I've tried both of those amps and I wasn't impressed. I would suggest getting a Vox Valvestate amp, the VT-30 is a great sounding amp for instance. In my experience it is by far the best sounding smaller amp in its price range. It has a tube in it and seems to be the best of both worlds in terms of mixing solid state and tube amp sound and making the price way lower than an all tube amp. Another feature it has is a power knob on the back that lets you adjust the amount of wattage the amp uses. This may not sound like much, but it is an amazing feature that let's you get a much clearer sound out of the amp just by rolling back the wattage a tiny bit and overdriving it. My friend has a classic VOX AC-30 which is a $1000+ tube amp. My VT-30 was able to compete with it in terms of volume and quality of tone and mine was only $220. Anyways, I can't recommend the VOX Valvestate series enough as an inexpensive, portable, huge sounding amp series!

I don't like modeling amps in general. No offence to those of you who use them, I'm just old fashion like that. I would go with the Orange. It is a tube amp, and tube amps are louder and they do last longer than the spider 3, which is a solid state.
My vote is for Orange, but definetly try them both as often as you can before you decide to buy one. That's how I pick my Alvarez over a Yamaha.

Praise to Him With Strings...
um, maybe I'm just old fashion but nothing beats a vintage Marshal or vintage Peavy amp. Love mine any way and they're both over 30 years old and still kickin'. Hell, Volume on 2 is loud enough to fill a auditorium with a metal assault on society. cool
...oh, by the way I'm Awesome!

Sounds like it's basically split down the middle. I have a spider II, and I've messed with a spider III and an Orange amp. GET THE ORANGE!!! Although it doesn't come with any presets, the basis of getting a good tone is having a good clean tone and then put the effects you want on it. in my opinion Line 6's clean tones suck and the Orange amp doesn't.
