Kira looked up with the first real smile she had had in weeks. "Thank you Professor. I think I had better call my parents once my cell phone charges. They'll want to talk to me anyway, but if you need to speak with them about logistics or something I'm sure they'll be happy to hear from someone at the school."
Her face became thoughtful as she looked towards the door, "Who is Kitty?" She said in an afterthought. The relief of finding this place and the people acting the way they were was making her dizzy, or maybe that was just the lack of food, she really wasn't sure anymore.

Not far from the Xavier Institute, Owen ran as fast as his worn-out sneakers could go, dodging between surprised people on the sidewalk, clutching a bag of potato chips. Behind him, he could hear the shouts and pounding feet of the three enormous teenage boys chasing him down, knocking down the passers-by that he had dodged moments before. "We're gonna get you, you little freak!" one of them shouted. Despite the urgency of the situation, Owen couldn't help but wonder how the tub of guts had enough breath left to threaten him. He dashed into an alley and crouched down behind a pile of trash, squeezed his eyes shut and held his breath, knowing what would happen. Sure enough, he heard the thundering footsteps stop at the entrance to the alley, and he could almost see the perplexed looks on each face as they searched in vain for him. "Where'd he go?" he heard one of then say. "Probably in the sewer with the rest of the s***," he heard another one say. "So much for your bag of chips, Nate." He slowly let out his breath as he heard them leave, and he poked his tousled head out of the alley entrance just to be sure. Seeing nothing but a few folks out for a stroll, Owen walked casually out of the alley, cracking open the pilfered bag of chips. Stupid idiots, he thought to himself as he munched, probably ate every day.

{Sorry, I'm gonna autopilot your character for a minute, Kiara. I'm not going to be on again until noon or so tomorrow, and I don't want to leave Kira hanging there waiting for me to respond.}
"Hi! You must be the new girl," exclaimed the unmistakably bubbly voice of one Kitty Pryde, as she came phasing out through a wall. "I'm Kitty," she said, smiling cheerfully. "Oh, wow. You're totally, like, soaked! Come on, Ill show you where you can put your stuff and dry off!" she exclaimed, motioning for the girl to follow her.
Kitty led the girl up the stairs, and off towards the left. "The left leads to the girls' dormitories, the right is the boys'. You'll be staying in my room until they fix one up for you, okay?" she explained, smiling brightly. It would take more than gloomy weather to offset Kitty's seemingly perpetual good mood. Within moments, they'd arrived at Kitty's room, which, not surprisingly, was decorated mostly in pink.
"You can just drop your stuff by the bed, 'kay? Sorry if I don't have time to give you a tour of the rest of the mansion, but I've got some stuff to organize for school, so I'm off to, like, track down my lab partner. See you later, okay?" Kitty said, and phased straight down through the floor.

(Its cool, I'll be out too.)
Kira could only blink as a girl around her own age slid through a wall, perhaps if she was a little more alert or in a different place this would have stood out to her, but at that particular moment it really didn't seem too odd and the girls cheery attitude was absoulutely contagious. She smiled in thanks to the professor and followed the girl up the stairs to the rooms.
"Thanks, my name is Kira by the way." She shouted after the phasing the girl. Kira looked around the room with a contented sigh, this was much better then a park bench or the ground. After plugging in her phone, Kira took a quick shower and changed, reveling in just being clean again. After a long debate about sleep and food, food won out and Kira headed downstairs to find the Kitchen, after all she had to see this place eventually.

Valerie took her face away from the pane of glass her cheek a lighter shade from the lack of bloodflow to the pressed area and turned her thin body to slump down on the sofa, she reached down and pulled up her legwarmers so they were fully upto her knees, she took an inhalation of breathe as if she were going to go through the whole list of things that bugged her from the lack of bright sun to the sea being too cold for her, She decided to settle on the main problem on her mind.
"thats the problem....theres nothing going on!"
She slumped down a little more so her rear was just about balancing on the end of the seat of the sofa looking like a downtrodden teen who had just been told off, she might have found most of the Brotherhood annoying but she liked having their company some times. Mizu giggled slightly as Kara's tail wrapped around his little body, some of it sinking into his gelatinous form, mumbling that 'it tickled him' Valerie rolled her eyes slightly and gave the little creature a pout.
"Mizu-baby your being awfully friendly today...see thats how bored he is, hes being nice!"
Mizu looked up and lifted a finger squirting the blonde in the face then formed a rude gesture with the same finger, Valerie blinked and pulled her damp corn yellow bangs away from her face and gave him a wide eyed stare then looked at Kara again
"Scratch that....hes not bored!"

She bit her bottom lip to keep from snickering at the look Valerie gave her after Mizu soaked her. "I think we need to find something to do." She said then tapped her chin with her index finger and thought outloud.
"The mall is to damn crowded on a day like this so parking would be horrible. The arcade might not be as full since people like going there in nice weather....gaaahhh! I dunno!!" She grabbed the sides of her head and looked down at the carpeted ground.
Unwrapping her tail from Mizu she stood up and stretched her arms above her head then started pacing infront of the couch. "We gotta find something to do otherwise this place is gonna make me go stir crazy."
Kara plopped back down on the couch and sighed. Then her stomach growled very loudly. "Uhhh...." Her cheeks flushed pink.

Maxis shivered slightly looked out the window at the gray, soggy, damp, cold weather outside. Just thinking about it made him chilly. That was one of the problems with being reptilian. When things were cold, you felt it twice as bad as everyone else. Hell, on days like today, he couldn't go outside without a thick coat. Not that he'd go outside if he wasn't wearing thick clothing anyways. Another problem with being reptilian was that you, well, looked reptilian. Scales, slitted pupils, and a prehensile tail
It made life kinda difficult, and right now, he felt like he was starting to go a little crazy from being cooped up inside. "Gah! I'm gonna go crazy if I stay in here any longer! There's gotta be something to do around here!" he thought aloud, his frustration finally getting the better of him.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Elsewhere in the mansion, a couple other students had already found something to occupy themselves. "Tag! You're it, Abe!" shouted a furry blue mutant, tapping a black-haired male on the shoulder, before disappearing in a puff of smoke.
"Hey, get back here!" the male laughed, looking around for his furry friend. "Gotcha!" he said, his form seeming to blur as he took a step forward, before vanishing completely. A split second later, however, he had reappeared mid-stride, standing right next to his target. "I can jump around too, Kurt," he said, patting the furry blue mutant on the back.

Owen tossed the empty chip bag in the next dumpster he saw before winding his way back toward the seedy area his home was located in. He was still hungry, but at least it was something to take the edge off; most days he didn't even have that. He had eaten all of the stale communion wafers his friends had shown him, and he wasn't QUITE ready to start picking around in the trash. He approached the solid wooden doors of his church and slipped inside; it wasn't much warmer, but at least there wasn't any chilly mud sucking on his shoes. As he approached the sanctuary, he heard an almost unperceptible hiss coming from a large crack by the left door. Owen reached out his hand and out crawled a golden orb weaver; a fearsome-looking spider indeed. He had rescued her and her mate when a hysterical fruit seller had discovered them in his bananas; they served as guardians to his 'house' and no matter what any soddy old nature show said, they were easily as wise as any human. "Come with me?" he hissed at her, his lips barely moving. Why? the reply came, as the spider raised its two front legs and wiggled them. Grinning, Owen raised his hand up to his head so the weaver could climb into his hair. "I just want some company. And maybe we can scare up some food while we're out." The spider's tone was unmistakeably indignant. We grow tired of scaring humans; their cries hurt. But she said nothing more and merely huddled a bit deeper into Owen's hair, enjoying the warmth his head gave off. He walked back out of the church and began to head off down the sidewalk, trying to look as less like a strange ragamuffin boy with a spider in his hair as he could.

Kira eventually made it to the kitchen and immediately proceeded warm up some soup and make a hot sandwich, cooking was something she definately knew how to do, afterall you tend to learn a lot from your mother when nobody else wants to hang out with you. With in moments she was seated and digging in, the warm food seemed even more wonderous then the hot shower and before she finished she was feeling happily warm, full, and sleepy.
Too bad her curiousity about this place was so great. After cleaning up, she began to wonder around and check everyhing out. At one point she say two boys boys playing tag, but one was blue and furry, slightly freaked out, she backed out of the room until they somehow disappeared. Though Kira was used to being a mutant, she never had been around those whose mutations affected their bodies so much. As she continued she heard someone shout in frustration, or was it boredom.
Walking into yet another room she saw another boy, but this one looked more like a lizard then a person. Stepping back she managed to cover up her surprise relitively quickly, after all he was just another person, right? "Ummm Hi." She said and held up her hand in greeting. "Was I interrupting something?"

Maxis's whole body seemed to freeze up at Kira's unfamiliar voice. "Huh? Oh, um, er..." he stammered, not quite sure how to deal with the new person. The first thing he did was to try to tuck his tail up under his sweater. The second thing he did was to pull his sweater's hood up over his face, in a feeble attempt to cover up his scales. Of course, in his haste, he pulled his hood up too fast, once again uncovering his tail. Which he once more attempted to hide behind himself.
"Uh, hi there," he said awkwardly. He wasn't great at conversing with people. Especially people who he didn't know. Stunted social skills came bundled with the whole "looking like an overgrown lizard" deal.

Kira watched first with nervousness as the stranger tried to hide his tail, but then with amusement as it utterly failed, despite herself she giggled at the absurdity of the situtation and was amazed that she was afraid just moments before. "Hi." she repeated before stepping through the doorway.
"I'm Kira, I just got here. You don't have to cover up anything for me." she assured him and looked at him again. "Your scales look really cool. I've never seen anyone with those before," she said. Hoping to difuse the situation she continued to explain her own powers, "I can only create mirages, you know illusions and stuff." An idea came to her head as she snapped her fingers and started imagining her illusion in her mind. Within a second she was covered in scales like Maxis's complete with a tail hanging behind her.
"What do you think, they probably look better on you." She said with a laugh, though she wasn't sure what to do with the tail in her illusion, so it twitched every few seconds.

"Wow. Um, okay. You're probably one of the first people not to get freaked out by the scales," Maxis remarked, rather surprised at this new girl. "You really think they're cool?" he asked, pulling his hood back down again.
The girl surprised him once more when she created the illusion of herself with scales as well. "That's pretty cool," he said, allowing his tail to lower itself back to it's starting position. "So, um, I guess you're new here, huh?" he asked, trying to make conversation. Most of the people at the institute kept reminding him that if he never tried to make conversation, he'd never get better at it, so this was probably good practice.

Kira releashed the illusion and smiled back at the boy. "Yeah, I'm new. The name's Kira." She said while looking around the new room. After all, she was really just trying to see what the mansion looked like.
"I'm guessing your not new, so care to tell me about yourself and what in the world the students actually do in this school. I mean I gathered we learn at bayville, but what happens here?" She asked relaxing into conversation. It had been so long since she actually was able to talk to someone besides herself or her parents seriously, it was nice.

"Well, I'm not exactly new, but I haven't been here for very long. Only about four months or so. Mostly what goes on here is that we learn to use our powers better. There's a bunch of other mutants like us here, and at least a few of don't really know what's happening to them, or how to control what they can do. So, they get shipped off here, so they learn how to not hurt themselves. Also, some of us get these hologram-generator-things, so we can go outside without having people run screaming in the other direction. But I don't usually wear mine around the mansion, because I usually don't need to," Maxis explained.
"Plus, all the teachers here are mutants too, so they know what it's like to have powers and not know how to use 'em. Like Ms Monroe? She can control the weather. And Mr Onasi, he does force fields and invisibility. I think he's also got some weird tentacle thing going on too, but I don't think that's something his clothing does by itself. I haven't worked up the nerve to ask him about it yet, though," he continued.
"But yeah, besides the learning to not blow ourselves up part, we've got classes like pottery and kung fu here, too, so we can get classes that they don't have at Bayville High. So yeah. That's pretty much what this place is all about."

Kira listened intently as the Maxis continued to explain everything to her about the school. This was definately going to be interesting. "Wow, this place really seems like its everything and more then what you here on the streets." She said as she looked around her with new appreciation.
"Hey, would you mind showing me around. This place seems amazing and all, but it's still big. I'm not exactly where everything is yet." Kira said with suddenly nervous grin, reminding her that this was indeed all new. "Well, that is if you don't have more important things to do, like whatever you were frustrated with earlier, or...ummm." She finished nervously and blushed at her bossiness.
