"WOOOO!"
Ali needed no encouragement, happily bounding into the water behind his friend, as if he had intended to do so all along. A leap, he flopped into the water belly first, sending a wall of water splashing around him. Ali'ikai, king of the sea, his name suited him, how he loved the water.
Forever a child, grinning like an idiot, Ali swam through the water. On another day he would have immediately ducked beneath the surface, diving after the fish that shared the sea, fascinated by the brilliant colors, snacking on crustaceans and shellfish. Oh but today, today he had more playful thoughts in mind.
A paw raised then fell, slapping the surface of the water, his own eyes closed at the spray of water he could only hope had hit its target. He had probably splashed as much water on himself as he had Kwaruza if he had succeeded at all, but it didn't seem to bother him. He only laughed, rolling to his back to kick at the water with his hind paws.
Sand lion? No, he was a SEA lion!

Sand lion or sea lion Kwaruza was being a lionfish! As she got splashed by the water she ducked under the water and maneuvered herself under Ali dodging between his legs but making sure he could defiantly feel her even if it meant purposely brushing against his legs.
She would pop up from under the water for a breath of air before going under again. Ali could by all means be a sea lion but she was a lionfish, much better in her opinion! She was having fun though and as long as he didn't catch her under water all would be well.

If Kwaruza wanted to be a lionfish, that was okay with Ali, he liked fish.
Wait, where did she go? He looked about, searching for white among the blue, hmm, now where did she go. Ah-hah, a brush against his leg, there she was, or well, he thought it was her. His own head poked beneath the water, yeah, it was her--
Oh, what was that, he saw movement, a small crab scuttling along the sandy bottom. A short dive, a paw reached out, snatching the creature from whatever task it had been engaged in. It was given no time to react, flung into the lion's maw. Mmmm, crunch, Ali had eaten the crustacean shell and all, it was delicious.
Hmmm, now, Kwaruza, oh he was going to catch her. Grinning, submerged in the water from his eyes down, the tip of his tail twitching above the surface, like some furry blue cross between a shark and a crocodile, the hunter was on the prowl.

Annoyingly for Kwaruza Ali didn't stick out so much in the water as he did on land. It was as if he was born to live in the water. She would have to be sneaky if she were to escape him.
Her head broke out from the under the water and she took in a large breath and then laughed. How could you not laugh when all you could see was well the very top of Ali? She couldn't help but laugh until she realised that he could probably see her and not only that he was probably heading straight for her and so with another rather large breath she went back under the water.
If anyone had been looking out at the sea at the time they would have probably been rather confused. Who would have thought lions could play a very strange version of tag in the water?

Dun dun...dun dun...dun dun dun dundundundundun.
He was like a shark, stalking, swimming closer, closer, close--HEY! Where did she go, no fair hiding! A deep breath, Ali dove below the surface, searching for the lioness. The salt water stung his eyes, blurring his vision, but he was getting used to it, it wouldn't stop him from finding her.
Ah, a blur of white, there she was. A grin, Ali the shark was on her trail again. Dundundundundund....RAWR!
With a playful roar, Ali leapt from the water, being sure to brush against her side as he did. A great splash of water, the lion turned in midair, diving into a pounce at his friend, intending to catch her with soft paws.
Ah-hah! Let's see her escape now!
Maybe whoever was watching wouldn't think they had both lost their minds. Well, if they did, maybe they were right, but they'd be missing out on all the fun!

He got her. Woops. She swam back up to get a breath before looking to see if she could see Ali, the annoying thing was he had the best advantage a lion could have out here. She watched the water carefully and then she saw him, a tint of yellow.
She dived down and looked around but again he had gone. She couldn't catch him when he was hiding from her and so she swam back to shore and laid in the waves watching the water. She would watch from here and if he resurfaced she would sneakily crawl back into the water and swim straight towards him before he would know what was happening!

A grin, he had caught her, it didn't matter that she had slipped away again. He had turned, darting away, ducking under the water before she could catch him in return, that was how the game was played wasn't it. Well, maybe not.
He had expected her to chase after him, to 'tag' him in return. When she didn't, he simply shrugged, swimming after her again, searching. Tag, chase, sea lion shark!, it didn't matter what the game was, it didn't matter if the game changed to another in an instant, it was fun, and that was all that mattered.
He circled, but didn't find her, where had she gone? Ah, fish! So many colors, swimming along the ocean floor. If only he could have stayed under water forever. But as much as he loved the water, he was not a fish, he was a lion, and like all lions, Ali needed air to breathe.
GASP!
A deep breath as he broke the surface, jaws open wide as air filled his lungs. Now, where was Kwaruza, hmmm. A flash of white, he turned toward the shore.
"Dude, what're you doin' over there?"

Her plan was working so well, he came up for air and she was about to creep into the water when he saw her and shouted to her and for some reason she just fell over laughing. It wasn't even that funny but maybe it was just because it was him who said it she couldn't help but laugh.
She wanted to go get him but she couldn't, she could hardly move at all because she was laughing so much and it really wasn't even that funny! She didn't care though she rolled around in the waves laughing, having to close her mouth every now and then as the sea tried to enter it. Salt water did not taste good.

Ali blinked, his head turned curiously as he watched his friend. What was so funny? Had she seen something that made her laugh? He turned to look behind him, the back again, no, he didn't see anything, but then why was she laughing so hard?
A moment of speculation, then the lion simply shrugged. Whatever had been so funny, he had clearly missed it, but it was okay because it had make Kwaruza laugh, she was happy, and happy how everyone should be.
A smile on his own maw, Ali swam to the shore, walking as his paws reached the sand, waves dancing between his paws. He shook, flinging the water from his hide a moment before he flopped into the surf beside Kwaruza, splashing water all over himself and her all over again.
A paw reached out, batting at the lioness. Ah! New game! He was on his feet again, poking at her with soft fuzzy paws, he'd tickle her. Hah! He had her now!

She counted help but roll over and laugh even more when Ali reached her. Was he trying to kill her via laughing too much? It seemed it as with a rather large push she had to push him away, she was having trouble breathing.
"o..one... m...mi..minute" She stuttered out before smiling up at him, panting rather heavily. It seemed if one didn't stop they might just die of laughing. She pondered that a while and decided that dieing laughing would be a good thing. Better then dieing some other ways.

He had stopped, settling to sit at her side, one paw raised as if debating another assault (or perhaps of splashing water on her) before lowering it to rest on the cool sand. Well, breathing was important after all. Still, he liked it when Kwaruza laughed, it was a pretty sound.
Batting at her once more, Ali stood to his paws, each limb stretching in turn, a yawn parting his maw. The sun was warm on his back, so peaceful, the quiet rolling of the waves as they danced against the short, the sand beneath his paws.
A goofy smile, he walked up the shore before flopping onto his back in the sand with a contented sigh, gaze turned to the sky to see the clouds, watching the sea birds.
Ah, it really was a beautiful day. Life simply did not get any better (well, maybe if he'd had some catnip on him it might have).

She smiled and then followed him. He was a funny thing.
She laid down next to him and lent against him slightly. She seemed rather tired suddenly and this seemed like the perfect place to curl up and fall asleep. She trust Ali, even if he was a little strange. She felt safe by him and then slowly, not purposely she fell asleep with a rather large smile on her face.
