It depends on the sound you want. If you want a softer warmer tone, get some Philosopher Bronzew Strings. Nickelwood strings.. whell you have probably been using them for quite some time... Steel strings are hard, and punchy sounding.
And with gauges, the thicker the string, the eazier it is to slap, and the warmer the tone. The thinner the gauge, the eazier it is to finger, and the brighter the tone. mrgreen

Im wondering what strings are best for really high tunings (A-D-G-C), and what strings are best for really low tunings (B-F#-B-E)

I'm not sure what I have on my bass..
I recently got the strings replaced on my dads old electric guitar (which is now mine, haha!) and they put some Ernie Ball Slinkies on it and I'm liking them so far so...
I'm not much help, heh.. =P

I currently have Series A round wound on my bass. The band I'm in could be described as a grunge band. What kind of strings would you guys suggest I use?

well, the stainless steel strings are good, they last quite a while, but they eat fingers... I like Elixer strings alot, and also Fender strings.

I use Dean Markley's Nickel Steel Roundwound.
They're the toughest strings I've ever used.

Hmmm, I recommend D'Addario med. gauge, Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies, GHS medium Boomers, and Warwick Red Labels. Always wanted to try Rotosounds and DRs though, no where around here carries them...

Swampkee good strings for death metal/gothic metal music? I'd say GHS Heavy Bass Boomers, but I think any high gauge strings would do it.
