Wow, this guy was really nervous. Not that Gir knew why or that it might have something to do with him. He seemed to be looking at the clock. Gir glanced at it, knowing it wans't time for his Lady to return just yet. He missed his Lady, he wished she was here. But for now, he was stuck with this guy. But Dra said he would give Gir money for candy! He wanted candy! He liked Dra's first idea but pouted when the male suddenly took it back.
He crossed his arms and gave a big pout, much like a child until Dra said they would go get candy. And then play another game! And with someone he didn't know! Dra had a master? Was that like having Gir having his Lady? Dra must serve this master. He wondered if he served him as loyally as Gir served her Lady. But games and cady sounded good to Gir!
"Ok! Gir and Dra shall go get candy! Then Gir shall hide from Dra's master! It will be fun!" He danced to the door and out into the street. He turned to wait for the mage to join him, as he was suppose to stay with him.

Dra was momentarily distracted as his thoughts were once more directed towards the spell he had been working on earlier..so nearly didn't notice when Gir danced out into the street. When he heard the door creak shut did he finally look up and almost had a heart attack when Gir had disappeared from sight. At first he looked around the room..wondering if the illusionist had used his powers again to play around with him.
"Gir? Are you still here?" Silence answered his question and Dra cursed under his breath and strode over to to the door, realizing that Gir must have slipped outside while he had been distracted.
He sighed in relief when he spotted Gir waiting in the street below. He grabbed his staff and a handful of gold coins, enough he figured to buy a big enough bag of candy to keep Gir happy for at least a month's time. He slide the coins into a pocket of his robes and left the apartment, shutting, locking and enchanting the locks before he joined Gir on the street below.
"Next time..don't just go disappearing on me like that. I thought you were playing your invisible game again. Now..stay close and try not to draw too much attention to us. The likes of drow that wander around at these hours are the unsavory sort..and will attack anyone that seems to be a good target. Though.." Here he paused, stopping his swift pace to straighten his cloak and stand up a bit straighter. "If one appears more imposing and of higher status its less likely that one will get attacked. Even..the riffraff knows better than to mess with a high society Mage..and his apprentice." Dra added winking at Gir.

Gir didn't seem to hear Dra or if he did he was ignoring him. The streets had been Gir's home for many years, what with so few people willing to take in a drow such as himself. Those that did ususally kicked him out after a day or two of his usual antics. So the streets were no stranger to him nor were the people who walked it. Many shopkeepers knew Gir, most feared or hated him but a few were somewhat kind. Those were mostly the slightly senile ones or the ones who found Gir's antics amusing when they were happening to someone else.
He turned when Dra mentioned "apprentice". He remembered that word. It was a strange word. Vague shadows of memories struck him as dark figures spoke of him becoming one and other more vivid memories of other mages who had attempted to train him. All tries had ended in failure, even the dark vision one despite Gir's lack of memory. He recited what one master had told him, "Gir is untrainable. Gir can never be an apprentice. Gir has been told that many times. He loves his goddess too much to bow to a male. Males are respectful to females. Males are to obey."
It was almost like a parrot, as if Gir had been trained to say that over and over again. It was spoken with little of his normal emotion but with complete seriousness. He had heard it many times either yelled, bemoaned, or cursed at him. But those memories were in the past and his quickly distracted mind raced when he saw the food shops. He laughed childishly and danced over to each stand.
Each vender seemed to stiffen at his approach, demanding what Gir wanted. Gir would just smile and say he was looking at the delicious food then wander off as if nothing had happened. That was what scared most shopkeepers here, Gir was the ipitome of unpredictability. One, a hardened man who obviously was once a warrior, leanded against his shop's timber and spoke to his neighbor just as Dra pasted. None suspected the mage of being in Gir's company and most always talked freely about him. When there was food around, Gir did not pay attention to anything else.
"I wish he wouldn't come around here, its bad for business."
"Yeah but he has his uses. Remember that time that little steet gang tried to make us all pay for protection. HA! One round with Gir and they were the ones who needed protection."
"Yeah but remember what he did to that guard? That guard has never been the same. They say he had to quit and join the lower ranks just so he wouldn't be forced to patrol here."
"Well it was quite a sight. Gir being cut in half only to walk around him balancing like a bat on the ceiling. Then to cut him in half and dance around his disembodied legs. Quite frankly I was rubbing my own middle after that."
"Yeah, not many ate that day but it sure kept the local theives in business."

Dra'nahfiel could tell that the young illusionist wasn't really paying attention to his words and couldn't help but roll his eyes and grin. Young ones never did change, it was always in one ear and out the other. It made him rather chagrined to realize he had been the same way at his age..well at least he had only pretended not to hear what others said. He actually could recall everything of importance that had ever been relayed to him all the way back to his 8th year in life. Not many drow could boast that.
Dwelling in the past was not a distraction he cared for at this point in time..especially with how quickly the small illusionist managed to get into trouble. He was rather stunned when Gir recited in a monotone voice "Gir is untrainable. Gir can never be an apprentice. Gir has been told that too many times. He loves his goddess too much to bow to a male. Males are respectful to females. Males are to obey."
Dra turned to stare at the fellow, and realized that it was some sort of litany that had probably been drilled into the poor fellow's head by magic teachers when he had been in the Magic School for training. He couldn't help but shake his head and sighing as Gir broke out of the trance with a gleeful laugh and started dancing over to each stand and perusing the items before dancing on to the next one. Dra followed doggedly after the little imp, half amused at the other's antics.
And since he didn't appear to be with Gir, he was privy to seeing the reactions the vendors had to Gir and what they said about him. What he heard was rather amusing and slightly disturbing to him. He chose not to say anything, but to take his time in taking in everything the vendors were saying.

Gir finally made it to the candy shop, looking to the owner with a big smile. The owner was actually a female and adored the little drow despite his insanity. She reached over and patted his head like a dog, of course if Gir had a tail it would be wagging about a mile a minute. "Good Afternoon Lady Frigiri!! Gir is so happy to see you! Gir has a new friend! He says he will buy Gir candy!"
Fri smiled a bit and looked at the small drow. He was undersize, underweight, completely lacking manner, but he was devoted to all the women of the market. "Well little Gir. What kind of candy would you like today?" She waved her hand over the many sweets she offered. Then she glanced up to look for Gir's new friend. Most likely this friend looked confused or amuzed. The drow in blue seemed a likely candidate but she'd wait.
Gir smiled brightly and bowed in gratitude. "Thank you Lady Frigiri!" The small drow began looking over the candy then held up some. "Dra!! Gir would like this candy!"

Dra'nahfiel turned when he heard Gir calling to him and shot him a slight smile, and then turned to shoot an accusing glare at the merchants he had passed. They gulped and backed away slightly when they realized the mage was a friend of the little illusionist. "Just a moment Gir, I'll be right there." he called in a pleasant tone, his gaze still resting on the merchants in a merciless glare.
"I don't care what opinions you may have about Gir, but if I hear one word of you trying to harm him or bring harm to him I will deal with you personally. Remember that." Dra sneered at the merchants. "And should that happen, I can guarantee that I and those I serve will no longer buy from you."
With that said, Dra turned shaking himself off, as though getting rid of dirt and walked over to join Gir inside the candy shop. He came to a stop at Gir's side, peered down at the candy in Gir's hands. "Looks good to me. Is there any other kind you'd like to get as well?" Dra asked with a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
He pulled his coin purse out of his robes and opened it and started counting out several coins, while he waited for Gir's answer.

The merchants were quickly silenced, at least when the drow was in ear shot. They gave him a few dirty looks as he walked toward the candy shop and wondered what stupid idea the mage had gotten into his head. Gir was never going to be trained to be a true mage. Maybe a good theif but not a mage
"No, Gir likes this candy." The fushia eyed drow smiled and got a bag of it. He looked more childish than ever holding the large sack of sweets. He hugged it to his body like a stuffed animal and did a little song and dance while he wanted for Dra to pay. "Gir likes candy. Gir likes sweets. Gir is a good boy who deserves his treats!"
Fri laughed softly as the boy chose his candy then did his usual "Candy Dance". Gir had a habit of that, only this time her candy wasn't dancing with him. She looked to the mage who was paying with suspicion. What was he doing with a sweet boy like Gir? Didn't he know Gir was not meant to be trained as a mage. He was meant to be a sweet boy who kept morons in mind. "So, you are Gir's new friend hmm?"

"All right then, " Dra replied pulling more than enough coins to pay for the candy and placing it in the candy shop owner's hand. "If you have it, I would like some dark chocolate as well."
Then his attention was once more drawn to Gir when he did his little dance and song. He couldn't help but smile at the younger drow's antics and personality. Gir was such a refreshing character...so innocent and childish...for the most part. Dra had no doubt that Gir was as devious as the merchants had claimed to that he had no illusions against. Gir was a pretty strange fellow but in all a rather simple fellow.
Dra was rather taken aback by the owner's question of him. He blinked and stared at her not sure if he had heard her right. She sounded as though she had already judged him to be a ***** suppose you could consider me a friend, though today was the first time I had the honor of meeting and getting to know him. The Mistress of the Fi'reth'ul House that I serve faithfully asked me to watch over him for her, as she had a job to see to. She didn't feel it wise to leave him unattended in her House as her brothers are quite ruthless fellows. So far, he's been most entertaining." Dra'nahfiel replied in a very dignified manner.

The owner continued to eye him as he spoke of his current babysitting job over dear little Gir. So that female who had taken him in was dealing with family business? Well at least she kept Gir out of danger for now, or at least danger that would involve the death of her brothers due to insanity. She tossed a white lock of hair over her shoulder and looked back to Dra. Her red eyes were very serious as she gathered up a bag of dark chocolate as she was paid. After all he did have money so she would definitely sell to him.
"So, you've only met him today. Did she warn you about him? Most of us merchants know dear Gir well. As well as the local band of thieves. They like to follow him so watch your purse while traveling with him. Caravan leaders also know of him. He travels in and out of the city on our caravans in return for either entertaining us or keeping attackers away."
Fri had known Gir for several years. He actually rode in on her caravan all those years ago when he outstayed his welcome in that part of the Underdark. Only the females could bare his presence, the male merchants hated him.
Gir was currently staring off into space as he munched on a piece of candy.

Dra'nahfiel could tell the female was a bit protective of Gir. It seemed most females who knew Gir were that way..he found that rather weird. What was it about Gir that made most males despise him and females love and want to protect him? Was it the childish way he acted? Or was it something deeper and more sinister? Dra didn't really want to try and fathom what was going on, not until he was able to get on Gir's good side.
"Thank you," Dra replied taking the bag and sliding into an inside pocket of his robes.
He was rather shocked at how forward and inquistive the female was with him. He blinked in surprised, thinking over her words for a few moments before finally responding.
"Yes, today was the first day I've met Gir. We had a particularly interesting game of hide'n'go seek before I realized just how gifted he was. I'm glad to know Gir does have some friends. From what I heard from those fellows, I was hoping he did." Dra replied casually nodding in the other merchant's direction that he had spoken to before.
Dra'nahfiel turned to check on Gir, remembering that he should always keep an eye on the fellow. He was relieved to see Gir standing still munching on his candy with a far off look in his eyes. Perhaps, he thought to himself, it was time to leave before Gir got any notions in his head. He really didn't want his master showing up to an empty apartment. It would definitely not be good for him if that were to happen.
"Come Gir, we really should be returning now. Remember..you'll have to play hide-n-seek with my master, so he doesn't know that you're there. We wouldn't want for his unwanted attention to be drawn to you."

The female gave him one last look as he spoke of returning to his master. She spoke one last word of advice before returning to her customers. "If your master does find him, just ask him to look into Gir's eyes."
Gir seemed to break from his reverie as Dra spoke to him. He nodded and danced around back towards Dra's home. "Gir will play a good game! But why does Dra not want Gir to meet his master? Does Dra not like Gir?" He turned his darkened pink eyes to the male in question. He was curious after all as to why Dra didn't want anyone to know who Gir was. Lady Imordana always enjoyed introducing him.

Dra'nahfiel turned to stare at Gir with alarm showing on his features at the female's words. "I'll remember that..thank you I think."
That being said and the fact that he was now curious and rather wary to find out what looking into Gir's eyes might do he was ready to head out. He however wasn't expecting Gir's next question. He stared at Gir for a moment, before the right words came to him.
"I like you a great deal, that is why I don't want you to meet my master. He unfortunately is old and set in older times, he would think it more fitting to see you uh..not wandering around so freely. It would just be a lot safer and much better for everyone involved for you to not show yourself to him. I believe, though I'm not sure that he was one of the teachers when you went to the school all those years ago. I'm sure he hasn't forgotten about you." Dra replied, hoping he hadn't said too much.
"Are you ready to go now?" He asked, trying not to appear as stressed out as he felt.

Gir simply watched Dra closely as he spoke his answer to the posed question. Perhaps he had his own reasons for asking it but they were only known to him, o at least you hoped so. Each sentence meant something to the small drow, and his face mostly showed what his reactions were. Dra like Gir, so he smiled. Dra's master was an old fuddy duddy, so Gir frowned. He didn't want Gir wandering aorund, well no one wanted Gir wandering around; many had told him that loudly. So he just giggled at that. But that last bit made him go quiet. He walked back towards Dra's home but continued to remain quiet. His eyes were blank, showing no emotion or what perhaps was running through his mind.
In his mind a memory was trying to surface. Normally Gir had no memories of his past. His life before his maddess was totally gone, it had been erased in the moment his power surged into his head. Memories afterwards were hard from him to bring up, especially those so close to that time. That meant the time he spent at the school of magic. He had fleeting glimpses, like something moving past a hole in the wall. You only ever saw bits. Now his mind played out a scene in such a way.
Rubble all around him, smoke and blood clouding his vision. Suddenly he's in a in a bed in a dark room. Many people are standing over him. Next lots of sparkles and the disapproving looks of tall males. Curious looks from others his own age, even one with blue eyes. Finally screams fill his ears, and darkness decends again. Gir actually put his hands over his ears as the memories sparked through his head. He could hear the screams and sometimes, when he remembered, it felt like the memories were trying to force their way out of his head. For now, Gir remained silent all the way back to Dra's home.

Dra'nahfiel was rather concerned when Gir took in his words without a comment. The giggle that emerged from the younger drow relieved him somewhat, but his concern came back when Gir was completely silent during the walk back to his apartment.
Had he known what was going around in Gir's mind he might have tried to help Gir with the unwanted memories. Dra hadn't had a very good childhood himself, seriously what drow did?, and had struggled with overcoming bad memories for awhile. It had been his master that had actually aided him the most in overcoming them. It had been a long and difficult journey for him to go through but it had been worth it in the long run.
Dra's attention was brought back to the present when he saw one of the windows of his apartment shoved open from the inside. He laid a hand lightly on Gir's shoulder at the bottom of the steps that led up to his apartment to stop him from going up.
"Hold on Gir, it looks like I have some company waiting, let me go check it out. If it's my master I may have to find another place for you to hide, if not I'll tell you to come up." Dra said with a slight frown.
Dra'nahfiel already knew it wasn't his master, as the older sorcerer would never enter his apartments when he wasn't there. It had to be someone else that either knew where he hid his secret key, or a thief. If a thief had dared to enter his abode, he was damned if they were going to get away with anything!
Dra strode up the stairs silently, his robe swishing around his ankles mirroring his agitated mood. He stopped at the door, slide it open slowly and peered into the interior of his apartment. What he saw next made his eyes go wide in surprise.

Could his memories be helped? Maybe, maybe not. Gir's mind was so damaged by his magic it was a wonder he wasn't more mad that he already was. It had been commented at the school that his magic could very well eat away at his sanity until he was a danger to himself and to others. In fact the masters of the school had to restrain him several times before the horrific incident by literally binding him with magical wards like a straight jacket. He had been lucid and almost normal in that state but in severe pain as his magic tried to reinstate itself. Strangely enough Gir could not remember any of the times his magic had been warded, it was as if those were big gaps in his memory erased by his magic once it was in control again.
Gir had stopped when Dra had put his hand on him but his mind was still moving in his memories. He didn't see the mage move forward to inspect his abode nor the mention of having to find a new place to hide. Only once he realized he was alone did he snap out of it. Curiously and having completely not heard Dra tell him to stay back the young illusionist creeped up to the doorway and peeked in to see what the mage was doing. "Dra?"
