If his grin could've split his face, it would've. Sovann was at once completely at ease, perfectly content to be in the thick of things once again. "I sure as shells was! My friend Okassis and I lost, alas, but to be fair we were trying out a new recipe. It's too bad that you missed it. It was definitely worth going to. Maybe we'll have another one later on. I doubt it, though. Candidatemaster Z'nal was death on us for it. Tell you what, though, I think he got a kick out of it!" He finished his klah off, and nudged at Rayale again. "Here, I'll give you a chance to eat your food, and then we can put those words to the test, hmm?" He definitely wanted to see how good his new friend was. "I wouldn't worry about it too much, y'know. Even if you Impress, I'm pretty sure your dragon'd love to go down to the Ocean. They like the water. You've seen how they play and cavort in the lake, I'm sure."

"As strange as my luck has been, I'd probably get the only dragon on Pern who hated to swim." He joked, laughing, and glanced embarassed to the roll he'd forgotten about, and took a huge bite as though to make up for lost time, muttering something that might have been an appology around it. He swallowed and then continued. "I'd like to try it some time. The Klah I mean."

Sovann let out a bark of laughter. "Oh not that recipe you wouldn't. What you've got right now might well be the normal stuff that I brew. I can't be sure. Trust me, you don't want to try what we made at the Klah-Off. It really wasn't the best combination." Not that he planned on telling Rayale exactly what had gone into making that klah, but just on principle he felt wrong about allowing a fellow seaman to drink something that he didn't himself feel worthy of consumption. "Not to worry, not to worry. Really, I chattered your ears off. I'm surprised you're even still here with how much I've been talking. When would you have had time to eat, hmm?" He leaned back against the counter, his hands braced on either side of him, the grin firmly in place. "Well now, that would be a shame... but your 'lizards would still like the water, aye?"

"Oh? It was that interesting, huh?" He asked, laughing, and took a smaller bite. "I don't mind at all. It's nice to sit around and talk a little. "They love it, you should see them at the lake. At least they haven't tried to chase a girl flit yet, I think they'd fight. Do you have a flit?" He asked, wondering if he knew what it was like.

"Alas, I am flittless. My friend Inaari has a flitt, though. A little green flitt, as it happens." Sovann tapped his fingers on the counter top, a slight grin lingering around the corners of his lips. "Oh they'd fight, do you think? Do male dragons fight when they chase a Queen or a green?" Not that he knew, of course, but he'd never heard of bronzes fighting with each other over a female. Hmmm. Maybe browns and blues did? "I'd like to see it, actually. I've had some firelizard sightings, but usually they weren't sporting in the surf. Maybe you could show me sometime?"

"Actually I'll admit, I haven't any idea. I didn't know many people with Flit's in my hold, and neither Rikk or Sky have ever flown yet. Probably just as well." he admitted. "I'd be happy to show you some time. I gotta tell you though, if you own any small necklaces or bracelets you'll want to keep them shut up when you're not wearing them. Rikk is an real thief, which is unfortunately my fault. He was supposed to get my thigns back for me when my brothers put them in places I couldn't reach, but, well. He's gotten pretty creative about how he handles it."

"No, no necklaces or bracelets. I should be fine." Sovann was not the kind of lad who wore or even owned such things. "Oh is he now? Clever lad." The grin still firmly in place, Sovann tapped on the edge of the counter. "I knew some folk with firelizards back at home, nothing special... just greens, blues, and the odd brown. And they weren't nearly that clever, not by half." No, he'd never heard of a firelizard thief before, but it seemed workable enough. It got the seaholder to wondering. Could he possibly wrangle himself one such beast, and train it to do exactly that?

"Well with Rikk it's hard to tell if he wouldn't have done it anyway." Rayale admitted. "But whatever the case I kinda probably made it worse by trying to get him to do it." He shrugged faintly. "Fortunately Skyborn hasn't really done anything like that, or at least I haven't caught him at it. He doesn't exactly discourage Rikk from it either." He noted with a wry look.

"Would a firelizard discourage another firelizard from being mischievous? Well. Maybe a queen might, but I would think a blue would just go along with it." Not that Sovann knew a fardling thing about flitts, but he didn't figure that his guesses were far off the mark. "They are charming creatures, though, really. And a thief could be dead useful. If they can steal, they can carry messages, can't they?" Maybe. The little things could fly between like their larger cousins. He'd heard of folk using their firelizards as messengers before. Grinning, Sovann nudged Rayale a bit. "See, now you're making me think that you're just stalling."

Stalling? Oh damn, had he forgotten something Sovann had asked? Rayale turned slightly red again, looking flustered. "I don't know, when I got Rikk I was just desperate for an idea after I nearly pulled some shelving down...." He cleared his throat in embarrassment. "I'm too heavy..." Then added thoughtfully. "I dunno. I'd think maybe a gold could, maybe a bronze, but Rikk can't even figure out what's mine and what isn't. He tried to steal Skyborn's egg at the gather, thats where I bought it." He sighed heavily in exasperation at his Flit's antics. "AND he was showing off for the little gold dragon." He added, miserably. "I think he has delusions of grandeur. I mean if he actually catches a female I'll be happy to give you an egg, but it would probably be a blue or a green if he did."

Sovann choked, more than a little surprised by the offer. "... A firelizard egg? Really?" Wow. That... was far more than he had expected from a new friend. "Are you serious?" He nudged Rayale slightly when the young man got down on himself again. "Hey, you're not too heavy. At least you're not like me with a wiry frame. I could do with some more bulk, y'know?" Showing off for a little gold dragon, huh? "I think I like your firelizard. He's cheekier than they usually come." Definitely. "Are you still hungry, or are we going to have ourselves a contest?" Oh, so maybe he was a little impatient, but he was excited. How many times had he actually gotten to do something useful with his knowledge of fishercraft things, hmm? Okay, maybe not useful, but definitely fun.

Oh that! He'd almost forgotten, since they'd gotten talking, and laughed again, scratching his head. "I'm short and square, I'd rather be more wiry like you. My brothers picked on me about it all the time." He explained. "But yeah to both counts." He grinned somewhat lopsidedly. "If you don't find a better offer first." He glanced at the remaining portion of the roll, then ate it in several impressively large bites, dusting off his hands from crumbs in a businesslike fashion. "Mmph-mm..." A swallow and then. "Lets find some rope, Mast-pole." He joked, winking, referencing Sovann's taller thin build.

Grinning like a fool, Sovann clapped Rayale on the shoulder. "Heh, I'm not going to get a better offer! That's the first I've had, truth be told. Probably the last, too." He did appreciate it, though he was unlikely to hold the fisherman to it. After all, Rayale might change his mind if Rikk did catch a female. But oh, to have a firelizard! "Ha! Mast-pole! I like it." Not that Sovann was the sort of lad to take such nicknames poorly. "I hope you know where to find the rope, because I sure as shells don't." Maybe in stores, or something? He'd never bothered looking for that kind of thing, of course. When would he have the chance to?

Damn, finding rope, that was going to be the catch wasn't it? Rayale made another thoughtful face, rubbing his chin as he did so. "Uh, No I don't. I'm sure they MUST have some though...somewhere. I mean they can't just use sheets." And they couldn't just start dissembling hammock's either. Hmm. Quite a puzzle. Must be in stores? I mean surely someone here used rope? They couldn't just wait for traders and crafters from Ista Hold could they?

Unaware that they were thinking along similar lines, Sovann spoke Rayale's (and his) thought aloud. "Maybe there's some rope in stores." It would be difficult to find it otherwise, he thought. It was not as though they were at home where all it took to find rope was asking. ... Or, quite possibly, tripping over it! He'd done so a time or two, and he had the marks to prove it. "Huh, let's check there, shall we?" He glanced over, checking to see if the cook was paying attention, and when he had determined that he wasn't being watched, he snagged Rayale's arm, and motioned toward the store room. "Shouldn't take too long, I'd think." He hoped.
