The image that came to Shade's head at the mention of frat boys being 'pack mules' was an amusing one to say the least. He was still grinning at the thought when Verdant asked about whether or not be was home-school. "My school's about a block away from where I am." He wished he didn't have to go though - he hated all the homework the teachers insisted on assigning! He wondered if kids that WERE home-schooled got less work. If so, then he envied them. Then again, if it weren't for going to school, he probably wouldn't have any friends. Playing video games so much tended to narrow down one's social life.

"What about you?" He tilted his head, his ears twitching a little as he spoke. "Are you in college or something...?" He assumed that Verdant was college or university age anyway - he was definitely older, that much was obvious.

"Wow, the grocery store and your school are both so close! Talk about a good location." The shy little imp then asked him if he was in college. Verdant chuckled and shook his head. "No, but I'm old enough to be enrolled. I'm not quite smart enough to be in school, though, so I sing. It's my one real talent, aside from being able to crack a walnut with my as-" Verdant decided not to finish that sentence around this kid. That'd be a horrible idea!

"Uh, anywhoo, I perform at small venues and cafés around the city. It pays pretty well, but I'd stay in school if I were you. You know what they say: Knowledge is Power!"

Shade's eyes widened a little as Verdant mentioned that he sang at cafes and such. That sounded way cooler than college! Oh course, anything that wasn't school sounded pretty cool to the impling...but singing was still pretty awesome! He's never met someone with talent like that before! And apparently, he'd missed most of the statement about the walnut...

"I guess, but...that sounds really fun!" His tail swished back and forth with excitement, a grin coming to his face. "Maybe...I could...go watch you sometime?" He scratched the back of his head, suddenly feeling a little bit shy about asking. Most of the music he listened to was on disks or on the radio - it'd be cool to actually listen to someone sing LIVE for once.
PostPosted: Wed May 13, 2009 10:01 pm

"Oh? You'd want to go to one of my performances? That'd be so cool!" Then Verdant remembered what happened the last time he took a new friend to one of his concerts. E He'd tackled his ex-drummer, stained his favorite stage outfit, and accidentally made Ellandra cry. Not exactly his best night. "But maybe it'd be best if I gave you a private show. Then again, I don't have my guitar on me... but maybe someone in your apartment complex has one?"

Verdant didn't want another new friend to deal with the same crap that Ellandra had. It was his fault, but she was probably still blaming herself.

Shade blinked as Verdant suggested giving him a private show. The idea sounded cool to him...but he didn't really know anyone in his building with a guitar. He wracked his brain, trying to remember a friend of his mother's who maybe played the instrument, but could think of no one. Verdant was the first person he'd ever met with such musical talent.

"I...can't think of anyone off the top of my head..." he said, scratching behind one of his ears as he spoke. He wanted to see Verdant play though...maybe they could do it some other time then? That might be easier, since the older male didn't have his guitar with him right now. "We don't have to do it today. Maybe...I could go over to your place or something sometime...?"

Maybe it wasn't the best idea to suggest something like that to a guy he'd only JUST met and was clearly much older than himself. His judgment, however, told him that Verdant wasn't a bad guy and the impling usually trusted his instincts. In fact, he was enjoying being around Verdant - maybe they'd become really good friends!

"Aw, shoot! I was really hoping to play "A Siren's Soliloquy" or "Anna Molly" for you! Well, if you aren't busy tomorrow, you could come over and I could play for you. It's better for me tomorrow 'cos my apartment's an absolute mess." Verdant grinned deviously and said, "Plus, maybe you can distract the landlady before she tries to force anymore bittermelon casserole down my throat. I nearly died the last time she made it."

Verdant was surprised that Shade had asked to hang out at his apartment. They'd only just met, after all, and Verdant was older than the impling by at least five years or so. Still, it's not like Verdant was some horrible, slimy teenager-eating monster in a corset and red pumps, or worse, an ephebophile! Verdant cringed at the word; the matron of the youth center he'd grown up in had warned everyone of the dangers of *****, *********, and ephebophiles.

"They look like ordinary people, kids, and they will take advantage of you at any opportunity!" Then she cried "BOO!" at the top of her lungs and scared everyone off to bed. Her approach to nurturing was... different.

"Say, while I think of songs to play, is their a band or artist that you prefer?" If they were going to be friends, Verdant would need to know what kind of music Shade liked. It was a good way to keep the conversation going too!

Shade nodded enthusiastically, already looking forward to it. He had the day off from school tomorrow, so he didn't think there would be a problem. He grinned at the mention of distracting the landlady and laughed before nodding again. "I don't think that'll be too hard." As long as it didn't wind up being shoved down his throat - that didn't sound like the most pleasant of experiences.

He wondered if he should tell his mother about Verdant - would she mind that he was hanging around with someone so much older than him? He wasn't sure...she was always saying how much she wanted him to go out more though. Maybe she wouldn't care. He hoped not - he was enjoying the older male's company.

Shade took a moment to respond as Verdant asked him about music preferences. "I...listen to just about anything." After a moment, he added, "Except rap..." He wrinkled his nose at the thought of the particular type of music. He could handle SOME songs from that particular genre, but for the most part, he found it kind of annoying.

The impling looked up as they arrived at the apartment building. He'd almost passed right by it, what with being caught up in discussions with Verdant, as well as with his own thoughts. He led the older make into the building, holding the door open for him. "We should probably take the elevator - me and Mom live on the third floor."
PostPosted: Fri May 15, 2009 9:57 pm

"Cool! I can't wait to play for you. I would have just invited you to a concert as my guest, but I learned my lesson the last time..." Verdant wasn't going into details and wasn't entirely sure why he let that slip. He wanted to talk about it, chat with Ellandra and find out how she felt since then, but he hadn't gotten the chance to see her again. Well, at least he knew where her apartment was. "Anywhoo, I'll need to stock up on snacks and the like; the frat boys clean me out every so often."

Verdant smiled when he heard Shade's response to his question about his music preferences. "I'm no fan of rap myself. I mean, it used to be good, but mainstream rap is far too materialistic for my taste. An annoying bass line coupled with lyrics about "da chronic and da hoes" just does not cater to me. Give me lyrical complexity and throat-lacerating screams over rap any day!"

Verdant and Shade walked into the brick apartment building and headed towards the elevator per Shade's request. Verdant wasn't up to walking up three flights of stairs at the moment anyhow. They waited for it to descend, then hopped inside when the doors slid open. He let Shade push the button for the thrid floor; Verdant was likely to press all the buttons for the fun of it.

At the mention of 'last time' Shade found himself growing curious. What HAD happened? Obviously, something had gone wrong had gone wrong though. He would've asked, but Verdant didn't seem to really want to talk about it. So, he kept his mouth shut about the matter, responding to the older male's next statement instead. "I can bring some stuff over too. We have a few bags of chips in the apartment."

The impling nodded in agreement, glad to hear that he and Verdant had something in common. He had a few friends that listened to rap and he usually put up with it, but for the most part, he preferred most types of rock. "Ditto. The repeating lyrics are just...irritating." Something he could actually sing along to was nice...most of the time, he couldn't understand what the hell the rap-artist was saying.

Shade leaned against the wall of the elevator once he'd pressed the button, waiting for it to finish rising. Once he felt it jerk to a stop, followed by the usual 'ding' before the door opened up, he led Verdant out into the hall. "The place might be kinda messy...I haven't gotten around to doing the dishes yet." he said as he stopped in front of apartment 103 and began unlocking the door.

The apartment he lead Verdant into was fairly simple. A small kitchen, which also served as the dining room, was what was first seen. Like Shade had mentioned before, a fair sized pile of dishes could be seen over in the sink. Beyond that was a carpeted space, a little smaller than the kitchen, with a small couch, a little t.v - where Shade's game system was hooked up -, and a couple plants. A small window with simple blue curtains could be seen just to the right of the television. That area was considered to be the living room. A hallway was attached to the living room, which would lead towards the two small bedrooms and the bathroom that were in the apartment.

"Thanks again for helping me with these." Shade smiled to Verdant and moved to set the bag he was carrying onto the kitchen table. "I really appreciate it."
PostPosted: Sat May 16, 2009 6:44 pm

"Yeah? That'd be really nice of you, but bring it in a duffel bag; if the frat boys see them, they'll be gone before you even get to the door. Seriously, they'll be on those chips like Pamela Andersen on a skeezy drummer!" He snapped his fingers to emphasize his point. How he did so while holding onto his parasol was a mystery to him, but it didn't really matter.

He grinned at Shade's agreement on rap. With a nice dose of humor lacing his voice, he said, "Thats like saying Prada's are just shoes, or vodka's just a morning beverage." He wasn't sure about the vodka, though. That was just what his landlady said that whenever she caught him in the mornings. "Rock still has a lot to do with sex and drugs, but I find that it's done in a more tasteful fashion than rap."

Verdant waved off Shade's comment on the messiness of his apartment with a parasol-weildeing hand. "I'm sure I've seen worse- far worse. One time, I had a gig at this Goth venue on the other side of town. I was really sweaty and smelled like death, so I was going to use the dressing room shower. I walk into the bathroom and close the door. The light's off, so I turn on the light and screamed like a woman. There were cockroaches covering every inch of the damn bathroom. When they all crawled down the tub's drain, it was like watching the paint on the walls get sucked right off. It was so horrible. I think one of them uttered something anti-semitic!"

The imp and nymph walked through the apartment door and into a small kitchen. It was quaint, cute, and way bigger than his; it was probably a lot better stocked as well. Verdant set his bag onto the kitchen table next to the bag Shade had been carrying. He saw the plants in the living room and was just about to hover over them with glee when Shade thanked him.

"Oh, it's no problem! To help those in need is what I live for. Plus, it was fun talking to you- Whoa! What's that thing connected to your T.V.?" His eyes grew wide with curiosity as he eyed the video game console from the kitchen. He'd never seen a game system before; Matron Sandy said that video games were bad for your brain cells and that reading was more entertaining anyway.

Shade blinked at the cockroach story and made a face - his mother, busy or not, would never allow the apartment to get THAT dirty! The picture in his mind made him shudder, feeling rather disgusted at the fact that the owner of the establishment had allowed the place to get that filthy. "That's gross!" The impling began taking things out of the one grocery bag so he could start putting them away. "Did you say anything to the guy running the place?"

A look of surprise came over Shade's face as Verdant asked about his game system - had he never seen one before? He thought everyone knew what those were! Perhaps his family hadn't allowed him to play them? "That's for my video games." He looked back to Verdant after a moment, his tail swishing back and forth. "Have you ever played before?" He'd been going to offer the older male something to drink, but he supposed he could wait until he'd finished explaining the game console - if Verdant wanted to know how it worked anyway. He'd never met someone who didn't know what a video game system looked like!

"I didn't say anything to the guy. I didn't even play for him. I kinda just spent the night in the fetal position in my hammock." Verdant poked the strange device connected to the T.V. Shade then told him what the device was- a video game console! He looked at it with childish awe and beamed at the impling. "I've never even seen a video game system, let alone played one. What kind of system is it?" He didn't even know why he was asking that. It's not like he even knew about any game systems. Hell, he thought an X-box was a dirty word referring to a lady's naughty parts. When it came to music and rock, Verdant was a vast well of knowledge. When it came to video games, he was worse than a "noob".

Shade couldn't help but feel a little amused by how awed Verdant was by the game console - it was, well, cute, for lack of a better word. It seemed odd, using such a term to describe someone older than him, but it was the only word that came to mind at the moment.

"It's a PS2; most of the games I have for it are RPGs...that's short for role playing games." The impling doubted that Verdant knew what the terms meant and that he'd have a fair bit of explaining to do. He didn't really mind though - it wasn't often that people were genuinely curious about his interests. Maybe Verdant would even play a few games with him! "I usually play them when I'm not at school." Much to his mother's dismay, of course - she didn't think it was good for him to spend all his time in the house, playing the things.
PostPosted: Mon May 18, 2009 12:04 am

Verdant turned to face Shade so quickly his neck cracked. "There's a PS One? Whoa! So, then that means this one is, like, upgraded? That's amazing! Technology and I don't usually get along too well; it's one of the reasons I've never played video games. I have a hard enough time trying to program my VCR." Were VCRs obsolete? He had no idea, but he'd gotten it at a yard sale for real cheap. He'd also bought some movies, but they were all in black-and-white, were in a foreign language, and involved talking animals. Suffice to say, he didn't really watch them all that often.

"Oh, I've heard of RPGs! That's, that's when you play as a warrior and go around beating up monsters to get gold and drop-items, right?" He had recently read Final Fantasy for Complete Morons a few days ago at the library; one of the frat boys needed help getting past one of those ULTIMA things and Verdant had let him borrow the book. Speaking of which, that douche still had it! "Not to impose or bug you or anything, but... do you think I could play one of these 'RPGs' with you?"

"Yeah, basically." Shade moved next to Verdant and knelt down, smiling to the him. "There's a PS3 out, but it's a lot of money, so I'm just sticking with this one." He was perfectly happy with his current game console anyway. He blinked as Verdant mentioned not being able to program his VCR and chuckled a bit. "I could help you with that if you want."

The impling's face brightened as Verdant mentioned wanting to play with him. Granted, most of his games were one player, but he had nothing against watching. Showing someone how to play could be fun. "You wouldn't be imposing! That'd be cool with me!!" Did he sound too excited? He hoped not. He didn't want to seem irritating. "I've got plenty of games you could try out!"
