My parents like the fact I've found something I like that is even related to sports. (musical type usually). I'm in the army JROTC. But they like the fact it has to do with military, my mom does. Her dad and my great uncle as was was in the Air force. Still even have one of gramp's medals.

peacekitten65 KaidaInai My mom supports me. =) She knows that I'm planning on enlisting in the military, so she doesn't really care... OMG! Really?! My mom is scared outta her wits that I wanna be in the army! Ur so lucky. Yeah...But see my mom always told me that I should follow what my heart tells me to do. And I want to protect this country.

My parents LOVE that I am in ROTC. And they are also supportive about the fact that I'm enlisting after college too. 3nodding

My dad and step mom HATE it, but my mom was a former Navy Lieutenant, so she was VERY excited when I told her.

The only parents who would hate the program are the ones who have no idea what it's really all about.
What parent can hate character building? leadership building? what parents wouldn't want their sons and daughters to have more motivation and courage?
I'm just listing things that i learned in my years of JROTC! i never took charge of anything before the program, i had no backbone. NOW look at me! i'm one of the most rough and ready students to set foot on a college campus! The potential for greatness in JROTC is only limited to what you put into it. But even just the minimal effort can put you ahead more than half of your peers!
what parent wouldn't want that for their child?

I dunno. Seems like it's a good thing, although it could be construed as a militarized version of the Cub Scouts by those who hate to think that it might be it's own thing.

You'd be sadly mistaken seeing as militaries have been around since the earliest recordings of history and the fact that the first ROTC was founded in 1862 and the scouts in 1910. So if any similarities arise between the two, ROTC is the original.
And when you consider that JROTC is practically 100% free, is given special consideration for college application and military service, and centers more on character development. I'd go with JROTC over scouts any day.
Not to say you can't do both, nothing against the scouts personally but they just kinda learn how to tinker and what-not. Yeah sure they teach wilderness skills but i have yet to see a scout who can outdo my survival prowess in the North American forests! (i ain't no city slicker!)
i simply consider training for life to be a little more prominent than learning how to tinker.
So any parent who'd rather take scouts over JROTC is still nuts, (especially because one happens in school and the other is not) and that they probably hate ROTC and JROTC simply because of it's very loose military ties.
To those parents i ask 'Why are you living in this country?' and 'Who's protecting you right now?'
Being a peaceful hippy is nice and all but humans are violent creatures and when push comes to shove people are going to want some boom sticks. You can literally measure the peacefulness within a nation by the size of it's protection. And if they disagree with me i'd tell them to go to a third world country with a small military and see the difference. I'd also tell them i hope they come back alive...

My dad didn't care that I'm in Army JROTC... he was like 'Eh...it's your choice. Now tell me again why you didn't want P.E.?"
And this is coming from my dad who's my personal football trainer and cross country trainer. I kept telling him I would be hella tired after P.E. and I didnt' want to go STRAIGHT to practice after running 5 miles for P.E.
He understood what I meant since he was a varsity runningback and a varsity cross country runner. I wonder what my mom would say.... I still have to tell her. xD She's gonna have a heart attack.

Although JROTC isnt mostly about Physical fitness, their workout does tend to be more strenuous than normal high school P.E. of course there is nothing to stop you from working out on your own either.
JROTC doesn't interfere with most sports (at least they shouldn't... mine even planned around them just to prevent that.) So i'm sure you're welcome to do whatever you and your father believes you should. But first and foremost you are an American and are entitled to Free Choice. The liberty granted to you at around that age (high school) include driving, working, and even choosing elective such as JROTC.
And i can tell you as my JROTC's previous P.T. Captain, that the workout is more than enough. Gain enough rank and you might even be leading the workout like i was! And by then you're thinking more about the others than yourself. I've never been as fit in my life than my last year in JROTC, but i'm sure i mentioned before that you get what you put into it, and i gave it my all!
so i say, "GO FOR IT! HOO-RAH!" (wait... that's Marine-Corps... lol, be that lean-mean-fightin'-Marine anyway! xd )
