Amaury felt the male say her name, his head rubbing against her, and her heart swelled. When they had met, she had pitied him, because of his amnesia and faint-headedness. She had assumed he was a doomed wolf, and thought that she had allowed him to tag along with her. Now she knew he was a whole wolf, a treasured friend--without him, she would still have been back in the village. He didn't follow her, they traveled together.
She had little time to dwell on those unfamiliar thoughts, though. She returned herself to the problem before them, the other reason she was no longer in that village. "No trouble," she said brusquely. "We're used to lost causes." She went to his other side, pressing against him with Lite-Brite, hoping that he could stand between them.

Lite-Brite almost laughed at her words, they were indeed used to hopeless causes it seemed. Yet somehow together they always managed to find some way to right things. It was strange, before he had been trying to wrack his brain to remember his past, now his future seemed so bright beside Amaury he didn't much concern himself with the bright blurs of his memory.
He focused on helping the male standing on his other end so they could usher him onward, they had to get away to somewhere relatively safe. "Come now...no one gets left behind." He nodded firmly and nosed the male forward, still he could smell something was wrong, it was not his injuries alone that weakened this male, strange how much he felt he owed it to help him now, though he did not even know his name. Names seemed so trivial in matters of life and death though.

And with their gentle goading, it seemed Backus stood up, a little wobbly still, but he could walk without falling again. Who were these two? How did the female get trapped? Were they together as mates? They seemed close. Backus kept all these questions in his head. He wouldn't pry into someone their lives. This would probably be the first, and last time, he'd see them. He had to continue on.
"Haah... Ow..." he hissed as he walked a little further, feeling the blood mat his fur, causing it to tighten after a bit.

Amaury felt a bit guilty at escaping unharmed. Except for muscle cramps and a bit of soreness where the leather had cut into her paw, she was fine. So she took it upon herself to make absolutely sure their new companion didn't get into any more trouble.
"Where are we taking you?" she asked. It seemed likely that she should know, but she didn't. He probably had a preference; if not, they could always find somewhere safe. She and Lite-Brite didn't have a permanent home, but they knew the woods well.

"I'm Lite-Brite...and this lovely lady is Amaury...thanks again for your help...normally we're so much more careful." He knew now that he couldn't let Amaury endanger herself again, his heart had nearly leapt from his chest when he saw her caught.
"They caught us by surprise..." Now they were tired, injured, and still lacked their meal.

"B-Backus," he murmured out his name as he slowly steadied his steps. His vision wasn't blurry, his head was starting to clear. Now all the aches were slamming down on him all at once. Not that he hadn't felt it yet, but it was full now.
Where to bring him? Anywhere. He didn't care. He didn't have family, or a home that he knew of. "C-cave... up.... 'round that... that big tree," he said, motioning with his head where he was talking about. He saw it on his way here and made a mental note to sleep there. Until all this happened. Now he'd got to bed hungry, injured, and with two wolves, maybe, that he'd just met. An interesting way to start his day.

Amaury nodded curtly at his introduction. Now that they had names and a goal, she felt they were getting somewhere. "Come on, then," she said, lessening the pressure against Backus' body. It felt like he could support himself again. She started to move a little faster, hoping to get to the safety of the cave as quickly as possible. She didn't want Backus to exhaust himself, though. It seemed there was more wrong with him than just getting beat up by the dogs.
As they reached the cave, she sniffed around the entrance, making sure it wasn't occupied. It smelled faintly of other wolves and large woodland creatures for whom the cave would make decent protection, but all the scents were old, as though this cave was only used as temporary residence for wanderers like them.

Lite-Brite matched Amaury's pace carefully trying to keep the male from faltering, yet hesitant to injure him further with any jostling. He remained silent the rest of the way to the cave and watched as she sniffed around for signs that another might have occupied it.
There was a vague stirring in the back of his mind, Backus weight was a familiar sensation, the way he cradled his body to aid the injured male. For a moment he lost himself in a distant shadowy memory where he aided a red pelted wolf across lush green land towards a shimmering blue pond.
He pulled himself away from his lost moment and nodded at Amaury. "Looks clear...we shouldn't need to stay more then a night...or two..." He carefully helped the other male forward into the cave.

When they gave the all clear, Backus limped away from them and moved to lay down with a huff. The bite and scratches hurt him so muc, but he wasn't able to do anything about them. He wouldn't let anyone lick his wounds either. As he settled down, he looked to the two new friends he'd made and offered them, what he hoped, was a smile.
"I'll be fine... if you two want to leave in the morning.... I'm so tired...." Blood loss was making him sleepy and slightly nauseous. Swallowing thickly, he closed his eyes and let out a yawn and a wince that followed.

Backus certainly looked tired. Amaury was no medic; she trusted a wolf to know when he had pushed himself far enough. Surely he wouldn't lie. Surely he would admit if he needed help, if he was injured too badly. Surely.
She lay down, too, on the stone floor, rolling slightly onto her side and exposing her belly so she could expose the most surface area to the cool rock and air. A fearful sprint followed by carrying half a wolf had left her tired, and what was more the tiredness had balled itself up, hidden behind adrenaline, and then leapt out when she wasn't looking. She glanced up at Lite-Brite. "We'll probably move on soon," she said, not wanting to promise anything either way. Backus wasn't slowing them down; they wandered at their own pace. "But of course, we may all sleep in tomorrow."

Lit-Brite watched the male with uncertain pink eyes for a long moment, he didn't look like he would be alright. Slowly he turned his had away and looked back to Amaury with a nod.
"Yes sleeping in is most likely, we're all undoubtedly tired." He moved to lay down at the entrance of the small cavern not yet prepared to sleep. His own bites and scratches throbbed with pain and he settled to lick at them to staunch the trickle of blood.
Perhaps in the morning he could find some breakfast for the three of them, it was the least he could do for the male who had helped save them. He closed his eyes picturing Amaury trapped, he couldn't handle the image, no no more recklessness. They would avoid the two leggers for a while, he couldn't risk her like that.

Before the answers were finished being said, Backus had drifted off. He was no stranger to fitful sleep, and this night was full of it for him. Or it would be. Not caring if the blood of his wounds flowed all night, he knew he couldn't die from them. They didn't get anything major, really. So, he'd sleep through the pain and the blood flow.
