Quenar waited until the female had done her business then decided to wait until she finished her purchase when the burly male insulted her. He watched the interaction between the male and female without even showing a bit of fear or upset. The females of his house were extremely vicious, he even had a few scars to prove it. So Tre's behavior was quite normal to him. He was curious about the other dialect but decided not to press the issue with the female being angry. Another lesson from his house, always bend to the will of an angry female or it would be the last thing you ever did.
The nudge was enough to break him of the spell of obediance and he followed her deftly through the tunnel. His footsteps fell like leaves in the wind, barely registering on even the sensitive drow ears. He had trained for years to move both fast and silently. He made a mental note of the path they were following, picking out subtle land marks incase he were to be seperated from the female. Alwyas have a back up plan, that was another lesson. He avoided any stone features that numbered four, even jumping any fourth step in some stairs. He did all this without much thought, it had become a part of who he was.
"You know the way well, without even a map. I believe I have choosen a good guide. I hope I will not be too boring with my collection. There are several species that may take a few days to get."

Treskri was still pretty agitated by the conflict with the male, and her lip curled up in anger. Who the hell had he thought he was? No one treated her in such a way! Oh..he'd pay for it. She almost had half a mind to turn back around and beat the male around a bit before continuing the journey to the surface. She didn't because she knew it wouldn't be proper to keep a client waiting...though he probably would be rather amused by what she did to the other male. Perhaps he would have even helped her in degrading the uncouth rat's behind.
"Of course I know the way, I've gone to the surface quite a lot; at least six times in the past year alone. If you are a bit boring..I can always scrounge up something to amuse myself with. You've paid me enough to take up to a week's time, so that won't be a problem with me. Just..make sure to keep an eye out for poisonous animals..there are certain species that can kill you with a single bite." She replied to the male's short speech.
They continued up the tunnel, traveling at a quick pace. The tunnel suddenly split into two parts in front of them. Without pause Treskri went to the left taking care of the rocky ground they were traveling over. She raised a hand as if to cover her eyes, as she peered up ahead as the tunnel suddenly veered off in another direction. "It appears that we will be meeting a returning raiding party, mind your manners and don't speak unless they request you to do so." Treskri told him in warning tone, slowing her pace, and keeping her eyes alerted for the party that she could hear up ahead.
She rather hoped she was correct in her assumption that it was a returning raiding drow party, and not a human party. That would definitely put a damper into their plans if it was the latter. Not to mention how it would make her look in front of her client if she as wrong. She prayed to the goddess to keep her in her favor as she continued on.
She spotted the red eyes of the returning drow before she noticed anything else, but it was enough to cause her immense relief. She immediately relaxed the tension in her shoulders and neck ebbing away slowly. She paused, leaning up against the right side of the tunnel wall, to allow the group passage, motioning for Quenar to do the same.

Quenar smiled a bit as she spoke of her ventures up top. Truly it took a strong female to do such a dangerous job. When she spoke of the animals he smiled even bigger. In his pack were some collapsable cages as well as small jars for holding insects. He hoped to bring a few specimins back to keep collecting more than what he could in one trip. "Actually shall be on the lookout for them. They will be part of my collection if I can safely capture them."
Then another group approached them. Quenar instinctively hit the wall, a motion he had trained for many times for his assignments. But it was another group of drow. He heeded Tre's words and kept quiet. His red eyes were down cast but his ears were hard at work. He was counting how many there were without even thinking about it. At the third person he had to brace himself so as not to move away, for it may have been a sign of aggression. He waited for them to pass and then for Tre to begin moving again.

Treskri merely nodded at his words, rather amused at his intentions to capture different species of animals to take back into the Underdark. She'd certainly have to make sure he didn't return with animals that would die away in captivity..but ones that were more used to living in pitch blackness. She wondered if he had even thought of that..probably not. He seemed rather green when it came to the world above and so she'd end up having to keep a close eye on him once they reached it.
Of course she didn't have a problem with it, since he was paying her quite a nice sum for the work she'd have to do. She too stilled aginst the right side of the tunnel, glad that Quenar only had to be told once. Some of the males she'd guided before hadn't listened to her and this had resulted in them being physically assaulted by returning groups. These were probably some of the fellows that Quenar had gotten his unfavorable references from. It made Treskri furious. Of course they would go so far as blaming her for their pain even though it had been their choice that had caused it.
The raiding party passed them by without a word or comment, though the leader nodded her head at Treskri in passing. A few other females recognized her and either nodded or gave her signs of respect as they passed. It wasn't until the last few participants were passing did Treskri see any captives. She was rather relieved to see that they were returning with two human males and a male surface elf, the goddess Lolth and her priestesses would be quite pleased with the result of the raid.
Once the group had passed by, Treskri pulled away from the cave wall and motioned for Quenar to follow her. "We'll have to hurry a bit...just so we get there in complete darkness or it will be too much of a shock for your abyss born eyes. "

Quen watched the parade of drow, noting the slaves that followed. Lloth would recieve fresh sacrifices tomorrow, that would hopefully ensure good favor for himself and his guide on their journey. Maybe he could get her to capture him a surface rat to test out his poisions. That would be rather fun. He smirked to himself but didn't let his pride get to him. He knew he was merely a babe on the surface world; completely unprotected and ignorant of all things. That was why he was paying so much for this journey. It would give him knowledge, new poisions, and perhaps more insight into his own curse.
Once they had passed he looked to his guide for the next move. He nodded at her words and followed faithfully without question. Even if he did get nervous at some junctures of their journey he would remain passive and allow the female to lead. She was a female and knew her way to the surface; there for she was of higher status than himself. It was also because of the latter reason that he had so many questions for her. But he refrained from such idle chatter as it felt childish and he was quite sure she wouldn't agree to all the noise. They were approaching the land of their enemies and, even in the dark, they needed to be on their guard.

Treskri was relieved that the male had fallen silent and that she hadn't had to tell him to do so. She figured he was slightly uneasy with the new world he was venturing into and didn't want to cause them any trouble that would result in problems for the two of them. She sniffed the air and reveled in the smell of the surface world that filtered down into the tunnel. It brought back so many memories..some good and some not so good.
She loved the scent of fresh grass; it brought back memories of endless blue skies and the wispy white fog stuff called clouds. Ah..she couldn't wait to see them again! It had been too long since her last journey to the surface. Then again..every day in the underdark seemed to be twice or thrice as many days in comparison to the days she had spent on the surface. If She could live there she would, but it wasn't in the cards for her just yet.
Just the thought of cards brought back a particularly pleasant and erotic memory of a particular illusionist that she had spent the most exquisite night with ages ago. A night that she would never be able to forget..not with the passion and intense intimate moments she had shared. Gods..what was Div up to these days? It had been too long since she had last thought of him or even written him. She'd have to do something about that once they returned to the Underdark after this trip.
Treskri groaned in a low tone and smacked her forehead with her gloved hand. Come out of it girl! Now is not the time to let your mind wander! She tried to reason with herself. That was enough to get her mind back on the matter at hand.
The trail was getting rougher and harder to traverse. Treskri paused at the top of a large boulder and peered back at the male to see how he was faring. He seemed rather winded and was sweating from the pace she had established and looked as though he might pass out at any moment.
"I think a bit of a break would be good, don't you?" She asked, sitting down on the boulder and pulling out her water gourd and taking a long swig from it. "Have a seat and rest for a bit. It's only going to get rougher the further we go."

Quen was grateful for the rest. His image of the Underdark's depth was greatly underestimated. He had thought there was a quicker path. Then again maybe there was but it was most likely dangerous as surface elves would be able to get in easier. He pulled a small bottle of water out of his pack and took a few sips slowly. Crossing his legs he sat quietly, taking slow deep breaths.
This technique was taught to all the assassins in his house as it allowed for quick resting of the body and the mind. The extra oxygen helped his muscles relax and the calm relaxed his mind to keep him sharp. He looked up to the female and felt slightly ashamed. She hadn't even broken a sweat but he was quite warm from their climb. It was only going to get rougher, so he had to suck it up and do it. So much would be gained from this trip and, if he survived, he might make it again for more supplies.
At long last he could not contain his curiousity. "Tell me Lady Treiskri, what is the surfance world like in comparrison to a lovely dark home? I have often wondered what facination Surfance Warriors found in it." He hoped he wasn't being too forward but he was young enough to allow his curiousity to take control.

Treskri leaned back on the boulder and rested her body as more images of the overworld floated through her mind. She could hear her employer taking slow rhythmic deep breaths and she closed her eyes, lulled into a sense of peace by it. It was a nice change for once to have a fellow that didn't ask a ton of questions of her. Quietness was a much needed substance for her mind to recuperate from a long six months in the Underdark.
She was a bit miffed when he did speak up a few moments later, but the questions at least weren't stupid ones. It sounded as though Quenar's curiousity had finally gotten the better of him. She smiled faintly to herself remembering back to when that had been her...all those years ago when she had first started training as a surface raider.
She wiggled, and turned on her side so she was facing him, propping her neck and head up with her right arm. "So you want to know about the world above do you? Well..in comparison, the light from the sun is bright enough to blind a drow. Which is why we have the goggles..to prevent undue damage to our eyes. The Sun is a powerful thing and it can cause damage to pretty much all tools, weapons and clothing that we bring upside with us..which is why surface raiders have to replace their weapons and clothing so often.
As for why I find it fascinating..well..it has a supply of humans and surface elves, which are required for sacrifices in the temples. Surface raiders tend to get paid very well for those they bring down into the Underdark. Not only that..but they have many things we don't have..like stars. Think of the glimmersea..it sparkles and shines..but it's nothing like the sky at nighttime. The stars go on forever..and are much more striking than anything we have.
I sometimes wish we could bring all the wonderful things of the Upper world into the Underdark. It's too bad that's not possible." She replied rather sadly.

Quen listed to her words with a sense of childish fascination. Stars beyond the Gimmersea? It sounded amazing, or at least she sounded amazed by that. The damages the sun could do he was well aware of. He had seen the raiders coming and going, noting with his excellent detailed eyes the changes in their gear. He only hoped he would do well enough on the upside. He didn't want to seem like a complete idiot infront of the female. Wait....why didn't he want to be an idiot around her? He shook his head a bit and ran a hand through his white hair.
"It does sound quite amazing. Though considering the dangers I've heard other surface raiders speak of I am glad I have a guide. Then again, they could have merely been trying to scare me." That was also a rather large possibilty given his nervous behavior at times. He took out his book of creatures and animals he had created based on their stories and descriptions of traders. He suspected some were false and he would remove them once he discovered that. Once he had caught his breath he stood. Shouldering his pack he looked to the female.
"Well enough of my silly questions. I do not wish to slow you too much with my inexperience and curiousity. Shall we continue?" He climbed up closer to her so he could keep up faster.

Treskri shot him a brilliant grin, showing off her white teeth.
"oh there are dangers up there, slews of them. Just like in the Underdark, in that aspect the two world are the same. Though..the things that are dangerous don't always appear so at first. So..I advise you to be very careful."
She watched him take out a book from his pack and look it over for a moment before returning it an then stood up. She cocked her head at him, watching him closely to see how he was faring. His breathing wasn't as labored and he appeared to be more than ready to move on.
"Oh..I don't mind. They weren't silly in any way." She replied with a grin, and offered him a hand as he climbed up the boulder to join her. "I think that would be best. We're rather close to the surface now..but we'll still have to set up camp before we can relax any. I'll take first watch..and then you'll take the second watch."

He male nodded and prepared himself for yet another hike. It was a wonder than the female already knew they were close. Perhaps it was the different air or a subtle smell that those who had visited the surface could sense. Maybe he would learn this? Maybe not. It would depend on what kind of poisons he found above ground and how easy they were to get from merchants. After all it was sometimes cheaper to simply get it yourself rather than spend a great amount on merchant items. Not to mention you could get other things for free.
As they approached the surface his eyes began to feel the strain. Even if it was night the Surface World was much brighter than his own cavernous life had prepared him for. He held his hand up a bit, wondering if he would see the stars that Tre spoke of. Were they brighter than perhaps he had expected or did they sparkle like the Glimmersea? "The area we will be in, what sort of animals must I be mindful of when I am on what?"

Treskri was rather glad when the terrain got a bit easier the closer they got to the surface, if she had chosen another route Quenar probably would not have made it all the way. She paused at the top of the cavern to breathe in the fresh beautiful clear air and exhale happily. Gods it felt good to be back on the surface! She stretched out and beheld the wondrous sight of the darkened twinkling sky overhead.
"Aren't those something?" Treskri asked, not really registering that he had asked her a question. "Stars are soo glorious! they're like tiny balls of magic hovering overhead. I've always wondered if perhaps they're portals to other worlds. That would be something awe inspiring don't you think?"

Quen raised an eyebrow at the female as she spoke of the stars in the sky but did take a moment to look up at them. The small dots in the sky truly were to be admired but that was not what he was here for. Frankly his eyes were already scouring the ground for any sign of the plants he had been studying for days. The ground amazed him more than the sky. Such soft earth was here compared to the rocks of his homeworld. He knelt down, almost crawling on all fours as he examined very small bug and plant he came across. He didn't stray far the from the female but it was obvious he was ready to start his own search.
"Yes yes quite extrodinary," he said in a distracted tone. He was currently examining a small plant and it's root. "So where shall our camp be? I suspect I may not sleep much any way what with all these new plants. Hmm...interesting bug." He allowed a lightning bug to land on his finger. His eyes squinted with every flash of it's light. How facinating! He wondered if perhaps these creatures could be put to use, or if he could recreate their light. He took out a small jar with holes in the top and collected a few. Even if they didn't survive perhaps he could extract that light creating aspect of their hind ends.

Treskri was brought out of her reverent state by a slight sound in the tall grass. She turned her eyes instantly to see what it was and was rather amused to find Quenar down on all fours scouring the ground. She held back the laugh that threatened to spill out of her mouth at the sight. He looked as though he was completely engulfed in examining every little creature and plant he came across in the wavy grasses.
She was about to respond to his question when a slight stirring of grass to the left side of Quenar suddenly caught her attention. Treskri moved like lightening and her arm flashed out to grab onto the sneaking snake's head like a leech as she pulled it out of the grass. Gods! That had been close..too close. One more second and Quenar would have been convulsing on the ground in the throes of death!
"Here, this particular fellow is quite poisonous..next time pay more attention to things around you. The slightest sound in the grass can be deadly if you don't pay attention." Treskri chided none to gently. "You're lucky I noticed it in time, or you'd be dead right now." She added with a scowl on her face.
"It would probably be best with you to camp out in the trees..that way nothing out here will get you."

Quen hadn't even noticed the animal, so unuse to the sounds of the surface world. Granted he was quite happy to find a new poisonous animal, which he promptly put in a storage container for milking later, but he didn't want to upset his guide. He hung his head and bowed a bit. "I do apologize. I suppose my curiosity got the best of me. I will be sure to pay more attention and ask of your advice."
Actually Quenar was quite immune to most poisons as he consumed some almost everyday. Most poisoner's did, it was all part of their training so they could understand the effects of the poisons they used. Some had been particularly painful but others were simply numbing.
Now he turned his attention to the...what did she call them...trees? This was Quen's first experience with a living specimen, as mostly the wood was returned to the Underdark for building and such.
