In order for Envy to join Akatsuki, either he'll have to somehow steal Orochimaru's Akatsuki ring, or wait for another Akatsuki member to die.

Hm, dunno how he'd go about stealing the ring, though he certainly wouldn't mind killing off whoever stands in his way if the finds the group interesting enough...
Maybe just have him as a sort of ally? Like, not official Akatsuki, but likes what they do so isn't against helping out?
