"Noooooooooooo!" His efforts to escape were thwarted when a large wave actually pushed him toward his sister, making it easy for her to lick him. "Aw maaaaan. gonk That's not right. emo " He tried to brush off his cheek on her back in an effort to get rid of the 'infection' before he could catch it.

"I'm almost afraid to ask what exactly it is they are doing," Toshiro remarked, shaking his head as he watched his children playing about in the water. "Looks like some odd version of 'tag'."

"With their mouths," the mare mused. "I can't say I've seen anything quite like it before. Nor am I certain I want to. Still, I do wonder what they're up to. Jii looks as though he's just swallowed a bug." She grinned at the colt's expression of stunned horror. Still, they were getting awfully far out...

Chione giggled uncontrollably. It came to an abrupt halt as she came to a sudden realization. "Ugh! Little brother germs!" Face twisting, she jerked backwards as she attempted to pull away from him, spitting all the while. "Ptoo! Gotta get 'em out!"

"HA!" Jiyuu exclaimed, raising his head and wings in triumph. He flicked some more water at his sister with his tail before pushing his way through the shallows and back to the beach proper.

"And now he's strutting..." Toshiro replied, cocking his head a bit at the scene. None of it really made any sense. Oh well, at least they seemed to be having fun. Maybe. "Did you ever play such games as a foal?"

"Blegh! I need an adult." Chione followed behind him slowly, stricken and digusted. What had possessed her to do that? With so much at stake? Her little brother of all things. Those were worse than cooties. She'd have spots in no time. Then itchies. What if her hair fell out? She shot her father a pleading glance.

"Looks like it might be 'daddy time' again." Kindle grinned softly as she shook her head. "I don't think so. I don't really remember having anyone, though. So I might have. Unless you want my pride to answer. In which case, I can give you a definite no."

Toshiro couldn't help but laugh at his mate's answer. "Hm, yes, I might have to say the same." He watched with a smile as both of their children came their way.
"Hi mom! Hi dad!" Jiyuu said cheerily, trotting up to the pair. He paused for a moment to shake the water out of his fur and wings. "The water is nice and cool!"
"Oh, is that so?" the stallion replied, glancing over both of his children in amusement. The look on his daughter's face was quite humorous. "Chione, didn't you like the water?"

"Daaaaad!" Chione skidded to a halt before her sire, her eyes wide. "Jiyuu poisoned me! How do I get it out?!" Her tiny chest heaved from the apparent exertion.
Kindle grinned softly, bending to lick one of Jii's ears playfully. "Tastes like salt. I don't guess you caught any interesting fish. Then again, is that true...?" She gestured lightly toward Chione.

"He 'poisoned' you?" Toshiro questioned, eyebrow quirked.
"I did noooot!" He replied, ears flicking lightly at the licking. "Besides, she gave me cooties!" His eyes widened pitifully at the remembrance. Ah, the petty fears of childhood.
He couldn't help but chuckle. "Alright, alright, settle down you two. You'll both be fine." He gave each of them a small nuzzle. "You two have been together since you've hatched. There's no reason you would start infecting each other now, yes?"

"I guess...." Chione glanced off mumbling, "But I never had his grody fur in my mouth."
"Well, I suppose we could get you a new brother. If this one doesn't suffice...."
"What?!" Chione skirted between her brother and mother, eyes wide in fear, wings spread to make herself look bigger. "No! He's mine!"
Kindle grinned that particular grin that oozed 'mom one, foals zero.' "Ah, then I suppose I'll have to leave Jiyuu right where he is. Unless you want a new sister, Jii?"

The colt had panicked for about half a second when his mother had first offered to replace him before realizing that she was kidding. When the same question was directed toward him, he looked his sister over for a moment, seeming to contemplate his choice. Finally, with a shrug he said, "Eh, I guess she'll do." Jiyuu gave his sister a grin, hoping she would realize he was just playing.
Toshiro smiled over at his ate and her little 'game' she was playing. The mare certainly had an effective way of settling things down. "Alright then, looks like we're keeping both of you."

Chione nipped at her brother's mane, her mouth twisting into a grin. "So you're saying next time I should go ahead and take the 'consolation brother,' huh?" She'd recognized the joke, but this was too good to pass up. And he hadn't been able to resist the jab, either.
Kindle smiled with another light shake of her head. The pair were certainly something else. Close, but she had a feeling neither would readily admit it. Ah well, perhaps when they were older...

 Dreamscapes floated by, like eddies on a river, swirling and coalescing for a moment, only to fade back into the darkness. The three beat staccato of a canter played through her head like a familiar melody, then broke apart into... into something else. Slower. Roaring, but subdued and familiar, and a two beat counterpoint.
Salt encrusted eyes cracked open, and the filly groaned. The sea... the pounding matched the ache in her head and bones. The two beat thumping she finally identified as her own heart.
Well, I'm not dead... I think. What... happened?
Her memory was a blur. Darkness... cold, fear, rain... a storm. A storm... and then? Embri tried to shake her head, then wished she hadn't. The world swam in front of her eyes, tipping dizzily. With a groan, she tried to rise, and found her body pinned quite firmly beneath fallen branches. The filly thrashed with her one free foreleg futilely, a frightened and pained whinny escaping her lips.

Chione's ears flattened. Something had changed, though she couldn't understand what, something pecking at the edges of her consciousness. Scanning the trees, she frowned, then shook her head. It was hopeless. Probably just water in her ears or- or something. Still, it was almost like a little voice, almost lost in the din of the waves. Glancing at Jiyuu, she debated. "Hey, let's go see-..." Cut short, she flattened herself instinctively, scanning for the source of the sound.
Kindle was already moving, putting herself between the source of the sound and the foals. She nudged Chione, and then Jiyuu. "To the nest, both of you." Her eyes turned up to her mate. "Toshi?" They needed to look. She needed to look. Whoever it was, they were hurt, might be under attack. But she couldn't leave their brood. Torn, she glanced toward the forest, her eyes betraying a fear that the trees themselves might uproot themselves. Like it was a foreign and hostile thing.
It cemented her resolve. Standing firm, she beckoned him toward the source of the sound.

Jiyuu glanced at both of his parents, hesitant to return to the nest. He wanted to go with them to see what was there, but at the same time it could be dangerous. Although it didn't sound dangerous... Still, it was probably best for them to follow their parent's directions. Somewhat. "Let's go, sis," he replied, heading off in the direction of their nest to appease their parents. What they didn't know was that he didn't plan to go all the way back.
Toshiro didn't much like the idea of leaving the children alone, but it seemed Kindle was determined to go with him in investigating the matter. He watched his children walk off for a second before turning to his mate with a nod. "I'm with you."
Together the couple walked cautiously toward the source of the sound, on the lookout for any danger all the while. Once they came across the trapped filly, the stallion's heart broke just a bit. "Hang on, there," he said gently, carefully using his horn to lift the heavy branches off of her. "Could you lend me a horn, dear?"

More sounds... the pounding in her head intensified, at the same time, she tried to sort them out. Friend, or foe? Two big blurry shapes swam into her field of vision, and the filly instinctively flattens her ears, lips curling back to bare her teeth.
What does it matter, not like I can run...
Nostrils flaring, she lets out another pained squeal and thrashes at the entangling branches, sides heaving. All manner of new discomforts made themselves known; the scratches from the tree she had crashed through, bumps and bruises to the more worrisome sharp stabbing in her side.
No use. Stuck... so tired...
Giving up with a wheezy sigh, the filly mantles her free wing over her head, broken feather bits blowing away in the sea breeze. Eyes closed, she resigns herself to whatever may come next.
