Lysander laughed. "You think so?" He watched as the first few pairs started on the course. It would be a little bit before they got going. There was time for a little chat. He eyed Emi mischievously. "How about a bet, my overconfident friend?" The fact that this person was female hadn't escaped his attention. Friend or not, she would not go through her academy days without having been subject to his perversion. Of course, he would have to get her to agree to the bet before terms were made. He couldn't have her dropping out of it too soon.

Emi mental slapped herself for being a bit too confident. She had got to learn to stop doing that so often. "I have a very bad feeling that if I agree it will be something perverted. Even so, I agree. I gotta learn my lesson sometime. Might as well be now and not from Adrian." Emi wasn't proud of herself to agree to the bet. "So Lysander, what did you have in mind?" she asked. Please let it be not so bad. Please! Emi begged the heavens in her mind.

"Let me think." Lysander put a finger to his lips in thought. "I'd hate to put a lady in an awkward situation." And what an awful lie came from those thoughts. He tapped his foot lightly against the ground, an uncomfortable amount of snow finding its way into his boot in the process. He looked up, eyeing the clouds for ideas. They all just looked like blobs to him. Big white blobs. As if the idea of blobby white things gave him an idea, he turned his head back to Emi. "If I win, you give me a kiss." Lysander tapped his bottom lip, smirking. Overconfidence and an unhealthy experience in the matter said that he could get one either way, but what could be more fun than beating the girl at her own game? Well, plenty of other things, but nothing that he was going to suggest. "Name your terms," Lysander added playfully.

Emi had to stop herself from yelling out loud. After all, she didn't want anyone staring. Especially not the Drill Sargent. That would just be horrible. What would be worse is if someone was over hearing their conversation.

Now she really hated herself. She would make sure to hit herself when she got back to her dorm room. "Fine, my terms are that if I will you can't make anymore of these bets." She knew she was going to have a hard time getting out of this situation. Gently she shook her feet so that the snow on her shoe fell off. She trembled slightly. It was getting a bit colder with the breeze.

"Yes, I'm ready for our turn to come," Lyra said as she looked past Keeva to check how many pairs were before them. "Ah, and my name's Lyra...Belnades."

Virginia Poe stood calmly in the very back, her hands clasped behind her, quietly watching the groups who were already on the course. She was carefully calculating where exactly she'd have the most difficulties, and watching those who went through those obstacles, either noting the techniques they used to do well or trying to learn from their mistakes.

"Lyra?" Keeva thought about this for a moment. "Right. Well, Ghost-girl, just be ready for our turn."

Staring hard at the other recruits going through the course, Keeva had a sudden shiver. Those HEIGHTS again. She gritted her teeth; she wouldn't fail just because she didn't like to climb. Bottoms up, grin and bare it, and all that jazz. She inched closer to the starting line, cutting in front of a pair of nervous looking recruits in front of her. Motioning Lyra to do the same, she made her way in front of another pair. Waiting was something Keeva prefered not to do.

Lysander nodded. "Sure, sure." He said it indifferently, as if he hadn't even recognized the possibility that she could win. Having sparred with her, he knew what her skills and weaknesses were. She would know the same of him. They would both know when they would be able to slow down without fear of the other overtaking them. A tie was likely.

Sufficiently motivated, he got ready for the coming race. Some pair had cut in front of them (?), but he was okay with it. It would just give him more time to prepare.

Emi started to stretch. The cold was starting to make her stiff. If she was stiff when they started she would have a good chance of losing. She didn't want that to happen. She didn't care if they tied but she was sure to hurt somebody if she lost.

Lyra nervously followed Keeva, and in doing so was cutting in front of other pairs. She wanted to apologize, but she didn't want to fall to far behind her partner; instead, she avoided looking the other kids in the face. Then Lyra stopped just in time to avoid bumping into Keeva.

(OoC: Just posting to let Sweet Sweet Dreams know that Keeva is no longer a recruit. Really sorry! I can't do the course with you. <3 Good luck!)

Virginia had determined the best way for her to go through the course... Lightly on her toes for the tire run, taking advantage of her abnormally long legs, jumping for the shelf mount, using her hands to aid in getting on if she had too, using her natural sense of balance where needed. The difficulty was the jumps... She secretly had a crippling fear of falling, which is what gave her such an incredible sense of balance. Jumping through the tires, off the balance beam, off the climbing wall... It would all be quite difficult for her to make herself do.

"Well, this could be difficult," she said to herself with a sigh, trying to mentally prepare herself for it so she wouldn't pause in fear. That would be embarrassing...

Seeing she got no response from the person she was hailing, she looked around at all the other participants. She wasn't sure she would be allowed to run the course alone....but who could she partner up with?

Seeing others stretching, she decided it was a good idea. All the while she kept her eye out for anyone without a partner, wondering if she was going to be partnered at random by the Drill Sergeant if she didn't find one. She didn't want anything to stop her from completing the course.

((Sorry Yaruka... I've been grounded and it's been ridiculously hard to get online... *still is...*))

Kaela flinched, realizing people had started and someone had actually spoken to her while she was lost in thought. Face burning, she gave a tiny, tremulous smile. "I'm so sorry...I failed to hear you." Stupid, stupid, worthless, good-for-nothing... she heard her brother's voice, taunting and lilting, in her head. It was the past, she knew, and her own imagination, but the words were enough to drag a little whimper from her.

With Russell sick, Chehero graduated, and Keiran...she hadn't seen him in a while... she found herself again alone and isolated. With so many others around, feeling lonely was a desolate sort of feeling. Little did she realize the progress she had made, just by missing people. After just a few months with people, she was beginning to rely on friendships more.... Mustering a bit of courage, she walked over the the girl who'd spoken to her. "I'd be glad to run the course with you...I've done it before, have you?"

((uberlamepost...I have a dentist's appointment today I didn't even know about and my mom's bugging me to get off the computer...))

((Totally kosher, Els. ^_^))

Eyebrows raised as the girl she had addressed earlier finally responded to her. Angel smiled a grateful smile, glad to have a partner. She didn't want to face the Drill Sergeant's possibly pedantic lecture about the importance of partners and teams in battle. She noticed the girl had flinched and seemed to be quite fearful. Her ponderings were kept to herself, leaving on a gentle smile.

"It's okay," She tried to reassure her, "Yeah, I've done it before. The tires were what got me....and my ankles." She chuckled a bit, trying to make the air a little easier. "My name is Angel, by the way. And don't worry....we'll make it through. I won't leave you behind."

The promise seemed casual, but she intended to keep it.
