He eye rolled at the silly nickname and idly slapped his tail on the soft, mushy earth.
Observing further and later amused with her missed catch, he rose to his paws and followed her into the water, stopping and staring down on her.
"Nice try."

Pilate spit water and got back up on all fours. She frowned, embarrassed that she had missed that fish. Honestly fishing had never been a strength of hers... hunting was though at least.
"T-thanks.." She muttered , still pretty embarrassed. "I can't believe I let that one get away." The cheetah frowned deeper.

"You're too clumsy." He blurted out at once, wading around to find a good 'stalking' spot. Once comfortable, he sat still. More still than any rock in Africa.
His blue orbs were fixed on a circling shadow. It swam fast, but close to his reach. Closer and closer it swam. It was practically begging to be caught! With a steady aim he swiped at the fish, sending it out of the water and onto the bank, writhing and squirming for dear life.

Pilates maw opened in shock, he knew what he was doing. Though there had never been any doubt. She tossed her head up and in a prissy manner and looked back down at the pound watching for any fish.
As luck would have it... another fish swam close enough to be an easy catch. Pilate swiped at it and .... missed?! WHAT?
"What am I do wrong?" The cheetah blinked back up at the triumphant Rush.

He smirked, now cocky of his so-called abilities. She failed again. Her faults were too obviously.
A repeat of his mistakes, he mused. Many hours he spent without any choice but to fish until he got it right. It was cruel yet simple in his case: Learn to catch food or die from nothing. Yes, there's always land animals to run after but that's for the lions and cheetahs. His talents lay in the water.
Then he wondered how long she'd be trying. A month, a week? To him, it couldn't have been too long. She has nothing to show for it.
He lightly padded beside her and sat, staring down into the water instead of at her curious eyes.
"You rush things. Wait. Aim. Fire."

Pilate watched him for a moment, her look couldn't be more puzzled.
"You are aware Cheetahs are known for speed," She pawed at him sticking her tongue out, "Alright, so show a girl how its done the leopard way." The cheetah stuck her tongue out at him again and giggled.
She really hadn't perfected her fishing skills... ever. The cheetah had gotten lucky with a fish ONCE when she was a kid but since then the cheetahs fishing skills seemed to be on a downward slope to hades.
Ah well, maybe this leopard could help.

"Speed is key." He added after the cheetah's words, glancing her briefly.
"You just have to know when to use it." He narrowed his eyes at the shadow swirling around them.
"Fish are stupid and only really move when you move. If ya stay still, you'll catch'em. Get it?" He grinned at her while staring at the shadow.
"Aim your move for the future. You want your fish to land on the bank and not back into the water, right? Think about slapping it high."

Pilate nodded it all made sense. So she did as Rush said and stood perfectly still watching the and waiting. Sure enough a fish swim up.
Pilate stayed still....... the fish nibbled at her paw. She stayed put... and then SWIPE!
Flop.
She had a fish of her own on the rocky shore. The cheetah blinked in disbelief. No way!
"RUSH! " She looked up at him and smiled, " I DID IT!"

His blue eyes flashed as the fish flew out of the water. His heart swelled with pride at his 'pupil'. He couldn't help but to comment. "Haha! Wasn't that hard, now was it?" Ruu'sh grinned, padding back to the bank to his catch.
He turned his head to stare at at the cheetah.
Maybe she could teach me hunting...

Pilate splashed her way back to shore, scaring the drinking neighbors and fish. The cheetah didn't give a ******** though, she had fish! YAY!
With out much hesitation the cheetah destroyed her fish in a few hungry gulps. It was just the thing she'd been wanting for a while. In a matter of moments only bones remained.
"That was SOOOOOO good," She declared letting out a belch. . . Now she wanted more.

Ruu'sh watched the cheetah with amusement, while ripping off a chunk of meat from his catch. Certainly after teaching the female how to catch fish, he wouldn't have to get up. He was almost sure she'd send fish flying his way.
He smirked at that thought; pawing up fish like it was nothing. Like a lazy king over his pride.
I guess that's what those lions live like. He frowned, taking another bite from his fish.

Pilate splashed her way back into the watering hole and stood still, waiting and watching. She smacked a fish onto the rocky shores effortlessly, and then another. Holy s**t, the leopard was on to something.
Splashing her way back she giggled, "You can have one," She smiled, "But I get the bigger of the two." The cheetah stuck her nose high in the air and marched to her own fish devouring it in seconds.
Oh boy, this was fun, and food was good.

He laughed at her. "Sure."
After taking a few gulps of her latest catch, Ruu'sh rose to his feet and stretched his limbs. Time to walk it off.. he told himself, glancing over at the cheetah curiously.
"Pilate?.. You know of any interestin' places?" he asked. His voice was playful yet he seriously wanted to leave the watering hole. Even he himself didn't exactly know why...besides walking his meal off.

Pilate tilted her head and nodded . "Sure , Rush, sure," She pranced a few paces ahead of him and stuck her nose a bit in the air. She was just playing.
"Where does a leopard like to go or do any how?" She'd met two leopards in her life time. one had been really serious and the other was a cub who liked examining rotting rabbits. For science, the cub had claimed.
The fish had been good fuel, the cheetah was feeling bouncy and fit again and not weak from hunger. The watering hole was a good stop. For sure.

"Well.." He started, looking quite smug. "We leopards look for trees to climb, things to chase and cheetahs to stalk." He grinned at her, stepping ahead.
He paused, turning his head to her. "But for now? I'll just follow you."
A companionship? Maybe. Or just the starting of a really good friendship. Only time would tell...
