Cobalt was tensed, ready to defend his mate and his foals. She was going to attack, he knew that manic look in her eyes. He waited, ready for her offense, when the sound of hoofbeats changed the atmosphere.
A beautiful ivory mare with ebony tresses moved towards the cluster of furious Soquili. Cobalt's eyes widened. This could be none other than Airlia's mother. He straightened his stance, moving back to Airlia's side once it became obvious that a fight was not imminent.
It was rather touching, he thought, witnessing the reunion of Airlia and her mother. He took note that Nimue, as he assumed was her name, spoke of herself in the third person...possibly a sign of the insanity that Airlia had mentioned. Nevertheless, she seemed harmless enough. More so than that, she seemed to actually harbor some love for Airlia. He wondered if Airlia had expected such a reunion.
When Nimue addressed him as the father, a glowing sort of pride filled his chest. He was rather taken aback by the name she gave him. A confused look flitted on his face for a moment. Big Blue? He didn't know what to think of that, but he realized in that instance that he rather disliked the nickname...although he'd never admit it to Nimue. If that's what she wanted to call him, then he would allow her to gladly. After all, she was practically his mother-in-law.
"My name is Cobalt, miss. But you can call me whatever you like." He smiled gently, silently hoping she would take to calling him by his name.
As Airlia moved in closer to him, he gently lifted a wing and draped it over her, taking comfort from her touch as much as she was taking from his. He smiled at her lovingly. "She doesn't seem all that bad." He whispered back. "I think I rather like her."

"Cobalt..." Nimue spoke fondly....so this was the stallion who'd captured her daughter from the grasp of darkness she'd lived in. She'd seen such a change from when she was a foal, although expected that she'd change once she'd grown up....but that inner darkness she'd felt when they were all still foals seemed dormant and distant under the affection she felt towards Cobalt and now her foals. "Big blue has a pretty name." She beamed, flicking her tail behind her as she looked upon them both.
They made a beautiful pair, within their harbored dispair there was happiness as a joint couple...one she hoped they would hold on with everything they had since she knew what it was like to lose something so precious.
Even to this day she would have regretted her choices if it did not leave her with beautiful children, yes...even Gabriel.
"Come...Nimue has gathered apples! We eat, since eating is yummy!" Turning around to find Minuet had left, she tilted her head with a bit of a sigh...walking forth but glancing back at the pair. "Minuet has taken to being the momma when Nimue cannot. She must have gone back to watch Numielle. Numielle is a bit like Nimue..."
Airlia nodded her head softly, always relishing in any touch Cobalt gave her. Once her mother had turned away she spoke softly. "I know she doesn't...but she's changed. She was not like this before....she does seem a lot happier." The mare commented, following her mother in a slow lope as she was a bit distracted by her bulge to walk normally.
"There....still are old wounds that feel fresh though...but I am glad you like her." Last thing she needed was more conflict in her life, afterall.
"Once we get there...I have some things I want to talk about." Airlia confessed to her mother, since it was starting to seem they both needed a lesson on parenting and childbirth.
