*indulges in a few choice swear words* Ok, I've run across a problem. This program will either become slightly more complex than I wanted it to be, or I'm going to have to learn another language, because the ones I do know aren't that great for this game.

The making the program more complex wouldn't be a problem, except I'm pretty sure not many of you would want to play anymore if I told you it would involve going into the program to copy and paste stuff inside the code itself. As for the other option... this program suddenly is going to take a lot longer than I wanted it to, because I have to spend some time learning new syntax, that in the end may be almost as useless as the ones I'm using now.

I'll let everyone in on my findings soon.... if anyone still checks this thread that is.

Ack, good luck. Sorry I can't help on this bit, but the extent of my coding knowledge is pretty much bolding text. sweatdrop

You made me realize something; how many people per party are you going to have? That could affect choices; there should be more classes to choose from if it's four.

Okay, you win on Hunters. For Warrior, I think it's such a staple that it's better to have around even if nobody uses it. I don't think you can mix Dark Knight and Paladin... sort of a conflict of interests? Mystic Knights... are only in V, right? It has an interesting mix of abilities, but nothing exclusive I don't think, so I say nix it. Ninjas don't have much exclusive, so I'd like to see them mixed with Thieves or something. I'd I agree with most of the mixes you proposed, though.

ahh, but you see, the mystic knight does exist in others, take Steiner and Vivi, that whole reason for Steiners magic sword techniques is another one of those things Squenix didn't let die. Besides, I do believe the four breaks are originally mystic knight abilities. That's the whole reason I just wanted to pack all the knights into one class, because it had already been done before, the result was Steiner, Captain of the Knights of Pluto.

EDIT: As for the whole programming thing, I'm looking into other programming languages, but I'm having one hell of a time trying to figure them out, because they aren't as simple what I normally use. So worst case scenario I chop the program into multiple peices to get it to work.

Next on the list... is everyone going to be playing this on Windows?

Once classes, party size, and stats for each class are ready I'll have the hero and party creation program ready.

Edit: I'm thinking we go with a 4 party system for variety.

I really think we should just have one mage class, one knight class, one summoning class, thief and things like that
PostPosted: Thu Mar 26, 2009 2:52 pm

I hate pollers, it says 4 people have voted, and yet only Raven and I have voted. I really wish this was more of a guild project...

BTW Mizuaki, one mage class would never work. People would rebel before allowing any mage have access to all black, white, time, and blue magic. Everyone would use a party of 4 mages, because any fight would end long before the mages ran out of magic.

I thought the Breaks were Samurai moves? I might just be thinking Auron, but I'm pretty sure that's the case. And while Sword Magic in IX was definitely spawned from Mystic Knights, it doesn't make Steiner one. After all, he can't do it by himself. It would be a really cool idea if you could incorporate some type of Unison Attack or something (*has been playing too much Tales of Symphonia*), but that doesn't sound too easy to program either. Really... you could mix them, but I think it take too much from each of them. After all, I never really found Steiner fun to play. confused

I'm on Windows, for one.

Well Raven, it actually wouldn't be that hard to program in dual player attacks. What may be the biggest problem is that to send other people your party for PvP you first have to write up your own gambit type system for your party.
Now granted I'm going to be making it as simple as possible, but lets be honest, unless I make a very complex menu system it's not going to be drag and drop like in 12.

It's going to be more or less a giant list that I'll email people and to try and make it so you can copy and paste as much as possible. But in the end it will be far easier to make mistakes. Though on the flip side of it, you will have almost twice as much control as FF12's gambit system.

Back to the major issues though. I NEED the classes and what stats are going to be used for starting. I can't continue at all with the program until I get this stuff, and I don't want to offend anyone by setting up the game how I think it should be without taking anyone else into consideration. Though if no one other then Raven responds, I'm going to be creating it how she and I think it should look. So please give me your opinions.

EDIT: *sigh* Raven could we move this to the main forum maybe?

All right, hopefully you can get some more responses here now!

(Hint hint, everybody. Really, it's not that hard.)

Thanks Raven. As for the rest of you, Raven's not kidding about the not hard part. I'm not asking anyone to wirte up code or anything. I just want some input so I can write it up and send everyone a copy.

Whew! That was a lot to read... Anyway, that's what I voted for..

keep: 2 mix: 0 remove: 1 Warrior
keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Monk
keep: 0 mix: 1 remove: 2 Samurai
keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Dragoon
keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Thief

keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Hunter
keep: 2 mix: 0 remove: 1 Berserker
keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Black Mage

keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Summoner
keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Time Mage
keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Geomancer
keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Scholar
keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Red Mage
keep: 2 mix: 0 remove: 1 Blue Mage
keep: 3 mix: 0 remove: 0 Bard
keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Beast Master
keep: 2 mix: 1 remove: 0 Dark Knight
keep: 1 mix: 2 remove: 0 Paladin
keep: 0 mix: 1 remove: 2 Mystic Knight
keep: 0 mix: 0 remove: 3 Gambler
keep: 0 mix: 0 remove: 3 Mime

As for stats, it's best to group the class in sub-groups such as Warriors & Monks in one, White Mages and Black Mages in another, etc. Once that's done, it might be a little more easier to set their basic because they'll be similiar to the others in that group. For example, White and Black Mages will have low attack and defense points but their magic abilities are high. If you want, I can try to get some stats set up for a few basic jobs.

Good luck with this project. It sounds like a big thing to work on, but I'll help out whenever it's possible.

keep: Monk
keep: Dragoon
keep: Thief
keep: Hunter
keep: Black Mage
keep: White Mage
keep: Summoner
keep: Red Mage
keep: Bard
remove: Gambler
remove: Mime

keep: 2 mix: 0 remove: 1 Warrior
(could you guys please explain why you want to keep this? It's basically a Paladin with no healing spells or ablities)

keep: 0 mix: 1 remove: 2 Samurai
(ok we need tho debate on this one because some of it's skills often get used and removing it would be kinda bad)

keep: 1 mix: 2 remove: 0 Ninja
(another debateable one, but all ninjas have as recurring thing really is throw)

keep: 2 mix: 0 remove: 1 Berserker
(serious debate on this one, it's a class all of it's own and can't be mixed and would like to know why we should throw it.)

keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Time Mage
(are we all in agreement to make all positive time magic go to white magic, and all negative to become black magic?)

keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Geomancer
(I can hardly belive this is even a class in and of itself. Does anyone know what magic even goes with this other than earthquake and such?)

keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Scholar
(almost the same as Time Mage, I think all alchemy should fall under white magic, and focus and such goes to black. Agreed?)

keep: 2 mix: 0 remove: 1 Blue Mage
(need to know why this was thought it should get tossed, or it's being kept like berserker)

keep: 0 mix: 3 remove: 0 Beast Master
(what are we mixing this with? summoner?)

keep: 2 mix: 1 remove: 0 Dark Knight
(I'll change my vote to keep if no one minds, and if I can get a list of what skills actually belong to this calls)

keep: 1 mix: 2 remove: 0 Paladin
(so, is this basically just going to be a warrior with white magic or did pallies have a certain class skill?)

keep: 0 mix: 1 remove: 2 Mystic Knight
(this and samurai sometime shared the four break attacks. if we remove both, those skills won't fall into another class. so we need to come up with a solution for that.)

I'm going to go scratch gambler and mime off the list. We need to figure these last classes out and give the remaining ones stats. I think Str, Mag, Spd, Vit, and spirit for the stats, and everything else is equipment based.

So once we have all that decided upon, we need to talk about leveling and equipment.

Soldiers/Warrior's like a basic class for those who fight with swords.

I don't know much about Samurais & Ninjas, but from the name I'm suggesting it's about swords and gil...

Berserker is just a Warrior with a serious edge to attack and no control... with a Black Mage in the party, you can just cast 'Berserk' on a soldier and he'll do the same amount of work...

I'm happy with the Time Mage idea, I wouldn't use the Time Mage on their own...

Geomancer reminds me of a Illusionist (wide area spellcaster), so their abilities are better shared off with the Mages or forgotten since the Summoner can do all that alone....

Thief can take the skills of a Scholar, in my opinion... or shared among someone else...

I like the Blue Mage - I didn't want to scrap it....

Beastmaster's more like a Blue Mage, but allowing another character in the party... like Manipulation in FFVII... if it's incorporated with Summoners, would that mean Summons will be part of the party?

I'm with you in the Dark Knight...

For Paladins, they're just like Warriors with better skills. If you have scrolls or some sort of item that allows teaching spells to other classes, then the Paladin can be scrapped...

I thought Mystic Knights were the same as Paladins...

you really didn't explain why you wanted to keep warrior, you just explained what it is... I need to know why you want to keep the class. I think it's pointless to keep a class that is just a weaker ver of another class.

Berserker isn't just a fighter with berserk on him. the berserker's entire equipment set is built to do more damage than even a black mage with spells. but it is also a unit that doesn't do well with taking hits. The idea behind the berserker is that if you kill it fast enough it can't hurt you.

hmm I didn't think about the scholar abilities going to the thief, it almost makes sense for alchemy to go to thief, but focus is still going to be balck mage exclusive.

beast master is a weird one. maybe we should consider scrapping or keeping it instead of mixing?

We are not making units that can do everything, The paladin is the way it is and that's final. I'm not adding a way to make a black mage to a fighter or any other such thing. I'm sick of that in Final Fantasy. There is no strategy involved when every class has access to skills that it shouldn't have.

Memphiskite, how many FF's have you played? There is a serious difference for each of these classes, but you kinda seem to know very little about how some of them are supposed to work while knowing a bunch about others. You should go play some earlier FFs or read stuff on google and wikipedia.

Raven what's your opinion on the classes?
