Voodoo's not-so-omega pose didn't pass by unnoticed by the gray female. She was keeping a close eye on him, one canine teeth flashing white at him in case he thought about doing anything stupid. She had fed him, now he best remember that and not try to take more than his fair share. The kill had been discovered by her first, not him.
"You act as if you haven't eaten in days, strange one," she said, trying to figure out why on earth he hadn't eaten. Perhaps it was just a trick to see how much meat he could get from one wolf? Hm, seemed like a stupid way to go about getting food to Kal.
"What's your name, anyways?" she asked, curious more than ever now. Of course, if he asked, he probably wouldn't get her name in return... well, not her full name anyways.
Bending over her kill--still watching him, though--the gray femme took another bite as she waited for an answer.

Voodoo hesitated a moment, ears flicking forward and back absently as he finished off the last of the meat. Slowly, his tongue ran over his muzzle, clearing away the stench of blood and the slight tacky quality that the feed had lent to his fur. His tail flicked, absently for a moment, those dark orange-brown eyes flickering thoughtfully over the she-wolf for a moment or two. For a moment, he considered rocking back to sit on his haunches, but then he rethought the matter: remaining firmly on all fours. If she decided she suddenly didn't like him there, he'd rather be quick to escape...
"I haven't," he responded, warily, head lowering just a fraction -- as if to reassert himself as 'below' the female. The action might have been unconscious, but those eyes were somewhat too calculating for anything concerning the small male to be thoughtless. "Or rather, nothing particularly satisfying." He'd become rather good at snapping up squirrels, though. That, he supposed, was something of note. Still... "In case you hadn't noticed, I'm not exactly the sort good for pulling down a deer." He cast the remaining bits of the hooved-animal's carcass a sparse glance, tail flicking.
Names. Everyone wanted to know names here. No one could go on just knowing your smell, or what color someone's coat was. Lord knew no one about here looked much the same; it wouldn't be too hard. Huffing mentally, Voodoo straightened himself out just a touch. "Voodoo," he offered, carefully. One ear flicked forward again toward the female. "Yourself?" No need to male himself look strange. Everyone here seemed to ask for the names, anyway. But...well, the she-wolf was varying grey, smelled faintly of other wolves and something more dangerous, and food. That would be enough for Voodoo, name or no name.

So, the male wasn't able to catch a decent meal, eh? How pathetic and useless. Kal was surprised that he hadn't disappeared from the face of the earth. Maybe he had company, someone who caught food for him often enough to keep the male alive. But, if that was true, then why was Voodoo asking her for food? Maybe they had gotten split up somewhere and thus far haven't found each other.
Logical enough. Or... what if they were just lazy and chose to take food from others? What if... what if the male's 'company' was hiding in the bushes and waiting for the perfect time to attack and steal the food. This seemed even more logical for lone wolves and thus caused her gray fur to bristle in anger. Another swift mood swing, though, and she was back to the way she was a minute ago.
"Mm, pity," was all that he got for admitting that he couldn't bring down large game to feed himself. He was definitely smaller than her, but then again she was actually pretty big for a female wolf of her age.
Then, when he asked for her name in return, she almost had a deep regret for asking him in the first place. Scent was the strongest sense tied to memory.. why didn't she just remember him that way? Perhaps it was because it would seem strange to refer to him as just that one wolf instead of his proper name.
"Kal," the she-wolf said sharply, canines showing once more.

Voodoo blinked sharply, ears snapping backward and head coming swiftly down as the female's stance shifted. What the hell was her problem? Clearly, there was something decidedly unbalanced about the grey she-wolf. What sort of normal wolf went about giving away food, and then growling and raising their hackles at their charity case a moment later? Voodoo's eyes narrowed sharply, watching her carefully. He remained in the slightly strained position until he was certain that the female had reconsidered her hackle-raising before, carefully, straightening himself out again. All right then...
But at least he'd gotten a name. He wasn't sure if he'd even get something. Who knew if it was actually her name, but he was willing to suspend disbelief. He'd half been expecting a threatening growl and a gnash of teeth in return for the inquiry. But a name was good; a name was very good. It would be easier to explain to other wolves if he ever had the desire to find the female again (at this precise moment, that was doubtful, but...). It didn't seem like rambling about a "grey female that smells of..." would be very effective about here. For all he knew, most of these wolves had been knocked in the nose or something equally horrible, for all they seemed to take note of smells. Ah well.
"Kal," he repeated absently, filing away the name for later use. "I take it you're not often inclined to go about handing off charity," he noted idly, tone playing lightly on the line of amusement. She certainly seemed suspicious enough of him to make it appear that she wasn't used to simply giving things away to pathetic, starving lone wolves like himself.

"Of course not," Kal replied, trying to keep herself from snapping at the other wolf. His tone didn't go by unnoticed by her. Since one of her eyes was blind, her ears were a little sharper than that of others. She could hear subtle things that some others couldn't.
Plus, the thought of him having a plan with another strange wolf to take her food was still bouncing around in her mind, and it didn't seem like she was going to let go of it any time soon. The she-wolf was guarded and cautious, making sure to stay alert the whole time lest someone attack her while she was distracted.
She was going to say something about how he begged for food, but what was there to say? There was no set way of going about, asking strangers for food from their kill. Of course, there could be a multitude of ways.
"Do you always ask strangers for food?" It was a mocking tone, really, but she really didn't mean for it to come out that way. The gray femme was simply curious. It was most likely the paranoa that was getting to her head.

Voodoo's ears flicked backward in slight annoyance, apparently somewhat resentful of the female's tone of voice -- whether she meant it or not. Absently, his tail flicked in a small note of irritation. "When it's convienant, you could say," he answered, eyes narrowed slightly on 'Kal.' "I'm afraid I happened to...lose...my main benefactor. Put me in a bit of a straits, you understand." Voodoo shifted, rolling his shoulders in what might have been considered a wolf-ish shrug, if the animals were capable of such things. Shaking his head lightly, he slowly receeded back on to his haunches, still not completely certain if the female would go for his throat, but willing to risk it. He could be quick on his feet when he chose to, thank you very much.
"Do you always ask so many questions?" --Not that Kal had been asking too many. That other one, the white female (Winter?), had asked enough to make his head hurt. In comparison, Kal was a substantially less significant headache. But...well, she seemed to have that female intuition, or some sort of paranoid equivalent. Voodoo grimaced inwardly. Females; females were trouble.

Males; they were trouble.
"I see," Kal replied. So he just asked for food whenever he felt like eating a decent meal. What a life. Way to have values and morals, she thought sarcastically to herself.
When Voodoo asked whether she always inquired this much of others, one would have thought she might've snapped at him or at least growled. But, seeing that she was asking a bit of questions than was necessary, she reasoned that he had a right to ask of that.
"Not always," she said cooly. "Not all wolves have such an interesting lifestyle such as yours, strange one." Why the gray femme always called him 'strange one' was a mystery and would probably stay that way for a long time. She had alien ways of thinking and doing things.
Now, strangely enough, she was actually beginning to like this male. He wasn't half-bad, besides being a worthless beggar. Eyes narrowing and a small grin appearing on her features, she nosed the carcass then looked at him. "Do you want more?"

Voodoo sniffed absently, head coming a fraction or two. Apparently the small male was relaxing a touch beneath the gaze of the female -- that, or he figured he might as well look that way. I suppose scraping one's stomach on the ground for a living is as good as any," he noted idly, peering at Kal for a long moment. 'Strange one.' He'd had worse names. 'Worm,' 'You There,' the ocassionally 'Traitor.'
Voodoo straightened sharply at the offer of more food: ears coming forward, whole body straightening itself out with either sudden surprise or sudden excitement. Like a pup sighting the pack bringing back breakfast. The sharp statured wolf quickly dissolved though, reverting back into the slightly hunched shoulders and fractionally lowered head of the Voodoo prior. "It depends; will this involve me getting close enough for you to snap my legs out from under me?" He paused, casting Kal's teeth a slightly suspicious look. Well, he wasn't stupid.

Voodoo was smart, she'd give him that much. Even though he had the flavorful offer of food right in front of him, he paused to check out his risks and the chances of taking that particular action. It was enough smarts to earn him a bit of Kalia's respect. Her good eye showed this with the way it sparkled and glinted.
"Well, I can toss more meat to you if that would make you feel more comfortable... or you can try and trust that I don't attack you while you come close to eat." Eyes narrowed at the challenge. She had no plan to attack him, but he didn't know that. "Take your pick. Just a hint, though, I have no reason to harm you." At least, none yet.

Voodoo eyed the she-wolf for a moment, ear flicking back and forth indecisively. Finally, he picked himself up off his haunches, shaking himself out a bit. Small flecks of dust and dirt seperated from his coat, floating cheerfully back to the ground. "I'll take the risk," he ceded, wrinkling his nose lightly. "Frankly, it gets gritty when it's been rolled on the ground, and while dirt didn't hurt anyone...--well, it doesn't exactly add much to the flavor." The dark wolf chuckled, slinking forward the few feet that separated them. It was a distinct pace: like a snake, sliding through the clearing, rather than the lumbering strides of an actual wolf. Voodoo paused a moment longer, a few last strides from the carcass, to cast Kal a quick up and down glance; probably assuring himself his jugular was safe. Apparently he didn't see anything too worrisome, closing the last strides and tentatively baring his teeth, tearing into what was left of the deer's haunch. It was somehow better straight from the bone -- a note he'd never bothered to take notice of before.
Suffice to say he hadn't expected this much charity, if any, from the she-wolf. In fact, he'd expected to be chased right off (which, really, he probably deserved) rather than having his whims catered to. This place really was far different from his own old lands... --Not that he was complaining. Only an idiot would complain about kindness and charity. It was simply a notable difference. Back "home," he beggar got chased off from any kill. Ah well; he'd gotten even for that long ago.

Voodoo had guts too, and for that he earned a little more respect from the she-wolf. Nodding towards him, she sat down comfortably. "Indeed... the meat tastes much better, much more fresh off the bone than off the ground." But then again, why would he care? If he hadn't had a decent meal in days, any good food should've been accepted without question.. unless the one giving it was some enemy that randomly felt nice.
But enough of that, Kalia was beginning to lose herself in her thoughts.
So with her good eye turned towards the male, she watched him slink over towards her like no one she had ever seen before. Strange one indeed, she thought to herself. He looked like those slithery creatures she had seen back in her home. One of them had taken a packmember's life, so the female didn't bother to find out more about them, lest she lose her life too.
As he ate, she unconsciously cleaned her paws and maw of any blood that might still be there. Kal paused briefly, though, to ask him another question with a big grin on her face. "How's the food?"

Voodoo paused, lifting his attention and head from the carcass to peer toward Kal. Absently, he ran his tongue swiftly over the fur of his muzzle. After all, cleanliness was next to godliness, or some such saying like that. Voodoo noted the grin with faint amusement. Well, at least he could be sure he wasn't going to be slaughtered. Not many wolves grinned cheerfully before tearing sinew and ventricles. --Well, in these lands, anyway. "It's food," he pointed out, undertones of attempted wit and sarcasm lacing the response. With a light, bemused sniff, Voodoo turned his attention partially back to the meat, pulling at the flesh with a noted idle pace in comparison to his gobbling of the first few mouthfuls.
It wasn't long before he'd eaten his fill. He didn't want to eat himself sick, after all (and after a few weeks of living off ground game and who knows what else, he would if he gorged himself on the deer as much as his stomach seemed to desire). Straightening, he rocked back onto his haunches and away from the remains of the animal, casting a orange-brown eyed glance in the she-wolf's direction. Socilization, he noted flippantly to himself, was not a high point of his 'Survival List.' However, it seemed somewhat crass to simply eat someone's food and then kick up his heels and flee.

Kal narrowed her eyes at his vague answer to her question. "Just because it is food does not make it good or satisfying." Her tone had a bit of an icey edge to it, as if she wanted to scold him for his careless choice of words yet at the same time knowing that it would probably be useless.
Voodoo came off as such a pup to her.
When he finished, she paused in her grooming. Her eyes stared blankly at him, as if she expected something from him or for something to happen. But, she wanted nothing nor did she really think that he would thank her truly. It crossed the female's mind to ask if he had any friends roaming about, but soon tossed that aside and figured it would be just another question that he would be annoyed by.
And she wasn't some alpha scolding a traitor, wondering who his accomplices were or what he was planning to do.

Voodoo's ears twitched back slightly, eyes narrowing a touch. "Food is, for the most part, food. If it keeps one alive, it's satisfying enough for me." Which wasn't to say he didn't prefer deer over ground squirrel or dead bird, but he'd dug himself in now...--besides, so long as he had a full stomach, he truly didn't care. Somethings might taste better on his tongue than the other, but as long as his belly was filled he didn't particularly care; and that had, after all, been the problem with all that small game. It wasn't exactly filling.
Slowly, he rocked back on to all fours, watching Kal warily for a moment. Uncertainly, his tail flicked. Shoulders hunching once more, head dropping a touch -- apparently a habitual stance for the small male --, Voodoo picked his way a few slithering strides from what was left the carcass, casting her another glance as he went. "I suppose I'll be going then," he began, slowly -- as if not certain that the grey she-wolf would actually allow him exit. Then again, why would Kal actually want him about? Perhaps it was paranoia; didn't want her snapping after him with those teeth if he made a wrong step... --Females; if the wolf was male he'd leave; but females...they got rather attached over the silliest things, waltzing out rudely the least of offenses.

"Simple enough," was the passive reply to Voodoo's liking of food. Obviously he didn't care whether it tasted good or not, just so long as it satisfied him and gave him a warm belly to sleep with. Or, at least, that's what Kal got from his statement.
Then, when he made a motion and spoke about his thinking of leaving, her fur bristled. Just like every other male out there!! He had been attracted to her spot by the scent of food, and now that he was full and satisfied with her meat he just wanted to leave! Hmph, how rude. Yet, she couldn't stop him from leaving... it seemed... unreasonable. If the male wanted to be rude, then he could--even if it upset her some.
"Hm, if you wish." The gray she-wolf spoke carefully, trying to keep the hint of ice from her voice. No need to go all spazzy now...
But she eyed him cautiously, as if Kalia herself were paranoid about something.
