I personally would prefer a request thread, if only because I am an horrible, horrible elitist ho and don't really want art that im not attracted to. (though the art that I am not attracted to is... a rather short list)
With a request thread, it would be easy to either use a common mule or to have everyone who wants to be actively involved in it have their own posts, manage it, and pretty much accept what they want ? Mayhaps ?
And to do a very successful art contest nowaday you need to either be VERY popular in R&C or offer about 30 mil worth of prices, sooo....

I'm pretty picky with art, myself. Although I'm touched by any picture of my characters, if I'm going to be spending millions on them I would like them to be more my taste.
I also suspect that if we each have a different post listing our preferences and so forth, we will be able to accept a wide variety of artists, too, because I like not just gorgeous painty and cel-shading jobs (like everyone else) but sketches, chibis, well-done stick figures, etc. I think we will all end up having different preferences, so lots of different artists will have a chance.

I think I agree with the request thread, but for a different reason. Having been involved in art contests before, I've noticed that there's usually a few characters that get 65936 entries (either due to a large prize or design features), and a large number that are basically ignored. I think a request thread would alleviate this issue slightly.
I wonder how it would function, though. Do we all pool funds that are then spent collectively, or would it be one thread where we all can post requests, but everyone manages their own funding?

Either Rika or a new mule handles the request thread. In the request thread, there are a number of possible subjects listed, plus a final post saying "you can also draw any of the Porcelain shop characters at all; click on the facewall for their bios." Each of the subject notes how much gold is available for this subject and who the artist needs to get approved by (and whether you can send this person PMs, etc.)
We have a thread (like, say, here in scrap) where people can state "I am donating x amount of gold to y's pool." They then send a trade to the mule. They have to trust me and/or the lieuts to use the funds as they intended. I think allowing 20+ people onto one mule is just too disorganized and risky (not like I distrust you guys, but I mean, we wouldn't be sure of who responded to PMs or accepted trade and we might trap ourselves into inconsitencies XD; )
In the thread in scrap, people can also beg for donations to their subject, and they can be pretty confident that at least I will donate to them.
Is this good/stupid?
