"Yes," the hare answered quickly and defiantly, as if challenging the pregnant lioness to say something about it. It showed, it showed in how she was sitting, how fidgety she had been and her reaction to the talk of outsiders. If she had a mate, Mnyama was sure she would have heard about it. This was so delightfully dramatic to learn about, and Mnyama wanted to enjoy it for what it was worth. She could hardly point out how funny it was that Anga was pregnant by a rogue when she had been so cranky about when her grandmother was pregnant with Kafara and Kutunza.
Kafara hesitated at the question, recognizing it as a sort of trick. Nevertheless, her eyes went to Angavu's middle. She didn't know all about how you get cubs, but she did know that they started off there, in their mother's stomach. Or something.
"Cubs," she said again, this time without the question. She was quiet again otherwise, though. She didn't know what she was supposed to say now. This was certainly a different subject!

"Yes," she repeated, shooting a glare at Mnyama and then looking at Kafara, "Cubs." So she had stunned them, but they had asked! And she had .. sort of tied it into the goings on, the conversation she had walked in on. Perhaps she would pick another time to tell her grandmother, this was more than enough excitement about it. Angavu did not care to deal with it all herself, wondering if perhaps she might get the details to pass around through the youth.
"So, you'll have to promise to help me, Kafara," she restated, "But you can't tell anybody about this yet." She said it, but her hope was quite the opposite. Cubs were not good secret keepers and she was counting on that. Kafara would spread the word for her and in the process learn that it was easy to obtain forgiveness. The fact that she had such a clever idea made Anga smile, perhaps she would be able to handle this.

Mnyama glared back without hesitation, this was going to be interesting. Extremely interesting. She said nothing else as the lioness addressed Kafara again, glaring and frowning the whole while. She thought it was very foolish of Angavu to expect Kafara to keep a secret, though if any of the cubs would keep it a secret it was her. She was starting to wonder if something had happened to Anga that made her this dumb so suddenly.
Who knew.
"I- I-" Kafara hesitated, wondering momentarily if she was being tricked somehow in all of this. She would be more social if it would help Angavu, she guessed.
"I promise," she agreed, frowning through the idea of keeping it secret. If her mom asked, or her brother asked, she wouldn't be able to lie to them! But they would never ask if Anga was going to have cubs, that would be so specific.. she just kept nodding along instead of verbalizing a response to the rest of it.

Glad she had not mentioned where she was headed, Anga realized she could easily take her leave of the unusual pair now. She dared to smile at them despite the glare from Mnyama and the stammering from Kafara. This had been amusing enough, and her method of informing everybody else was both easy and high in potential for creating more entertainment.
"Good," she said, "Then I'll just go back on my way, sorry to have intruded on your little argument." She tried not to grin so much, but it was hard. She winked at Kafara and then jogged off, going the way she had been traveling when she first showed up- but she did not go to where she had first intended. Instead, she doubled back around to head back for home. Perhaps now was a good time to consider finding herself her own den!

Mnyama plopped onto the ground, sitting uncomfortably on her tail but not entirely sure what else there was for her to do. She watched the golden lioness walk away from them after such a surprising announcement. She was going to give that brat a piece of her mind later on, that was for certain. With a sigh, she looked over at Kafara and shrugged.
Kafara watched Anga go as well, looking back in time to watch Mnyama hit the ground. She had been hoping for something to put an end to their fighting, but she hadn't expected anything like that. The family was already gigantic, especially from the small one's point of view. Now it would get larger and she could not tell her mother or her brother. She kept her eyes at Mnyama's, sighing along with the hare.
Fin.
