If you think about it, homosexual feelings have ALWAYS been around, though today we see more of it where as before they tried to hide it. Japan and its people just seem more open with those feelings. Alot of the animes and games and such from Japan are usually edited to HIDE those implications when it arrives here in America. Just like with Kingdom Hearts, in the Final Mix game thats only in Japan, there are scenes that were actually deleted from the American version with Riku and Sora. I have seen a few but I can't understand them well...Its hard getting through the game in Japanese. But it shows more of Riku's feelings for Sora. (why delete these scenes? O_o It explains so much!)

kupo-tenshi Well, I was browsing around trying to figure out what Kairi's name actually meant when I came across this. I forget the site I got it from though. ^^;
"Sora, Riku, and Kairi are named after the three primary elements of nature. In Japanese, riku means 'land', kai means 'ocean', and sora means 'sky'. the name Kairi could originate from the Japanese word "hikari", which means light, because she is the only untainted main character."
I don't know if this holds any truth but it seems logical. I'm not sure about the untainted part though. She is a princess of heart and does save Sora when he was a heartless, but Kairi doesn't strike me as completely innocent.
If Kairi's name partly means the ocean I can see the seperation. Riku is the land, Sora is the sky, and Kairi, the ocean, seperates these two. In the game you always see Riku looking off into the horizon. Or perhaps he's looking out towards the sea?Stion That's exactly what Kairi did. She tore Sora and Riku's attention away from each other (or something..I dunno) and made them focus on wanting to go to other worlds.
Riku was always enthusiastic about leaving after that but Sora, in my opinion, was indifferent about the idea. In the beginning I got the feeling that Sora and Kairi thought this was another adventure where, in the end, they would return home again. When the door opened and when Sora finally realizes how determined Riku is to leave the islands he seemed shocked and confused to me. Think back to the part where Sora meets Riku for the last time on the islands.
Maybe one of the reasons Riku wanted to leave so bad was because of the islands themselves. They were small and surrounded by miles of ocean. Kairi=ocean. Therefore Riku hates Kairi. xDD My twisted logic.Stion So, basically, she's where ground meets sky. So maybe it could even go into something like Riku and Sora are forbidden to be together and they need to have Kairi in between them for a challenge in the story line, or the main bump in the road to get over.
I hope I made the least bit of sense. :'D now we have to worry about Namine gonk she even SAID she'd see Sora again and all that crap.

Actually, I don't think Namine will be that much of a threat. My bet's on her ending up with BHK... Unless it turns out that BHK falls in love with Sora... And then we'll have a whole new problem. eek
Those clips they edited out - where did you see them? I might be able to translate them to some extent... (pms this to you in case you never look at thread again).

Yeah, I don't see Namine as too much of a threat, either. I just cannot imagine her and Sora together at all.
Lol, but I remember before CoM came out, I nearly flipped out when it was revealed that Riku was supposedly protecting Namine.
(Of course we know now that it was the Riku Replica, and not Riku himself, but at the time, the idea of Riku wanting to protect some new female character was really, really scary... gonk )

It's probably a good thing Namine didn't tell him why Sora was in the memory-fixer-thingi... It's quite possible that she would have been dead within seconds. Or at least had her ears destroyed through "YOU WHAT!?!?!?!" being screamed from 3 inches away...

Haha, yeah, that was probably a smart move on her part. Riku probably would have, like, shook her roughly by the shoulders and yelled, "You b***h, what the hell did you do to him?!" XD;;
