Josh shrugged, he agreed with Nattie in a way. He didn't see why it had to be difficult for grown-ups to admit they liked each other. Though, it was hard for him to admit he liked Nattie.. He supposed he could understand that.

He looked at Ginger and smiled. "Are you still my captain?" He asked. "You're very good at finding treasure."

Ginger grinned. "'Course I am!" she said, smiling. "I'm sure we find lots of treasures today." By "treasures", she meant loose change under the couch.

Nataya grinned as they walked up the pathway to the house. "We're here." she said, smiling brightly as she opened the door, letting the toddlers run in first before stepping inside as well. She dropped her back pack off near the staircase, waiting so she could show Josh where to put his. She looked to the twins, who were already making their way to the kitchen, probably to say hi to Momma or something.

Josh smiled as he recgonized the house. He'd only been there once before, and that had been a while back. Before the trip to the mall, even. He followed Nataya inside, and took a look around. "Think I should give this to your mom now, or later?" He asked.

Nataya thought a moment, then smiled. "Why not now? So we don't forget to give it to her later." she said, smiling. Also, why wait to make someone happy and smiling? "I can't wait to see the look on Momma's face." She let out a small giggle; she was sure Momma was going to love the gift!

The twins had already run over to their mother, showing off the pictures they'd drawn in daycare.

Josh smiled and pulled the necklace out of his pocket. "Nattie's Mom, I have a present for you!" He called, walking down the hall towards the twins and their mother. He showed it to her. "Uncle Vate wanted me to give this to you." He said.

He hoped she'd like it. If she didn't, he didn't know what Vate would do.

Stasia looked up from the crayon drawing she'd just been handed, looking at the necklace Josh held out. "Thank you, Josh..." she said, taking it. It was beautiful, but...why didn't Vate give it to her in person? Ah, well, he must have had his reasons.

Nataya was already at the kitchen table, getting her homework out of her folder. The sooner they got started, the sooner they'd be finished and the sooner they could play.

Josh handed Stasia a folded up piece of paper before going to join Nattie at the kitchen table. The once folded neatly but now very crumpled from being in an active boy's pocket. Once opened, the note read, that was if Stasia could actually read Vate's rather sloppy and loopy handwriting;

Stasia,

I hope you like the gift. I apologize for not being able to give it to you myself. Meet me at the Peaceful Kitchen Saturday. I have something for you.

Love, Vate

Obviously the note had been written in haste. "So we're doing math first?" Josh asked, tilting his head slightly.

Stasia, after a few minutes of reading, managed to decipher the note. The Peaceful Kitchen? Well, she had to work that day anyways, since she was picking up another girl's shift while she went to a family gathering. The meeting place was convenient. She tucked the note into her pocket before going back to looking at the pictures Ginger and Zemel had drawn that day.

Nataya smiled, nodding. "Yeah, math first." she said. She looked over the paper; to be honest, it was fairly simple. To a normal student, that is. To her, the numbers just appeared to be a garbled mess; numbers and symbols with a few words slapped upon the paper without any rhyme or reason she could decipher. This was going to be hard. Then again, it was like this every night. It was a miracle she even managed to get a passing grade in that class. A small frown tugged at the corners of her mouth as she tried to make sense of the first question.

Josh took out his homework, and started to work on his math assignment. There were only ten problems, not even times-tables. He looked over at Nattie, and noticed her frown. "Need help?" He asked with a tilt of his head. His mother had shown him a way to do math, a way that made it fun.

Maybe Nattie didn't know the trick yet. He could show her how if she didn't.

Nataya looked up, nodding once. "Yeah..." she said, her tone soft. How anyone could understand this was beyond her. How anyone could make it fun...well, she thought that was down right impossible. She let out a sigh, sitting away from her paper. "It doesn't make sense." she said, looking down at the evil assignment as it sat there.

Joshua moved closer to Nattie so he could see her paper. "Mom taught me a way to count, want to see?" He showed her his hand. "I can count to nine with each hand. Watch." He counted each finger, and the space between.

"Nine. It helps when you do math, because you can always count to however high you need to go." He smiled at her, hoping this would help.

Nataya offered a small smile in return. The trick helped a little, but not all that much. "Thanks, Josh." she said, looking down at her paper. After a couple minutes of struggling and counting, she managed to get the first question answered. The trick did help; usually, she would have taken longer, so it definately helped to expedite the process. Still, she felt a little guilty; she was taking much too long.

"Sorry." she said, offering an apologetic smile. At this rate, she was sure they wouldn't have time to play or anything.

Joshua was reminded of his mother. When it came to math, she wasn't very good at it. She used every trick in the book to cheat. "Here, let me help." He said, writing out a number chart for her on a piece of lined paper. "See. Dad taught me a different way."

He drew one apple, left a space, then two, three, all the way up to ten. "See, sometimes numbers are difficult to understand. But if you think of them like apples, you can count faster."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 22, 2009 1:34 pm

Nataya nodded, watching and listening to his explaination. It made a bit more sense than just the numbers alone. "I think I get it now. Thank you." she said, looking at the paper. She picked up her pencil, starting to answer the questions. The apples did help quite a bit; things were definately moving at a faster pace now. She managed to finish her homework in half the time it would have usually taken her to finish it half-way.

"On to the sketchbook assignment, right?" she asked, putting her math homework back into her folder and pulling out her sketchbook. "I have some paints and old magazines we could use for it up in my room, and I'm sure we could ask Momma for some scissors and glue."

Joshua smiled as he watched his friend finish her math homework. "Sure! I'm not very good at art though.." He frowned slightly. It took a lot for him to admit he was bad at something. Especially when it looked so simple when other people did it. "You won't mind helping me?"
