At the sight of the tree, Kiriwar's eyes widened and he stared for a long moment, blinking slowly. He let Jessan take the basket, stepping forward to begin inspecting the tree, running his hands over the trunk and looking up at it with a broad smile. "It's gorgeous. And I'd like to keep exploring, after we eat." He glanced back at Jessan, smiling brightly now.

Jessan settled down and started pulling out his picnic foods. With bread, thick slices of cold meats, and cheese he quickly made a sandwich for Kiriwar. Making once for himself, he moved over and watched his companion inspecting the tree. It was huge, its branches spreading out over some distance and the trunk had to be at least three people wide.
"Sit and eat. Then we can check it out. It has to have been here as long as Ista. Maybe. I've never seen a tree so big."
Idly, he watched a mother trundlebug walking along with several babies on it's back. He learned his lesson and scooted out of its way. He did not want to get its stink on him.

Kiriwar hummed happily as he placed his hands on the trees, before looking back at Jessan when the other smoke to him. "Ah, thank you... This is my first time actually out of the Weyr this far, so this is fascinating..." he said, moving over to the other and sitting down with him.
He blinked in surprise at that trundlebug, watching it curiously but keeping his distance from the creature. "So, Jessan... How long have you been here? And what did you do before coming to the Weyr? You said you were a former herder, right?"

"I don't think I have ever seen this part of Ista. Mainly, my family and I stuck to the main roads which is all grasslands and holdings. Though there are a couple of seaside holds and farms with fruit that we saw." Jessan was looking all around him, trying to take in the tropical sight. Vines, huge flowering blossoms, and fruits of all colors surrounded them.
"How long have I been here? I came before the first Hatching, though not with too much time to spare. And aye, I was a herder and if I don't Impress, I don't mind going back to herding. I enjoy working with the beasts and being outdoors." He munched his food happily. What a nice treat just to sit back and relax. Jessan was certainly enjoying the company Kiriwar was providing and he decided that needed to start talking to more of the Candidates. There was such a selection from him to pick from. "What about you? What did you do before becoming a Candidate?"
