[[ No worries. ^^ ]]

Wake stepped backwards as the larger kyn, Lorne, snapped at him. He got a good look at those teeth as they closed around the air where his own head had once been. Pausing a moment and a moment too soon, he shook his head as Lorne lifted his tail into the air and lower his head closer to the ground. Well this was it. Bracing himself and digging his own claws into the earth beneath them, Wke launched himself forward looking to latch himself onto Lorne's neck. Jaws snapping, if he weren't caught up in Lorne's final attack as their spar was slowly coming toward its end.

Wake's lunge was perfect for Lorne, who suddenly swung his tail back and kicked off with his front legs, rising up on his hind legs slowly. As Wake leapt, he sailed under Lorne's neck, somewhere below the enormous dragon's chest as gravity did its work. Lorne brought his foreclaw straight down at Wake, roaring as he slammed into the ground regardless of whether he caught Wake under his talon. All said, being caught under the talon was probably better than being caught under his chest as it crashed into the ground.

Mouth agap, Wake collided wrong with the larger kyn. Thumping to the ground on his side, scrambling he rolled away as Lorne came crashing down. A talon did land a mark upon Wake's shoulder, drawing a line of beaded blood past the scale plating. First blood, he had lost hios first match. Rolling to his feet and shaking the dust from his scales and lapping at the 'scratch' he bowed his head to the far more experianced Lorne.

"Well played and good luck to your next match." Wake bowd his head again to move out of the middle of the clearing and off to the side. His shoulder flickering a little as he walked, small smears of blood marking the pale scales.

Wake wasn't upset about losing, he was out matched, still a young blood he didn't really expect to win so easily. Resting upon the grass, he lapped at the wound again knowing well that his keeper was going to be upset over the condition he returns in. But it would be en experiance that he wouldn't forget in a long while.

Lorne closed his eyes and exhaled heavily through his nose, letting hot smoke curl up from his nostrils. He turned and stepped back, lowering his head and offering Wake a deep bow. "Well played, young one. I feared you had taken first blood when you bit my tail." He smirked and stood upright, raising his head again to look at Randil, waiting for the next match to be announced.

Asani swallowed hard, a noticeable lump sliding down the length of his throat. He would have to fight...him? The stripe-flanked kyn struggled to keep himself from trembling as he walked, a little stiff-legged, towards the massive green and blue European. He silently cursed his cowardice, and how under normal circumstances he'd run, allowing his hide to make him to vanish among the trees. Why couldn't he handle situations like these as did the others of his flight? They never seemed to be frightened, not by anything. His head slowly lowered in an awkward bow. By his shell, his heart was racing, as often his prey's did during the hunt...

...And even his prey was braver than he, sometimes. Deer had turned on him before, bringing their antlers and hooves into play before the end. Even with that last defiance, they reeked of animal fear. It was bravado, a last-ditch attempt at survival, and on occasion it had worked. Perhaps something like that could help him here? Asani lifted his head stiffly from it's bow, forcing it up to a bold height and straightening his shoulders. His pale eyes craned up to meet those of the larger kyn. A cold knot still sat in his chest, but he would not cower like a rabbit cornered by a fox. Not if he could help it.

Lorne did his best to avoid shaking as he pushed himself fully up again. That body slam in the last round had taken a huge chunk out of Lorne's endurance, which was high as long as he didn't move around too much. His back legs burned from exhaustion and he sat back on his haunches for a moment, then dipped his head to bow in return. "Let us see, little one, if you fight as bravely as your friend," he murmured, pushing himself up onto all fours again and slowly circling his much smaller foe.

Asani didn't trust himself to say anything in return, instead turning as Lorne began to circle. The smaller European had to trot to keep pace against the long strides of the massive kyn, his head lowering watchfully. He didn't have the aid of magic in this battle- he had never bothered to learn- and now he regretted it. Perhaps it would have made him feel stronger against such a huge foe. The dark-scaled kyn inhaled slowly to try and smooth his tense nerves, the air hissing through his nostrils. The longer the waited, the less he was sure he would be able to hold onto this bravado. With a sound like a short coughing roar, his white jaws opened, releasing a gout of fire at the unscaled flesh of Lorne's wings.

Lorne crouched back as the jet of flame seared through the air, and snarled as the jet of flame left a smoking black mark on his wing-- he was too large to evade most attacks, but was unfortunately so large that most attacks tended to bounce off him the first few times. Already leaning back to brace himself, he swung his weight forward, and it was enough to throw his massive body forward into a lunge as he raised his right foreclaw and brought it straight down at Asani, lowering his head to snap his jaws at the smaller kyn when his claw impacted the ground.

Asani didn't think, or at least not in the true sense of thought; he simply reacted. Fear lent him speed as he crouched and dashed, not back, but instead forward under Lorne's lunge. He was forced to a sudden halt, though, squalling in surprise, as a huge foretalon pinned the brush of his tail to the ground. The darker kyn felt a series of sickening pops trail up his tail and spine to his shoulders as he jerked to a stop. With an incoherent snarl, like that of an animal caught in a trap, he writhed and yanked free, leaving a clump of black fur under Lorne's claws. The momentum sent him hurtling into the larger kyn's leg and past, skidding in the dirt as he struggled to regain his footing and to reorient himself.

Lorne growled as Asani escaped before he could take advantage to win the match, and he lowered his head to glare between his own legs at his disoriented foe. Lorne was not quick, especially when turning. He needed time to reach a gallop, and he certainly couldn't twist around quickly like his smaller cohorts.

I need this. The Elder is giant, but he moves so gracefully... as if his weight is nothing. The pain... I could overcome the pain, and... I would be free...

... I cannot lose!

He snarled, narrowing his eyes as he lunged forward, raising his head and twisting it around to look over his back while he swept his tail powerfully along the ground in an attempt to strike Asani. He lifted his tail a bit on the follow-through and whipped it around all the way-- a direct strike could throw Asani through the air and put him back in front of the gigantic Kyn.

He reared and started to turn, but was to slow: an undignified squawk escaped the smaller kyn as Lorne's tail caught him. Rather than allowing his foe to shove him back into striking range of those huge jaws and powerful foretalons, Asani clung for all he was worth. He dug his own claws into the spaces between Lorne's scales, clinging to their edges like a rock climber to hand- and footholds, even hooking his own neck and tail around the larger kyn's. There was no way he'd be able to bite or claw through such thick armor: his jaws weren't wide enough, nor his claws that strong. One of his foreclaws slipped from its hold. Asani tried to force it back into place against the swinging of Lorne's tail, but found it skidding instead as it searched for purchase.

Lorne growled and began to swing his tail more powerfully, intent on dislodging his foe, but... he paused, slowing his tail down, watching his opponent scrabbling for life's sake, and then slowly set his tail down, turning to face Asani. He lowered his head close to the smaller dragon, then shook it as he stepped back. "I hope I have not hurt you." All the fire had gone out of him; in his mind's eye, he had seen Asani launched through the air, striking a tree, or a rock, or even just the ground. He had seen broken wings, a mangled underbelly, an inexperienced, outmatched foe who did not deserve this.

It's not worth it.

He sat back on his haunches, watching Asani for a moment, then raised his head to look at Randil. "I cannot continue this fight," he murmured. "Not if it means harming this young one." He looked askance at the black kyn, awaiting confirmation that he would accept Lorne's resignation, and then slowly backed away.

[He's such a softie, there's no way I could play him that would let him continue fighting Asani like that. D:]

For a few long seconds Asani didn't move, didn't think, until reason began to return and he realized that it was over. He flinched, just a little, out of reflex as Lorne's head came around. The memory of those teeth and the fire in those eyes were yet a shadow at the back of his mind. Slowly the dark kyn loosened his death grip on the larger European's tail, his legs trembling from adrenaline and exertion on the steady ground. He panted, unsure of what had just happened. Certainly not a win, not quite a loss... The battle was over, and somehow he was alive and unbroken, save for a spine that would surely rage at him later and a tailbrush short a double handful or so of fur. He had surely been outmatched, and in the aftermath of such mindless fear he sensed a peculiar lack of agitation, so different from his normal state when others of his kind were about. Perhaps he was just drained. Blinking and still a little unsteady, the lonely kyn of Crater Lake managed a low bow to his opponent, the tip of his nose almost touching the ground. He knew the words, sure enough, but even so he didn't truly know how to say 'thank you.' He took a few steps back as well, his head rising slowly: perhaps he didn't have the urge to flee into the woods at the moment, but a distance from the others still gave him some comfort.

((I think I like Lorne better that way, anyhow. If a warrior doesn't know when to stop fighting, well... Heh. I'd better stop before I go into fortune-cookie mode. That concludes this battle, I guess.))

Wake watched the Lorne had taken the honorable fall, not wanting to hurt the other kyn. The cut on his shoulder had stopped bleeding by now and he shifted himself some to clamber to his own feet. When the two seperated, Wake moved toward Asani, they were the last of the three matches and Wak didn't want to lose this. He had lost the first one and he wasn't about to lose again. But Wake had to wonder what would happen if all three happened to win one of their matches. Shaking his head, he cleared his mind to focus. One last go round, then it would be over and for the most part, he could return to his den if he failed...

Asani's unusual calm persisted at Wake's approach, only a slight raising of his hackle-scales and a shuffling of his dark wings testament to his more accustomed nature. When had his mind last been this clear? Perhaps this was how Batus, his bald-headed and beaked nestmate, felt with his constant peace-seeking. Or perhaps not. He watched his opponent intently. Last time, he had made the first move... This time, perhaps being less hasty would serve him better. The stripe-legged kyn prepared himself, his tail raising as a counterbalance (his brush still twinged where he had torn out fur) as he lowered his head, watching from under his brow-ridges.
