Finally, the two days had passed, and now it was time for the clan to finally begin moving. She was unsure how accustomed to traveling her new companions were, and so she set a slow and easy pace, deciding that perhaps they ought to stay a few days at their next camp site, in order for any of those who were not fully accustomed to traveling at her pace, to have a good rest.

Shortly, or so it seemed to Rina, the sun began to set. Yet she did not mind, for ahead she could already see an area that would make for a perfect place to rest.

((And then the adventure goes here! surprised ))
PostPosted: Tue Jan 05, 2010 5:01 pm

((Time-skip-ness from the 1st post XD ))

The year was more than half gone now, and Rina had begun to vaguely guide the tribe in the direction of their homeland, so that they could return for the celebrations to be held at the start of spring.

The tribe had changed greatly over the past year--some members had been granted permission to take temporary leave of the tribe, and wander on their own. But the tribe had grown as well: her son--or rather, one of the three--had joined, to be with his mate, Iku, and between them now had four lovely kits.

Rina had had a hard time adjusting to her new status as mother, perhaps because of how unexpected it had been, yet she found the transition to grandmother happened with far more ease. Was it because she had been this way before? Was it because this time, the offspring were not a surprise? Rina had spent many nights musing over those questions, and had finally come to the conclusion she would never know. There were far more important things in life over which she ought to concern herself, after all. The running of her tribe. The caring for her family.

Her family...she had hardly noticed it before, yet she was certain of it now--she had unconsciously guided the tribe to be near the lands of Lunarie. Perhaps she could visit her brother and his family tonight, and see how he had fared for the past year.

"We will camp here for the night," Rina announced, leading the tribe to a grove of trees by a stream--likely the same stream that provided water to the Lunarie lands.

"You all know your duties, so I will leave you to them. Does anyone have any concerns they wish to voice to me in private?"

She wished to see her brother, and his family, but as the leader of the Gypsy Clan, she must attend to her duties first, duties such as listening to the voices of the tribe. She voiced the same offer she voiced every night--some nights there were none, and some she helped one modifox with personal concerns, or settled a dispute between two others long into the night, and even into the morning.

That was alright, though--her sleep was a small sacrifice to be made in the name of the continued upkeep of the clan.

It had taken Aki some time to realize that they had been traveling in the direction of their homeland. It had been almost a year since she had been there. A year in which so many new things had happened. They had lost a few members but her son had mated with one of Rina's three sons and they had had four kits together.

Ah! That reminded her, it would be Loco and Jay's first time to the homeland. Perhaps when they arrived, she would tell them stories during the festivities. Loco seemed to love her stories.

Aki's mind snapped back to the present as Rina announced their camp for the night. Something seemed familiar about this land, but Aki couldn't put her finger on it. It probably just reminded her of a place she had been before.

"None here, Rina." Aki said politely to her elder. "Loco! Jay! Come along to the stream."

Ah! Finally! They were stopping for the night. Although Iku loved his children, they had been especially hard to handle today. Iku couldn't count the number of times he had to chase one of them down or keep them from bothering the wildlife. How did his mother do it? Any time one of them got out of control she always managed to handle the situation with ease. Iku felt a little bad for having his mother care for his children most of the time, but she was the clan career after all.

"I'm good." Iku replied to Rina's question. He had no concerns tonight. After traveling so long, he got used to not questioning where they were going and why Rina chose the spots she did to camp. And speaking of camp, it was time for him to go gather food and do a bit of hunting so that the clan would be able to eat later. It seemed like forever since Shori had taught him about hunting.

Loco was to busy playing 'catch' with grandma Aki's tail to hear grandma Rina's announcement about camp or concerns. She never had any concerns anyway. There was always so much going on, why bother with concerns? Problems were for adults. It wasn't until Jay, her brother, tapped her face with his tail that she heard anything the others were saying.

Jay dragged in behind Aki, wishing his grandma would carry him and not give him speeches about having to pull his own weight and it would be better for him in the long run and blah blah blah. He allowed himself to plop down next to Rina as the rest of his family made camp.

"I have a concern, Rina." She said to her, rolling over onto her front paw, "Tomorrow, let's not walk as much." He knew his request wouldn't be heard, not that Rina didn't listen to requests of her tribe, but that because traveling was party of what they did and it was his fault for chasing so many birds. He rolled back over onto his feet when Aki called him to follow her. He rolled his eyes and offered Loco a thump with his tail as he passed her. "Stop playing and c'mon."

"I have no complaints," Aida spoke up as she moved back to the group. She had been ahead of the group since they set out this morning, informing Rina about any potential obstacles through a scout's power of telepathy.

The vixen had caught on to the fact that they were venturing back to their homeland, but she didn't speak up about it. She didn't know RIna's motivation for it, but Aida also didn't mind. The Elder had her reasons for things; Aida's job was to make sure the path of those reasons was safe.

"We should be safe here tonight, Rina," she said with a nod."There doesn't seem to be naything much bigger than us around." With that, Aida moved a respectful distance away and laid down in the grass, keeping an eye on her fellow tribe members. She preferred to watch than be in the middle of things, and now was a good time to rest her paws befor emaking a quick round around the camp before sleeping in a few hours.

Rina smiled at the 'complaint' of her grandson.

"Yet tomorrow you will be stronger from today's walking, so you will be able to walk further. The more you walk today, the further you will be able to walk tomorrow."

Even though Jay was a kit, he was still a member of her tribe, and so his concern should be treated with as much seriousness as she gave to an adult's.

Rina nodded at Aida's report. "Thank you, Aida."

Their journey had been rather uneventful that day, due to Aida's diligence, for which Rina was grateful. While Rina did enjoy when unexpected things happened, she preferred such things to be good in nature--the scars on her tail silently bore witness to some of the less pleasant adventures Rina had had when she was younger.

After Aida reported, Rina returned her attention to Jay: "are you satisfied now?" Her tone was not challenging--she merely wished to keep her tribe peaceful and satisfied, the kits as well as the adults.

((Even though Loco and Jay have grown, I'm still rping them as kits))

Aki led Loco and Jay to she small stream next to the groove. It had a nice flow and would be shallow enough for the kit's to play in for a little bit. Aki hung the napsack she carried on a low branch and walked out into the deepest part of the stream. The water where Aki stood probably came up to the kits shoulders and she tried her best to wash off in it before Loco and Jay started their splash war... Which didn't take long.

"Stay in this part of the stream you too." Aki told the kits while she walked back to her napsack. She knew the two would do as their were told long enough for her to bring some water to Aida. Aki took the pan she used to transport water out of the sack and filled it before walking back to the scout and setting it before her.

"Here, have a drink, Aida." Aki said with a warm smile. Though Aida was not a kit, Aki could not help feeling compelled to care for all of her fellow Gypsys.

Seeing that there was nothing left for him to do at camp besides get food, Iku trotted off into the surrounding forest to hunt for birds or other small creatures. He hated hunting. Well, really he just hated getting blood on his fur, it was just so nasty. But since Shori had left to wander with his family, Iku was the only one suited for the job. Every time he left to hunt, he swore that as soon as another fox joined that had hunting skill, Iku would claim that he was unsuited for the job and the new fox must take over. Then he could stick to being a gatherer or something less icky. Until then, he would have to suck it up and feed his family.

Loco pounced her brother before scampering off to follow Aki to the stream. Eh. She didn't really like water and getting wet, it made her fur feel funny. She poked at the water, seeing just how wet it was and judging the temperature. The water here didn't seem to bad. It was still water though... She'd still get wet. Loco watched Aki bathe in a bit deeper part of the stream, even though even that wasn't really deep. She was debating on tip-toeing in when a ball of blue, purple, and pink collided with her, throwing both of them into the stream.

"OH! IT'S ON JAY!" Loco announced as she began splashing as much water as she could at her brother in revenge.

Jay was about to pounce his sister back when he heard Rina address him. "Well, if we're gonna walk more tomorrow, we should go someplace cool!" he said with a smile and a wag of his tail. Lately, the clan had just been in forests and places where nothing really exciting was going on. Jay was ready to live out some of the stories he had heard from Aki and meet new tribes and foxes and run into danger. "But yes, I am satisfied." And with that, he turned and headed towards the stream to give Loco an over due pounce.

Aida looked up from her half-daze when she hear dher voice being called. Stirred from whatever she'd been daydreaming about, the vixen focused in on Aki and realized she'd been offering water.

"Thank you, Aki," she said through a yawn, standing and stretching her limbs. It had been a lot of traveling today, even for her, and her paws were ready for the break from walking. With easy grace she bent her head down and drank from the pan Aki carried around until she'd had enough, then looked over at the kits playing. "They're a handful, hm?" she chuckled quietly.

Talya hedge dcloser to her mother's tribe, tail swishing anxiously. She'd been following them for a few days, which had been no easy task, between that scout and just all of the members in general. The new adult wasn't sure why she was so afraid of approaching the..the..Gyp...sy Clan? Yes, that was the name of her mother's tribe.

Perhaps it was because she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to join this tribe. Up until a few days ago, Talya had considered beign tribeless, or joining Imri in that giant tree place. But it had gotten tiring, only knowing her sblings and Daddy, and Talya wished to know more of the outside world, and her mother. She hadn't been aorund much when Talya was a kit; she and Daddy divided the three of them down the middle, so she hadn't seen hardly ever.

Or Arian, but Talya was beginning to feel like it wasn't a huge loss to be sepearated from her twin with wings. Arian was nuts, and Talya certianly didn't share her vindictive, temperamental nature.

But she needed to stop stalling. Talya wasn't going to know her mother or the other tribe members any better if she just stood here. Besides, she was exhausted, and her legs were achey and shaking. Passing out and letting the others get a whole day ahead would probably mean she should just trudge back to the old clearing she grew up in.

Heaving a sigh, Talya willed her legs to keep working and padded into the midst of the group, not sure whether she should treeat her mother like a parent or an Elder. Mom had always been a little weird, after all. Tal paused and cleared her throat, then hesitantly spoke up. "Hello, mother," she sai dquietly, repressing her usually playful nature. For the first time she remembered, she was being shy.

"We are heading towards someplace interesting right now," Rina promised her grandson. The young ones had never seen the homeland before, nor anything quite like it, so going to that place might sate their hungering to see somewhere different.

Rina then heard the modifox--who had been following them the past few days, whom Rina had let follow, judging him or her to be of no threat to her clan--approach their encampment.

She was taken aback to discover that the modifox, whom she had thought was a stranger perhaps interested in joining the clan, was instead none other than one of her daughters.

"Hello, Talya," Rina greeted in turn. It was easy to see that the girl was exhausted--the pace of the clan was hard to follow for those unused to travel. "Rest here a while," she commanded, then fetched some water from the stream, and offered her portion of food to her daughter. If Talya could barely keep the pace of the clan, it was unlikely she had drank nor eaten in several days.

Once Rina was assured that Talya was properly cared for, only then did Rina ask: "What brings you here to this clan?"

Talya laid down as soon as she was instructed to, barely represisng a sigh of relief. She couldn't be weak in front of her mother. Daddy might be brute force, but mother was a whole different kind of strong. It would be shameful not to be strong like her.

When her mother brought food and water, Talya gladly took some of both, although she made sure not to eat all of the food. Her mother was Elder, and it wouldn't be wise for her to go hungry. "I followed you because I was curious, mother," she answered simply. "Now that my siblings and I are adults, we've started trying to find our own ways. I couldn't stay with Daddy forever, and I wanted to know more about you and this tri..clan. Place."

Smooth, Tal. She made a face at her own poor choice of words, then looked up at her mother. "I'm not asking to join, at least not yet," she explained. "But I wanted to see you."

Which brought her back to the point that there were strangers all around them. A pair of kits, the purple and white vixen who she'd realized was a scout, and two other foxes somewhat close to the scout. It seemed...small, but she'd heard many tribes had lost members recently.

Used to being on her toes around Uncle Tio and Daddy (and Arian, unfortunately, now that she was big), Talya edged closer to her mother, subconsciously seeking protection only a parent could provide.

User ImageOh, the thrill of adventure! Meeting new foxes, exploring new lands,.. What's there not to like? There really should be something of a tribe dedicated to such treks. You know, a bunch of foxes who'd run around exploring. That would be fun! Izotz would tag along for sure~ And yet. Wait a second, hadn't he heard of one like that before? Nah, he couldn't have. Or could he? When you're as busy with walking around all day as Izotz it kinda gets hard to track of all the things you see. And find out. I mean, the world is big! Or at least Izotz tought it was. Maybe he's just going in circles around the small world and thinking it's big? Nah. That would be weird. Wait, what was he thinking about again? Ah yes. Adventure. The thrill of adventure! Meeting... No, wasn't he already over this part. Silly Izotz.

The cyan fox looked around again. As always, he was in an interesting land, propably bursting with adventure to be found! Izotz stopped for a moment, closed his eyes, then sat down. Life was to be heard around him. The wind, the whispering trees, the bugs and rodents around. Every new land held new experiences. Did he tell you he really liked adventure yet? Yes? Oh, alright.

Wait a second. Izotz could also hear water. A river or stream, possibly? That would be convenient, seeing as it'd be a good place to sleep. You know. With it being a stream and near water so he could get up in the morning and drink already. And stuff. You know.

The male got back up and moved to the stream, sitting down besides it and taking a few sips of water from it. Refreshing. He had managed to get thirsty from the last time he drank. When he finished drinking, Izotz lifted his head again, to examine where he actually was more closely. A few trees, the stream. A casual forest setting, and a nice place to rest. Then he noticed that apparently there were other foxes here. How exciting! Indeed, two of them, kits, were playing in front of him on the other side of the stream, be it not a lot of feet in width.

"Hello there!" Izotz greeted, not to anyone in particular.

So, there had been not one, but two other modifoxes following the clan.

She did not recognize this male, but he seemed to not be near as tired as her daughter: that bespoke of a physical fitness, and perhaps one accustomed to traveling long distances as the clan did.

Rina rose from her daughter's side, now that she knew Talya was cared fore, and approached the new male.

"Who are you, and what brings you to our encampment?" she asked of him.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 07, 2010 10:02 pm

Loco jumped as she heard and unfamiliar male voice greet her tribe from across the stream. She turned to see a bright blue fox that could almost rival her father and brother in the bright shades of his fur. She knew better than to approach him, but he didn't seem hostile or anything, so a greeting couldn't be a bad thing.

"Hiiii!" She called out to him excitedly.

Jay jumped at the same time as his sister and for the same reasoning. Some bright blue male had appeared out of nowhere! He seemed pretty cool though. Seeing as how his sister had beaten him to the greeting and Rina was now making her way over to question him, Jay returned to his water fight.

"Not hardly." Aki said with a small laugh. "Iku was much more to handle than both of those two combined." Which was true since her son was still a handful to take care of at times. Speaking of children, it seemed one of Rina's newest children had found her way to them.

Aki's ears perked up as an unfamiliar voice called out not to far from where the kits were playing. Within seconds the rainbow spotted vixen was near the stream, observing the male who approached. After a quick read of his body language and aura, Aki did not view him as a treat and decided to greet Talya while Rina greeted the new comer.

"It's nice to meet you Talya. I'm Aki, the Clan's career. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask me." She gave the younger vixen a warm smile.

((And Iku is still off hunting b/c I don't feel like typing for four foxes XD Sorry it took so long!))

Talya sighed as her mother got off and left without another word. She understood Mother was Elder and alll, but still, she'd never even gotten a response from her before she went off to yet another stranger. That kinda stung.

Why couldn't Talya be unemotional (or at least unattached) like the rest of her damn siblings? Then it wouldn't matter that Daddy only put up with her and didn't really like normal foxes and that Mother had hardly ever been involved with her. But it did matter. Only no one had ever taken the time to notice.

And now she was stuck here for no real reason; Mother didn't appear anymore interested than Daddy was. Cool.

She noticed after a moment that she was being spoken to, and Talya glanced over at the source. A brightly colored vixen was speaking to her, and Talya returned her smile with a weak imitation of one. "Thanks," she murmured before setting her head back on her paws. Normally she was just as bright and happy, but now she was just tired and lonely.

The new modifox had wandered off again, and so Rina resumed her place next to Talya and Aki. Now that the clan business was concluded, she could return to more personal matters.

"How have you and your siblings been?" Rina asked, genuinely curious. She knew that none of her nine children shared her passion for wandering, but even so, one or another of them may have been to some interesting place she herself had yet to see.

"I don't know, Mother. We do not see each other anymore." Which she would know if she had a teaspoon of interest in maintaining relationships with her own offspring. It wasn't their fault she'd had accidents with two other foxes.

"Arian left first. I stayed with Dad for awhile, then I followed you. That's all I know."

What was she doing here? Talya knew perfectly well her mother was dispassionate about anything but her wandering. Mother was strange, and hardly nurturing. She probably would have been better off trying to find companionship in a stranger. Which, if she was being truthful, her mother was. All Talya had ever known about her was that she was the Gypsy Elder and had other children besides them.

Talya let out the tiniest sigh. All she wanted was to find a place, or a tribe, to call home, and neither of her parents could help.

"I am sorry for troubling you and your tribe, Mother. Perhaps it was foolish of me to come."
