Faolan just gave her a mad grin at the question. "Part of the fun is bein' surprised, lass. Trust in me, eh?" He kissed her forehead, then led her from the church back outside, squinting a bit at the sudden brightness. Standing there a moment, he finally decided on the next place to go and began walking, pulling Elle along playfully.

"I trust you," Ellandr said, no trace of doubt in her voice or her heart. Then she dug her heels in a bit and smiled slightly mischeviously. "As long as said surprise doesn't wind up with me getting "Property of Faolan Grady" tattooed anywhere."

The young man laughed out loud--more than a few passers-by gave them curious or rude looks--and hugged his wife to his side. "Ay, wife, I have no need for that. The ribbon and ring are proof enough as a stamp of who you belong to."
He led her down the streets, twisting and turning, seemingly lost, until they arrived at a small park. Smiling a bit, Faolan let go of Elle's hand and went to the fence, resting his arms on top of it to watch the kids playing and running about.

Ellandra followed Faolan to the fence, a bit mystified as to why they had come here, but knowing it was important to her husband for some reason or other. Watching the children in and of itself was rather nice. . . would their little one be like these children someday? She barely caught herself from dropping her hand to her belly, unsure if such a motion was acceptable in a public place or not.

"You know, growing up in Farstep, no one ever really thought to point out that I was different, or if they did, it was never in a mean way. I mean, kids do say cruel things to each other--I was often reminded of being an unwanted baby, that I wasn't really my Da's son. Despite that, I was really better off in a place like the carnival where the abnormal is more readily accepted," Faolan said, looking at Ellandra. "Those kids there are normal, probably have both of their real parents, and will never know about being poor. I feel sorry for them, though. They're like you were: sheltered."
Turning to look back at the children, he noticed a little girl looking at them and smiled at her, giving a little wave. His smile broadened when the little girl waved back, returning his smile. The little girl ran off to play with the other children and Faolan watched her go, smile fading slightly. "I always wanted a bairn of my own, Elle. You know that? Da's always told me not to have children, though."

Ellandra stpped up to Faolan and placed a hand on top of his arms, watching him with a smile that was a little on the sad side. "Well... I'm sure he's got his reasons for telling you that," she said quietly, though inwardly, the fear that Keagan might be unhappy to hear that there was a baby on the way welled up and began to rise. "But. . . despite them, you are having a child - we are - and I can't help but think... that we were supposed to."
She blinked up at Faolan and moved her hand in favor of hugging her husband as much as she could manage in their positions. "And besides, you aalready have a child, in a fashion; though Ziazan's growing up much faster than those children will." She paused for a moment, then sighed. "Being sheltered isn't really a bad thing when it's more... temporary, it's supposed to be a gradual introduction into the world, to ensure the least hurt. . . my case was a bit overdone," she admitted.
She didn't dare to say quite how extremely protected her father kept her, how she'd struggled after he'd died, how she was relieved rather than excited when her books began selling, because it meant she was finally taking care of herself in a small manner. . . it was all old pain, and nothing of it mattered in the least.

Da just worries, I guess, about what I'd be passing on. I don't know much about the sort of demon my father is and I worry, too, sometimes about what I am," Faolan said, hugging Elle against his side, eyes still on the children.
He chuckled at the mention of Zia. "I'm not sure it's much of a child to me, more like a sibling sometimes. Or a really mouthy brat I keep around for entertainment." He looked down at her. "You're out of your shell now and in the world. I guess in my own way, I was sheltered, too."

Ellandra sighed softly and snuggled up to her husband. "Well, I'm not worried," she said simply, smiling up at him. "If you weren't meant to have children, this baby wouldn't b coming, I think. It wants to be born, I'm sure." She tilted her head a bit, her own eyes going over to the children.
"Papa would have called Ziazan a fussbudget," she said, giggling a little.

Faolan chuckled. "Zia is all that and more. Kid likes ordering me around. It's amazing. Now that its bigger, it thinks its the one in charge . . . even if its only about half my height."
He moved away from the fence, leading Ellandra to a snowcone vendor. "Elle, if I wasn't meant to have children, I'd have been born sterile. I'm sure that our having children is pretty destined, too, though."

"Ziazan worries for you, that's all," Ellandra said quietly, her eyes lighting up at the sight of the snowcone vendor. "Oh! I haven't had one of those in years!" She exclaimed happily, picking up her pace a little at the sight of the iced-treat stand.

"I know it does," Faolan said, and smiled when she hurried to the vendor. He ordered two of them, picking raspberry flavor for himself, then went to sit on a nearby bench after paying.

Ellandra took her own snowcone - strawberry cheesecake flavored- and followed Faolan to the bench. "I've never had raspberry-flavored... is it any good?" It was so nice to just sit here in a park, eating snowcones and sitting with her husband. Lately it seemed that one or the other of them was always busy; her during the day doing Keagan's bookkeeping while he read the paper and indulged in that sludge-coffee, and Faolan in the later afternoon and evening, doing various things around the carnival. . .

Faolan looked at her over the snowcone, having just taken a bit, then held it out to her with a grin. "I like it well enough. It's blue."
He realized it how very date-like this outing felt now and it made him all sorts of happy. Their meeting had pretty much sealed their fate that they really had no choice other than a whirlwind romance and quick marriage, but Faolan sometimes regretted not really getting to do the whole dating thing with Ellandra. They didn't know each other and would now get to spend the rest of their lives learning who they were, but going out was also fun and he hadn't gotten to do that with her, and probably wouldn't much once their baby was born.

Ellandra giggled and tasted it. "Blue is a flavor now, is it?"
She nibbled at her own snowcone after that for a few moments, then paused thoughtfully and looked at it. "Want a taste of mine?" She asked, smiling. "It's strawberry cheesecake flavored - not blue, but good."

Faolan nodded. "Blue tastes like . . . blue." He gave a cheeky sort of grin at that, then leaned over and took a small nibble of Ellandra's snowcone, somehow managing to make it sexy. "Mm, I didn't even know cake of cheese came strawberry-flavored."
He looked down when a ball hit his foot, then reached down and picked it up the small, brightly colored rubber sphere. Two small children had been running after it and stopped when he'd picked it up. Smiling he held it out to them. "Here, it's alright."
The smaller of the two inched forward, reaching out and took it, then darted off, followed by the older child. A woman, likely their mother, caught up with them and seemed to be scolding them. She cast a dirty look at Faolan, making a gesture than was somewhere between rude and warding, then dragged the children off.
Faolan just sighed. "They'll come throw their money at our feet and take their pleasures in our tents, but they don't want us in their world. She doesn't see past my horns and no outsider's going to see past those of our child, either, Elle. You gonna be able to live with that?"
