Melchy was oblivious to the girl's siren thoughts, and instead was concentrating rather hard on the shelves in front of him, trying to find something that was simultaneously nice enough that Keres wouldn't think he had half-assed the job and yell at him, but normal enough that she wouldn't think he was trying something sketchy and yell at him. The yelling would be inevitable, he assumed, but it was nice to think. Flicking his tail, he looked over at the box Casia had picked up and tilted his head. "Truffles...yeah," he said slowly, taking it from her and inspecting the box. Keres would probably appreciate that.
"Yeah," he repeated, "I think these'll work really well. Lovely! Thanks, Casia!" Grinning at her, he nodded eagerly and then turned back to the shelves to get candy for himself. He knew Casia was getting him something, but there was no such thing as "too much candy".
...except when you were Katrina. "Melchizedek, don't you think you have enough?" the pirate captain asked as she rounded the corner, smiling slightly when her young charge jumped a foot into the air with a yowl and came down facing her, his tail a bottlebrush. "Look at that, you've got two boxes already."
"Not f'r me, Cap'n, f'r Keres an' Casia," Melchy insisted, pointing to the siren girl in emphasis. Katrina raised her eyebrows and looked at the girl, smiling when she realized she had seen the child before.
"Hello," she said, then turned back to Melchizedek. "All the better, then. You can all exchange gifts on Valentine's Day, and I don't have to buy you any candy at all." Melchizedek's protests were lost on her, and she smiled again at Casia before gripping Melchizedek firmly by the scruff of the neck. "And now I think it's time to say goodbye to your lady-friend. I've cooking to do."
Growling and trying to twist out of Katrina's grip, Melchy faced Casia and grimaced. Parents sucked. "Guess I gotta go, Casia," he said. "Sorry. See you on Valentine's Day though, maybe?"

Casia smiled. "Glad to help." she assured him. She just hoped Keres liked them, she didn't want to get Melchy in trouble.
She looked up in surprise as the vaguely familiar face of Melchy's mom came into view. "Hello, Captain." she said to the woman, and then looked back at Melchy disappointedly. "Oh! Okay. Um, yeah, see you later! On Valentine's day?" The siren hoped so, but she doubted she'd get a chance to see everyone, even if everyone was currently a list of three. She seemed to only meet people by accident these days. She watched him go and then turned around to find Jane. She had some chocolate to buy.
