Kodiak could hardly believe his ears. She was actually interested in his studies. "It intrigues me to find ways to converse with the spirits and souls that have gone beyond our realm. I don't have the magical training to actually accomplish anything, it just fascinates me."

"In my experience becoming more in touch with your spiritual world really starts in a change on how you see things. Even the general attitudes and emotions of what you experience," Vera explained, "Just by feeling positively about your environment one can simply just start becoming more in touch with everything else around them. I've always found negativity to be extremely self centered, since it puts one in the mindset of 'poor me'." She stretched out her neck with was now getting cramped from her hold her position for so long.

Now that the sun had dried the water from his wings, Kodiak stretched them before folding them to his back. He settled in the sand, even more curious about this painter that had introduced herself by dousing him with water.

"Now you know what I do with my time, what about you? What sort of things do you do?"

"A little this and that," she said with a smile, "I love to bask in the sun, eat raw fish, do the death defying and dangerous, reading Gandhi's works. Or are you wanting to know more about me?" She said in a slightly dangerous tone. She stood up and clawed the stones by the bank, "would you like to see my home?"

"Yes, I would like to know more about you." Kodiak was definitely curious about the brown painter, but beginning to be a little cautious of her intentions. Her tone sounded more like a challenge than an invitation. "Where is your home?"

"No perfectly innocent I assure you, " she said noticing his discomfort, "it's not too far from her on one of the cliffside banks of crater lake. I hope you don't think I'm dangerous, I'm just adventurous and a little daring."

"Then I wouldn't mind taking a look at where you live. I have to warn you though, I'm not thought of as being very adventurous." Kodiak stood and stretched his wings. "Mostly, I observe the adventures of others. "

"Well you can now have and observe an adventure," she said starting to canter, "my home is quite close. Follow me." she climbed up the bank towards the large rocky rim around the crater. "My home is that cave to right, the one with triangle opening."

Whatever she had in mind, it sounded interesting to Kodiak. He tucked his wings to his back and hurried after the departing brown painter. "Right behind you," he called. He noted the cave entrance that she indicated and followed her up the bank.

She approached the cave and scrambled up the steep slope. "Here's my home," she said standing in front of the bassalt rock. "Come on in." She walked into a rather deep one room cave pieces of shimmery blue cloth hung loosely from the ceiling. Pieces of scenic photos covered the wall along with photos of her and other painters. They appeared to be friends or family of hers.

Kodiak followed Vera through the entrance an into a large open cavern. He noticed how hers seemed more homey than his. Hers had picture of, he guessed, friends and family while his cave was littered with books and papers.

"Nice place," he said. Stopping to look at the scenic photos, he asked, "Are these places that you've been to?

"Some of them are," she said, "Some of them are places I wish I could visit. They help me calm down and revisit my goals." She sat down on one of the numerous cushions in the sitting area. She smiled at him and wondered if he had any interest in her. She couldn't tell at this moment. He seemed unused to her flirtation, even spooked by it, she hoped that it would pass. She thought about how a little romance in her life might make things more interesting to her. She sighed, "Would you like to sit down? Or can I make you a smoothie?" She wagged her tail a little. She also hoped he'd open up a little and maybe escape his bookish and analytical for just a little while. It seemed to be a way for him to reveal who he really was as little as possible.

"Thank you," he said, picking a comfortable looking cushion near Vera. "I don't believe I've ever had a smoothie. I'm afraid I'm a bit old fashioned and haven't delved into the modern tastes of humans."

Kodiak wondered again why this female seemed to have a particular interest in him. Maybe there was something he knew about that she wanted to pick his brain on. "You mentioned goals. What goals have you set for yourself? If you don't mind my asking."

She got up to make him a smoothie,"would you like a blueberry, tropical, mango, peach or wild berry smoothie?" She picked through the ingredients and found some hazelnut milk and began to put some of it into the bender. "Goals, I have so many. It would be hard for me to describe all of them. But I guess one of them, it's rather silly, I've always wanted to make every painter I meet smile. Have something new and great that they discover about themselves," she said sincerely.

"Wild berry sounds interesting," he replied. "I'll try that."

Kodiak continued looking around at the decorations of the room, gleaning what he could from them about the occupant's personality.

"That's an interesting type of goal. And if I'm not being too bold, just looking at you would bring a smile to any painter's face, so it would seem to be an easy goal to achieve."
