights. Not bad, not bad at all. And it actually looked realistic, not like that cheap fake stuff you'd find on the clearance rack at the back of the store. Maybe Christmas wasn't so bad after all. No, no, that was just a hallucination caused by an aftershock of today's events. The girl shook her head and went back to work.

Mayu had become quite amused of the going-ons of the house as of late, and she giggled with delight as the watched the two older beings decorate the house for Christmas. Ah, Christmas time. She had remembered from last year, the blinding lights and ear-numbing carols. Her favorite holiday of the year. Chewing upon the already soggy ear of her bunny plush, she continued watching the two girls stumble over their own feet in an attempt to prepare the house for the upcoming holiday.

********

The nightmares flapped nervously as their eyes followed the two strangers. They were spying on Kimiko and the others, that much they knew. Of course, who wouldn't be suspicious of two dark figures perched upon a tree? Well, unless you just have a very short attention span, but we won't elaborate on this for now.

Pursuers. They had been stalking Kimiko secretly ever since . . . well, the accident. They had to keep their eyes close on the girl by any means necessary. It seemed her keen eye for observation was slowly returning to her, work had been leaking out that she had caught sight of a fellow member as she was walking through Durem with that horridly . . . cute child. Proper action had to be taken. Of course.

Their "rabbit", as the liked to call the target, had shown no specific signs of becoming a hazard to society once again, but she had taken a "newfound" interest in alchemy lately. This would have to be dealt with later. Hell, it was near Christmas, even they deserved a break once in a while.

"---- -- ---- -- --- - --."

"--- - -- ---- -- ----?"

"--- ---- -- --- ------."

And with that being said, the two sped off toward the horizon. They wouldn't be caught, would they? Hopefully not.

********

The tinkling sound of ornaments chimed through the room, giving the impression of holiday bells. Everything seemed to be in order; the tree was up, ornaments were being hung, and Orphne and Aku had even started to help string the garlands up. Yes, everything was running smoothly.

How boring. The two had actually managed to get everything up correctly. Time to cause some ruckus again. Mayu swatted a lower-hanging ornament off the tree, and it fell to the ground with a crash.

"KIMIKO~!"

"But-but--!!"

Dear diary..

DECEMBER 11, 2OO5

December 11, 2005. Sunday. Cloudy.

Ha-ha, I've been so busy lately that I havn't even had a chance to write in this old thing! It's been at least two weeks since my last entry . . .

Well, no matter. I'll find SOME time to write, even if I am the busiest during December.

Anyway, onto recent events. We've put up a few more Christmas decorations to-day, and I must say they look great. The candy canes in the front yard really add an extra touch to the icicle lights on the roof. We also went shopping again this morning and bought some clothes from the Durem Depot . . . or whatever that store is called. I can't remember, really. I've never been really good with names.

Hmm . . . Other news. Mayu's been fussy lately, and this was really strange. She's usually so peaceful. Maybe she's going into that angsty teen stage early. Ha-ha, now that would be amusing.

Miyu's also been a bit more, how would I say this, maniacal lately. It's a bit eerie, and she's working us to death on these Christmas decorations. Tis the season, she says. I bet she just wants fancy gifts from Santa.

Speaking of Santa, that televised event was a bit creepy. A bit like a soap opera, I would say so myself. But, anything can happen in Gaia.

Oh, gotta go. It's lunchtime and everyone's hollering for some food.

Later days.

Kimiko snapped the journal shut and ran down the stairs two steps at a time. Running into the kitchen, she began grabbing items from the refrigerator with a sort of clumsy grace . . .

Mayu has a flashback.

It was unusually warm on this winter's day. Perhaps they were feeling the effects of a freak heat wave in Gaia, or maybe Kimiko and Mayu had just gone delusional from days and days of freezing cold weather. Either way, the two were happy for the sudden break from winter, and they were not going to waste a bit of this valuable time, by jove.

They were sitting side-by-side on the small dock of Bass'ken Lake, watching fishermen cast their reels on the lake's shores, the red-n'-white bobbers floating back and forth in a fluid motion. It was mesmerizing, as one would say it.

The two laughed as guppies nipped at their feet, and the older girl exclaimed, "This is a great way to spend to-day, isn't it?"

The baby agreed with a "graaaah", and waved a stubby hand to the fishes as they passed underneath.

"I don't think anyone could deny that today is a perfect day." Kimiko laughed and waved along, watching as a candy striper passed underneath the dock with a swift movement. Indeed, it was quite perfect on that day. Or perhaps they had only been entangled in deliria from all of the madness of the holiday season and were believing in their minds that they were enjoying a Spring-esque day in Winter. Either way, they were quite enjoying the day ahead of them.

**

The sakura wafted in the breeze gently, pink blossoms fluttering this way and that in a sort of enchanting dance. The maiden perched upon it sang with the birds, helping welcome in the new spring. She was dressed in a light pink kimono, embroidered here and there with cherry blossoms.

"Miss! Miss!" The children running about the foot of the tree, clad in their homemade yukatas, giggled as the lady dropped down from her seat and greeted every one of them by name.

The villagers all knew of the maiden who had fallen from the heavens, landing in a cherry tree in bloom. She loved that tree, and would sit upon its branches every morning and night. The town was truly blessed to have such a maiden visit from the heavens, being distressed in droughts and famine. Now, the area prospered -- surpluses in all the vegetables they grew, fish filled the streams and rivers, and even the townspeople had a happy kind of air about them.

The children surrounding the goddess tugged on her hands -- it was the cherry blossom festival, and the villagers loved having her there to open the ceremonies. As they entered the town square, everyone began to clap ...

Red. Fire! The shogun's hired army was attacking! Drawing out her large fan-dagger, the maiden led the male villagers in attack against the army. A storm of petals weakened the enemy, leaving them open for attack. The angry villagers struck, brandishing their intricate katanas. One by one, the mercenaries fell, and the cowards of the group retreated. They knew they could not defeat an army with the blessing of the gods.

No fatalities on either side, a true victory. They were but men, hired to do the shogun's dirty deeds. They were forgiven in the eyes of the gods, and in the eyes of the villagers as well ...

The villagers were crying, each and every one of them. Two men carrying a large urn brought the ashes of the goddess's mortal body to the cherry tree where she had fallen so many years ago and scattered them about its roots. Their eyes were teary, just like the rest of them ...

A large cherry tree stands in the center of a hill, blossoming year-round. Many workers have come and gone, trying to chop it down so that they may build over the roots. They failed, and eventually left it alone. Children running about climb its branches, and feel a ray of heavenly aura shine down on them, leaving them strangely happy.

**

The baby curled in Kimiko's arms slept quietly with a smile on her face. The sun was setting, and the girl pulled herself up, beginning to walk home.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 20, 2005 5:45 pm

To challenge the sun.

A dusty library brought coughs to the girl's throat, threatening to drive her apart. The air was stale with a dampness lingering in the air, and it was quite obvious that the room had nto been visited in a long, long time.

A beam of light slightly illuminated a section of a wooden bookshelf, and the girl wielding the flashlight waved away dusty cobwebs and sent spiders scurrying back into their holes as she made her way over the ruins over to the lighted area.

It had been just a few days ago when she had brought up a page of conspiracist theories, that a secret library was hidden beneath the collapsed Sayaki mansion. Kimiko had scoffed at some of these statements at first, but quickly found an addiction to them and began avidly reading them over and over. Finally, she had to see if the library was there for herself.

What had piqued her interest in the subject was the mere fact that it related to the Sayakis, the family that had disappeared without a trace just a few years ago. It seemed that misfortune was doomed to befall all of the rich families in Gaia, and they were no exception. There were Gambino conspiracists, Von Helson ones, so why not the Sayakis? The name brought the Japanese girl some odd comfort as well, and she had thrown aside her duties to persue this hidden library, even one which very well may not have existed.

But it did.

Kimiko had to squint in the faint beam which the handheld flashlight gave off, but had found a book of interest quickly. It was, in actuality, around five books. Or maybe ten. Plucking off a slightly damp book off of the shelf, Introduction to Alchemy, the girl directed the beam to the tiny words on the page she had flipped open to and began to read.

Introduction to Alchemy, page 20

Alchemy is the science of changing an item's molecular and chemical properties as to make it into a whole new item. It stands on the foundation of one rule, the Property of Equivalent Exchange...

A glint came into Kimi's eyes, this "alchemy" seemed rather interesting to her. She began to scan the shelves of the same bookcase, and picked out several other books pertaining to this curious subject. Her arms loaded with books, the black-haired girl made her way back up to surface level and into the sunlight.

Alchemy, huh? She wasn't sure quite what it was, but she did seem to feel some connection to it. She would have to do research on this when she got home.

A Christmas special. part 1 of 2

It was.. cold. Not a brisk chill, but a deadly, penetrating cold, the types of which cuts straight through one's jacket and deep into the skin. And on that day, Kimiko was not in a good mood.

"I .. AM COLD." The girl stormed through the house, grabbing all possible sources of warmth she could find. Her attempts were futile.

Meanwhile, the baby and the silver-haired child were huddled upon the couch, buried in the colourful blankets they had managed to salvage from their own bedrooms.

"Better off than Kimiko, I suppose. Don't you agree, baby Mayu?"

The baby mutually agreed.

"If I may .. Why don't you just TURN THE DAMN HEATER UP?!" Orphne scowled, halo bobbing frenziedly above her curled horns. The tala was not at all amused by the situation, her usually calm personality fired up to match her element.

"'Ey! Don't swear in front of the bebbeh!" The girl clapped her hands over Mayu's ears, letting out a small huff at the aggravated tala.

"I'LL SWEAR WHEN I WANT TO SWEAR, FILTHY HUMAN!" The tala snarled back. A small glass figurine shattered upon the coffee table behind her.

"Gwah!" The baby exclaimed, peering out from under a cover of blankets. This was going to be interesting.

"OKAY, okay, I've turned the heater up!" Kimiko slid in from the kitchen as the two were neck-and-neck. The tala and the jumi both relaxed as the sound of warm air rushed in from the vents overhead.

"Now, for another matter. Where the HECK are our Christmas ornaments?" The black-haired one waved her arm at the walls, now completely devoid of holiday decorations and other such things.

A few mumbles were scattered here and there as the dysfunctional family put their noggins together to figure out a plausible reason for the disappearance of the delicately hung decorations and things that they had so painstakingly put up a few nights before.

"Maybe the Christmas fairy took it to get them polished!"

"There are no Christmas fairies, idiot."

"There aren't?"

"No."

"... Then who took the ornaments?" The girl sniffled, looking about her. It was too late to buy new decorations, the stores were bound to be sold out by then.

Mutters went about the room again, it seemed like Christmas was truly ruined. Shuffling into the kitchen, Kimiko pried through the pantry and dug out some baking ingredients. "I'm still making cookies for Santa ..." She sighed, though her heart was crushed at the theft.

The rest of the family scattered to their own niches, though they were obviously affected by the break-in as well. Their normally upbeat moods were suppressed, leaving an air of gloom around the entire house.

There wasn't anything that could save the Christmas spirit in the Misaki household now.

--------------------

A man with blue-streaked hair trudged slowly on the sidewalk with a large tinkering bag of ornaments. He had stashed the Christmas tree and wreaths in a hidden back alley, and would return for them later. Why did he have to be the one to steal the Christmas ornaments from the family? They seemed like a happy bunch, and it was Christmas, for god's sake! Sighing, the young man found a bench, and although the seat was packed with snow, sat down. He hated to be the one to ruin the happy mood.

Shifting in his blue sneakers uncomfortably, he looked up and leaned back in his seat, watching the endless snowflakes fall continuously. His sharp mind was formulating a brilliant plan. Dashing back to the secret alley he had happened upon earlier (Hermes the swift, they called him -- he arrived in 3 minutes flat) and stashed the ornaments alongside the tree and wreaths he had placed down earlier. Now, he just had to find an open supermarket ...

--------------------

The cookies came steaming out of the oven and onto a plate. Kimiko placed them on the coffee table to cool, and sank into the sofa with a frown. Mayu crawled up to her and gave her a big hug, then resumed her chewing on the already-soggy cushion which she was carrying. The black-haired girl smiled, giving Mayu's hair a ruffle. Clicking on the television, she began to watch a Christmas special on the comedy channel. The day ahead of them was going to be a long one, indeed.

--------------------

Hermes walked out of the G-mart, whistling happily. The plastic bag in his arms carried a full Santa suit, and his face showed the delight of a child walking out of a candy store with full arms. He didn't have to take the blame for ruining the holiday spirit, cheers for him!

He really did love the way his mind worked sometime, however ADD it was. Now, he just had to find some way to keep himself busy until nighttime! Checking his watch, he noted that it was 11:00 in the morning -- great. He had seen a toy store somewhere around there, the consoles they put out for people to test were always fun to play around with. Maybe they would even have a copy of Animal Crossing!

A Christmas special. part 2 of 2

The jingling of bells startled Kimiko, who was snoozing on the bed with a plate of cookies, now half gone. Looking up, she saw a large figure with an unusual puffy hat ... Santa!? But it was too early for Santa, wasn't it? Looking at her wristwatch, the girl rubbed her tired eyes. 11 PM, about an hour before the fat guy was due. Ah well, at least he had bothered to show up, with the house emptied of its ornaments.

He was carrying a large sack, and had wreaths hanging from his arm. Behind him loomed a large pine tree, with garlands draped upon it in every which way. Wait, what? Santa had brought the missing ornaments back for them!

The cleverly disguised Hermes gave a "ho-ho-ho" as he began to put up Christmas lights and wreathes back in their right places, finally scootching the large tree back in place. From the hallway, the other residents of the house began coming down to see what was going on, and gawked in amazement as Santa himself finished the last touches on the Christmas tree!

As the costumed Hermes left the room to begin redecorating the exterior of the house, the children and the Talaye all rushed up to Kimiko, squealing. Their words were different, but the meanings were the same -- Santa really had saved Christmas!

Each of them shuffled off to their own rooms, smile on their face. Outside, a tired Hermes shuffled off with a grin on his face. And abovehead, jingle bells rang off as a sleigh passed, silhouetted against the light of the full moon.
