Hippolyta brightened visibly when he offered, going beyond her expectations. Things were so much easier now! She knew him, sort of, and he was nice, and he was close to her home. She wouldn't have to look any more, or risk finding someone only to find out they weren't suitable.
A bright smile moved over her face, reaching up into her red eyes. "Would you? Really?" She said, a bit breathless with excitement. "I mean, I kinda hoped... you were so nice, and you look so interesting, and I don't know if I'd find anyone else... I just... You'd be okay with it?" She gasped out. "As my... friend?"
It was a new sort of thought, that one. She'd only ever had females for friends, but it seemed a natural thing. Better, even, to have a male friend for this necessary thing, than just some stranger.

Jahazi smiled at her reaction, pleased. He nodded happily. "I would love to b-be your f-friend, Hippolyta." He said with a big smile. He really had no idea what he was getting himself into, and he wasn't sure if he could be a father. That thought brought a question to his mind, which he spoke to her.
"B-but, I was wondering, would I have t-to join your p-pride?" He really had no idea how prides worked, and hers seemed even stranger than most he heard of. "Or would I j-just be able to g-go after we.... do that?" He asked, very curious about the whole situation, though he was still a little wary of his quick decision. He hoped he had made the right choice.

The dark lioness started at the question, blinking for a moment.
"Oh! No, I'm sorry... you can't join my pride. Even if you wanted to, you wouldn't be allowed. I can't even keep any male cubs I have, because of that rule. There's a neighbor pride that takes them in as foster cubs, but I can only keep my daughters with me." She shrugged a little, not sure if he would really understand. Still, she was all but glowing with happiness, this quest thing working out so much better than it had last time, with much more satisfying results too.
And who knew? She'd made a new friend in Jahazi, and though he'd have to stay here when she went back, there was nothing to say she couldn't see him again later, when she was traveling again. Males had their place, on the outside, but it was just a fact of life that once in a while, you'd have to cross that line. No reason why it couldn't be a pleasant thing when you did do it.

Jahazi tilted his head, curious. Not allowed? So males weren't allowed? How strange, he thought. "Wouldn't be easier for your p-pride if they had males, though?" He asked, "I mean, then you w-wouldn't have to go searching for m-males, right?"
He shrugged the thought aside though, not wanting to pester her about her pride. "I'm s-sorry, you d-don't have to answer that. And, if you'd like, I c-can take any of the male c-cubs." He said with a nod. He wouldn't mind having a little group of his sons around. Especially if it were only one or two, that would be much easier. If it were more... he might just have her give them to the other pride she spoke of, and he could visit them perhaps.

Hippolyta tilted her head as she thought, a little, sad smile on her face.
"My mother was betrayed by males in her past... she made the pride as a place where females could live apart from them. The whole purpose of it is a sanctuary for females. But still, if we want to grow and raise new generations, it does require that we step outside once in a while." She shrugged lightly, not really minding opening up about the pride's purpose.
"Would you really want to?" She said, almost shyly. "I think... I would rather any male children be with their father, than a group of unrelated lions. Blood to blood, you know. A stronger bond than mere fostering." She nodded a little more firmly now, finding the rightness in it.
"Perhaps I... could even visit, once in a while." She ducked her head, shrugging her shoulders loosely as she scuffed a paw in the dirt.

Jahazi smiled at her, and in a rare moment of bravery, he walked closer to her and nuzzled her gently. He only meant for it to be a calming and friendly nuzzle, hoping to let her know that whatever she wanted was acceptable to him.
"Of c-course, I understand. I would gladly take care of them, Hippolyta." He smiled as he backed off a little, not wanting her to get uncomfortable. "I have to say, this is something I n-never thought would h-happen." He chuckled bashfully, nervous and unsure. He wasn't very good with any social stiuation, and one as unusual as this made it ten times worse.
But at the same time he was excited. The idea of such a strange relationship was new, and he was hoping deep down that she would have at least one boy.

Hippolyta started at the touch, her eyes wide in surprise. It wasn't that touch was a totally foreign thing to her, or that she wasn't affectionate with her family and the friends she had in the pride... but that she hadn't really expected affection like that from a male.
A tentative smile spread over her face and she found herself wishing she'd have at least one boy too.
