Chickenwire raised his shield just in time to stop Asami's blade from striking him, but Clang was off-balance from his swing and caught a shallow gash up the arm. Large tried to attack from in close, but his blade clashed harmlessly off Asami's as he leaped upward and he flipped away for another run.

Clang was visibly angry, and he slapped his sword against his shield before bashing it right against Asami's back, opening her up long enough for Chickenwire to lunge, swinging his shield out as he brought his axe down toward her chest.

Clang was a strong-willed man, certainly. With Asami's potent blood coursing through his system, though, his mind slowly began to twist. He staggered back for a moment in confusion. He'd bashed Asami with his shield, he could see her blood splattered on it... must have had a wound on her back, or maybe the edge cut her. But she'd just disappeared, like she'd never been there at all! And...

It's been said that Clang was never quite screwed together straight to begin with. The first thing Asami's blood succeeded in deconstructing was his ability to distinguish friend from foe. His eyes lit up and he grinned wide, suddenly laughing, and then he smacked his sword hard against his shield, inadvertently causing it to pick up a light spatter of Asami's blood.

Chickenwire barely noticed Clang in time to raise his shield and deflect his comrade's sword. "The hell are you doing!?" he shouted, awkwardly attempting to counter with his axe only to have it knocked from his hand. He pulled back to avoid another strike, then put his shoulder behind his shield and charged.

Clang leaped aside, his sword held down at his side as he raised his shield as well, grinning like a maniac. Large, coming up from behind, nearly caught the berserk hero off guard, but Clang threw his shield back suddenly. Dodging it left Large off-balance, and he barely turned a fatal gash into a shallow scratch as Clang lunged.

A pair of huge hands suddenly obscured Clang's vision as Large tumbled back, and then he felt a length of wire begin to tighten around his neck as Chickenwire snarled in his ear, "You drop th'damn sword, Clang... dun wanna kill ye..."

If Clang could have spoken, he would have pointed out that such hesitation was really a mistake in a situation like this, and he stabbed his sword into Chickenwire's thigh.

Chickenwire stumbled back, howling and releasing Clang from the garrotte just in time for Clang to leap aside and dodge Large's next charge. Already, the blood on Clang's sword was getting to the other men.

Within minutes they were consumed, and they joined the fray on the battlefield.

Asami slipped out of the shadows to see the damage. She had a smirk on her face. Untill she felt something. She felt that Melethia had woken up. Her smirk then changed to a frown. She was quite mad.

"NOO!!!!" She yelled. "HOW CAN SHE BE AWAKE! MY PLANS ARE GOING TO GO TO BE RUINED! DAMN YOU MELETHIA!"

Panic rapidly spread. Among the soldiers, few felt certain they knew who was who anymore. Friends fought corrupted friends, paranoid friends fought friends, corrupted friends fought paranoid friends, and so on.

In short, chaos reigned. Every man for himself!

A brief instant of order returned to the battle as a lone pegasus streaked straight into the line of battle, making soldiers dive for cover. Some were corrupted, and some were not, true; but the will to survive remained, corrupted or not. The quick pause helped in discerning friend from foe; those who remained uncorrupted tended to take longer in making combat decisions than those who didn't. Those who were TOO quick for comfort also suffered nasty burns via fire magic from a mage on the pegasus.

Meanwhile, citizens were being evacuated from the area. Ghis and his men made quick work, demanding the people inside flee to safety. There were some who preferred to hide out the chaos inside, and to Ghis, that was fine... "If they want t' stay an' burn, that's THEIR problem".

People started swarming for the front gates.

Ghis shook his head. This situation was turning horrible VERY rapidly. Something crazy was going on... everyone seemed to be literally losing their minds. It reminded him of a story--"Resident Evil", his father (may he rest in peace) called it--about a lone man fighting his way out of a doomed city full of Revenants.

No time for shuddering at what MIGHT be. Just got to save who you can.

As Rappahannock lay motionless, his blade clutched lightly, a few guards investigated closer. They had their weapons bared from the dangerousness of the suspect, and they weren't in the mood to dance with the devil. They advanced slowly, their grip tightening at points where they gulped, waiting for him to jump up at any second.

He was fully conscious, and had done this before, The wind was blowing his hair by just a little bit, and his scalp sensed them blocking the wind with their body mass. A soldier thought of a great idea: Why not poke him to test if he's alive or not? It he budged, surely he could just finished the poke and send the tip through his ribs and pin him on the ground! He gave a sign, and moved in front of everyone else, edging his lance further and further to Rappahannock's back. Inch by inch, the seconds went by with shaking and rattling from other soldiers as they tried to get a glimpse. Finally, the point made contact, and left a bead size hole in not just the clothing, but Rappahannock's back, too. Not a single movement. Relieved and sighing, the guard removed his lance, and stared at Rappahannock more, still armed and ready. He could be faking it, after all.

A single unit came tearing through the pack of guards, and all attention was turned to him. "Expect morphia." he whispered to the guy that poked him, while a kris was sticking out of his ankle. He spur up, and slashed the Achilles tendon in his other foot, while the lancer let out a cry of pain. Rappahannock twisted and writhed in between the men, doing the same to them, slicing their ankles up, making them immobilized. Ask soon as he was finished, he stopped the darkened soldier with a blade through the forehead, and making it a question mark so someone could say "This is quite a confusing way to die!" Rappahannock is not known to have a sense of humor, but one of his buddies does.

All the guards, wincing on the dirt about how badly their feet are killing them, are all fresh meat for this particular murderer. Dancing on the men, stabbing here and there, truly it was unfortunate for them. The wounds increased still, and he was only having fun; hurtin' every one. After about ten minutes, he was still doing this, even though they were all dead and gone. No one dared interrupt them. With the way he was moving, they probably couldn't touch him with a thirty nine and a half foot pole.

Steely Dan stood alone against the moonlit horde, backing away with his sword drawn. Even darkened, not one man was eager to rush the captain- he had earned the fear and respect he commanded. So they all hung back, each waiting for another to charge. At the back, they shifted like restless horses.

"That's right!" Captain Leek called, "Don't know what's going on here, but you'll all be paying for this in the morning! And don't you all expect Christmas bonuses this--" He spun and caught Asami's blade on his own, then turned it aside and swung upward, drawing a thin red line across her stomach.

"Not even close," he growled, leveling his blade at her face. Steely Dan wore heavy, full armor, befitting a General, but he moved like water and struck like lightning.

Asami was already furious with the fact that Melethia was now awake. She swiped her sword 5 times at the captain. Right now she didn't care if she killed or infected him.

The guard captain shifted his huge blade to parry the first blow, and his armor stopped the second. As the third came at him, he swung his sword out and forced Asami to jump back as he took up a defensive stance. "Hyaah, think that's all it's gonna take? C'mon, gimme yer best an' I'll take you down!" The ground shuddered as he leaned forward and began to dash toward the swordmaster, jaw set as he swung his sword out at neck level!

Tibarn was by then chasing close on the tail of the pegasus, forcing it to beat a hasty retreat. The Hawk King had little trouble avoiding the mage's attacks, though for the most part he simply flew straight through them, letting the flames harmlessly brush off his wings. He had not yet caught them only due to distraction as corruption continued to slowly overtake him. Guilt turned to rage.

Why did they make him do it!? Anyone could have done it, but no, leave it to Tibarn! He's a big guy, he's tough, we'll let him do the dirty work and then we'll cry about it and he can be the sick b*****d who killed her! Oh, they would pay, they would feel his wrath. He would show each and every one of them exactly what he-- what they forced him to do to her!

"Oooh! Nothing's working," the mage exclaimed, frustrated. The hawk just stayed where he was, not fazed in the slightest by the fires.

"Fine! Just... hang on," the knight shouted back as she pulled back on the reins, guiding the pegasus down among the buildings. She flew just over the tops of the buildings...

And shoved the mage, who fell only a yard or so before landing hard on a building rooftop, then rolling down the roof, falling onto the street dazed but alive.

The pegasus knight then tugged back on the reins, making her pegasus fly higher into the sky. Yeah, maybe it would lead to a sticky end--really, all the Hawk King had to do was gut a wing, and gravity would take care of the rest--but it was still better then flying down a street teeming full of people.

Once she felt she'd climbed to a sufficient height, she turned around, facing Tibarn.

Gulp.

Asami dropped her sword. She growled with her fangs clearly showing. She caught the sword.

"You're not a smart man are you?" She growled. She ripped off what was on his arm and dug her claw in the captain's arm. She was still bleeding a bit from when she had infected Tibarn.

He snarled as her claws sank into his arm, and he squeezed tight on his sword as he dug the blade into her leg. "Heard that said, aye... But 'm experienced," growled the forty year-old General, and he brought his other hand around, grabbed the hilt of his sword, and swung it into the backs of her knees, causing her to fall to the ground with deep wounds in her legs, but nothing the demonic entity couldn't quickly heal.

And her blood coursed in his veins...

The noble flags of FEF came down from above the gates several minutes later.

"Well," Asami was still a bit pissed off but she was satisfied in take the castle. "That's going to rattle them up a bit. With the Hawk King infected with my blood. They are going to have some trouble."

Tibarn flared his wings to brake in the air and flapped hard to hover staring at the pegasus knight. His beak opened up and a fierce screech hit the poor animal dead on so that every fight or flight synapse flipped immediately to flight. With a sudden buck and twist, the winged horse lurched into the sky to get away just as Tibarn launched himself up after her. Up and up they flew, up toward some of the lower clouds that occasionally passed in front of the moon.

Tibarn's beak snapped just on the horse's tail, and its eyes rolled into its head in fear as it strained every muscle in its body, kicking its legs frantically and beating hard to get away.

It was only chance that a huge flock of geese passed in front of them, which Tibarn collided with and disoriented himself badly. Many geese died that day, but their deaths were not in vain; by the time Tibarn righted himself, the pegasus had disappeared through a cloud. With a loud screech of anger, Tibarn whipped through the cloud a few times, then folded his wings and dropped like a lead weight back to the castle grounds, where he flared his wings and landed heavily before reverting to his laguz form.

By now, large swaths of Eyris were awake, people swarming for the front gates, grabbing whatever they could; rumors rapidly spread that the castle guard was launching some sort of coup, and fear followed rapidly on the heels of these rumors. Now anyone with any sanity and no corruption was fleeing the city, going in all possible directions.

That left Ghis and the Constabulary, most of whom were busy getting swept up in the crowd. In fact, if you weren't Ghis, you either ran with the crowd or got trampled. Ghis had a good deal of armor on, meaning he could swim through the tide of people. However, he wasn't interested in saving more people, so he let the tide carry him out the gates and into the night, where it became easier to find a nice field to the side of the road.

He couldn't be sure if anyone had been lost... it was really dark around him, and could barely see now that the torches of Eyris were a little ways behind him.

Still, he couldn't stay here. He had to find a safer hourse. Since after the time of the great blizzard, he'd told his group one thing if Eyris was ever lost: "Make for the manor o' th' hill." Hopefully, they'd all be there. He picked himself up and trudged onward, hoping to reach the manor before dawn.
