Aditya nodded, starting to giggle. "Mud helps a lot." she kneeled down as she started to rub the mud onto herself. "It's so squishy!" she said giggling even more as she put stripes across her face, looking much like a tribal warrior.
"Become it's shadow..." Aditya repeated, all sign of laughter gone. "Alright! Let's do this!"

Riker was about to answer Adi before seeing her face. His mouth twitched in an amused grin, before he finally let loose a string of soft laughter. "I think you're ready." He replied finally calming down, replacing his amusement with a hunter's sternness.
"Now what I need you to do since I don't think you have a weapon?" Riker murmured in Adi's ears as he explained how she needed to find a way to sneak up behind a deer and chase it towards him so he could finish the job. "First we need to sniff out a deer, not a big fighter since it's just the two of us. But we can attempt to hunt a decent one."
His tail swayed behind him as he sniffed the air. Several stale scents of deer floated towards him from well used trails and he turned looking through the trees. But a couple of scents weren't so stale. "What do you smell?" He asked Adi, looking into the forest.

Aditya sniffed the air obediently, catching a whiff of deer, "Well...I smell nice deer. And flowers. That's all I can smell." she said triumphantly. The yellow wolftaur couldn't tell where exactly it was, but she knew it was somewhere close by. "For a weapon...we could probably just use a wooden spear right?" Aditya looked around and picked up a branch as high as her hip. "We could just sharpen this and attack!"

"Nice, but if you sniff closely you can pick out which are strongest. The stronger the smell, the most likely the fresher it is." Riker pointed to a hidden path to the right, "I'm guessing that deer just took that less than an hour ago."
Riker smiled at Adi's thinking and finally nodded, "Alright, we can do that. I'll let you rush the deer with the spear when we catch up to it." Taking a hold of the branch, Riker pulled out a sharp knife and began to quickly cut at the edges making it quite like a dangerous spear.
"There." He slipped the knife back into his hunting bag and nodded to the right. "Follow me and then we'll separate to try circling the deer when we see it. But we must be like shadows, swift and silent."

"Can I really?" she sniffed the air again, concentrating on the scents. "I guess your right... it's more stronger there." Aditya nodded.
"Wa-wait. Me?" she pointed at herself, anxious. "I don't think I can do it...I mean. What if I lose it?" she frowned. Even though she was supposed to shadow the animal, Aditya was worried that she would only hinder Riker with her lack of experience.

"Hey, trust me." Riker smiled warmly and patted Adi's shoulder encouragingly, "Just concentrate on chasing it, and I'll be there on the other side to help you catch the deer." A pause as he looked around them, tasting the air once more.
"Plus, I think one of the best ways to try it firsthand." He nodded and started to take several paw steps forward following the scent of the deer. Stopping Riker looked back at Adi and he grinned. "Don't worry, I'll be right there to help you even if you can't see me. I'm an expert at this after all."

"O-okay..." Aditya gripped the spear, twisting it in her hands nervously. She would have to take Riker's word on this and try her hardest to impress him. "I guess trying it for yourself is the best way to learn." she cracked an uneasy smile. Aditya followed after him as silently as she could, a paws making a quiet shuffling noise on the dirt.

Riker only turned to look at Aditya once as they traveled quietly through the woods. But suddenly he held out a hand to signal her to stop without making a noise. Closing his eyes he sniffed, and after catching the scent Riker quickly opened his eyes and moved to the side so Adi could see up ahead into the meadow.
There munching on grass was a deer. It wasn't old or young, but definitely had enough meat on it for the two of them. Riker grinned and got Adi's gaze, 'You can do this.' He thought giving one last encouraging smile before slipping back into the shadows.

Aditya was panicking when she saw the deer. 'Oh dear...' she thought wildly. The yellow fox felt lightheaded and slightly dizzy as she crept slowly up to the deer, managing to stay quiet. When she got close enough, she took the spear in hand and stabbed the deer as hard as she could hoping it wouldn't flee.

Riker followed the path around the deer, hidden by the woods and the bushes that brushed against him as he crept along. Wire glinted in the few spots of sunlight as he secretly moved about the deer. The deer let out a shrill sound of alarm before trying to move away from the wolftaur. It's back leg wobbled from the loss of blood and the spears weight, but the deer did try to run. But before it moved even a few feet away from Adi, a small snap was heard and barely a glint of wire could be seen before the deer fell backwards.
Riker's wrist flicked the wire back and he hoped that Adi hadn't seen how he'd helped. Instead the wolftaur popped out of the bushes and quickly flipped out a knife to cut the neck, where an outline of red could be seen. But that was quickly hidden behind the steady flow of life blood.
"Good job, Adi! I knew you could do it!" He called out with a smiled before indicating that they should both bow their heads. "A thank you for the life you have given us." He murmured giving a hunter's respect to their prey.

Aditya stood nervously, watching the deer wobble away. "Er..." she motioned her hand out to the deer as if trying to help him, but retracted her hand as she watched Riker grab the deer. She quickly bowed her head, grinning weakly. After Riker was done speaking, she looked at him and the deer and said, "L-let's eat!"

Riker's smile nearly left his face, but the wolftaur understood if Adi did have uncertainty about hunting. Tail wagging, Riker forced a big grin. "Hey..." His eyes became quite serious as a hint of his alpha leadership showed through his soft concern. "Adi, I'll take care of this. Why don't you go start a fire?" His hand gripped her shoulder in a small comforting squeeze before her waved her away. "Don't worry, I've got it. Really."

Aditya shook her head. "I wanna see you skin the deer!" her personality was starting to come back; the shock her of her finally managing to be a successful hunter was starting to ebb away. "I'll watch you ready the deer, so next time I can do it for you!" her ears perked up, and she smiled again.

"Are...are you sure?" Riker gave an astonished smile to Adi before shaking his head in mild amusement. His tail wagged though at the fact that he hadn't scared her away with the hunt. "But if it's too much you can go ahead and get the fire started at any time."
But he finally relented and took his knife to the neck of the deer, he'd start cutting from there. "Well you use a knife like this..." Riker began to skin the deer, his hands expertly handling the familiar processes.

"Alright then." she watched intently as Riker cut the deer, taking mental notes at how he cut into the flesh. Aditya wondered what she would make for Riker and herself. Maybe a stew? She did have her vegetables after all. She tapped her chin thoughtfully, not paying attention to the deer.
"...What do you want to eat?" she asked randomly.
