Ellandra looked over at the books Misha pointed out, and sighed. She'd expected as much. And why wasn't she surprised about that admission of willingness-to-prank? She shook her head a little, a slight smile twisting her lips beneath her blush,.

"M-misha....... these books aren't a good, um.... source of i-information for what - for what you w-were thinking. They're . . . kind of, w-well....." Her blush inflamed. Really, Misha had been reading these? She'd have to give him some of her books; if that was all he'd been reading the poor thing was literature-deprived!

"M-Misha. . . will you. . .. promise me you won't do that t-to me again?" She paused, then gave him a little bit of an allowance. "A-at least. . . . not without t-telling me?"

"... yes, those I've read, almost all! I try to read faster, but it's all a bit new to me, that's why I lag behind miss Longway and the boss so much." he mewled, grinning apologetically. "Is there anything wrong about that?"

".. and of course I won't. I'll just not do it again, because if I told you in advance it wouldn't work anymore, right?"
he looked at her, and twitched his nose all wibble wibble a bit. Eeek, the bunny is showing Mishmish! XD

In the hallway, Timka had pressed herself to the wall to listen. This made no sense at all, beside the revelation that her Essentic hadn't been a very good by at all. With a sigh, she had to conlude her last talking-to apparently hadn't been able to get through to the stupid thing. He had a job to do, and nothing beside, and certainly not go socialise!

Ellandra laughed softly at Misha's expression.

"I'll bring you some - some different books when I s-see you again," she said. "You need.... some - some different types of reading, I th-think." No, she knew he did, but who was she to criticize if that was the sort of thing he liked? It sounded more like that was all he'd ever been exposed to, though.

Hmm, curious. Her odd friend was a bit stranger than she had thought. Not that this bothered her in any manner, she was hardly your average person, behavior-wise. Being scared of your own shadow tended to mark you as a bit eccentric, after all.

"I - I suppose, in a w-way...... I should thank you, M-misha," Ellandra said, looking thoughtful. "After all, if - if you h-hadn't have tried to - to set me up on - on a b-blind date like that, then I - I never would have gathered the - the c-courage to come here. A-and I might never have seen you again." She tilted her head a bit and twirled her hair around her fingers nervously.

"And I - I realize now how t-terrible that would - would really have - have been."

Misha was the only person she'd ever spoken to relatively comfortably after her Papa had died, after all. She didn't count her editor as she was usually cowering away from him, especially lately after she had hit this horrible creativity slump that she couldn't seem to get rid of.

She hadn't even realized how much she'd missed just talking to someone, not until just a few minutes ago. Now she knew she could never go back to such a completely solitary existence.

"That'd be nice, all they ever read are those, I wonder what other stories are out there!" he nodded eagerly. "Maybe some where the prince isn't a human, that'd be so cool." Awww twinkly eyes, bypassing the fact he'd again slipped up.

"Ah... I... That'd have been very sad yes. Maybe I'd have come to... to see YOU sometime..." he looked at the floor, torn between feeling ashamed over admitting he'd considered breaking the promise he'd made to miss Longway and the fact the idea made him blush.

"I'm glad I at least helped you like this, then... Not the way I'd planned, but as long as it works, it's all good." Teehee.

Now Timka really had enough of listening to this crap. What in the WORLD did that Essentic think he was? Deciding she had every right to intrude upon his privacy, and showing it, she took a step aside, opened the door and walked in, looking like five days of thunderstorms.

"What was that you said? I thought I'd told you not to pursue her."
she growled lowly, and Misha jumped, blanched. Frig, busted.

Ellandra smiled at Misha's proposal, before yelping as the now-angry woman from before entered the room. At first she wanted to hide behind Misha or run away, but when she sensed that the woman wasn't angry at her, but Misha - who hadn't done anything that she knew of, her temper stirred yet again.

"M-ma'am, with all due respect, if I invite him to my home, would that still b-break whatever strange rules you h-have for Misha?"

She'd already guessed that something wasn't, well, "human" about Misha, and the way this woman was simply ordering the bunny-eared messenger about spoke volumes for his position in this place - or rather, the lack of it, it seemed.

Her eyes narrowed and she looked up at the older woman, face set firmly in a scowl.

"I don't understand much of what is going on here, and I certainly don't care - Misha has been kinder to me than anyone else has been since my father, and I rather like his company. So if anyone's doing some sort of "pursuing" here, it's me, not him."

Longway's eyes widened slightly, then she started squinting with rising irritation. Making liberous use of her height advantage -it payed not to be too short in society, even if she was outmatched by most males- she faced Elandra head-on.

"What restrictions I lay out for him are MY business entirely dear."
she said, barely help back from snapping. "He's not supposed to 'hang out' with anyone, he has a job to do and nothing else."

Glaring back equally angry with this blatant critique on her ways, she listened, and then smirked.

"You're saying an Essentic, a Services one no less, is 'your only friend' or something mushy like that? Oh girl, don't make yourself any illusions." Hah, how twee. The beauty and the beast, only the beast had never been human to begin with. the way she pronounced the word had been filled with mocking venom.

Misha was rooted to the spot, curled up a little -arms, ears, hands close to his chest, sagging through his knees a little and looking trapped. No, god no. This was horrible, don't talk to Timka like that! No, Timka, don't talk to Ella like that now, no! Again he felt that tightness in his chest, and this time, it was crushing.

Ellandra's lips tightened into a thin line as she saw how Misha was reacting. So that's what he was. It made sense now. . . but it made no difference. Finding all timidity gone as adrenaline from anger replaced it, she pursed her lips a little.

"He seems to be more human than you are, ma'am, if you can't see or don't care that you're hurting him," she said, quite simply. "And if you truly don't care, then I pity you." She shot Misha a timid smile and ignored the terrifyingly angry woman.

"I have to be going, now, Misha. It seems I'm not welcome here." Tears rose in her eyes at the thought of leaving him here, but. . . he obviously cared for this woman - his - his Owner, it seemed, and it wasn't like she could do anything, anyway. She brushed the tears away quickly, and sighed softly, moving towards the door.

"I'm . . . I'm s-sorry I g-got you in trouble," she added.

"It's okay..." a slightly teary, timid breath, and he remained huddled up, defensive. No... don't go, no, leave, I'll be fine, I'm so sorry...

"Young miss Sanders, I assure you you have no idea what you are talking about. Humans can make choices. This thingie here couldn't even decide not to become part rabbit, and he'll never be anything but a Messenger." Longway scoffed at her, almost laughing at her oh-so-valiant defending of her Essentic. Come on now... You can barely stand up for yourself, and he really doesn't need a hand. It's not like she treated him like a slave driver and she made sure he was healthy.

"The day an Essentic defies its Purpose without withering I'll gladly accept them as human, but before that they're just uncanny mimics to me dear. I'm not bothered by your difference in opinion."

Misha cringed a little at her words, believing them to be true. It was impossible. What human had no choice?

"I won't keep you out of the shop, but do yourself and him a favour and don't put any strange ideas into his head. He's confusd enough, silly thing."

Ellandra swallowed, her eyes sparkling with unshed tears.

"I could say something," she said slowly, hesitantly, lifting her gaze to stare at this woman - who she decided she very much didn't like. "In fact, I could say many things. But anything I say right now is only going to hurt Misha more than he a-already is. And I won't do that." She wouldn't, either. She cared too much. She barely knew Misha, but already her heart ached to see him so miserable.

"I w-will say this, though. Humans have never been as kind to me as Misha has. You should be proud of him for that, not angry. I won't disrupt your business hours further, ma'am."

She smiled at Misha then, a sad, tight smile, one filled with pain. "Good-bye, Misha." She stepped out of the staff room then, and went to exit the store, calling a rather stiff, "And good day to you, ma'am," over her shoulder as she went.

Neither Longway nor Misha had anyhing to add to that, neither stopped her.

Left in a dreadful silence, they waited for the young woman to close the outer door -always gave a hefty slam from the closing mechanism-, they avoided looking at each other for the longest time. Tonight would not be a comfortable evening, oh no.

When later Banning passed by, he couldn't but wonder how long they'd be awkward this time.

Silly youngsters.
