Kash nodded, since it made a lot of sense to her. "Makes sense. How about--"
"Hello, Mira," her father said from behind them. "What seems to be the problem?" He was a tall, sharp looking man with a hint of fangs when he smiled. "We were wondering when you would get back to the table."
"Oh, hey Daddy," she said, looking up at him with a smile. "We're looking for her mommy."

Iselda scrutinized the older man, feeling a bit wary of anyone adult. Her experiences hadn't been that stellar with them, so far, but she nevertheless stored the name 'Mira' in the back of her mind for later use - she'd never introduced herself to the other girl after all, but it was always useful to know someone's name.
"Mother left me in bath-room." Really, it sounded a lot worse than it was, didn't it?

"I see," he said. "And what is your name, sweetheart?" he asked gently, his hand resting on Kash's head and absently ruffling her fluffy silver hair.
Kash blinked, trying to remember if she had asked the girl that question. She tended to forget little details like that when she was focused on something.

"Iselda, sir." Anna had said that was the polite thing to say to men, so the little girl figured she might as well give it a try. She had a last name too, of course, but Iselda couldn't quite pronounce it yet and trying and subsequently failing was not her thing.
"Mother tall, grey with red dress." She added, just for good measure. He might have a better outlook from all the way up there, right?

"I see," he said as he looked around.
"Maybe if you picked her up she could see her?" Kash offered helpfully. "Cuz it's hard to see when you're short and everyone's wearing the same kind of clothes."
"That's a good idea," Dyer said, looking at Iselda. "But only if you'll allow me, of course," he said, offering the little girl a hand.

That.. sounded like a good idea, but all the same Iselda was a bit wary. No-one had ever carried her around much, mainly because the giant hole in her back made it a hassle and creeped out everyone.
But if it'd help her find her mother, sure. She'd been promised dessert, after all. "Okay." She scooted closer and took his hand, only letting go of Kash's once she'd done that. "Has hole. Careful." It was the polite thing to do, to warn him so he didn't get a huge surprise, but it might have worked better if Iselda was a bit more articulate.

He looked at her curiously for a moment, then gently slipped an arm under her bottom to lift her up against his side. Her back was away from him, her weight resting on her thighs, as if his arm was a chair. "Will this work?" he asked her.
"Do you see your mom?" Kash asked her, looking around and leaning against her dad's side slightly.

"Yes." She nodded solemnly, before taking a look around the restaurant. There were lots and lots of women in red! Iselda was momentarily thankful that her and Kash hadn't had to pester all of them; it'd have taken forever.
"There." She pointed to a woman at the other end of the room who looked suspiciously like her mother, though it was hard to tell at this distance. "Thank you." She added, dutifully.

"Then why don't I take you to her," he said, starting to walk. It didn't seem he was bothered by the hole in her back at all. Then again, he came from a very strange planet, so it wasn't that big of a deal to him.
"You sure?" Kash asked. "She's pretty far away," she added as they got closer. She had to speed up and keep a hand on her dad's dress coat so she didn't get lost.
"Excuse me," Dyer said as they reached the woman. "Is this your child?"

"Hmm?" Elena looked up from her conversation to behold the newcomers at her table. "Why yes! Iselda, what is the meaning of this?"
"Forgot me." Iselda retorted sullenly, curling a small fist in Dyer's coat. Why couldn't her mom be nice like Kashmira's said her's was? "In bathroom. Forgot me."
"Oh dear, I'm so sorry to trouble you with this, Mr." The grey-haired woman got up from her table to turn fully to look at the little party, ignoring her daugther to give them a winning smile.
"Do stop pouting Iselda, it's most impolite." She frowned for a moment before turning her attention back on the strangers. "Thank you for your trouble.. will you require.." She lowered her voice: "Monetary compensation? A little tip, I know what a silly girl she can be. Quite a handful." She threw a haughty look at Dyer and his daughter's clothes, her thoughts on their wealth clearly painted in her face.

"No, thank you," Dyer said coldly. "But I would suggest you not neglect her like this again." He gently put Iselda down, patting her head. "You be a good girl, Iselda," he told her softly.
"Bye, Iselda," Kash said. She couldn't lie and say she was glad they had found her mother. Her mother seemed like a real witch. She slipped her hand into her father's, glancing at the little girl once more before they walked away. "Who are we with again?" she asked curiously.
"The mayor's son," Dyer replied. "Because we settled out of court, thankfully."
"He's a jerk."
"More often than not." And they were gone, leaving Iselda to deal with her mother.
