While Setsushi frets, Rika arches an eyebrow and leans in closer to Boyan. "The Chaoses have limited knowledge, then, do they? What limits are those -- do you know?"
Not only would this knowledge be useful to their return, Rika thinks privately, but it would be a very nice tidbit to share with the Imperial Scholars...

Boyan doesn't know; doesn't truly care to ask. But they never seemed to answer questions about the intentions of others. But then again, he'd only asked about Jin and the Silver Dragon.
There are certainly things they have no real INTEREST in, Boyan thinks. Matters of Name, he thinks it was? The Mist Sorcerer had made a comment that bothered Boyan; said that Boyan was Lucid. When he asked, to make sure he was not, it did not answer.

Rika leans back, her normally impassive face now slowly brightening with a smile.
"Then the Oracle is not even close to omniscient," she murmurs.
Setsushi watches her with concern, then glances back to Boyan. "... But it can predict the future, correct? Will the Empire..."
He pauses, glancing at Rika again, and swallows, as if this thought is so uncomfortable to even speculate upon, he cannot say it. "... fall?"

Boyan doesn't even consult the Chaos.
--He thinks, probably, that is what happened. Maybe. He doesn't know anything about the Empire, really; what it is, what it stands for, what it's like...
But he is pretty sure, yes, that it did, or will, or that something had happened, but yes. Pretty much something like that.
Boyan's knowledge of Porcelain; of the Chaoses, of Porcelain who are physically like Grandpa and Rika and everyone from this Golden World... He'd known that they were very old things. He has very little doubt in his mind that Boyan comes AFTER Hyouka, which would mean Tsukiba comes AFTER Setsushi... that the Kouyo that Boyan could have SWORN he's seen somewhere before but JUST CAN'T PLACE it?
He doesn't know. He just doesn't know.
But he remembers Dragonlamp, he remembers the small, sleeping Porcelain, the Lucid who had so angrily told him that as long as humans are deaf, Porcelain are dumb, and as long as Porcelain are dumb, humans are deaf. And how Porcelain were little more than cute puppies to be had as pets until Tsukiba came and pulled them away from that place and brought them to Gaia to be CHILDREN instead.
So while he can't say with absolute certainty without consulting the Chaos that the empire WILL fall, he does not think his memories would be what they are if it had not.
Goes Grandfather Setsushi still wish Boyan to ask?

Setsushi grows visibly uncomfortable as Boyan's description continues, though Rika remains impassive.
But... it all seems very strange... and if Setsushi and Rika and everyone are here, then... maybe there's some sort of...
As Setsushi's mind finds itself looped into knots, Rika glances at him, then tries to divine what he was attempting to say: "Might there not be some sort of paradox if we, Porcelain who are 'ancient' to you, come into contact with you, Porcelain of the future? Perhaps there will not be, but... can the Chaos illuminate this problem at all?"

Boyan chews his lower lip, forehead knotted in confusion.
Could she rephrase that? Boyan thinks he understands SOMEWHAT what she's trying to say, but he can't really ask something he can't really understand. Something along the lines of "What if that stuff she said?" doesn't really seem to hold much meaning, either.
He will need her to chew the concept up a little, or at least cut it into smaller bites. This Boyan IS capable of understanding, he thinks, but Rika's concepts, her thoughts, her words will have to be rearranged in order for him to do so. sweatdrop

Rika strokes her chin, contemplating Boyan's request seriously.
"First," she murmurs, "perhaps... When, exactly, will the Empire fall and these events take place? If the Chaos does not deal in years, can it give us a relative time?"
Setsushi is discouraged to hear Rika already using 'will' instead of 'may'... sweatdrop

Boyan tilts his head even further to the side, pausing for quite some time as his face goes completely blank.
He sees... little wire bracelets. Many, many wire bracelets. And the chaoses say that if Boyan is referring to the removal of Name (Which he, perhaps, thinks he may be? He doesn't quite know, but he has very specific memories of memories once seen or shown, once upon a time), then it falls on another wheel, and is not falling on this one.
Boyan understands, somewhat, but doesn't understand.

Setsushi leans forward eagerly. "Then that means the Empire will not fall, doesn't it?"
... Rika is rather more disturbed by the idea of a 'Removal of Name,' which she conveys to Boyan projectionally for the first time. "Name removed? What does that mean? Who removed it? For what purpose--" She stops herself and leans back. "... Can you divine any of those?
"... Even if you can't, though, I suppose that means that whatever is going on now does not lead to that fate, so it is not our problem..."

When Boyan first gained the Celestial Chaos, he had a vision of a Porcelain and a human-- the Porcelain was gazing up at the human adoringly. And then, he saw the human as a ruler, the same Porcelain now small, sitting in her lap. He can't for the life of them recall their faces, or even their distinguishing features. All but the message had faded over time. Or rather, he'd simply pushed it out of his mind as irrelevant.
But it returned to his thoughts when he thought of the fall of the empire-- Porcelain becoming small and weak, perhaps depending on humans? Boyan doesn't really know the implication. It could mean anything, really. Boyan's interpretation is his own, and his own interpretations are usually fairly flawed. But he asked if the removal of Name was the proper term for what he saw way back then.
It's only part of it, Boyan has learned. The rest is a bunch of things Boyan doesn't understand, save for the pushing and pulling on the strings of magic, though he doesn't understand the implications.
As for who and why, "Various parties working in concert for various reasons." ...And not all of them are available to the Chaos.

"... That all sounds like rather meaningless information." If the Chaos has nothing to say about how Name is removed or if there is a danger of it happening to them some other way...
What other questions can they ask of it that will help them return home...?

Well, of course Rika's method will succeed. How could it not succeed? It brought her to Gaia, after all.
Rika punches Setsushi lightly, then returns her attention to Boyan, growing more serious. "But that will only remedy the manifestation of the problem, not treat its cause..."
