Ylva groaned a little as he finished his speech. She didn't have the full story so she didn't understand what he meant by what he could have done to save her.
"You act like you control her life. Like your living it for her or something, Look, she needs to live her own life. We all do," Ylva sighed and flipped over so that she was facing him. Her usual stony face was softer and more readable, and her stare less intense. "Asa, if your sisters as smart as you say she is, why do you worry. Im sure she would want you to live your life and Im sure she wants to live hers."
The clouds over head seemed to turn off all the light the sky was providing. Darkness over took the great African plains followed by a flash of yellow light in said clouds.
"Uh oh, storms rolling in," The hyena's head turned to watch the colds as the rumbled on in. They cackled at Ylva in triumph as the sky opened up over top of the two hyena's. Ylva cackled like a mad person as the two got drenched in the African rains.
"Rain, " She smiled and licked her chops.

"You don't understand..." Asa whispered, almost too quiet to hear, "I did control her life. I decided if she lived or died." He looked back up at the sky, cutting himself off. She didn't understand, it wasn't fair to drag her into what it had meant to be twins where he lived. That she had lived her whole life waiting for him to kill her for a God he no longer believed in.
And Biku was smart, but so naive. She had always been waiting for him to save her... she had never been hurt before. Never had to much as a scratch, never had to hunt for herself... and perhaps she would die without him there for her. But he had already proven that he couldn't protect her. It was time for her to learn to protect herself... and she would be better off without him. Because she wouldn't die by any hand but his.
That was their curse.
"Storm eh..." He mumbled quietly. It seemed right somehow. He felt the rain hit him and roll off. Rain that he would have missed if he had died that day not so long ago... He would have never seen the stars again. He would have never met Ylva. And he would have died knowing what loneliness really was.

Ylva looked silly with her bangs flattened over her face. She couldn't pull over her serious look, but under her flatten hair, she was looking at him serious. Live or die eh, that she hadn't known. Still, there were so many missing puzzle pieces to Asa she had no clue about.
Instead of saying anything, she licked at his face, "Your alive , aintcha? Stop living like you died back on those rocks." She didn't smile, just looked at him from behind her flatten ridiculous looking matted bangs, frowning.
The wind seemed to be helping along the rain as it flew side ways into Ylva's face. The hyena turned her back to Asa and growled up at the sky, "GIVE US A FREAKING MINUTE TO TALK WILL YA!" Her jaws snapped as she talked to the sky, like a crazy person.

Asa smiled a little despite himself. He felt in a way that he had died back on those rocks. But to his dispair, he hadn't. He hadn't come back as a reborn man who appreciated living all the more for his survival. He hated the life that had been given to him. He hated every breath he took. And he hated himself for leaving Biku, while at the same time he was relived that she would be safe from his choices now.
He felt the wind blow against his face as she screamed at the heavens themselves. She was so much braver than he was. He was such a corward. He had run away from all of his problems, and when he had finally decided to face up to his greatest enemy not only had he failed... but oh, how he failed in every possible way.
"You're so much better than your sister, Asadaki." A nightmare he would never be able to escape so long as he lived. Kavu's voice whispering in his ear while he... No. No, he wouldn't let himself think about that. He couldn't, or he was certain he would die. And while Ylva yelled at the sky, Asa prayed that it would send a bolt of lightning to kill him.
"Do you think they're listening?" He asked her quietly, looking straight up at the sky, "That they ever listen to our prayers? Or do they do the opposite, just to prove it doesn't matter what we wish for?"

Ylva continued her ranting up at the sky, shouting ever curse known to hyena. She wasn't happy at being smacked in the face when it was supposed to be a pleasant night under the stars. Something brought her back to her senses , if only for a short while. Asa's voice.
"Huh?" The hyena, off guard turned back to Asa. "Listen to us? They damn well better or tomorrow I'll go fine a shine to piss on, " She smiled, but looked silly doing that. Her fur was soaked and dripping in an unglorified mess. Still, she smiled.
"Asa, why no join me in cursing the a** holes up there?" She gave Asa a nod to let him know it was alright, "How dare they ruin our night eh? How dare they!" She turned and started to run off the mouth again.
Ylva just looked silly as she screamed and snapped and threatened, but she did it any way. The heavens had dishonored her by blowing wind hard in her face and smacking her, now they would pay with a very long rant.

Asa blinked. Blindly cursing the heavens seemed so foolish and... silly. But how long had he wanted to curse the heavens and everyone in them. For making him and Dabiku twins. For making her their sacrifice. For the stupidity of their life... for why, of all the people out there, they had to be Kavu instead of someone like Ylva. Someone who would have helped them or shown them what to do instead of destroy their entire life in only a few weeks.
"I... think I will." Asa whispered, staring up into the sky as Ylva screamed at the top of her lungs. What could he do but join in? Scream nonsense at the sky and wish, wish so hard, that someone would hear him and give him some sign of why he had to suffer.
All he had ever wanted to do was the right thing.

Ylva stopped, surprised, as Asa joined in. The hyena hadn't thought her quiet companion would join her in her cursing but when he did, she smiled and watched before jumping back in the wild fray against the thundering heavens. The bastards up there had it coming to them after all the things that were bad that had happened.
The sky cackled and thundered in rebellion against the two hyenas and even cast a few probes of lightning down to earth. Even then, the two hyena's noise out did that of any of the clouds. The heavens cracked and roared and rained hard as the hyena's shouted. Oh it was a sight to see the epic battle.
During the shouting, Ylva had thoughts of her own past. It fueled her own anger as she cried out to the heavens. Her boy, he was dead but she'd live on and she'd make sure that never happened to anyone she cared about again. A failed protector no more, or so she hoped , as she watched Asa from the corner of her eye.
