For the love of a child

march 7th 2009

This was, Rinali thought, perhaps the hardest decision she had ever made. It had been nearly two centuries since Pyran was a child and he her only one at that. The seraph loved her son dearly but she found that she long for the feelings of being a parent again. She was still youngish for her kind considered perhaps nearing middle age by human standards. Perhaps it was that too that made her want to raise another child.

There had been much for the angel to think about, first how this would affect her relationship with Czhichi. The tiger woman had been happy for her and agreed that raising a child in their shared living space wouldn't be a problem. It had, Rinali though, brought the two women closer and the orange haired woman had a feeling a child would sooth Czhichi's own maternal instincts.

It was be interesting certainly to raise a a child with her, having been married to Talorian throughout all of Pyran's childhood and most of his life. Experienced at least in the art of child rearing, Rinali was sure she could manage that and to keep her relationship in good condition. She would not allow this woman she had come to love to suffer nor would she neglect the child she was going to adopt.

Well, eventual child, to begin with she was getting a cabbage from the labs of Dr. Akari. Well a computer wrapped side a cabbage except less wrapped in than merged with. A teacher Rinali might be but even she wasn't sure how to interpret the strange miracle that was a plant that gave life to children. Regardless she was thankful for them as they gave her the opportunity to be a mother again. She might share no blood relation to the child who would be born of the cabbage but in her mind family was rarely restricted just to those who shared your blood.

As she had thought more about doing this, bringing another child into her life after so long Rinali had wondered how fit a parent she might be. Research online showed she was decidedly behind the times here in typical parenting trends but that the core values and tenets of parenting remained the same. She had varying results on are you ready to be a parent quizzes but found that she smiled anytime she read an article that showed the trials of parenthood for those questioning it. The angel had been through much of this before and as harrying as it had been she had lived and her son had emerged as mostly unscarred young man.

There had been other little things, Rinali had wrestled with like the need to bottle feed if her child emerged as an infant, there seemed to be some range with what the cabbaged produced. Still, she had dealt with those found answers to most of her questions and put aside those which would have to be dealt with should they occur.

Now after having done all of that, having found the lab and secured an appointment she had to break the news to her son. She had told Talorian earlier today over lunch in the cafeteria. Her ex husband had smiled and said he'd babysit anytime and that he was happy for her. It hadn't surprised her all that much, Tal had always been the easygoing accepting sort and a mutual breakup after falling out of love had left them still good friends.

She'd informed him first becuase she still cared about his opinion and becuase she knew he'd have some good ideas on how to break the news to Pyran who had dealt with their split up less them happily but had come to terms with their new relationships. Perhaps becuase he was able to see them often now and be assured that they were indeed happy.
None of that however, was likely to stop him even at his age from becoming jealous and arguing with his mother about wether or not he thought she should do this.

Still, it needed to be done and she did want his support so after ruffling and then settling the feathers on her three sets of wings, head back and ankles, the seraph left her house and headed towards the gymnasium where Pyran should just be finishing up a practice. Rinali could only hope her son would take the news of a new sibling well.

Mommy has all the answers

Rinali bustled about the living room duster in hand, while the woman had never been much of a clean freak she did like tidyness and she was also making notes or areas that could possibly be problematic once she had a child running around.

Childproofing was impossible and illogical considering the other residents of the house, putting up gates and such would only cause them problems, so Rinali was making certain she knew the place like the back of her hand so she'd be prepared for anything. Her cabbage was at the moment in a small playpen she'd assembled corner of the living room. Someday soon it would be her new child , near and dear to the angel's heart.

About that time, a knock was heard at the door. Divine had come over, bringing the vegetable that'd appeared on his belly that morning. He had spotted Rinali with hers and figured she might be able to tell him more about the one that'd arrived for him as well as the one for Pyran. The angel had mentioned adopting a child before she'd started carrying around the cabbage so they had a feeling that's what'd come out of theirs as well. Smiling back at the lover who'd come with him, he waited for an answer.

Placing the duster on the coffee table the orange haired woman walked to the door wondering who it was and what they wanted, they were probably here for Czhichi. Opening the door the woman blinked in surprise as she stared at her son and son in law, it wasn't horribly uncommon for them to visit her but they were holding cabbages, just like her cabbage.

" Come in" she murmured a bit dazed and moved to give the two men room " I thought your family was big enough already" Not that they weren't entitled to more children if they could raise them as well as the last ones. But why now and why hide their intentions from her?

"So they ARE the child giving kind of cabbages then?" Divine asked as they entered. "We woke up and had cabbages for no clear reason. We've got no idea where they came from or why we received them."

Pyran nodded , they'd though they looked like the kind his mother had but they hadn't been sure untill now.

Closing the door Rinali nodded " Yes they look pretty much exactly like mine" she reached out to feel the leaves on Pyran's " Feel the same too, the leaves are thicker and more flexible than a normal cabbages." This was a strange but interesting happening to be sure, the woman though as she took a seat on the couch.

Still holding his cabbage, Pyran leaned against a living room wall a bit more comfortable staying standing.

"So, what can you tell me about the cabbage kids? Are they going to be veggie monsters?"

The seraph laughed at that and shook her head: " They can be anything really, since you got them by accident pretty much anything could be inside. To be honest I don't even know what I'm getting. I adopted a random cabbage with no knowledge of what will appear when it um.. hatches?" Was that the appropriate term?

"Hrm. Well, then we shall just have to see, won't we?" Divine laughed, bouncing the one on his lap lightly. "Are there any care instructions for what it needs?"

" Water and sunlight, they're indestructible biocomputers for the most part so they generate anything else they might need" which was probably a good thing becuase Rinali could imagine some people ignored surprise cabbages until a baby came out of them

"The indestructible part is a relief - I have a feeling they would end up nibbled on otherwise." the swan laughed again. "Water and sunlight I think we can handle giving them."

Pyran smiled at that, Connor might be older and with less tendency to chew the heck out of things but she was still a curious child at times and the likelihood of the alligator girl chewing on a leaf or two was pretty high. The red haired seraph let his eyes wander the room until they spotted the cabbage that would become his younger sibling, really these were strange circumstances. "Hmm yeah and tea maybe? Plants are supposed to like tea." Ok so it was computer plant but still it might like it.

"....I thought plants only really liked tea cause it was water with weird stuff in it." the older male commented with a quirk of a brow.

" Certain plants like tea but that has more to do with what they are potted in." Rinali corrected " However that's not important and I don't think cabbages need tea."

"All right, because that just seemed a bit silly. Children hatching from vegetables is weird enough without having to also pour tea on said vegetables to feed them."

Pyran frowned, well it had made sense to him. " How long do we have before they become kids?" They definitely needed to do some preparing.

Rinali shrugged " A week maybe, two at most, depends on when the biocomputer is programmed to deliver the child. I've had mine nearly four days now and haven't seen any sign of activity." Not that she was even sure what to look for, the people at the lab had simply said she would know when it was time.

"Well, we shall have to get a room set up for them. I think putting two kids in one room will work for the beginning portion at least." Divine commented. "Pyran, what do you think?"

Rinali nodded " At least until they are old enough to want their own." She herself had shared a room with her older sister for the first few years of her life, and it hadn't been too bad that she remembered. Her own little one would have their own room if only because they would be the only baby of the house.

Pyran shrugged " Seems like a good idea, easier than running back and forth between two rooms at night." He looked thoughtful " Do you even still have baby things or do we need to buy new stuff?"

"Mm we should have plenty - we went shopping recently for stuff for Jade, and I still have Jake and Autumn's old things. Plus, we don't know what Pash has."

" Things Connor has chewed?" Pyran suggested wrly.

"Well yes, probably, but you never know." the man responded with a chuckle, standing and walking over to hug his mother-in-law. "Thanks for your time, Rinali. That's all we'll be needing I believe."

Rinali hugged the white haired man and smiled " You know you're always welcome here and I'd be glad to babysit my new grandchildren when they arrive. Tell Pash I love him too"

"All right. Will do." the man intoned before straightening up and going to stand beside his husband. "Shall we head home, dearest?"

Pyran nodded and winked at his mother " we'll leave her be I think Czhichi's supposed to be done her practice soon so they'd kick up out anyways." The angel wrapped a rust red wing around Divine " We shall go set up a nursery for our.. cabbages" he was still never going to be used to strange objects giving him children.

"Oh yes, most likely. Not that we wouldn't do the same to them if they came over before one of us came home from practice." the swan laughed, waving to the older woman as they exited. "And yes, a nursery should be good. Just nothing too hard to tear down since you never know how fast children grow these days."

Inseparable

At the moment Rinali figured she might as well be pregnant again. She wasn't fat or throwing up but she was unable to leave her child to be. Since the cabbage could change at any time the seraph woman found herself unable to really go anywhere without it lest she not be there when her child was born. Oh she could leave it with Czhichi she supposed but that was unfair to make the other woman cabbage sit during her time off even if they would sort of be co parenting the child together. In any way it meant that Rinali spent most of her day with her cabbage which meant taking it everywhere she went.

Shopping was interesting, surely she must have been the only one wandering around the mall with a cabbage in a stroller, then again there were kids that looked like cabbages and other things resembling food that was alive in strollers so who knew how weird she looked in comparison. At least the woman had had the good sense to stay away from grocery shopping to avoid any possible kerfluffles with mistaken identity of her cabbage. Although the redhead did have to admit it'd be rather interesting to try and explain to the staff of a store how her cabbage was actually a super computer that would become a kid and not an edible cabbage for sale for 66 cents.

Though she was doubtful of their use and if the cabbage had any sort of sound receptors at the moment, the woman had picked up a few children's audio books to play to the cabbage while she slept. It wasn't like the plant needed sleep of it's own and the sound of voices was supposed to be comforting to infants in womb type things. There was also the idea that it helped give children a mental boost and a small edge in learning to recognize words and such once they were born and Rinali, well she had to admit the idea was pleasing to her. She still wasn't sure cds would help but at the very least she could play the books to her child once they were born and that was a worthwhile investment.

Aside from shopping Rinali took the cabbage to watch shows at the cirque de lune where not surprisingly no one looked at her odd for giving the thing it's own seat, which was good becuase the cabbage was heavier than normal. the seraph also took her child to be on walks, bike rides and to visit her family, infact there were few peopel in general rinali knew that hadn't met the cabbage. She was truly worse than a parent with a wallet full of photos.

The day her child was actually born she'd probably only get worse too. Until then it was all cabbage all the time.

The wait is over.

" Honey come back," Rinali rubbed at her temples as watched as her little girl, who'd finally emerged from her cabbage glared at the seraph woman and toddled away.

" No"

" I'm sorry" The woman's voice was soft and reassuring, it had been an accident well no a curiosity. The small girl had a tiny set of wings but they seemed to have a bright purple ribbon wound through their dark blue feathers; well dark blue aside from a small bright blue patch at the joint of the wings. Curious about the ribbon Rinali had gently tugged at it thinking it would slide free. Instead it had only made the girl whimper and crawl away from her mother. The redhead felt bad about it, she wasn't starting off very well for her second time as a mother.

At her apology the dark purple haired girl paused and watched Rinali with her inky black eyes.

" Tezza my little one, please come back." Rinali had long since learned chasing children was pointless, even if the girl would be easily caught it would only upset her and make this less pleasant for both of them.

"zza?" The girl tilted her head and looked at Rinali curiously.

"Tezza" Rinali repeated, it was her people's custom to allow older children to name theirr next sibling, with Pyran her only child it had been his choice what the girl would be called and they had discussed his feelings on it a few days ago. If the child was a girl he'd picked the name Tezza, Rinali thought it was a fine choice and so that it ws the girl would be called.

The oddly dressed girl looked down at herself " Tezza?" Tezza looked up slowly and smiled at Rinali before walking not quite stably over to her mother and reaching her arms up a seemingly innate instinct for all children regardless of race to signal that they wanted to be picked up.

Rinali couldn't resist her little girl and gently lifted the girl up to hold her to her chest, it felt right to hold the girl like this and know Tezza would trust her and depend on her for years to come. It was everything that she'd been missing and now she finally had it again.

Carrying Tezza, Rinali headed towards the kitchen " lets get you some breakfast shall we, and then we'll call your big brother and tell him how cute you are."The angel was certain Pyran would be equally thrilled and jealous since he was waiting on his own cabbage to hatch. " Hmm and then we'll go see Czhichi and the cute baby tigers she takes care of ." The other woman had already been up for the day and off to feed the cubs she cared for by the time Tezza's cabbage had chosen to open.

Tezza listened to her mother babble as she held tight to her and smiled softly, she had not liked earlier when her ribbon was pulled on but now everything was ok, everything would be fine.

Egg hunts are hard, Kitties are awesome

" One at a time Tezza and no fighting" Rinali reminded her daughter as he set her down just before the start of the the big egg hunt. Though the small winged girl was only a toddler she hadn't wanted Rinali's help with collecting her eggs. The purple haired child held firmly to her little brightly coloured basket clearly determined to do this on her own. It saddened the seraph woman a little that her help wasn't wanted and yet she supposed she;d have to get used to that. More and more Tezza was showing that even at an early age she was an independent one.

Of course even without Rinali beside her the girl had limited freedom, the hunting area was large but well marked so no one should get lost or leave it's boundaries. Tezza might not always be within her line of vision or within calling range but Rinali was sure she'd be safe.

Once she was given the signal to go Tezza along with a small hoarde of other toddlers raced forwards across the grounds in search of hidden plastic eggs that would be filled with treats. She was excited and determined to collect the most eggs becuase well.. she was just sure she could. Inky black eyes spotted one lightly rest into the gutter pie of one of the nearby gymnasium buildings and she scurried towards it hoping no one else had seen it. Really this was gonna be easy and then she would have a bunch of eggs and she'd share them with her mommy's and they'd be proud. At least that's how it all worked in the girl's mind.

Things however turned sour just a few minutes later when Tezza realized there was a lot of walking around in circles involved in hunting for eggs and it felt like she was never getting anywhere and it was getting boring. Despite seeing the markers that clearly stated where the end of the hunting area was Tezza walked past them, she wanted to go do something fun, also her basket had several eggs in it and being just a little toddler still her arms were getting

heavy even from that small load. Still Tezza was determined to do something, to go somewehere.. maybe if she climbed up high she could see a big patch of hidden eggs and then collect them or just stay up there watch all the other people scurrying around all silly like.

Once again the winged child's plans were disrupted though this time it was not her own fickle mind that could be blamed. Instead it was her kitty mommy Teisin. The white tigress, that belonged sort of to Czhichi, had appeared from as far as Tezza knew nowhere, in front of her and yet she had that look in her eyes that said she 'd been watching the girl the whole time. Tezza sort of liked that and sort of didn't, her kitty mommy was always there if she needed her but sometimes she thought she was never alone even if she couldn't see anybody around and that was sort of weird.

The purple haired girl held her basket out to the tigress " It's heavy, carry please?" It was ok to ask her kitty mommy for help becuase she wasn't a talking tiger like some talking animals she'd seen here. Nobody would know but them, she thought smiling as Teisin captured the handle of the basket in her mouth and lifted it from the child's hands, warm breath washed out over Tezza for a moment and ruffled the feathers on the girl's currently spread wings. " Thank you." Manners were important even with family.

Hands free and arms no longer tired Tezza looked back and forth between the grounds of the egg hunt which would still be on for a while and the rest of the grounds which would be filled with no one but her and Teisin and she could explore all she wanted. On the one hand she could collect whole bunches eggs if Teisin carried the basket and no one would know if they stayed hidden and just got the eggs at the edge of the marked zone. On the other there was the chance to explore unhindered by adult supervision and rules about what she could and couldn't touch. So much temptation for one small child.

Stretching her legs

Rinali nodded her head slowly half listening to the woman beside her chatter on about how her gym had treadmills for little kids and why couldn't her little stacey just walk there instead of outside where she was going to get god knew what on her clothes and shoes. The seraph had no idea why a child would need a treadmill to begin with, in her experience kids exercised outdoors becuase you encouraged them too or they didn't, asking a kid especially a toddler to walk on a moving surface that never went anywhere was just sort of weird to the redhead. Then again a lot of things were weird in her opinion. Giving another nod and murmuring that they'd talk more later Rinali lengthened her strides and moved a little further ahead in the pack of parents.

Since Tezza was truly one of those on the move and adventurous little girls Rinali joined up to some sort of outdoorsy trips for parents with toddlers group. It'd give Tezza a chance to meet other children while being outside and having fun. clearly though certain parents and by the looks of it certain children were not going to last through all ten trips, the great outdoors was not for everyone. At least today's trip was nice and fairly easy, a small hike along a fenced and marked trail to a picnic grounds set up on a plateau. The parents had been advised to brign strollers in case their children tired and while Tezza seemed to be happily tromping about kicking at pebbles and snapping fallen twigs Rinali was still happy she'd brought the girl's folding stroller becuase you never knew when a happy child became a tired grumpy one and Tezza was often unpredictable.

For her own part Tezza was happily walking along the trail a bit disappointed that it was fenced in so she couldn't wander at will but otherwise happy to be outside. Lillian a pretty fairy girl with rainbow hair was walking with her telling her about how her garden at him had mushrooms so big you could sit on them.

The purple haired girl was a bit jealous of that also her own home was pretty neat too. There was also a smidge of jealousy aimed at the other girls wings which while small like hers were unhindered in their movements and would be able to help the fairy girl fly some day. Tezza knew the ribbon threaded through her wings would never come out and she'd never fly. Although she really did like to climb so maybe she wouldn't be just as fast as a flying person but she could get just as high.

Inky black eyes spotted a white star shaped flow on the path up ahead and like a shot Tezza was off to collect it for her mother thinking it would look pretty in her hair. Tezza herself had a necklace of yellowy-green dandelion stems that Lillian's mom had made for her. The small girl wasn't quite good enough with hers small pudgy fingers yet to make them herself but she was gonna practice it a lot once they got home. Teisin would look really nice with a necklace of stems she was sure of it so clearly Tezza would need to make her one.

A few minutes later Tezza traded the flower to her mother for a juice box, which she promised to only through away in a garbage can when she was done it it, no littering. Her little legs were getting a bit tired but Tezza was stubborn and she was sure she could make the whole walk to the picnic place.

Despite her best effort Tezza ended up in her stroller before the walk was over and though she didn't mean too shortly after the very fun picnic lunch was done the young girl drifted off to sleep only to wake up once they were back at home. Still it had been really fun and Tezza couldn't wait for her next trip maybe she'd get Mr. Tal to let Zoe come next time, that'd make things ever better !.

Cave crawling

Armed with only a flashlight Rinali shot Veiera a small smile as the pair of mothers stood at the entrance of the Barton caves. It was the second of their groups trips though today was a bit more complicated at least on their parts, they actually had to navigate their way through the caves mapless. Supposedly it was more fun this way for parent and child and while Rinali was looking forward to the challenge she wasn't sure she liked the idea of getting stuck or lost and having to give up and teleport out.

She and Veiera, lillian's mother were teamed up as the entire group going in at once would be too hard so there's be about five minutes between each small team. The angelic woman supposed it wasn't too bad since their children got along and Veiera seemed nice enough.

Tezza glanced over her shoulder at her and Lillian's mother then peered into the inky back darkness was the caves, it was darker than her own eyes she thought. The girl grabbed Lillian's hand and pulled her a few feet into the cave, they weren't allowed to go very far from their moms here but Tezza was too independent to walk any closer to her mother, whom she did love, than she had to.

The purple haired child pressed the power button and the small flashlight in her left hand projected a muted golden beam of light onto the dark and dusty floor. There were hundreds of footprints in the dust and it was impossible to tell which ones were made when and by who. " Been lots of people here" she murmured, probably even more people than she's ever met in hr life.

Lillian nodded " and a lot more people will be coming for a long time"

That was sort of neat, Tezza wondered if the people behind her would see her footprints, how long they might last here.

However the allure of exploring the cave was fast fading as the tiny winged girl discovered that inside was mostly dust , bitter smelling air and cold rock. Tezza swung her flashlight beam left and right in a rhythmic pattern giving herself and Lillian the widest viewing area possible so they could see where they were going.

Occasionally she or Lillian would reach up and brush falling dust and dirt from their hair or clothes while their mothers talked about boring things behind them. Who was really interested in planting flowers or vegetables when they grew outside all by themselves.

" Why are there hanging rocks?" Lillian asked.

Tezza stopped and stared at the ceiling, Ok so there were lots of long hanging rocks pointed down at them, that didn't seem right. They should be more like the pointing up types on the ground. " Dunno"

" Those are stalactites, they hand tight to the roof of the the cave and the one are the ground are stalagmites that might one day reach the top." Rinali said softly , highly doubting Tezza would remember the information very long but pleased she could try and teach her something.

" Long names for long rocks" Tezza murmured, neat rocks too as long as they didn't trip her or fall on her.

A watched egg never cracks.

Tuesday June 30th
It was almost predictably humorous that the large tribal marked egg that the household had been caring for so well hatched when the house inhabitants were asleep. Tiny hairline fractures appeared on the shell that grew and became deep dark seams. The shell seemed to glow then for a moment before pieces of it fell away to reveal a small winged boy who's own bodily markings matched that of the egg he had come from.

The boy crawled away from the remains of his egg shaggy brown hair falling into his rich green eyes every now and again. The young songbird was a bit too unsteady to walk just yet.

Too young as well to understand the concept of a sliding door or why the glass in it showed him his reflection as well as the outside. For a time the boy just sat in front of the hard unmoving substance and stared at himself curiously. Each time his moved his orange and yellow wings his reflection did as well, it was quite fascinating to him. If he touched a white marking on his tanned skin his doppelganger followed, though on the other side for some reason. His beaded necklace with skull attached, the feathers and smaller skull in his hair, the loin cloth he wore. all of these were things the young child was better able to explore by watching through his reflection instead of just staring at himself. There was no vanity to be found here just an honest curiousness about the ones self.

So entranced was the boy that he never even noticed he was being snuck up on until he noticed the reflection of someone else in the door and turned to look at them.

" Hi" the purple haired girl , smiled and spoke to him, moved her hand in a gesture the hatching didn't understand but copied anyways.

" Hi" A word he didn't understand but also copied.

The girl giggled and suddenly the tan boy was being lifted into the girl's arms and held close to this strangers chest. " You can't sleep out here it's too cold. You can sleep with me I'm Tezza , you're sister." The boy didn't understand most of the words yet but the voice, he knew that voice from when he'd been inside his shell. he had heard her voice the most often and it was tezza who he saw first and ina way imprinted on. the still nameless boy didn;t know it yes but his imprinted was not to be his mother figure, still the girl with her braided hair and ribbon threaded wings was to be important in his life.

Once he was curled up in bed with his sister the small songbird closed his eyes and began to drift off to sleep listening to her talk. He had no idea what a kitty mommy or an el mommy was nevermind a mac'baht or a Zoe. Hiking and jogging and sports were things beyond his comprehension but he listened anyways as Tezza babbled to him in a soft voice. She wasn't quite keeping him awake but she was making his mind think as it tried to imagine what these things she walked about were. there was so much still he had to learn, an entire world to explore.

Exploring however would need to wait for morning. Things outside his egg were not quite as warm and cozy but the small brunet was tired
and the mattress beneath him was comfy, the blanket laid over him was soft and Tezza curled aroudn him was warms. He was not hungry and there was nothing anymore to catch his attention as his sister quieted down and prepared to sleep herself. though he had just been born the little one was not quite ready yet to take on the world. Tomorrow when the sun rose perhaps he would be ready.

Tezza lay in front of the tv watching a movie about some boy and his dog that played soccer, the purple haired girl thinking that when it came to animal movies it was always a boy and his dog and a girl and her horse, it was sort of weird and what was the word..sexist? Plus it made it seem like those were the only animals in the world.

Wren sat on the couch in his mother's lap, dark brown hair still damp from a recent bath and feathers being dried and preened by the angelic woman.Quiet by nature the young songbird didn't much mind the fussing in fact it made him smile.

Rinali let her eyes flick between the various members of her family as she worked, it was nice to have a quiet peaceful night like this.

Czhichi entered the room, smiling and waving to the others as she went to look over the pile of mail to see if anything came for her. Surprisingly, there was a letter, which she immediately opened and gasped at.

Rinali turned her head and looked careful at her lover " What's wrong?"

"I need to talk to you privately for a moment." she said gently.

The seraph nodded and stood after setting Wren down on the couch to sit alone, Tezza could watch him for a few minutes

Czhichi sighed, showing her lover into another room. "I got a letter from the angelic plane today."

Is everything alright?" Rinali wasn't sure any kind of good news could be coming from her home plain for the other woman

"Well, yes and no. My ex-mother-in-law, the one who was keeping my daughter, decided it was time to pass on. The rest of the family has no interest in custody of her so she's free to come live with us." the woman explained.

Rinali stared at Czhichi for a moment, this was.. this was great! Better than that really it was justice finally served. The angel wrapped the other woman in her arms and than wings.

Czhichi smiled and snuggled her. "I'm worried about the kids though. I'm afraid they might not like having her here since they were the only siblings and now she'll be here and a bit older."

Rinali though about that for a moment, Tezza was generally a friendly girl if independent and resistant to having to accommodate others unless there was something in it for her. Okay so she was a fairly typical little girl except for the obsessive climbing. Wren was fairly quiet though and seemed fairly accepting of everything he encountered including Mac taking food off his plate. " I think the kids will be fine, it will mostly be a matter of how we explains things to them." It wasn't as if they were replacing them by adding the girl to their family anymore than Wren had been a replacement for Tezza

"I know. I guess...I guess I'm just worried about how they'll react to me telling them. I'm not good at this."

The orange haired woman pressed a soft kiss to the other's lips " relax they're just kids they can't hurt you and I'll be right there"

Czhichi nodded, kissing her lover back and smiling.

" Go on now"

The tigress sighed and went out to the living room to sit on the couch. "Tezza, Wren, I need to talk to you." she said gently, taking the little boy to snuggle while she spoke. He tended to make her feel more content.

Tezza pulled herself into a sitting position and the braided girl turned to face her tiger mommy, Czhichi looked nervous so clearly this was important. She could always catch her movie on tv again later.

Wren fidgeted with his skull and bead necklace while looking up at the woman silently, curious about what was going to be said?

"You know how your angel mommy was married before she and I met and she had a kid then?" the woman asked, blushing.

Tezza nodded " Yeah, we see Pyran all the time." The redhead was full grown but he stopped by from time to time and didn't live all that far away to begin with so Tezza usually saw her brother of sorts at least twice a week.

Wren nodded as well and smiled, he liked Pyran, he was fun.

"Well, before we met, I was married too. It's a long story, but during that time, I had a little girl. When her father left me, his mother decided to take her away and wouldn't let me take care of her till certain conditions were met. Now her grandmother has died so I'm allowed to have her."

" Is she big like Pyran?" The idea of death seemed to have flown over Tezza's head, besides the grandmother was bad anyways, keeping one of her mothers from their girl. That was like Disney evil and some part of the girl assumed the woman deserved to die like villains did.

"No, she's little. Just a bit older than you are, Tezza."

Wren tapped on Czhichi's arm at that, seeking her attention but not quite sure what he wanted to say. He did want to meet this girl even if she left hims till the youngest but.. where would the girl go? If there wasn't enough room would he have to go away becuase he was the smallest? A strange fear and irrational but this was not a situation for which Wren knew what was supposed to happen and his young mind was filled with strange ideas.

Tezza just smiled " So we can go to school together in the fall and she's big enough to go climbing with?" For the inky eyed cabbage girl there was only excitement at the thought of having a sister, another girl in the house all the time " and we can have sleepovers with Zoe?" Which would of course be better with three people

Czhichi bounced the little boy and smiled at him before answering Tezza's questions. "Yes, though I don't know if she's been allowed much tree-climbing experience in the last few years. Her grandmother was very stuffy and considered such things unladylike. You'll have to show her how but if I remember my Wendy, she'll probably enjoy going climbing with you." the woman assured her daughter, "Sure, I think she'd love that. You and Zoe are the right age for her to play with."

The ribbon winged girl grinned " There's more to climb than just trees and Zoe can talk to her about trampolines." Why Zoe liked the things Tezza would never understand, certainly she'd seen people do amazing things on them but they just seemed so silly to Tezza.

Wren's green eyes flicked between Tezza, his mother and Czhichi, all girls, and Wendy was also female. It made him flaps his wings nervously to think that he and Mac were the only boys even Teisin was female. Not, of course that any of his family had ever shown him anything other than love.

The woman bounced him again. "Relax, Wren. It'll be okay." She assured him gently. "One day, I'm sure we'll end up with another boy so you can have a brother."

Rinali nodded to that and reached out to gently muss his hair, carefully to avoid catching her hands on the sections with beads or the miniature skull "We love all of you the same regardless of when you came into our lives and that includes Pyran" Her son from her first marriage was still very dear to the woman's heart " We just want you all to get along"

Czhichi nodded in agreement. "According to the letter, she should be arriving sometime either this evening or tomorrow."

" Where's she going to sleep?' Tezza asked curiously " She could share with me?" though the girl had already tried sharing her bed with Wren and that had ended in her rolling onto the poor boy and squishing him more than once until other arrangements had been made.

"Yes. I do believe we can probably get another bed to go in your room, or you two can just share. Since you two are about the same size, you'd be less likely to squish her."

Wren gave a soft giggle t that remembering being squished, still it had been nice to cuddle, until the squishing and it had been Tezza who had found him the night he hatched. His older sister was nice and Wendy .. " Is Wendy nice?"

"Yes, Wendy was a very sweet girl, at least last time I saw her. Though, given how not fond of her grandmother she was, I don't think that's changed."

Wren nodded at that ok as long as she was nice. Rinali smiled and reached out to squeeze czhichi's shoulder " See told you everything would be fine"

The woman grinned. About that time, there was a knock at the door.

Rinali stood and moved to go get it not wanting to disturb czhichi

At the door, was an older male seraph and a little girl who smiled and waved up at her. "Hey, just droppin the kidling off." the man said before departing.

Rinali frowned, who the hell just left a kid without checking to make sure she was with the right people and great notice they'd given mail was easily lost. still the woman smiled down at the little one " Hi there I'm Rinali , come in and meet everyone you're going to be living with"

Wendy smiled brightly up at the older lady. "Hihi Miss Rinali."

The Seraph smiled and reached down to lift the girl up and carry her into the house " Wendy's here" she called out softly hoping Tezza and Wren were nice without being smothering. She supposed she ought to include herself in that, she could be that way around little ones.

Czhichi looked up and smiled, bouncing Wren again. "That's good. Tezza, why don't you go give your sister a hug?" she said, standing to carry the boy over.

Tezza nodded and bounced over to the other girl wrapped her in a tight hug " I'm Tezza, I came from a cabbage" she gestured to Wren " That's our brother Wren he came from an egg Zoe and I found"

Wendy grinned, hugging the other girl and wrapping her tail around her. "I'm Wend-Gwendolyn." she said, the last bit she blushed on and seemed to pout a bit.

"You're Wendy." Czhichi repeated with a smile, bringing Wren over for a hug too.

" Genwnedy?" Now Wren was just plain confused, who was the girl?

Wendy sighed. "My name is Wendy but my grandmother said it wasn't a dignified name so she said I have to go by Gwendolyn."

Tezza rolled her eyes and shook her head " Wendy, like the smart girl in the peter pan movie"

"Yeah." the girl agreed with a nod.

Wren smiled from where he was being held and flapped his wings a little while waving, Wendy did seem nice.

The tiger girl flapped her wings a little in response. "Cute." she giggled before turning back to Tezza and smiling. "What do you like to do?"

" I climb and play soccer and explore" the purple haired girl grinned " and and you're sleeping in my room becuase you're too big to squish" she explained

The other laughed and nodded. "Okay." she agreed before looking puzzled. "Those things sound fun but I've not done much of them."

" It's ok" Rinali said softly and she moved to fuss with the girls wings " you'll have time to try them and anything you want from now on." Well maybe not anything but close.

The girl smiled. She thought she was gonna like this family a lot.

Czhichi smiled. "How about we all go spend some time with Teisin and the kittens? I'm sure they feel lonely."

Both Tezza and Wren smiled at that, nothing was better than little fuzzy babies the tigress had had only a fortnight ago. They were so lucky to live here and that Czhichi was the CDL animal trainer.

The woman showed them into the room where the tigress and her four cubs were. The creature purred a little at seeing them. She missed company.

The small winged Tezza moved over to curl by the tigress' head and pet her " love you kitty mommy" she knew the tigers name but she'd always referred to her as this ever since she was small like Wren.

Teisin purred and licked the girl's cheek, settling her head lightly in her lap.

Rinali smiled softly as she watched this, really this was how things were meant to be, they might be a bit rocky while everyone adjusted to having Wendy around but for now things seemed to be going as normal as possible.

Czhichi put Wren down on the bed near the kittens. They'd newly opened their eyes and one came over to sniff at and nuzzle up to the boy.

The dark skinned child remained very quiet and still just in case moving prompted any of them to try and bite him, combined they liked outweighed and out powered the young songbird

"You can pet him." Czhichi assured the boy, turning to Rinali and indicating the woman should put Wendy down. The little girl seemed to be itching to see the cubs.

The orange haired seraph nodded and released the girl , it was of no surprise to her that the sub were by far the most popular ones in the room, although Tezza was as always more attached to their mother

Wendy lightly pat Teisin's belly before picking up one of the babies to snuggle. She was Czhichi's daughter, as was Tezza (and Wren a son) and provided they behaved, were deemed safe enough for the mother to let them handle her children. Particularly since Czhichi was watching.

The tiger woman smiled, reaching down to pick up a third cub and smile at her lover. "Rinali, do you want to hold one?"

Tezza just curled with her Kitty mommy and tapped a bright eyed cub on the nose" i bet you train a lot easier than mac" she murmured softly though she did think fondly of her pet and partner in travels.that and teisin's babies were too small to train and it was not her job.

Wren was content to pet the cub nearest to him but was still fairly nervous perhaps natural instinct for a bird.

She shook her head nad made her earrings jingle " no desire to lose an ear today" perhaps another day when she remembered to take her earrings out first.

Czhichi laughed. "Taking your earrings out would take less than a minute." the woman said softly.

The cub Tezza'd tapped whined and moved into her lap, seeing as that was closer to it's mother. The one in Wren's lap, however, just purred.

Tezza just smiled and reached out to scratch behind it's ears. The cabbage born girl was happy, she was with her family, which seemed to be always growing, and everyone in it was happy

" Tch but then I'm not musical" Rinali mock protested as she removed the earrings and pocketed them " Alright hand it over"

Czhichi laughed and gave her the baby to snuggle. The little one promptly leaned up to lick her.

The angel laughed softly "I am not a source of food" she teased softly " and I probably taste like sweat." She'd been busy all day and still needed to shower.

Czhichi smiled. A while longer of playing with the cubs and Teisin and it was time to let them rest. "Okay, everyone out."

Tezza sighed and grumbled, she missed snuggle with teisin, still she had new babies now to spend time with. Wren gave a small squeak as his sister picked him up out of nowhere to carry him and Rinali just shook her head and held tighter to the cub in her arms " but I wanna keep him.. or her"

"He needs to be with his Mommy right now. Put your earrings back on. We can visit again tomorrow."

" Who will I cuddle" The angel teased and rubbed her nose with the cub's, gods but she could be so juvenile sometimes, still it was hard to resist doing/

"Maybe if you're good we can stage a little sleepover in here. I know Teisin misses seeing people and you guys don't seem to want to leave."

Wren pointed to Tezza " squishing" he warned, not that he was being squished but that the girl rolled and cubs were small. Them getting squished would be bad.

"We could set her up on the floor between myself and Wendy to keep her from rolling." The tigress suggested.

Rinali grinned it looked like tonight really was going to be interesting.

The woman smiled, walking over to hug Rinali and take the cub. "You guys go get sleeping bags and such."

Rinali nodded taking Tezza and Wren, leaving Wendy alone with her mother in case they needed to talk.

Wendy smiled, helping her mother arrange the kittens and Teisin so the whole family could have room in here.

A few minutes later the trio returned with everything they could possibly need for the night.

Czhichi grinned, helping them set up. "Tezza, hon, would you like to call Zoe and see if she'd like to join us?"

Tezza looked thoughtful for a moment then shook her head " not tonight" tonight was just for them for her family, tomorrow she's take Wendy to see Tezza " Oh and I can't find Mac I think he's escaped again" he always came back but the macbaht seemed to wander at will no matter how she locked him up

"That's all right. He's Mac, he always comes back." Czhichi assured her, patting the girl's shoulder. "You guys curl up. I need to drag your Mommy out here to help me bring the TV in so we can all watch movies and then I'll order pizza and make us snacks."

A squirming Mac, recovered from behind the fridge, in her arms Tezza set off through the house looking for her new sibling. The braided girl wanted to introduce Wendy to some of the other children on the grounds including her best friend Zoe and Oliver the goalie on her soccer team.

Wendy was presently seated in her room, putting on a new pair of overalls her mother had bought her and putting her hair in a ponytail. "Oh! Hey Tez!"

Tezza smiled " Hey are you ready to come out and meet Zoe and Oliver?"
Mac rolled his eyes forward and stared at the catgirl intently for a moment.

"Sure." the girl said cheerily, waving her tail and going over to pet the creature in her sister's arms. "Cuteeeeeee."

Mac made a small noise in his throat and flicked his long chameleon like tongue out to lick the girl's nose.

" Mac does that sometimes" Tezza warned a little too late " He doesn't train very well but I'm trying." Mostly the purple furred creature tended to listen only to adults and even then there were time he ignored them outright in favour of what he was already doing.

The other child giggled and smiled. "He's cute."

" He's weird but I love him" Tezza affirmed before asking another question " Where's Wren? We're taking him with us becuase he needs to see people more" in the girl's opinion her brother was too quiet and needed friends. Plus in a way he was still sort of Zoe's as well so she deserved to see him too.

"Last I saw him, he was with Mommy." The girl replied, blinking.

The purple haired girl nodded " Ok well lets go find them and then we can get going." Whether or not mac made the trip would be decided based on how much longer he tolerated being held

Czhichi was in the other room, feeding Teisin and bouncing Wren now and then. She was trying to get the boy more comfortable with the tigress and her cubs.

The green eyed songbird smiled and fluttered his wings on occasion, he looked up slowly when his older siblings walked into the room

Czhichi glanced up. "Oh, hey girls. What's up?"

" We're going to see Zoe and then Oliver" Tezza explained " Wendy needs to meet them ' it was most important that her sister meet these two, couldn't possibly be put off any longer. " And we're out of chocolate milk syrup again"

"All right. I will get some while I'm at the store again. Are you taking Wren?"

Tezza nodded and smiled over at her brother " Yeah he needs friends." Family was important too but you needed to have friends and thus far Wren didn't actually have any.

Wren made small noise at that and reached out to pet Teisen while smiling, she was his friend even if she was a bit scary to him on an instinctual level.

The older tiger leaned up to lick his hand before Czhichi carried him over to his sisters. "All right. have a good time."

Tezza nodded and picked the toddler up, Mac having escaped her arms just moments earlier, despite his protests that he could walk " We will we'll be careful too." The girl promised before carrying Her brother out of the room and motioning with a small wing for Wendy to follow.

Wendy grinned and followed after, excited to meet kids her own age.

Tezza lead the group out of the house and across the ground towards where Zoe lived. Zoe being her best friend had to be the first stop for them. Wren gave a soft sigh and rested his head on her chest, fiddling with the beads on his necklace as he was carried

The tiger girl followed along quickly with her sister, occasionally reaching out to pat his head.

Once they go to the other girls home Tezza adjusted the way she was holding wren and then rung the doorbell. Zoe should be home or at least Tezza hoped she would be

The door was opened by Allen, who smiled pleasantly down at them. "Ah, the other half of the deadly duo." he said cheerily, letting them in.

Tezza smiled back " Hi Mr. Allen , this is Wendy my bigger sister" she explained as she pointed at the catgirl whom had arrived the night before. " I wanted Zoe to meet her.

Wren waved at the man once they were inside he liked Allen and that he wore costume makeup like how Wren himself had special markings on his body, though his did not come off with water

"Hello Wendy. And hello there Wren." he said cheerily, waving to the two.

Wendy grinned and waved as well.

Allen smiled, showing them in. "I was hoping you'd come over. I have a special job for you kids I was waiting to tell Zoe about till you got here."

" Job?" Wren spoke up quietly, jobs were for grown ups of which he was most certainly not

"Yep. Not full time, don't worry, Wren. Just something I need you guys to do." he explained, leading them to Zoe's door so he could knock on it.
"Hey, squirt, your friends are here."

"mmsleeping" Zoe mumbled, the way the sun came in her window it kept the girl warm and cozy under her covers and she wasn't quiet ready to get up yet

"Tezza brought someone to introduce you to and I have a job for you." he replied. "Anyway, are you at least decent? Cause I'll let them in so you don't have to get out of bed if you are."

" Ew why would I be naked?"

"Because you fell asleep after a shower or cause it was too warm for clothes? How would I know. I'm not in there, now am I?" he pointed out, opening the door. "Maybe you were hanging out with Shylock too long and you decided to become a nudist." he teased

Zoe sat up and stuck her tongue out at the man as he opened the door " Shylock is weird" Nice enough but weird and not in a horribly interesting way either.

Tezza laughed at that and grinned over at her best friend " Yes he is but he's a boy and they're always weird" She hugged Wren tight then so he'd know she loved him anyways.

The brown haired boy imply pointed over to his now oldest sister " Wendy" he was capable of introducing people too

Wendy smiled and waved a bit at the other girl. "Hello."

The auburn haired girl looked the newcomer over carefully, well Wendy was certainly interesting to look at if nothing else and she was brought here by Tezza so she must be fairly nice to be around " Hi" she smiled softly as she spoke. Zoe could be friendly , at least until she got bored
Allen leaned on the doorframe lightly, "When you are ready to hear it, your highness, I have a job for you and your friends to do."

Zoe stuck her tongue out again " tell me now" she mock ordered

"Cirque is doing a benefit show that's going to be performed for sick children from a bunch of local hospitals and many orphanages, as well as just being generally open for locals and their children. I want you guys to help Pazquel and Quetzel in their designs."

Tezza, Wren and Zoe all turned their heads to stare at Allen, them? He wanted their help with something so important?

The man smiled. "Yes, yes I do want your help. You are kids and you're all creative. Paz and Quetz could use your help coming up with things kids would like."

Zoe nodded first " Okay, we can do it and it'll be the most interesting stuff ever" becuase really Zoe did not do boring. Ever

Wren giggled at that " I'll help" He didn't much know how useful he'd be becuase he seemed to see things differently than the girls but he'd try at least.

Tezza grabbed Wendys hand and squeezed it " Yeah us too we can certainly be really helpful." Surely with all of them they could make great designs.

Wendy nodded a bit, smiling broadly.

"All right. You might want to grab some of the other local kids, like maybe some of Pyran's or Kyin's or whoever's for help. We have a lot to work with here and different kids will have different tastes so having a bunch of opinions could help."

Zoe gave Allen a look that clearly said she didn't trust the taste or opinions of other children beyond those currently in the room and even then she was likely to try and ignore or override them

Allen gave her a look in response. "You are not the head of the show, Zoe, and you are to remember this. Just because you don't like something or find it boring doesn't mean other children will too. You don't have the final say and if you become too pushy or try to put yourself too forward, I'll take you completely off the job." he said calmly.

Zoe stared at the ceiling for a moment before mumbling an ok.

The man smiled. "All right then. You can head over and see Paz and Quetz at their studio. And remember, the warning to Zoe goes for all of you - this is to be a group effort and no one person is in charge."

Tezza nodded " Kay" being in charge was not exactly in her plans as it was simply working well in a group was the girls goal, she realized at least a little that like Zoe she sometimes didn't much like having to bend to seeing things another's way. But she had to try and work with everyone today and she didn't want Wendy to think she was mean.

Wren tucked his orange and pale yellow wings to his back and nodded sharply , the green eyed boy was not exactly the bossy type.

Wendy smiled. "This sounds fun. I've never helped design things before. I wonder what all they'll let us do."

Zoe shrugged as she slipped clothes on over her night gown then pulled it out, fully changed without having to get naked " I'm sure there's lots of stuff, there's always lots of stuff and" the auburn haired girl grinned at that. really she lived the the most least boring place in the world.

Outside, Allen was waiting to escort the group over to see Paz and Quetz. "You guys ready to go?"

Everyone nodded " Yes"

"All right. This way then. I warn you all before we go, that this is your last chance to back out. This is going to be a LOT of work from you guys and you won't be allowed to just drop out in the middle. Please note, needing to be forcibly removed is still possible however, it will be at a cost to the show and to those who have to make up for that lack of a person, so I suggest you all remember to try and keep at least on semi-good behavior." he gave them the little manditory explanation as they walked towards the building the two designers were to be at. "you guys get to do a lot of work here and will be meeting and helping a lot of people."

" I'm small" Wren pointed out, though at least he was walking under his own power at the moment. He wanted to help becuase doing things for sick people was good but the more Allen talked the more the little songbird was unsure how much use he'd be.

"That's all right. A small kid's help can be just as useful as a big kid's help at times. We need to know things you and some other's your age might like too. You'll probably have less work to do but you'll still have a lot to do." the man explained.

The young boy smiled at that, as long as he was useful then

Inside of the studio, Pazquel - a tall woman with multicolored pigtails that even while on top of her head hung past her knees, and a set of pointy edged glasses - greeted them. "Hey all!" she said cheerily. "This the first batch of youngin's for the design teams?"

The group nodded and smiled, prepared to be as helpful as they could, Zoe tucking her hair into her shirt realizing she wasn't going to want it in her way.

The woman stretched a bit. "Well, gals and little guy, we have a particular plan for a few parts of the show, but other than that, it's mostly all up in the air. We want to keep groups working on things small, so you guys are going to be in smaller groups and you guys will each be helping on one show or two."
