Zara was amused by the small flutters form. Never had she realized that soquili could change size so abruptly, though she did seem to recall stories of flutters. . . . Part of the mare had once thought them to be rumors, or at very least exaggerations passed from one soquili to the next. But Laures had proved everything she had thought she understood to be true. They were blessed with fragile but beautiful wings, and could well indeed transform their size and shape.

Her sisters would be impressed.

"Someday it is, my fine sir," she added with a chuckle, giving her long tail a small swish and shake. "I do indeed enjoy putting on a performance, but too frequently is it only for my own sake. I don't often get a good reason to perform." And wasn't that the truth!

She could dance for her parents, her sisters, for her own love of movement and grace but it wasn't enough; she wasn't a well known gypsy like her mother nor did she ever suspect fame would find her. She was just a mare, a beautiful mare, mind, who had been granted the art of grace. . . .

To finally find one who was intrigued by such a thing was good fortune for Zara and she would not forget his request to perform. If not today than someday, guaranteed.

"To the ice caves it is," she quipped merrily, eyes bright with amusement. Giving a small shake of her dreadfully long locks, the mare sauntered in to an easy trot as she made her way through the woods. It wouldn't be too terribly long a trip, but with the sunshine on her back and a spring preview surrounding them, Zara couldn't think of a more beautiful day. "Assuming they haven't melted by now," she added with a saucy grin.

Laures was blissfully unaware of the amusement the mare felt dealt with him. Unaware that most who had not come into contact with those of his kind thought of the flutter's ability to change their size as myth. He could tell that something amused her, but attributed it to the fact that she was a generally good-tempered mare with a good sense of humor.

Oblivious, he felt that it was probably rude to remain in his favored form, and if there was one thing he could truly not abide it was rudeness, so he reluctantly gave up the freedom and joy of his smaller form and joined the unicorn in full size but without the usual sense of it being required. No, this time it was by choice.

Content that Zara was okay with his request about performing not then, but someday, Laures relaxed and his normal exuberant nature shone through as he joined the mare easily keeping up with her gentle trot. This was turning out to be a lovely day indeed. The weather was starting to turn ( he hoped) and he encountered company unlike any he was used to, and he was going on an adventure to see a sight not yet encountered on his travels.

The pathless wanderer had located a new direction, a new course to be set, and he had this lovely young mare to thank. As they trotted, questions began to arise about what they were going to see, and though he had been taught that it was impolite to ask too many questions, he couldn't stop the flooding of words from his lips.

"How far away are these caves? Are they uninhabited? Do they only exist in winter? How could they melt with just one day of unseasonable warmth? How? Why? What do they look like?" He chattered away and started bouncing up and down on his hooves as he had not done since he was a young colt.

Zara was pleased to have met such good company, though she found Laures to be a bit distracting. His shape changing ability was unusual at best and she found it odd having to focus upon his minature fluttering shape. It also surprised her when he would just as easily swap in to a full sized soquili. . . . it was absolutely amazing.

Sure, her family had been graced to be the most beautiful and most wonderful of soquili kinds; they could heal as well as protect and defend with their spiral horns. But to transform in to something so small and miniature on a whim? No . . . . Never had she witnessed such a sight and it wasn't something she would likely forget anytime soon. Just wait until her mother and sisters heard about this most fabulous adventure!

Pink ears pricked as the stallion began to question their future adventure. She didn't find his curiosity rude and was pleased that he seemed so intrigued by their travels. It wasn't everyday she met a stallion so willing to participate in her adventures much less seem so keen on discovery! "The caves are probably a couple miles north of here, so we're not too far. These woods will turn into a more mountainous path. I haven't met too many strangers out and about the ice caves, but then I've only been here a time or two myself. My mother brought me as a younger filly during the height of winter and it was indeed a lovely sight." Giving her tail a happy swish, Zara picked up the pace of her trot if only so they might more swiftly reach their destination.

"I suppose it would take more than just one day to melt the caves, though the entrance to it might be a little damp. From what I heard is most of the caves are frozen year round as the sunlight doesn't reach certain areas; then again, you can't reach the heart of the cave during spring and summer as the water surrounding the mouth of the entrance is melted makig it impossible to reach. You'll see soon enough though . . . I promise!"

The sun shone bright and warm on his dark coat and warmed the gentle breeze that played across his wings, and Laures felt content, truly happy and at peace for the first time in a while. An adventure, a lovely day and even more lovely companion- there was truly nothing more he could ask for.

"It must be wonderful to have a family to share such adventures with," Laures commented softly, wistfully, as he picked up his pace to match that of his companion.

Even the threat of potential wetness and dripping water- he shuddered at the thought of waterlogged wings and the inability to fly that caused- at the entrance of the caves was not enough to dampen his good spirits and desire to see this wonderous sight.

Laures listened intently, determined to learn as much as he could about the caves before getting there, happy that the mare was willing to indulge his curiosity, his mind conjuring up images of what he thought the caves might look like based on her words....

It was hard to pay attention to his surroundings while so engrossed in what the mare was saying and his own thoughts, but even he could notice the forest beginning to thin and the increasing incline of the path they were following. They seemed to be slowly coming upon the path to the caves, coming ever closer to their destination. A slight fear came upon the flutter- while he was beyond excited to see the adventure through to the end, it would also mean an end to the day and the company he found so enthralling, company he was loathe to give up so soon.

Zara said nothing for a moment as they continued their walk. His comment about her family did cause her a moments curiosity; he spoke as if he had no family in which to share anything with, and to Zara that was both strange and surprising. Though her own family harbored strict rules and a just as strict upbringing, the mare frequently assumed that others lived similarly. How could a mare abandon her foals or a stallion his place at the head of the herd?

"My family has indeed shared many travels and stories; my mother is. . .was . . .a gypsy until she met my father. But. . . " Zara hesitated, flicking an ear before glancing over at her winged companion. "Have you no family of your own?" She couldn't help but question, but wonder. "Forgive my impertinence," she hastily pleaded, lowering her head in a moments embarrassment. "It isn't my place to question such a thing."

Oh ho, if Baldev had been present she would have been in a great amount of trouble! Not only would he disapprove of her associating with a non-uni but to hear her blithe comment, prying in to his life as two mere acquaintances, he would have hit the roof!

Certainly she knew better than to poke and pry.

The land was indeed beginning to transform. The thick foliage that had once surrounded them was beginning to thin out and lessen. The ground began losing its moist soil and more and more stones and dirt were becoming present. The thick scent of melting snow and water tickled the nose. . . With the area familiar to the pink and silver mare, she knew it wouldn't be long now.

((I'll post images of the cave next post. ;3 Apologies for the brevity! ))

Laures ducked his head swiftly for a moment to hide the flicker of sadness at his lack of rememberance of his family. Almost as quick as the sadness came, it was replaced by his natural jovial tendencies. He wasn't one to be upset about anything, and this was no different.

After asking his own impertinent questions about her own family, either directly or implied, he had been expecting her to ask her own about his family, so he wasn't offended though he knew this was improper between mere aquaintences. He had thought himself prepared to answer any questions she might have thought to ask, but now that she had he found himself hesitant.

Instead of directly answering her query, or acknowledging the apology, Laures drew a breath to begin his story, hoping that he could get it all out without interruption. It was hard enough to tell as it was.

"Once upon a time, there was a ... content family of flutters. The mother was a wandering bard who met and fell in love with a rather shady... let's just call him a rogue. For a time, they were happy, wandering from land to land. One day, the mare gave birth to three little flutter foals. Two perfect little fillies, adored by both mom and dad. The third foal was a fragile colt, who needed extra care. The parents resented him for that. Only his eldest sister, who grew up before her time seemed to care.

No one knows of much of the little colt's childhood and even his early adulthood. All that is known is that the two young one's were close, despite the wishes of their parents.

Then one day there was an accident of some kind, and the young stallion awoke in a strange land, bearing few memories of who he was or what had happened. All he knew was his name, and he longed to wander. Throughout his travels he started to remember what had been lost in the accident, but he knew there was little chance he would ever fully recover. As he wandered and remembered more of his past and his self, he realised that family while it is a wonderful thing is not what he needed for himself- the ties to his parents, anyway. Now he just wanders."

He turned his head away, fearing to see pity in the mare's face. He refused to be an object of pity for anyone. He was no longer that pathetic fragile foal, no longer a burden. He was more than capable of caring for himself, though he greatly enjoyed the company of others and longed for a relationship like that between his parents-even if it didn't extend to include him as a part of the family. He continued to walk beside her his head averted. These memories were slightly painful still, the sense of ostracism and not belonging. He couldn't stand it if she rejected him for this revelation, and so steeled his heart against her reaction. He hoped this didn't change what had been an easy camradarie so far. It was obvious that she wouldn't be able to truly understand his rather easy dismissal of his family when she was a part of such a close one. Pasting a smile back on his face, he finally looked back at the mare. Deep, slow breaths, he cautioned himself trying to control the expression on his face and keep the mild fear in the back of his mind.

Zara listened with great interest to the tale Laures told. She was rather fascinated by the entire thing, even though she understood that this wasn't just a work of fiction. Oh no, this was a fragment of what the flutter felt. . . of what he experienced and went through. It surprised her to know that he had once been sickly and frail; by the looks of things he was a strong stallion, healthy and without a care. Whatever had made him sickly as a colt had seemingly passed as a phase.

As for his close ties with his sister, it seemed the only happiness he had found when younger. Strange as it seemed, Zara could relate. She was close to both her sisters, though it seemed she did hold a stronger bond with Miki. Regardless, though she loved her family, she also understood the trials parents could put their children through. Like Baldev. . . All he demanded was perfection out of the three. She was dishonoring him by associating with Laures at this very moment, and had always been the one to dig up trouble. He didn't ask for love or affection. . . merely blind acknowledgment and acceptance of his prejudice and wishes. As a filly she had blindly followed. . . but now that she'd grown she was coming to terms that she would live her own life, regardless of consequence to his 'rules'.

Thankfully though, Zara wasn't prone to giving out pity. Though she stayed silent for just a moment, digesting the news, she didn't look down upon the stallion for any of his views. She did wonder, for a moment, what became of his sister. . .or if he had ever wondered to look for her. But those were questions she wouldn't dare ask. . . Not now, as their relationship was still new, nor possibly ever depending. "That's quite the story," she quipped quietly, giving her head a little toss to rid her blue curls out of her eyes. "I'll admit, for being such a good mannered gentleman, I might have woven a different story and upbringing. But it . . . it sounds as if you've quite the healthy mindset, even with given so many trials and hurdles to get over." And wasn't that the truth~!

To not remember who you were, to only know figments of ones past, to not know of their family or what became of it. . . . Some might have slipped in to a steep depression or allowed bitterness and frustration to grip hold of their hearts. But Laures seemed . . . well. . . . strangely healthy about everything, though Zara also understood it could be hidden behind a facade.

He was still too knew for her to truly break down or understand. But c'est la vie. . . . She had no reason to mistrust the gentleman. In fact, she was honored he chose at all to share. "But at least you've found your place in the world, taking it step by step. I'm sure since all you do is travel you've seen some amazing sights." Zara was a wanderer by heart, thanks to her gypsy mother. But she also was unsure if she could cut ties from her family so completely. . . .

He heaved a slient sigh of relief as he realised that the story was over and the mare did not seem to change, to offer pity or look at him differently. It was hard enough to tell the story and try to pass it off as fiction to those who were just looking for some entertainment, to hear the pity for that "poor, helpless young stallion". He'd gritted his teeth and pretended that the story and the resultant reactions didn't effect him when he was with strangers.

It was a whole different thing telling it to someone, and having them know it was true. And despite everything, all the tenseness and waiting to hear and see her reaction- it was good to finally get it off his chest. Normally, if anyone asked about his family, he'd tailor a tale based on the listener's expectations, but somehow, the truth just seemed to slip out when she asked.

One day little brother, you'll find out that I'm not the only one who cares.

Deemed worthless by his parents, and treated as such for so long, it seemed to him that his sister was just trying to be nice, there was no way anyone could care for the weak worthless son. And so he worked hard and grew stronger and more independant.

Zara's kindness was a relief. He was also greatful to hear what he felt as being great praise- having found a place in the world and doing so on his own merit, by his own hardwork. His sweat and blood and tears were not in vain as he made his own place step by step. It was true that he had finally found his niche after a less than admirable foalhood. Even if most just considered him a travelling airhead. Those opinions mattered not to him. He simply enjoyed travelling here and there, wherever his hooves would take him and taking in the sights, and amusing others with what tales they thought they wanted to hear.

"From oceans to the base of the mountains, these areas and more I've travelled since I first arrived in these lands. Many wond'rous and even terrifying things I've seen. But nothing can truly compare to having family or friends to share it with." Laures spoke softly, thinking of the meadows in the spring, of waterfalls and even the serene glades in the heart of deep forests. All sights he had greatly enjoyed, but knowing that there were others who would have enjoyed them even more. He would have enjoyed sharing the wonder with someone who cared. " Even so, there are many wonderous sights even in places you've known all your life. You need only look at them with a different set of eyes. At least, that's what my travels have taught me."

And with that, he fell silent, taking care to not seem rude as he took the chance to get a good look at their surroundings and the trail that would lead them to yet a new wonder he could add to his collection of stories.

Zara turned to peer at her companion, offering him a gentle smile at his words. He was indeed quite the traveler, and she wondered exactly where his hooves had lead him. . . . What beauty had he been able to partake in? What might have caused him fear, what unexpected paths had he found himself traveling?

Though he couldn't have been very much older than she, the young mare understood that he truly harbored a world more experience than she. Though she hoped to change that someday, she understood that at the moment her family still came first. She was slowly branching away but she wasn't quite prepared to amble off for days and weeks much less months without seeing hide or hair of her most beloveds.

Though travel was great. . . . Zara did have to wonder if perhaps her companion flutter grew lonely. The stars might make watchful company at night, or the shadows faithful visitors in the day. . . but they most certainly couldn't talk to you or comfort ones fears or anxieties. They couldn't touch, couldn't feel, couldn't respond or react to anothers needs. . . . What would life be without such a safety net of close ties and bonds?

The colourful mare couldn't much think about it. But to each their own.

"I've bet you many a wonderful tale to tell," she quipped with a chuckle, her long tail swaying happily behind her. "But you're quite right indeed. Some of the most precious and beautiful sights are right there before you. . . but you've not seen them with another or shared them with someone new. Perhaps you'll find beauty that I've missed in these caves," she added with another grin, eyes gleaming with anticipation.

They weren't far now. . . .

Sure enough, the mare lead the winged stallion to the base of the hills. "The entrance can be a little tight," she warned as she guided him up the slopes. Snow was caked against the hillside, and clung desperately to the surrounding ground. A thick wall of ice reached down like fingers, the frozen corpse of what had once been a small, summer waterfall.

**entrance**

"Careful though," she warned with a little giggle, she herself partially slipping upon her first few steps upon the ice covered floor. Ever so carefully, not wanting to fully embarress herself in front of her new friend, the mare snuck around the wall of ice and slowly guided him within the hidden cave. "It's not as large or much of a labyrinth as some caves further north, but it's safer too. . . and still striking." Zara's voice fell to a whisper as she lead her companion deeper in to the cave, pleased that she was given an excuse to return.

It had been far too long really. . . . she'd just been a filly the last time her mother had brought her.

Laures admired the snow, the tenacity it showed as it clung desperately to the ground it's very existence dependant on it. The walls of ice that what in warmer times was surely a small waterfall, though they were stained with the dirt and filth inevitable in an area where there was much wildlife. In other areas it might have stayed a very pure white for near the whole winter, even up to the spring. Was the cave it guarded just as beautiful inside? Did the stalactites and stalagmites have a glaze of ice, causing them to grow and change? Or were there entire new formations of the ice which would be soon to disappear?

His excitement to see and to learn of new things had him all but bouncing on his hooves lightly, only his wings helped him to keep his balance and remain upright as he encountered some slick footing, be it slightly after Zara's friendly warning. Had he been alone, he'd probably have missed this cave, or if he decided to explore, lost his footing and likely injured himself. Having company, even on a short stroll like this, soothed the lonely soul. While travelling was just as wonderful as it was portrayed in most stories one would hear as a foal, those stories never seemed to take into account the coldness of night and shadows and stars when when was alone, or how even the bright light of day the joys and wonders one would encounter seemed dull without someone to share it with.

He shook his mane, and started to answer bitterly. "The tales I could tell... what sort of tale do you favor- Adventure, romance, myth and legend? Do you enjoy happy endings, tragic, or realistic? I could spin you a tale right here and now that would have you cringing in fear or laughing in delight. This is my 'gift' I guess you could call it. The only thing I ever recieved from my parents, aside from life, and perhaps the only thing I can think of, which is connected to them, fondly."

Feeling some remorse for his hasty answer he cringed. Zara was probably only trying to make conversation, most likely she hadn't meant to hurt him, but the remark she'd made hit close to home. "I'm sorry for snapping."

Squeezing through the opening to the cave which was a tight fit, his wings forced the fold tightly against his back so as not to be bent or broken, he was encourged to watch his footing very carefully, so as not to be surprised by a patch of ice and sent tumbling ungracefully to the ground.

Caught between the ice wall and the natural wall of the cave, the path in was surprisingly dark. But once they emerged into the bright light of the rather airy entry, the entire journey there, and the slight claustrophobia caused from the tunnel in, was made worth it. And the whispering tone the colorful mare's voice took on was more than explained.

If there was any place that could be deemed holy, or even close, this cave could. It seemed almost sacreligious to talk or even walk loudly in this place. The stallion's face glowed with the awe and child-like wonder he felt.

Looking around at the rainbows cast by the light reflecting off the surface of the ice formations, Laures wasn't paying too much attention to his footing and nearly lost it when he stepped into a small puddle caused by the slight thaw, the unseasonable warmth. The majesty of the place was obvious but understated, not to overawe. This was truly one of nature's most incredible wonders.

All the bitterness from his earlier statment melted away.

"This, this is......" His voice trailed off as he could find no words to adequately express the beauty of the place and the feelings it invoked. Finally he turned to face his guide and companion. "With such beauty so close by, how could you not come here whenever you had the chance?"

Zara's ears flicked forward at the flutter's sharp response. Her pink eyes widened only slightly as she glanced back at the stallion, not entirely sure what to say. She hadn't meant to offend the male, nor upset him, but it was obvious that she had crossed some unseen line. Hmm. . . . . "Excuse me," she murmured a bit apologetically. "I seem to be talking too much." Not that that was a surprise. . . . She had inherited her family's bold nature and had never once been shy when it came to conversation. Sometimes though, the mare was learning, she talked just a little too much. . . .

Thankfully though, there wasn't a whole lot to say as they entered the cave. Zara wasn't offended or hurt by Laures' words, and was more curious about his reaction to the sight before him than concerned about his retort. Thankfully though, the flutter didn't disappoint. Stepping in to the lit belly of the cave, the mare could only smile broadly at the reaction she received. My but the green and blue flutter didn't disappoint~!

"I take it you approve of the sight?" She giggled softly once again, her long tail swishing lightly behind her in pleasure. Tearing her eyes away from the stallion beside her, Zara took a few steps further in, admiring the beauty before them. Truly it was a remarkable place, somewhere isolated yet pure. . .a hidden treasure, a well kept secret that many walked by or didn't bother to investigate.

As for his question, she didn't answer right away. Her cloven hooves stepped daintily around the enclosed area, her tail reaching out now and then to brush against the side of damp ice. It was cold within the enclosure, but with the rainbows dancing off the ice, reflected from the sun outside, Zara could only savor the moment and memory. "There is beauty everywhere in the world. . . I suppose though, when it comes to this place, I had no reason to return. Its beauty is meant to be shared, and while my mother shared it to my sisters and I . . .until I met you, there was no reason to return." Furthermore, any friends or aquaintences she had met had either shown no interest in such natural beauty or had bumped in to her during the wrong season.

"Lucky for you, we crossed paths at the perfect moment." And wasn't that the truth~! If he'd come any later during the season, he might not have been able to witness such a sight until the following winter. But now, thankfully, even after they parted ways he'd always have the memories to cherish.
PostPosted: Fri May 29, 2009 9:42 am

The memories one most wishes to forget are often the ones that are remembered the clearest. At least, that's what it seemed like to the bright stallion. The memories he had recovered first after beginning his journey were those of his parents. The derision and scorn aimed his way all his life. Excluded and set apart. He thought he'd gotten over the pain and hurt they caused, but a few simple remarks from his companion brought all his self-loathing and insecurities to the fore.

He took a few moments to recover himself and to continue looking around the cave in wonder. Surrounded by such beauty all around, it was hard to hold onto the bad feelings, and he shook the memories off. He ducked his head a moment to recover.

"I'm truly sorry. I didn't mean to sound so harsh."

He hated to lose control over his emotions like that. He was not one meant to be angry or upset. It just sounded so wrong. He sounded just like his sire then, and he shuddered at the comparison.

The mare's soft giggle sounded louder and clearer, and Laures couldn't help but smile. The sound was infectious, but he was still rather unsure of where he stood now, after showing a glimpse of the harsher side he kept buried and locked away deep within himself.

He definately agreed that while this place was absolutely a magnificent sight, it was one that was far better when shared with someone else who could admire the beauty as well.

Realising also the fragile nature and how it could only be accessed at very few times during the year, he felt a little foolish. Part of the splendor of the place was its rarity, and the mare probably was able to enjoy it more for the very few times it was open to be seen. This was a place, a memory he would cherish long after he left this place. Not only for the cave itself, but for the company he had while there.

"I wonder just how far this cave extends?" He wondered aloud.

If the flutter worried about how Zara would respond to his moments loss of temper, he would realize such feelings were unnecessary. The brightly coloured mare was quite congenial and forgiving of tempers, especially as she would be hypocritical to judge. Though it was most unlady like, every so often even she lost control and allowed her stubborn pride and temper to be unleashed. Thankfully for those whom did know her, such a fit was rare and not without undue cause.

Most of the time, at any rate.

"You've nothing to be sorry for," she quipped softly, giving her long, blue mane a little shake over her neck. Though her words were soft, they were quite sincere, and she graced her companion with another grin to prove it.

Allowing his fears to subside by not continuing speaking of such a trivial thing, the mare pricked her ears and turned to gaze at the path they might travel. "I'm not sure just how far this place goes," she admitted with a little tail swish. "My mother never allowed us to travel too deeply when my sisters and I were taken to visit. . . " Eyes lighting with curiosity, she added with a rueful grin, "But I'm an adult now, and Mother is far from this place."

Canting her head ever so delicately, the mare approached Laures and gave a polite sort of bow. "If the fine gentleman might oblige a curious lady. . .perhaps we could find out together?"

Laures was making a fine companion, and though he wasn't a unicorn (sadly, not many in the world were) he was polite and charming and the best company she'd had in ages. Though Zara didn't expect for him to become much more than a good-humored acquaintance, it was still nice to break up the monotony of her lonely afternoons. Foal hood friends had long since disappeared and the mare had decided she wouldn't pursue new ones . . . .

She'd let fate do all the work. She had her sisters, her mother, her father and adventure. . .what more in life did a mare really need?

PostPosted: Fri Jun 12, 2009 8:16 pm

For too long the flutter had been in control, afraid to show others the other sides he possessed. More than just an airheaded happy-go-lucky stallion which is the facet he showed the world, he did have a temper of which he was frightened andhe was intelligent and observant. The latter traits served him well in the past, and even now seemed to show that the mare wasn't overly concerned with the temper he let slip.

For too long, he had wandered alone. Had hidden his self. And started to succumb to feelings of ennui and mild antipathy. Growing as cold to the world as one of such a happy nature could. But it seemed that Fate herself had decided to step in. Placing him at such a place and time as to meet his lovely companion to be reminded of the joy and beauty the world still had to offer.

He was not one to spit upon gifts of Fate as they usually weren't so kind, and he determined that from now on he would make an effort to enjoy everything to the hilt. He would enjoy the mare's company and make an effort to be even more polite and likeable a companion. Surely if he did so, Fate would continue to smile on him.

He allowed himself a moment to admire the mare once more in the almost ethereal light of the cave, being a great admirer of beauty.

He made a show of exaggeratedly looking about the cave. "I see no others in this place, be they Mother's or not." He laughed a little. "It is still early enough to explore at least some of this place."

He tilted his head slightly and motioned for the mare to lead the way, a fuzzy memory of something he'd seen his father do to charm a mare, one fond memory he had came to the fore. "Ladies first m'dear." He quipped.

Zara giggled at the stallions words, her pink eyes bright with delight. He was right though - there was just the two of them within the secluded ice cave, and no one to tell them what they could or couldn't do!

There was something ridiculously pleasant about such a thought. Ever since she had been a small filly, her parents had held a very firm hoof over what she could and couldn't do. Rules, rules and more rules; some founded for her safety, others merely the prejudice of her father. Shame on her for finding adventure and unladylike behavior to be more thrilling and intriguing. . . . Yes, she had been a thorn in her parents side with a penchant for trouble. But try as she might to listen, she just couldn't justify some of their fears and demands.

If she had listened to them, she would have turned up her nose at the presence of a flutter and non-unicorn. . . But how could she do such a thing? Just because they weren't of her race didn't make them any less. . . Different, yes, but if everyone in the world were a unicorn like she. . . wouldn't it be a bit boring?

Either way, the mare gave an appreciative smile at the stallion and matched his charm with a bow to him all her own. "Then let's be off and away, my fine stallion. Adventure, or at least some more beauty, most certainly awaits!" Giving her head a little shake, Zara ever so delicately brushed past the flutter and headed further within. The ground was less damp the further inward she went, which allowed for slightly more stability on her hooves. . . Every now and then she found her hooves slipping, but did her best to catch herself and make sure she DIDN'T fall flat on her face in front of her companion.

Thankfully, she was the graceful dancer in the family. . . .even with all her hair.

"I've never cut my hair before," she murmered with a grin. "But walking in ice and hair is a bit treacherous for my health and well being. I think I may consider finding a pleasant racoon to give me a make over after we return. . . ." How the fates laughed at her; she had been the one with the most need for a shorter hairstyle and yet her hair had grown longer than both of her sisters!
