A housekeeper, hunh? Sounded more like the houseMASTER. She didn't sound like a very pleasant woman, and even Xiu's smile and expression had a strange quality to them. Riv was rather good at reading people, and Xiu was hiding something. Did this Mrs Bediever not like him? And the fact that they learned to live with each other clearly implied that at some point in the past they had not been very happy with this arrangement... Riv frowned but said nothing. Xiu was intent on keeping it hidden, and it was not Riv's job to ensure that Xiu got along with all the neighbors; only his guardian had been an issue Rivener felt he had to check.
Thankfully the topic changed when they left the back rooms, returning to the bookstore side of the edifice. Xiu was quick to amend his declaration of this being a "boring life", apparently afraid that Rivener would start to worry or something. "I'm sure it would be nice, to have so many books around. My brother, for one, would go crazy in your Shakespeare section, I'm sure. Or Poe. He's kind of a antique-book nut." The Scorpion shrugged a shoulder, smirking. Eiry would be more likely to tip all these shelves over or re-arrange all the books according to a pattern that only his twisted little mischievous mind could comprehend, giggling all the while. It was BEST that Eiry wasn't raised here, no, but it seemed to fit Xiu's temperament to a T.
"I was browsing, yes... I saw a book on constellations so I began looking if there were maybe some books on nebulas or even just an album of astronomical pictures. I already know most everything about constellations, I go to the planetarium often. ...Have you ever been there? It's really interesting. Then again, I might be biased because I feed on stars, hah." Riv grinned, showing fangs for an instant before turning his attention to the books with a smile. "What interests YOU the most, Xiu?"

“Does Rivener mean a human brother?” asked Xiu curiously. He had never heard of two raevans being related before and had always seen a single raevan to a single guardian. The thought of Rivener having a brother made Xiu feel a tad envious of the Sigel. Even if the term ‘brother’ was used loosely, it implied that whoever that person was, he was dear to the scorpion raevan. “It must be fun, and I would love to meet him sometime,”
Which was true. Xiu wanted to see what this ‘brother’ was like. Hazeline and Joshua were related by blood and were therefore brother and sister but what about this ‘brother’ of Rivener?
“And no, I’ve never been to the planetarium,” said Xiu in response to the other’s question as he led Rivener to the astrology section. “ And I never would have thought that you feed on stars Rivener. How do you do it? I mean…stars are…rather far away aren’t they?” asked Xiu with a slight tilt of his head. It was interesting to know how other raevans feed and their abilities.
“Hmmm…what interests me most?” said Xiu quietly as he fingered the spine of a particularly thick book on astronomy and the universe. “Well…I guess my favorite for now would be legends and folktales; there’s a lot to be learned from there. The cultures, beliefs; even what makes their society run,” said Xiu as he justified his choice of reading material. “However, it is truly too soon to say. I have not really read all that many books yet and some of them contain words that I am unfamiliar with,”

Rivener chuckled as Xiu misunderstood the term "brother". Although really, Xiu's assumption was well-founded. Raevans usually didn't consider other Raevans to be closer siblings than most, but... Hm, Rivener had a brother AND a sister, didn't he? He supposed he should count himself lucky. "No, my brother isn't human, he's a Raevan like us. My guardian has a brother, see, and HE has a Raevan too. When that Raevan, Eiry, was born, he kinda took to me like a brother too, so we've been brothers ever since. I got to see him grow and help raise him a bit, I think. He can be a pain, but I love him anyway." Riv smiled. "I'm sure you can meet him sometime! He wanders the park a lot. Maybe you'll bump into him someday! He'd be easy to recognize, he's all minty green and has fire-like wings."
As they neared the astrology section, Xiu turned his attention to the manner of Riv's feeding, before continuing on to discuss what he likes to read. Riv found it all fascinating; Xiu was rather young, but he spoke very well, seemed calm and mature... It wasn't like talking to most newborns at all.
"I feed on their light, not the actual stars themselves... Like, their presence. I can just stand outside at night and as long as I can see the sky clearly enough in places, I can feed. It tastes delicious, by the way. What do YOU feed on? And, what unfamiliar words?" Riv jumped topics as he pulled out the thick tome Xiu had been considering, flipping open the pages and looking at the chapter titles, the pictures... "Legends and folktales, hunh? I never really read many of those. Sounds interesting though."

“I’ll be sure to keep a lookout for Eiry then,” promised Xiu as he watched Rivener leaf through the book. The book had many pictures and diagrams of stars, galaxies as well as equipments and theories written in them. Definitely not a light reading material by anyone’s standard. Xiu was silent for a moment, content in allowing the other to browse through the contents of the book before picking where the conversation was left off.
“I feed on innocence,” said Xiu simply. “It tastes different from each individual and depending on different individuals; some are easier to digest than others.”
“But I’ve only fed off humans so far,” said Xiu as he gave a casual glance about to make sure that they wouldn’t be overheard by a passing customer. It would not do to scare them away from the store. “I guess it is possible to feed off animals and…raevans; if needs be but I don’t know…I never had the occasion to try it,” said Xiu with a shrug. “There’s more than enough humans about,”
“But umm…in regards to unfamiliar words, I guess that usually occurs in those books,” said Xiu motioning to the shelf containing books on computer programming and script writing “…and those.” This time the frei’s hand shifted to a shelf containing books related to DNA and molecular work. “There’s a lot of things I do not understand in them so…I am avoiding them at the moment,” said Xiu as he let out a soft laugh. “I fall asleep reading them. Hazeline says that’s because they are dry but she reads them all the same because it is required for her work,”

Rivener glanced up as Xiu explained his feeding habits. "Innocence, huh? Well yeah, you could feed on just about anyone. Thankfully I'm not so innocent." Riv smirked. "I've tasted a Raevan before, actually. It was... delicious." The Scorpion grinned in a very malicious manner for a second before turning his regular smile back to Xiu, looking at the books he was pointing to in regards to the complicated words.
"Wow. NO ONE would understand all of THOSE," he chuckled, mostly pointing to the DNA ones. "Computers I know a little bit about, but I couldn't program anything." He shrugged, closing the large book he'd been reading.
"Is this one okay for me to take? It's really big, it's not too expensive for a gift?"

“Truly?” asked Xiu in surprise. “But I thought you told me that stars were your staple. Which raevan was it, Rivener?”
At Rivener’s grin, Xiu couldn’t help but wonder how did this particular Sigel obtain his meal. Did he just absorb the stars from that raevan like how Xiu absorbed innocence? Or…was a little physical help required?
At Rivener’s statement about him not being so innocent, a trace of a smirk could be seen on Xiu’s features. “I wouldn’t say that Rivener. There is innocence about you but one does not go about eating one’s guest right? It would not be…proper,”
“But as to the book,” said Xiu with a smile “It is yours to take. If Hazeline wanted to put a price on her gift, she would have said so. Would you like me to wrap that up or something Rivener?”
“Tea’s ready and I’ve actually managed to scrounge up some snacks,” came Hazeline’s voice from above. “Are you boys done yet?”

"That Raevan must have been made with stars, somehow. He-... she-... was very tasty. Prajna, it was. A VERY interesting person." The Sigel snickered, still thoroughly amused by the Inverted Flame. It felt rather odd to be talking about this kind of thing to another Raevan however, so Rivener was glad the topic changed again. He laughed.
"Me, innocent? I highly doubt that. But if you say so, then I'm glad you're not eating me up. And yes, I'd like this one, thank you, but I don't need it wrapped. I'll be carrying it home, and I will make sure not to forget it on park benches," he added with a smirk, a small playful jab.
Hazeline's voice rang out then, and Rivener glanced over at the door it came from. "I do think we're done, Xiu. Shall we go, then?" Smiling, the Scorpion waited for his host to once again lead the way.

Xiu laughed as he was jabbed by the other raevan and shook his head. “That was carelessness on my part, I do not plan to repeat such a mistake again,” said Xiu smiling. Rivener was nice; a little intimidating but a nice raevan overall thought the the white frei remembering the Sigel’s flared wings during their encounter in the park and when he had confronted Hazeline.
“Here, let me just get you a new copy, that’s just the display version,” said Xiu taking the book away from the Sigel and floating over to the back office. Minutes later the white frei returned with a newer book in his hands. “Here you go Rivener and yeah, we probably shouldn’t keep Hazeline waiting too long,” said Xiu with a smile. ((Rivener has obtained BOOK! ))

Rivener only had to wait a small moment for Xiu to return with a brand new copy of the book, with a much glossier-seeming cover and fresh, crisp pages. The Scorpion grinned and took the proffered tome, bowing his head slightly. "Thank you very much, Xiu. And remind me to thank your guardian also, for this gift."
Riv tucked the book under his arm for now, following Xiu back up to the room they'd left earlier. There was a distinct smell of tea in the air now, and a plate of snacks on the small table. Rivener smiled and floated over to a seat, deciding he'd best say thank you now before he forgot. "Hazeline, I chose a book; thank you for the present. It looks like an expensive book though..."

Xiu nodded as the Sigel thanked him. It was an odd feeling though as Rivener was older and probably wiser than Xiu. The white frei shifted his wings in an amused manner before leading the way up to the living room above the bookstore once more and waited until both his guardian and Rivener had sat down before taking a seat himself.
Hazeline poured some tea into two cups before looking up to Rivener and smiled. “How many lumps of sugar would you like Rivener? And I am glad that you have chosen a book. Books are wonderful things to give and to receive. You shouldn’t let the price bother you. What’s the book about though?” asked Hazeline, curious to know what the Sigel read. Rivener did not actually look like the bookish type but Hazeline guessed that looks could be deceiving.
Xiu was silent as he observed the small talk between Hazeline and Rivener. The tea and biscuits were probably nice but the frei had no interest in them. Flicking his wings a little, Xiu allowed his thoughts to wander and wondered what Rivener’s guardian looked like. And Prajna. Rivener had met that raevan but Xiu had missed the opportunity to talk about it as Rivener has decided to jab him at that moment. Xiu frowned. Rivener has said that Prajna was an interesting raevan but as far as Xiu was concerned, Prajna was just…a spoilt child. Perhaps the Prajna Rivener had met had improved itself? That too was something to think about…

Rivener smiled at the dainty tea cups. All they had at his house were the more bulky-looking coffee cups. It would be weird to drink out of something so fragile-looking. "Ah, no sugar, just a little milk or cream or whatever you've got. I don't particularly like sugary things." He waited until the tea was pushed over in front of him before picking it up as delicately as possible, striking a strange image with his sharp claws gripping at the small ear of a teacup. He took a sip, swirling the liquid around to properly taste it before swallowing. Red eyes turned up in thought.
After a second the Scorpion was ready to render his verdict. He smiled lightly and nodded to himself. "I like tea," he decided. "The book I picked is this," he said, putting down the tea and presenting the tome, grinning at the lovely star-field picture across the cover. "Maybe I'm biased because it's my food, but I've always been fascinated with space and stars and all that." He grinned as he tucked the book away beside him on the sofa, picking up the tea again. "Thanks again. I feel bad for eating and drinking and just making you sit here, Xiu. You should at least talk! Do you like the smell of tea, even if you can't drink it?" It was a rather faint attempt at conversation, but Riv didn't want the white frei to be left out.

“I’m glad that you do,” said Hazeline with a smile. “I find coffee a little too strong for me at this time of the day but oh, how interesting Rivener! You eat space and stars? Or is it…the galaxy?” asked Hazeline with polite interest. It was always fascinating to find out what the raevans actually ate. “Xiu eats innocence but…I have yet to see him show any interest in it; aside from it being a food source,”
“That’s…no-oh well, yeah,” agreed Xiu with a soft laugh. “I never really thought about it, not until this moment at least. I mean…most people wouldn’t think twice about the chicken they had would they?”
“And by all means, Rivener, do not let me spoil your appetite merely because I can’t eat human food,” said Xiu sitting up a little straighter at the other’s comment. “I am just prone to having my thoughts wander, that is all. I like tea, or at least the smell of it,” said Xiu as he gave a glance towards the dainty teacup in Rivener’s hand. “It has a very calming smell, at least in my opinion it does,”
“Not that you aren’t calm most of the time,” laughed Hazeline at Xiu’s answer. “I often wonder how you managed it Xiu. Do you keep bags of tea about you?”
“Surely not,” exclaimed Xiu with mock horror on his face. “Imagine if I were to get wet then. The stains would take forever to wash out,”
“True, true,” laughed Hazeline before the sound of a door opening down below was heard. “Oh dear…looks like we have customers,” said Hazeline getting up. “You boys go ahead and chat alright? It is rare that we have a raevan over,”

Rivener chuckled at the interaction between the Raevan and his guardian. Okay, so they seemed to get along really well. No wonder Xiu had wanted to defend her, when he apparently cared quite a bit. The Scorpion took another sip of his tea, turning as he heard the front door opening. Hazeline quickly went to take care of it, leaving Rivener and Xiu alone to talk.
The Scorpion finished his tea, gulping the rest in one go, setting it back down with a faint klik and a sigh of contentment. That really WAS rather tasty. "I shouldn't stay much longer, actually. Aphismet tends to worry when I'm out by myself, even if I'm a Sigel and quite capable of fighting back if something were to happen." The red eyes turned up to Xiu's, Riv offering a friendly smile. "I'm glad everything seems cool here for you. Although being around stuffy books all the time, no wonder you sometimes feel like going outside. Hazeline's probably real busy all the time, hunh."
It only took a small moment for Rivener to consider his next words, deciding quickly that yes, it was a good idea. "You should come see us sometime, at my house. You can meet MY guardian and take your revenge on me by grilling MY keeper as harshly as I did yours. Hahah. You'd also get to meet Eiry and his guardian Isi. And we have tons of pets! And our house is... interesting." Honestly, Rivener was more than a little curious how Xiu would react if he were to run into one of the many ghosts inhabiting the old Delaran home.
"Call us up sometime, even if Hazeline's busy we can come get you. Hell, even if I'm not there, just tell Eiry you're my friend and he'll be more than happy to entertain you." Although the idea of Eiry playing tricks on someone the very first time they met was rather disconcerting. Xiu seemed the type who'd not take that very easily. He'd be scared, most likely.
As though on cue now that Riv was starting to think about leaving, his cell phone rang. With a roll of his eyes the Sigel lifted a finger to motion for Xiu to wait a moment, and he fished the phone out of his pocket. "Hello? ...Yeeees, Aph. Almost. Like two more minutes and I'm coming home. -okay, bye." The cell flapped closed and Riv smiled sheepishly. "See? Worries."

“Yes, she is,” agreed Xiu nodding at the other’s statement. “She does research in a plant laboratory but the exact place…I am unfamiliar with. Mrs. Bediever usually takes care of the bookstore then so…that’s probably why she is indispensable,”
At Rivener’s offer, the white frei visibly beamed with delight. He had never been invited to another’s house before and to be invited by a Sigel no less!
“Truly? That would be simply splendid Rivener! But I am sure your guardian is a wonderful person,” said Xiu laughing softly at Rivener’s suggestion that he should berate the Sigel’s guardian. “I mean…he must have had a hand in raising you to what you are now; an impressive Sigel,” said Xiu with just the right amount of awe and envy in his voice. “ Makes me wonder I could ever be a match for you… and oh!” said Xiu floating over to a writing desk and rummaging through the table’s drawer. Finding a pen and paper, Xiu smiled and handed them to the Sigel. “To prove that I am seriously considering your invitation Rivener, I would need an address to go to wouldn’t I?”
After having successfully secured an address from the older raevan, Xiu waited patiently as the other answered his phone call; which surprised Xiu. Rivener’s guardian was actually that worried about the Sigel’s safety? That thought alone was enough for Xiu to eye Rivener incredulously. If that was Rivener’s guardian, it was no wonder that Rivener had thought that Hazeline was being a little lax with him. Floating over to the Sigel, Xiu chuckled. “Allow me to accompany you to the door then. We mustn’t worry your guardian too much,”
Floating down and past the counter where Hazeline was entertaining an elderly customer, Xiu opened the door for Rivener and bowed slightly. “It has been a pleasure having you here Rivener,” said Xiu meaning it. “I hope to see you soon then,”
From the counter, Hazeline smiled and gave the Sigel a farewell wave before turning towards the elderly man once again as he enquired about some book or another.
