Asa was happier to see her smile. A real smile, not a fake one or an angry one that he had become so used to from her. But she had believed what he had told her, and that was important. Because he had always hated to see others sad... and perhaps he was not the cause, but he had made her remember something painful. And perhaps for the moment, he could help someone... the only one, who had helped him. Maybe he could make her smile like that more often.
Maybe he could help her heal, since he knew he couldn't help himself. Maybe he could do at least one thing right before he was gone.
Because no matter what pretty things she said to him about the world, herself, or others... Asa was quite certain that his wounds went a little too deep to heal. The things that had been done to him... could not be undone or made better. They were burned into his brain so profoundly that unless he tried very hard not too... Biku, Kavu and his dead pack were all he thought about.
But Ylva made things bearable... if only for a little while. And maybe if he helped her... when he died, whatever punishments awaited him in the afterlife despite his failures, someone would take pity on him for always doing his best.

The silence grew again, it seemed that it liked to follow these two around and only grow larger while it settled. Ylva took a last bite, smaller the the others before nuzzling the rest over to Asa.
Slowly and awkwardly the hyena made her way to the other side of the cave where she laid down for a nap. She was tired after hunting and gathering herbs all day for Asa and crying had made her all the more tired. Right now all she could think of was sleep and Asa's well being.
