Eirwyn paddymew NatsumenoKage Wasn't she the Soothsayer from the Sybleline that you first see fallowing The Doctor and Donna? Well, at least they can't do the same descendant-thing as they did with Gwen/Gwyneth, since ( SPOILOR in white!!!) everybody in Pompeii dies. Ah, BUT...Every body in Pompeii does NOT die. Many actually DID escape before the pyroclastic flows came down and killed the ones who were still in the city. 3nodding Last time I checked, people from Pompeii speak latin. And it would be weird because the actress is scottish and this is a TV-series, not the real event. Maybe The ones that supposedly survived the eruption were the ones the Doctor saved?MERLIN IS THE DOCTOR! SANTA CLAUS IS THE DOCTOR!Long live unexplainable, unneeded whitening! EDIT: The seers weren't very likely to escape IIRC, since their "religion" probably would require them to stay and wait for the Doctor to come back so that they could sacrifice him to the angry volcano gods.

paddymew The picture of her says human. Yes indeed. That is a picture of a human actress. A human actress neither in character or costume. Therefore it's a picture which tells us nothing about whether she's going to be playing a cat person, a Chelonian, a Whifferdill, young River Song or teenage Donna Noble. paddymew Last time I checked, people from Pompeii speak latin. And it would be weird because the actress is scottish. Hang on...so it'd be weird for someone Scottish to play someone descended from someone who spoke Latin, but fine for the same scottish actress to have played someone who did speak Latin? How does that work?

err, the cast seems a bit young. This is a little sketchy to me. Though the companions are usually young. Hmm. I don't know exactly how I feel about this one. Give me a few days to think about it.
Edit: Wait, is that a TARDIS in the background of that picture or just a blue window? Ehgads, I think it is a TARDIS and I THINK that we have another human companion. This really makes me miss Adric.

XellosRei Wait, is that a TARDIS in the background of that picture or just a blue window? Ehgads, I think it is a TARDIS and I THINK that we have another human companion. It is, indeed, a TARDIS that has been photoshoped into the background of this publicity photo. But publicity photos tell us nothing about characters. For example, here's the image with which Paul McGann's casting was announced... I put it to you that the Eighth Doctor didn't look much like that, nor did the plot of his TVM have much to do with mysterious crystals. XellosRei This really makes me miss Adric. Had you seen a publicity photo of Mathew Waterhouse, what species would you have assumed him to be?

Maybe if the McGann flick had gone to series then the second episode would have been Doctor Who and the Caramel Crystal.

Richard_Swift Yes indeed. That is a picture of a human actress. A human actress neither in character or costume. When DT was announced to play tenth, the publicity pictures weren't of him wearing casual, it was of him in his Doctor-suit. Same with his companions, we don't get shots of them being themselves, we see them being the characters they are going to play. Richard Swift Hang on...so it'd be weird for someone Scottish to play someone descended from someone who spoke Latin, but fine for the same scottish actress to have played someone who did speak Latin? How does that work? No, but these two scenarios (scenarioes?) would be weird: 1) Dead person having children. ( Risen Mitten, sure, but that's TW, and she would be a zombie without a working way of reproduction.) 2) Someone from Pompeii who blames the Doctor for destroying her cult traveling with him, while having a somewhat scottish accent. XellosRei Wait, is that a TARDIS in the background of that picture or just a blue window? Ehgads, I think it is a TARDIS and I THINK that we have another human companion. Another picture of her, with the TARDIS a bit more obvious 3nodding EDIT: She was the one who followed the Doctor during the streets in "Fires of Pompeii", yes.

I put it to you that the Eighth Doctor didn't look much like that, nor did the plot of his TVM have much to do with mysterious crystals. Had you seen a publicity photo of Mathew Waterhouse, what species would you have assumed him to be? Aww, have a little fun, be a little scared. The show is going in a completely different direction with new... everything. It's a perfectly human response to be scared of a bit of change. Everyone was all warm and cozy with DT and RTD now their entire lives are being turned upside down. Err, their entire viewing pleasure is being turned upside down. But that's what makes this show so great, every so often the whole thing goes through a metamorphosis, it changes so much but ultimately stays the same. All we can do at this stage, with what we've been given is speculate on what we've seen in the past four years. Well, in the past four years we've seen a lot of Britain, neh? So we can only ASSUME (I know that it makes an a** out of you and me but hey, it's all in good fun) that she will be human so that the viewers, mostly human so I assume, can have someone to relate to. That works for a while but Doctor Who hasn't been as scifi to me as it was way back in the day. There's a bit of time travel, a bit of space travel, but most of the time stuff is happening to people in the present time. So we can only assume that Matt Smith will become emo (he has the hair and black clothing for it, but hey, that could just be the promo photo. We'll just ignore the fact that currently, the doctor is becoming more emotional and less willing to become attached to anyone he meets *See the past two specials*) and randomly pick up some Scottish chick. But this is all in good fun, right? I mean if we were right, we probably wouldn't watch the show anymore. I personally was a huge fan of the series House for three years, then I predicted everything that came out of the characters mouths, that's when I stopped watching.

paddymew When DT was announced to play tenth, the publicity pictures weren't of him wearing casual, it was of him in his Doctor-suit. When Matt Smith was announced, the publicity pictures weren't of him in his Doctor-suit as his Doctor-suit hadn't been decided on. Which is more relevant to 2010's Doctor Who? How David Tennant's casting was announced, or how Matt Smith's was? paddymew Same with his companions, we don't get shots of them being themselves, we see them being the characters they are going to play. There've been instances of both. Until we know something about this companion we don't know which this is. XellosRei All we can do at this stage, with what we've been given is speculate on what we've seen in the past four years. Well, in the past four years we've seen a lot of Britain, neh? So we can only ASSUME (I know that it makes an a** out of you and me but hey, it's all in good fun) that she will be human I love speculation, but it's not the same thing as assumption. It's almost the opposite, as pretending that we know things we don't is a way of artifically limiting speculation. This is a pretty clear example of that. Speculation about this character's race and background stops dead if we assume she's a contemporary human based on...not very much. If any of you think a TARDIS in the background is proof that this pic is in character, then I can only assume you think that the Dalek in this image... ...means that Kylie's in character as Astrid here. I put it to you that she is not. All we know from the Karen Gillan publicity photo is that whoever took it was aware that Kristen Stewart wore a similar shirt in promos for Twilight. twisted

If the new companion acts like Bella, I will go curl up in the fetal position somewhere.
