Huruma turned back to the avian just in time to see her flying away, but she was already well out of reach and had a lengthy head start. The rustling in the grass was a clear indication that the hare was on the run now too. She growled inwardly, cursing herself for falling for such a trick. And now she would have to find something else to eat, most likely something much less fresh than either of them would have been. It was a depressing thought, but she almost felt it was what she earned after this little incident.

Stupid bird. Stupid hare. It was a unique encounter, an uninvolved individual barging in and disturbing the hunt- but it wasn't strange to miss your chance, especially hunting alone. She couldn't let it get to her, nobody was relying on her, nobody would really know about it and she would find something else to eat.

She stopped growling, but continued to glare and watch the pair go off. Once they were too hard to keep watching, she looked around her. She was a distance from where she started off and hoped it would prove beneficial. Her nose to the air momentarily, she headed off in the direction Mnyama had been going with high hopes of getting her meal eventually.

Kiongozi flew into the tree branches, clinging onto one until she was steady, taking a moment to catch her breath before hopping around to see if the hare had followed her or not. It was hard to see through the grass, but it was moving- and it stopped by the tree. Not to mention there was no sign of the dog following after them, Kion could see a spot of color still standing near the tree (after all, wild dogs were small but not as small as the hare or bird). She didn't move until she saw Huruma wander off, then she looked down to where the grass had stopped moving.

"Well!" she peeped.

Mnyama followed as quick as her springy paws would take her, tumbling to a stop at the trunk of the tree, nearly going head first into a root. She was glad to have narrowly missed becoming lunch, knowing she could never share the story with her mother, and almost as glad to have avoided further damage by head-on collision with a tree. She poked out of the grass and looked back to see they were no longer being harassed, and then she looked up and stared at the funny little bird that had saved her life. She waited for the bird to turn her attention down, and she smiled gratefully.

"Thank you!" she called back.

With no threat looming now, she hopped off the branch and flew down into the grass to talk nearer to eye level with the dark hare. She found them to be quite fascinating, she'd talked to one not too long ago. There was no way she could know, though, that this was actually that hare's sister. They were so different, not even their noses matched!

"You should keep a better eye out for danger," she scolded, "Something like you probably looks tasty to more than just that yellow girl."

"I don't need to be careful, usually," she explained, glad to be on the same level as the bird now. It was much easier on conversation when you didn't have to stare up the trunk of a tree. She didn't want to be defensive, she was grateful! But it was hard when you were being scolded, especially for someone like Mnyama, "I live in the lion pride back that way, I'm not normally anywhere this strange."

She hopped a step closer to the bird, nodding politely and introducing herself, "I'm Mnyama, by the way."

"Mnyama, it's a pleasure to meet you," Kion responded with equal politeness, though she was still looking amused, she was very curious about the statement about the lion pride, "I'm Kiongozi, and I'm very curious about your presence in a pride." She was starting to make the connection between the two hares, she had directed the pale hare back towards her home when she had met her. But she did not want to make connections where they were uncertain.

"And if that is so much safer, why you would venture all the way out here!"

"I was born there," she said as an explanation, and then laughed awkwardly at the question of why she would leave if she considered it safe, rubbing her ear as she considered how she might answer. It was hard to explain, especially to a stranger. "I'm just out looking around, I was curious, I guess you could say. Plenty of lions in a pride but not all that many hares, not outside my own family anyway."

It was a good answer, not entirely untrue. She was looking for other hares! Then she reminded herself, on the idea of being most familiar with lions and other creatures living closer to the pride.

"What was that yellow thing that tried to eat me, anyway?" she asked, looking back to where the confrontation took place.

"Ah, I don't know how good of company a bunch of lions would make," she said, meaning to agree with the reason for wandering away. She might normally seek out companionship of other birds, but then.. she was the type to live alone. With her badger. Which she was lacking at the moment- which wasn't helping her survival much.

"The yellow thing?" she repeated with a twittery laugh, "She was a wild dog. Usually they hunt in groups, I do believe. 'least that's how I see them around."

With that comment from Kiongozi, Mnyama decided to leave out that her whole reason for being away from home involved her best friend- and that best friend was a lioness. Though she couldn't completely hide her amusement at the direction of the conversation. She tucked away the tidbit of information about what exactly had attacked her and instead focused back on the conversation about lions.

"They're not so bad," she said with a small shrug, "I don't suppose you know where I could find more hares, though?"

Kiongozi visibly perked up at the question about hares. She paused and thought about it, she might be able to find some hares, she could fly. She had an obvious advantage in a search, especially over such a small creature. And she did rather enjoy bossing others around, leading them places.. she would not be gone long, there would be no reason to be reluctant to leave her nest and precious feather.

"Possibly," she said, focusing back on the dark hare, "I suppose I could be convinced to help you look, I can get a better view from above after all."

Mnyama didn't even realize how much she was asking of the avian, to her it was just a simple question not a request for an escort to anywhere in particular. But it never even crossed her mind to turn down such an offer, she did want to get back home before too long! And Kiongozi was correct, she did have a much better perspective while hunting.

"I would appreciate the help!" she said, rocking on her feet in anticipation. Perhaps this would not take so long.

She had to take a moment to wonder about just how generous she had become lately. Since losing Kunda, since helping that goddess.. well, she wasn't quite the same. She obviously needed to get herself a new badger, it would certainly benefit her own health and perhaps make her feel a bit more normal. She could multitask while helping search for hares, perhaps even employ the help of this hare. You never knew what you might miss!

"Alright then," she said, hopping up into the air and circling the hare quickly, "But you owe me. Let's go!" She threw in the debt for good measure, not wanting to just give away her services. It made her feel better about her actions as she led the hare away.

Fin.
