"You are swift? I wish I could run fast - my wings get in the way though." As he looked towards her as he spoke, he saw some of his powder on her now. He chuckled, a musical sound. "You have a bit of..." he said hesitantly, "may I?" He gently blew the fine powder off of her nose. Strange, the weather wasn't yet hot, but he felt much warmer than he thought he should.
After she was cleaned off, he started making his way towards the beautiful field he often went to for meals. He couldn't wait to show it to her - it was one of his favorite places. "You'll love the meadow we're going to my lady, it's very serene."

Kanani gasped as Crisanto blew the dust off her nose--but it wasn't a gasp of revulsion or fear. It was... well, she couldn't describe it. But... she liked it. But she quickly pushed the thought out of her mind and smiled, quickly leaping up to Crisanto's side. "Serene? Really? It sounds beautiful!" she exclaimed, trying to recall memories of peaceful meadows from her childhood. But nothing came to mind... the land had been consumed by fire too quickly for her to have memories.
For some reason, her heart was beating fast and strong, and a strange sort of playfulness crept into her. She was usually respectful and shy, but found herself wanting to express herself, to make this stallion notice her. So she gathered her muscles into strong coils and let them loose, bounding into the air like a deer bounded through the forests. She laughed freely as she ran swiftly along, then turned to circle around Crisanto.
"You see, Crisanto? I may not be able to fly, but I can run fast enough. It's the next best thing, I think!" she exclaimed, her lean muscles rippling, and her braided hair swinging about on her shoulders. She eventually came to walk beside him, and murmured, "You'd almost think we were complete opposites, Crisanto. A master of the sky... and a master of the ground."

Crisanto marveled at her grace - it was something he would never be able to compete with unless he was in the sky. "You're... absolutely amazing, my lady," he said breathily. He knew he wasn't being very polite looking at her for so long, but he couldn't help but admire her strength... and beauty.
Seeing how full of energy she was, he started to run as fast as he could - it wasn't as fast as her, but it was exhilarating; he knew she would catch up in no time at all. "It won't be long to the meadow if we keep this pace!"

Kanani grinned, her sides heaving from the adrenaline. "Amazing? No one's ever called me that." Her bright blue eyes seemed to connect with his for a moment, and a strange feeling ran over her body, like a warm flood, a strong ray of sun. It was sweet and frightening, all at the same time, though she couldn't bring herself to ignore it. It was a need, a desire... but for what, she wasn't quite sure.
She gasped when Crisanto darted past her, watching him barrel ahead, and giggled at the sight of his big wings flapping with the resistance of air. He was right--they did get in his way. But still, he was fast for a normal Soquili. Or at least she guessed, since she had not yet met any others. But he showed the same elated freedom that she did when she let herself loose, as if he was a normal ground Soquili! He was... beautiful.
"Hey! Do you really think you can win?!" she shouted teasingly, then took off after him, her white hoofs kicking up clods of dirt as they dug into the earth. Her speed increased as she moved along, and she smirked when she came up behind the galloping stallion. Her eyes ran over the sleek muscles in his legs, in his back, in his neck... he was so strong! Like a knight... or a guardian.
But he couldn't run as fast as her!
"Gotcha, Crisanto!" she exclaimed, darting past him. She looked back, her eyes connecting with his once again. What was it that she saw there? What was this feeling?

He knew she would have no trouble keeping up with him. He tried to keep up as best as he could, but he was no match for her speed - she looks lovely, he thought as he watched her streaming mane and tail, her graceful feet pounding against the ground. He wouldn't ever get enough of it, he was sure.
"Ok my lady!" he shouted ahead, laughing. "You win!" He ran on, keeping the pace he had started with. He knew he could keep it until they reached the meadow. He was happy when she slowed down a little for him, keeping their paces even.
It was a pleasure, running beside her. After awhile, he spotted a breaking of the trees in the distance - the meadow. "Do you see it Lady Kanani? It's just up ahead."

Kanani squinted her eyes as she looked ahead, her head leaning forward in mid-stride. Through the dense limbs and foliage, she could see a glimpse of something lighter, something open. The meadow!
She smiled and slowed, settling into an easier pace. "It's amazing, Crisanto! But I can't wait to see it ever closer--I bet it's even lovelier."
Without really thinking, she came closer to Crisanto and touched his neck with her muzzle, a sign of gratitude. Or a sign of even more... Her cheeks became warm as she pulled away, realizing her boldness, and she stuttered out a quick excuse, "Thank you, Crisanto. You have been very kind to me."

Crisanto's body tingled as he felt Kanani's soft muzzle rub against his neck. It was too soon for him when she pulled away - why was that? What made him crave her touch? he had only just met her. He didn't say anything about it though.
He slowed his pace to hers as they entered the beautiful meadow. It was after noon now, from the position of the sun, and he was famished. It was a lovely place - wildflowers grew among the golden stalks of wheat, a couple of apple trees bordered the woods, and there was a small lake at the north end.
He turned to Lady Kanani to ask her how she liked it, and found himself very close to her face. He blushed - something he didn't think he'd done since he was a foal. He stepped back after a moment of gazing into her sapphire eyes. "How does it suit you, my lady?"

Kanani smiled softly, noticing the faint tinge of barker color on the stallion's face. "It is beautiful. Just like my homeland used to be, or so I was told. I've never really experienced anything like it. " She turned away and took a few steps forward, relishing the soft feeling of the grass brushing against her legs. It was soft, and inviting... like Crisanto.
She turned to look back at him, then gestured towards the apple trees. "Should we graze there? There is plenty of shade, and I bet the apples are delicious." She started to walk away, but felt a sort of distress at being so separated from the stallion--if only for a moment. So she trotted back and stayed close to his side, waiting for him to move forward. Even though this place was lovely, it was still new; and she felt safe with Crisanto.

"That sounds lovely, my lady." She was so close that he could feel the heat radiating off of her from their run. He liked having her near him. He took a few steps forward, making sure she would follow, and then made his way near the trees.
Smiling to himself, he decided that he's like to give her a treat. He knew that the ripest and sweetest apples would grow at the tops of the trees. "One moment, Lady Kanani." He said as he fluttered his wings, carrying himself to the top of the branches. He took an apple delicately in his mouth and then lowered himself to the ground. He gestured for her to take it from him.

Once again, Kanani found herself full of wonder at Crisanto's natural display of flight. Her brow quirked as she speculated about what he could be doing, but relaxed when she saw the answer. She smiled and stepped forward, meeting the stallion as he landed. Her eyes fell on the ripe, tender apple, and her heart fluttered with joy anew.
"For me?" she gasped, stunned at his kindness. But she took the apple nonetheless, splitting it in half with her teeth. One half she placed at Crisanto' hooves, while the other half she chewed slowly, savoring the sweetest taste she had ever experienced. Her kind could only forage for such foods, and now she was eating an apple from the very top of a tree!
She swallowed gingerly, the taste still lingering in her mouth. "That was wonderful, Crisanto. You must be very lucky to be able to retrieve such good food whenever you like!" she exclaimed, her cheeks warming even more.

"Never worry my lady, I will never let you want for anything." He said this shyly, not knowing what kind of reaction she would have. He was drawn to her very strongly - he didn't want to let her out of his sight.
He took the other half of the apple and savored the taste, along with the feeling of joy of sharing a meal with this wonderful mare. He nibbled at the wheat stalks, filling his belly. Once he had his fill, he noticed that the sun was heading down. He felt a little grimy from the sweat from the days run, and decided to wash off in the nearby lake. "Won't you join me my lady? It will be refreshing to have a nice swim."

Kanani smiled at his shy promise, at his hesitant tone. She only felt joy at his words, for she had never experienced someone wanting to make sure that she was happy, and only her.
Kanani turned in the direction of the lake, noticing the beautiful, calm waters that filled it. It was just right for the dream-like meadow, fitting in perfectly with the flat fields of golden wheat, and the sun-kissed vision of mountains in the backdrop. It seemed the best way to cool off--and Kanani did feel suddenly dirty, as if the last of her journey from ash-fillled lands and the glorious race from earlier had left too much to bear in her usually gleaming fur.
So she nodded, stepping off toward the shore. "I'd love to join you, Crisanto. If you wouldn't mind, of course--" she said, her face warming. She had never swam with anyone but her mother before, since it almost seemed... kind of intimate.

He was no longer afraid of... what had he been afraid of anyhow? Rejection maybe? It didn't matter though - Lady Kanani said that she would join him.
He started towards the water, and slowly submerged his body - being carful to not let his wings get too wet. It wouldn't matter too much, but he dreaded being unable to fly, even for only an hour or two while they dried out. Or maybe longer, if the powder needed to regenerate.
"Lady Kanani, the water feels wonderful!"

Kanani watched him with an almost child-like curiosity, wondering how a Soquili with such large wings would go about in the water. But, seeing that he was perfectly comfortable, she decided to take her own route in, and gave a mischievous grin. "This is how you swim!" she exclaimed, and took off at a full run, her hooves digging into the ground. At the last moment, right beside the water's edge, she kicked off and jumped as high as she could, soaring through the air like a bird. Then, just as quickly, she fell back into the water and let herself be consumed by the crystal depths, enjoying the feeling of being engulfed by the cool wetness. She emerged from the water, her hooves barely touching the lake's bottom, and gave her head a shake, laughing as water flew in every direction.
"You're right, Crisanto! The water does feel lovely!" she exclaimed, laughing. She gave her legs a quick and swam over to the stallion, yet still too hesitant to get too close. But she felt a need to be near him--that was for certain.

Crisanto laughed as Lady Kanani jumped into the water, the deep bell sound that was much like her own tinkling. Her splashes reached him, and got the rest of him wet. "Alright, you asked for it Kanani!" He lifted the front of his body up and crashed down into the water again, sending a wave of it towards her, laughing. It was the first time he hadn't used her name formally. It was the first time he'd done that with anyone.
