kandie_kissies Not right now, but I was for our Vet.'s Day concert. I was fifth chair, and the girl in first chair played NONE OF THE RHYTHMS CORRECTLY for our piece that we were being judged on! scream You aren't a bunny
Sometimes I get that from my first.
Unless you're me.

Last year the first chair flute was a 9th grader, who beat out two other 9th graders. The two that got 2nd and 3rd chair harassed her and trash talked her and stuff, until it got so bad that she gave up 1st chair and gave it to one of the girls that didn't deserve it.

/I'm/ fairly seated. But I know some people who aren't. My directors are terrible about favoritism >,<

I am totally good with my seating, skill wise. I am 4th chair officially, but in concert, I sit inbetween the third chair, who sits in the first chair position, and the second chair, who sits in the third chair position. I sit in the second char position, even though first chair sits in fourth.
Skill wise, I'm perfect. I am the worst of the best, or, if you want to be optimistic, I am the best of the worst.
I call myself the worst of the best because I am in the good lesson group. =]

I am ok with my seating, if only 3 and 1st got a long. they Hate each other and I'm always on one side of it or in the middle of it.... and 1st flute's such a b***h to anyone below her and she can barely play high F, so... Yeah.. but I guess it's kind of fair because I play piccolo too...

Ugh. Definetely. I'm freakin' last chair all because I told the band director that I didn't want to try out for All-Valley this year because I had too much stuff going on in my life and he took it out on me by putting me last in our only chair test of the year. He's such a douche that way. I should AT LEAST be fourth or fifth chair...

I only consider myself unfairly seated because there is only 2 bassists (including me) so my Teacher doesn't put us in any order! I should totally be first chair, having played since I was 11 (I'm 15), and this is the other guy is on his second year! We do these 2 compitions every year, playing with another school, and because we don't have "pre-assigned" seats, I'm stuck in the BACK because I'm really tall, and he gets 2nd chair! scream I should be first!

Yes!!! its so unfair!!!! the only reason our second horn is second (and sometimes 1st) is because he's a senior! He's good at sight reading and playing high but thats it. He's terrible! his tone is bad, he's always out of tune, he can't play low, and sometimes it sounds like he's playing stopped!!!!!!!! The worst part is, is he can't play soft! He constantly blasts everything!!!!! He's the nicest guy, but I can't wait till he graduates so maybe my ears will heal.

I wouldn't call it unfair...but I don't like it. The other oboe has horrible tone quality, intonation, and can't count, but she can get everything under her fingers faster than I can. But when I CAN play something, I've been told that I play it really well. So I just wish I could have some of those solos...my director gave me one that has cues in my music instead of to her because she likes my tone a lot better.
I'm just gonna try hard next year, and see how I do. I'm fine with having second part for now- I haven't even been playing a year yet.

I'm overly fairly seated. After a week of playing trumpet I was second chair to all the people who had been playing for a year. I was expecting fourth through last and I practiced and got second. The rest of them were bad! And in my symphonic band I slaughtered everyone on the test and I can by far play the lowest. Me-117, Second -94.

I'm 3rd chair clarinet out of four, but I'm supposed to be second, and I'm almost the same level as our first. My clari had a leak on our last chair tests, so the really low notes sounded crappeh. But I remember this one time in 6th grade when we were first learning the upper octave and were playing the middle of the staff C and B, only like, three clari's could play it (including me) and I got 6TH CHAIR OUT OF 8 CLARINETS!! I shoulda got third chair, considering I was the newest clarinet (i had just changed from oboe about a month or so before that) So, I have before, and I sorta am now... OOH! And tomorrow Ms. First Chair and I are playing with the upper band (ms. 2nd chair doesn't even really like band) at UIL, I AM SOO EXCITED!! WISH ME LUCK!!

i'm fairly seated but the third chair clarinet completely SUCKS and the six others behind her are so much better, but just because she's older she's not last chair where she should be

Ha! It's too easy for me, I'm the first trombone out of one. (well, except for that bass guitar, who is technically part of my section, but he just started so he's easy to beat.)
