Wow, I suddenly feel bad for ranting. That is just an awful situation to be in, but you seem to have a wonderful attitude about it. No mother should cut off contact like that , especially due to beliefs.
And really, how good is a religion for you if it causes you to shun your family?

Oh believe me, I have my bad moments. I recently went through one when I sent gifts for xmas and got a card back saying that I could send gifts to my brother- but not to send her(my mom) anything again.

Oh, I was very upset- I cried. But I have a wonderful husband who gave me a hug and helped me cheer up. I just try to move on, and focus on the good things. smile There are people in the world much worse off than us- I try to remind myself of that.

Regarding her religion, G'ma & I have talked about it and we wonder if her church my be a cult. Not like a suicidal cult or anything- but they seem to have some very strong beliefs that have caused my Mom to cut out most of her family. I'm just honestly not sure what I could do about it, or if I should to be honest.

edit: Ooo cybercookies! I think those are on my diet! lol biggrin

Mmmmmmm....cookies! actually, i do pastry so thats not that far fetched. how about some basics? chocolate chip sugar cookies? and milk... or petit au chocolate?

I guess all in all, we will always have something to complain about, something will always be 'wrong in our lives. but its how we handle that that shows our true colors.

Ah, that was beautiful, Twilight. ^_^

And no Christmas gifts?! Jeeze, I think it's really sweet of you to send her gifts after the way she treats you.
Hmm, there was a Christian cult like that where I used to live. Apparently, they monitered who their members dated and such. Eesh o_o
And they think we're a cult! lol

Not to go too far off topic, but is that a particular Goddess in your signature? I was just curious of the meaning of it.

Oh, that is Psyche, the goddess of the soul. She's Eros' lover. ^_^
It's actually a kind of random piece of art Ifound and thought pretty. Eros and Psyche are one of my favorite couples in mythology.

*snortrofl* Uh oh. I was on my dad's ebay account when I was searching for a pentacle necklace. Now his Ebay page is suggesting all the pentacle items to him that it can find. I might hear about that later...

Bleh. That is very silly. But I know how you feel. For now, it might just be a good idea to not be too open about it. Maybe you should have a private discussion with your mom so she can see how you feel, and vice versa. Generally, parents just want what's best for their kid, and if something unknown and potentially "dangerous" comes up there is a natural instinct of protection. I know it's pretty hard to understand this when it means something totally different for you, but try to remain understandable and calm when you talk to her. My mom has been teaching my brother all about Christianity and there's nothing wrong with that but now he thinks that's like, the only thing that everybody knows and believes in. He's only 8, and I keep my mouth shut (about pretty much everything), but it really bothers me. I'm waiting until he's older before I tell him my beliefs. My mom probably worries that he'll end up like me, so maybe that's why she's starting him early rolleyes The thing that bothers me most is my parents making fun of me, when they're not even willing to talk to me about it. I still mention things to my brothers though, about respecting other living things including plants and animals, and to be grateful for what they have, etc. It would not be a good idea to mention witchcraft or anything specific and religious, though. You might want to keep your books in your bedroom, and maybe not look up paganish things on your dads Ebay account.

Well, good luck...

Are you sure she didnt mean the talk on 'sex' and all that?

That would be, in my opinion, quite inappropriate to discuss One's brother there - no matter the age.

And i really cant empathize with you on that, my family doesn't really care about anything.

I have girlfriends/boyfriends - they dont care.
I have sex - they dont care.
I want to marry a man from England - they dont care.

im sorry. i think that would be hard in not harder to go through. I hope that it works out with the man from England though.

Though i did research Eros and Psyche, and i actually knew it by heart! go figure, research brings up the child hood memories.

My family totally has no clue and it will remain that way. My dad gives me random lectures because of some of the FICTION books I read. He has asked me multiple times in the past "U believe in GOD (christian parents UGH) right, Terra?" and its like back off already. I have become very good at lying to my parents unfortunately. My mom and aunt gave me a lecture when I was 8 or 9 that reading HARRY POTTER would "open up my soul for the devil" that was their exact words to me. I hate having to listen to the lectures on religion and unfortunately they usually occur when me and my dad are in the car on the way home from school so I'm a captive audience. Sometime it makes me want to scream. I am terrified to buy books or to study other then in the dead of night at like 1 in the morning when everyone is asleep cause if I am caught my parents will perform an exocism on me and when that doesn't work they will disown me. It sucks having such a hard core christian family. Everyone but one of my sisters isn't hard core but she is still christian. The stuff I do manage to study in the open I pass off as a hobby dealing with ancient cultures and what they believe, random stuff I read in books and want to know more about, and that sort of thing. It works great as long as I am careful not to use words like magic, wicca, pagan, or anything like that.

Oh i know what its like to have people think the belief in the goddess is inappropriate for young children, and yet they think christianity is all wholesome, i mean seriously have any of them read the bible, its quite a comedy to me actually, but everyone has their own truth, and has their free will............ but come on, i mean in the bible its all murder blood hell satan evil wraith death and in some parts sex, yeah that sure is appropriate for young children, now isn't it......

I, personally have not had this kind of thing happen to me. The reason for that is probably the fact that I don't tell very many people(I don't really hide it from people, but I don't think that it is necessary to tell people).
I do, however, wish that people would end this "wicca-is-a-crazy-bloody-satanistic-demonic-baby-kicking-whore-making-death-bringing-cult" idea. Ignorance is not bliss for the informed. Last year(I'm new to Wicca, and then I wasn't even following this path) I was wearing an Evanescence shirt and someone walked up to me and said "Is that like satan worshiping or something?" This year, just a couple weeks ago, I mentioned Wicca and one of my friends said "Cool! So you like summon demons and send them at people?" I can empathize. burning_eyes

All I think we can do is inform people about the truth and maybe one day we will have peace here and at least respect. Until then, we have eachother

^That is one of my favourite myths.

And back to what I was going to say sweatdrop ....Luckily I have no siblibgs who are too young but I have to keep explaining to my grandmother about Wicca: "not black magic" kind of thing. She'll never let it go but she says I can do whatever as long as I go to her church with her on Sunday...which I don't like anyway (no early morning).

Sorry about the rant but I think it was a "bear with it" speach...I've forgotten by now
