Safi just grinned. "It's no problem! I know their maker will understand. And as I said...one's mate is more important than being selfish." He nodded. Family was everything...Safi had decided that soon after the pups were born.
"Now...the next watering hole is about half a day, due north and a little to the east. You're about halfway there once you see a tree shaped like a giraffe." Simple enough directions, right? And with a landmark, too!

Ahh, the kindness of strangers...It was amazing.
Flashing a grin of appreciation (really, he seriously was appreciative), the lion bowed deeply, thanking the wild dog several more times. In truth, Durion didn't like wild dogs. Strange, long-faced, smelly creatures who wagged their short tails and procreated way too much for their own good, with way too many offspring as a result. But he'd never let that show during a con. Of course not. Needless to say, he was relieved when the time came for him to leave.
"Thank you, my friend!" he shouted loudly, his smile showing the extent of his gratitude. "I'll have my mate back by my side in no time. Thank you!" With that, the dark lion turned and rushed off in the direction the wild dog had instructed. "Giraffe tree...Giraffe tree..." Durion chanted to himself as he ran, newly-acquired jewelry jangling on his fur as he went. Once he was out of the wild dog's sight, a smug grin took over the lion's face.
"Sucker." he whispered. Then he disappeared over the horizon.
