Aki watched her frowning, he hoped he hadn't said anything wrong, she was starting to look terrified and he felt bad thinking it was his fault. He chuckled and nodded "Oh... I didn't notice because you blend in so well I guess I just thought you sort of melded in with the river," he said looking at the return of her panicked expression and he smiled hoping that would help. "Weeelll.... I'm not entirely sure, I suppose it's partly curiousity and partly... something else," he shrugged. "I can stop caring if you want, though you look like you need someone to care, if you don't mind me saying."

Mau didn't know why, but a small tear built up behind her eyes. When she blinked, she saw it fall into the water and send a ripple about her paws, but for a moment she did not register that the tears were her own. He.... he cared because he wanted to...? I thinks I need some one to care for me...? Do I...? Wait... what am I thinking... all my life I am waiting for some one to care... and now some one does and I am just letting them walk by...? Am I mad?! ... yes... yes you are mad.... if you were sane, then you wouldn't be so darn scared of everything! Mau lifted her head, but kept her eyes on the ground, she just couldn't bring herself to look him in the eyes, it was too much all at once. "P... please don't stop caring... it is wonderful t...to know someone c...cares..."

Aki looked at her rather shocked as he saw the tear drip down her face, "I didn't mean to make you cry!" he said rather panicked, "don't cry, please..." he looked at her rather desperately. He looked down at his paws and shifted awkwardly, he didn't like making girls cry, and now he felt terrible. Hearing her words he smiled and looked up before walking up to her and sitting a few inches away, "of course, I'll keep caring for as long as you want me to, " he said in a near whisper. "Everyone needs someone to care... Including you, so I'm glad that you think it's wonderful."

(( Oh god... He's done it know... Mau is going to think Aki is her savior... XP ))

Mau stiffened slightly as Aki moved closer, she couldn't help it. She could only improve so much in such a short amount of time. Deep in her mind, Mau knew that he was now close enough to attack her before she could run. She turned her head away from him, still staring into the water, heat rushing into her face. She was blushing! Whether from panic or from relief, Mau was not sure, but it was a reaction she had never had, never felt. "I... I am glad t... to... I d...don't want you t..to go away. J... just promise m...me you wont g...get mad..." Mau whispered back, hoping he would promise her that.

(XD I'm not sure whether or not to feel bad for him)

Aki smiled watching her, wondering what she was thinking. He watched her happily and chuckled, "I won't get mad or go away " he nodded, "why would I get mad at you anyway?" he tilted his head to the side and gazed upon her, "you seem pretty sweet and shy, and those are no reasons to get mad at someone for, they are actually pretty good qualities." He smiled, "there's nothing to worry about at all." He pawed at the water rather awkwardly slightly embarrassed by his own words.

(( She will want to become his shadow most likely... to her, Aki is like a knight in shining armor... XP ))

Mau lifted her head slightly, and turned it towards him, wanting to look so badly into his eyes to see if he was telling the truth, but just not able to get all the way there. She instead stared at his furry chest, trying to grasp for her words of gratitude. He is being nice... genuinely nice... maybe he won't hurt me after all.. She took a deep breath and replied with a voice that barely stuttered this time, "I'm just... scared..."

(XD like a stalker? >XD joking of course, Aki will be fine with that )

Aki smiled and crouched down so he could get a better look at her face now that she was finally looking at him. He tilted his head and frowned, "scared of what? If it's my fault I apologize, I didn't mean to scare you." He stared at her lookig rather concerned, "there's nothing around here to be scared of as far as I know... this forest is pretty tame" he chuckled, "though it's alright to be scared every once and a while." he turned around glanced into the trees, "no giant boars or anything as far as I know around here..."

Mau kept her face turned towards Aki, but made sure her eyes never made contact with Aki's. "There are many things to be af..f....fraid of. Like lightning, and the dark, and tree falling, and angry elders, and fire, and drowning, and teeth, and heat stroke, and biting bugs, and poisonous plants and.... and... everything has the potential to be scary...." Mau swished her tail back and forth at the thought of all the scary things that plagued every single day of her life....

Aki chuckled as he watched her, listening to her long list of fears, he had never met someone so afraid of... just about everything, "Ah but how many times have you been struck by lightening? How many times has the dark hurt you? How many times have you drowned?" He tilted his head, "the reason most people aren't so afraid is because the likelihood of those things happening is very very small, plus most people have someone to help and protect them." He smiled brightly, "there is nothing to fear if you have someone beside you."

Mau's eyes opened even wider as she realized something, Aki was right. But but... but... but... Mau shivered and replied, "And...? So...? It still happens... dragonfly still get hit by lightning, they drown, they get lost in the dark, never to find themselves again..." Mau looked down and continued in a small voice, "And what happens when the ones that promise to protect you end up hurting you? How can you trust anything to be safe and nice, when everything that was once safe and nice grows long teeth and sharp claws that turn on you when you need the niceness the most..."

Aki tilted his head, there really was nothing to be afraid of in his opinion due to the likelihood of most of those things happening. He frowned, was she in denial? Did something terrible happen that made her so unwilling to be unafraid? "But most of those things are so unlikely to happen that you shouldn't waste away your life worrying about them," he frown deepened, so something did happen... "Then run, run as far as you can from them, people who do that sort of thing are scum and the safest thing to do is escape in that case. If you can't fight then run..."

Mau frowned and turned her head away completely away as angry tears stung her eyes, that was not the answer she was looking for. She was not sure if Aki was just tactless or heartless. Well... he certainly isn't HEARTless or else I would have been attacked by now... but... oh... I don't know... I wish he knew what I was thinking, I wish I was brave enough to say what I think and tell him what I mean... but I can barely choke out a sentence! And he was wrong... it was those people that did not worry about all the things that could go wrong that end up getting hurt when they make stupid choices... but... wait... At least... at least they enjoy life...

Mau shuddered and sighed, her lip quivering a bit as her fought to hold back the tears that were now welling up on her eyes. They were no longer just angry tears, but tears of frustration and helplessness. Her angry and frustration were no overwhelming her terror and fear which was causing her tongue to loosen up just enough so that she could speak freely, "I have ran... I always run... I run from everything and everyone that has the potential to be scary. But that is the problem... how do you know who to run from? How can you tell that someone or something will ultimately hurt you? Maybe... maybe I wouldn't run so much if there was someone out there who cared enough about me to protect me... but that's also a problem... what happens when you need to be protected from the protector?"

Aki sighed, he had managed to say something wrong yet again hadn't he? He sat there silently waiting for some sort of response, wondering if he should apologize, the whole situation was just so awkward. He looked at her, starting to fill with self-loathing, hating the idea that he had made a girl cry.

At her words he looked shocked, had she really had such a terrible experience when she was younger that she had spent her life running from everything? HE stared down at his paws thinking, this was a very tough thing to respond too, it was such a delicate matter. "Sometimes... sometimes you just have to be willing to take that chance, we all do whenever we befriend someone don't we? We risk the chance of being betrayed, but we... recover." He said that last word and took a deep breath, "you can count on me."

Mau bristled and her head snapped up; she then, for the first time in a very long time, stared into some one's eyes. Her tears stopped falling, but now they pooled on her eyelashes, making her eyes over bright. She growled angrily, and then pulled back and whimpered. Mau was now extremely confused, she wasn't sure how to feel with all these strange new emotions bubbling inside of her. For some reason, she felt just a little bit braver around this male, or maybe it was just her anger that was fueling her new found courage; well, whatever it was, Mau was not planning to wait around and let it fade. "You just don't get it do you?! I don't even KNOW you, and you don't even know me! Yes, you seem like a very nice guy, you haven't hurt me, and all you've been so far is kind and caring. But I can't just throw it all away, all the terror and the hurt... I can't count on you, not yet... Don't say things like that so loosely..." She frowned but then gasped and flopped onto the ground, pressing her paws over her head and face, "Oh my lord oh my lord oh my lord... I'm sorry... don't hurt me... I just... its true!"
